We moved into our home in Oct 2024, so this is our 1-year review. In short, Home Life was…read moreincompetent and untrustworthy. Not only did they not provide quality work, but they did not stand behind the home they sold nor did they provide the products or services they advertised and listed in their contract.
It took 10+ months of working with Destiny Homes and 6+ service calls to address the material and workmanship issues with our home. during which I learned many issues were related to Home Life's negligence. For example: I had a sewage leak under the house related to a loose clean-out valve cap (the drainage piping is installed by Home Life). Also, the piping was initially installed with inadequate pitch, but Homelife did send someone out to adjust the pitch - the one and only service they provided after the sale! What else did they do wrong: they failed to align and level the shower glass doors they installed, which resulted in the glass hitting the side wall and chipping, so Destiny had to replace the shower doors. Home Life failed to properly install the master shower glass half-wall fully into the channel such that it was wobbling. I had to duct tape it until Destiny was able to get someone out to remove it and properly install it. The rear door was stuck during initial setup, so the Home Life team attempted to 'fix' it by banging the threshold with a hammer, bending the threshold. Destiny had to replace the entire door since proper adjustments could not be made given the damage caused by Home Life. The dining room sliding glass door blinds were not installed level, so Destiny had to fix that too. In addition to these damages caused by Home Life, they refused to do the customary drywall crack repairs. Destiny said the drywall repairs were the responsibility of the reseller (Home Life), but Destiny eventually took care of the issues. Home Life also failed to do the normal inspections to ensure everything was working properly. We had 4 electrical outlets not working, one bathroom sink had a loose drainage pipe that was leaking when the faucet was used, one shower had a cracked drainage pipe that was leaking under the house, one sink faucet was loose, two sink stoppers were not connected, and the dead bolt locks on two doors did not align to the holes, so they could not be locked. I provide all these examples to testify to Home Life's incompetence.
As for the untrustworthiness, two big issues: 1) the contract states a "correctly sized heat pump installed", but they provided an undersized unit. They provided a 3-ton unit for a 2,136 sf home with the upgraded 9 ft high ceilings. Given the many issues I had with this home, I hired a home inspector to inspect the home. He noted the undersized unit in his inspection report which I provided to Home Life and Destiny over a year ago. A local HVAC company who provided my annual service also agreed the heat pump unit was undersized. A simple Google or ChatGPT search will show a 4-ton packaged heat pump unit is recommended. 2) the contract states a "Life Time Warranty provided through Dynamic Home Repair" was included; however, Home Life did not submit my warranty paperwork. When I notified Home Life about this last year, they said they would take care of it, but they never did. Dynamic Home Repair has no registration for us, and Home Life has not responded to my recent inquiries.
Home Life lacks any sort of quality control process or oversight to ensure they deliver and set-up a quality home, so you will find a long list of issues with the homes they sell. No Home Life employees ever visited our home; they relied on their set-up crews and provided no supervision or oversight.
Not only did Home Life do poor work setting up and trimming out the house, but there was obviously poor workmanship from Cavco Destiny Homes, and the Destiny repairmen do marginal repairs too. This consistent level of substandard work is truly disappointing. We cannot recommend Home Life or Cavco Destiny Homes! If you want a reseller who will stand behind their products and deliver on their promises, Home Life is not that company!
