I have visited Wall of Sound many times as it is only a few blocks from my place. Knowledgeable staff, great selection of vinyl that you just don't see in other record stores. This means, they curate their selection to be a little bit more unique. Love recording of the Cure, check. Years of Denial- what, you've never heard of them? Neither had I until I went online to do a quick listen. Snagged that one as well. Ambient vinyl here if you just need to chill after a long day at work. Nice local vinyl shop in a cool neighborhood - near the University and the Jimi Hendrix statue. Interesting selection of curated, used LPs. Prices are fair. Great customer service. If you need to stoop down to check out bins, there is a seating stool. Since most of their music is rather esoteric (a compliment) - would be nice to have a turntable listening station, though they did offer to play over the web. read more

Such a sweet spot, yelp is not giving this place the justice it deserves. All sorts of music, and it's just a tiny little spot so you aren't getting overloaded with mainstream stuff, you're as deep as it gets, and it is good rare stuff. One of the best record stores in a city with lots of good record stores. Wall of Sound is a small shop but I was really impressed with the eclectic selection of used records. When digging, I always look for good used garage/punk/power pop from the 70's to today and found some really interesting things there. They even had a decent selection of singles to dig through. The prices weren't cheap but were reasonable, especially for a shop that specializes in off the wall, non-mainstream records. The clerk, who may also have been an owner was really friendly too. I've been meaning to go here for awhile now and finally made it in here. This record and CD music shop has a very eclectic selection which is something unlike few music stores I have come across. There was odd mambo, salsa and cocktail lounge music selections or perhaps it wasn't odd but since these are not musical genres I am not familiar with. Some selections made me pat my hands with glee like seeing De La Soul on vinyl and well as soundtracks for films like Solaris, The Holy Mountain and Suspiria which really got me excited! There were some other selections by more well known or accessible artists but the selection(at least to me) was more of an entertaining exercise in checking out music I know little about. read more

This is the Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot record store of Seattle, according to me. It really is super small, and therefore limited in what it can carry. It's like shopping in the living room in a tiny apartment. I didn't spend long here, since I didn't find what I was looking for: rock CDs and merch. Very small selection of CDs, in general, and most were other genres. I didn't see any merch. Caught a glimpse of some intriguing vinyl on the shelves, but didn't have time to browse. read more

Happy to see the many highly positive reviews for this store. The co-owners are both great in conversation and generously polite. The used vinyl is small but I nearly always find multiple interesting records. They find cool collections, somehow, and parse them out gradually. Prices are reasonable. Although the quantity of records here is not as large as most record shops, the quality is where this store excels. Without fail, I always find a handful of records that are must-haves. I predominantly find electronic/experimental records here, but the "new arrivals" section tends to have a more diverse spread of genres. I also appreciate that this store tends to carry a lot of local music. To make it even better, the pricing here is super fair. In my experience, the cashier is really nice and is really insightful in conversation (I'm not sure if there are multiple cashiers, but it has been the same guy every time I've been). I always visit this place without fail when I come to Seattle. You should definitely come check this place out if you're looking for some good, fairly-priced music! read more

Browsing the stacks, great jazz funk soul and plenty of everything for a smaller but clearly carefully curated store. Proprietor asked if I was looking for anything in particular. Didn't have what I might have wanted, and then he brightened up and showed me a record and said "this is fantastic, if that is what you are looking for". Best album I've purchased in a long time! Hit it on the head. I bought 4 or 5 records on my first visit, all terrific, looking forward to getting back in there. read more

They have a frequent buyers club! It's like a coffee punch card for records!!!!! I was not in the market for any new music on the particular day I stopped here, but something drew me inside... What I found inside this little shop was an excellently selected choice of new and used records at a fair price. For a world-music fan this place is definitely what you are looking for, there was Soviet funk, Ethiopian jazz, and Everything in between. I ended up with a whole stack of possible purchases but narrowed down my haul to a local metal band Christian Mistress and a re-release of 1960's Cambodian pop music. I will be back. read more

It's a beautiful record store, but it's so small, and the selection is so very limited. I mean. I guess maybe limited in that... the type of music I was looking for didn't seem to be their main focus. So if you like some experimental and electronic music, this will probably be your jam. The absolutely amazing music selection would give this place 5 stars. However, the 1 star review I should give this place for their proprietor accusing my friend of stealing knocks it down to a 3. Seriously dude, relax. If you're going to have crates on the floor, people are going to have to kneel down to look through them. Maybe get better cameras or a mirror system. And I was going to buy something until that happened! Perhaps next time I visit Seattle and dude has had a few years to cool off. read more

Very small but very well organized and cleanest of all. Cool owner working. However, only 3 stars because they specialize in mainly obscure genre and don't stock what I collect or look for (mainstream pop and rock). There are also many interesting stores to check out while you're there including another record store across the street called "Zion Gates" or something like that although overpriced and couldn't stand staying there very long due to LOUD heavy metal music blasting the speakers. read more

A local gem of a record store with plenty of top-shelf "esoteric" new releases as well as bargain bins of quality used rock, blues, jazz, soul, and you-name-it LPs and 45s. What the selection lacks in relative quantity (there are bigger stores in the vicinity) it more than makes up for in refinement--you'd be hard pressed to find a single stinker in their tightly curated inventory. I stumbled on this place after waiting for some other stores in the area to open up. It's a small space with only a few rows and shelves of material, and seem to have more vinyl than they do CDs (understandably). Glancing through most of the CDs, the majority genre was avant garde/experimental, world, a small selection for jazz/ska/dub, and some rock leaning towards psych/prog/indie/classic. I was looking for more punk/hardcore which wasn't as prevalent, but I did pick up a local band from my area for $3 used. P.S. I really like the signage on the window. read more

Jeffery and Michael have been running Wall of Sound since taking over ownership in fifteen years ago (having worked there since 1991) and they truly take care of their loyal customers. Extremely eclectic selection with tons of rare used records, new records, CDs and cassettes from the deeper underground of rock, electronic, experimental, world and synth. Great selection of new and used jazz, soundtracks and more. They likely won't have exactly what you're looking for (especially if it's on the more mainstream side of things), but they can always steer you into something you didn't know would become you're latest favorite album and they are always happy to accommodate special orders. Stayed in Seattle for a few nights, and as I often do when visiting other places, searched for local record stores that I thought would be worth perusing. This one was a gem. The selection here mainly consists of music (vinyl/CDs/some cassettes) you would have a hard time finding elsewhere, including other independent record stores. From what I read about the store, this is completely intentional. I primarily browsed the electronic section (which is heavily stocked with ambient/experimental-influenced artists). It seems clear that the owners give 110% into curating their inventory - how awesome! I saw a few things I wanted to listen to, and ended up asking the staff (owner?) there for a recommendation based on the type of music I was looking for. He quickly flipped through the artists, selected a few discs, and politely guided me to the listening station. I ended up with a purchase I wasn't expecting because I thoroughly enjoyed what I heard - the best kind of record store experience for me. I visit Seattle a few times a year, and will be sure to make future trips to Wall of Sound! read more

Nice guy, super clean store, and reasonable prices. Mostly new stuff, with a few gems on the walls. Really good light to see what you're looking at. Asked if I could just look at a nick Drake album telling him I had no intention of buying it and he was super nice about it. "Ya, no problem." Highly Recommended out of my record store experience in the area. Guys at Zion Records are dicks and Everyday is a little pricey, but not bad. read more
