Always hear that Wallys is a good place for drinks so I finally came by. It's a cool looking place on Mills and yes it is a dive bar but its not dirty and grungey like you'd think a dive bar would be. Service was fast and great. My wife had a tequila seltzer and said it tasted really weird and smelled funny so I took a sniff and yeah it smelled like a dirty sock and tasted JUST LIKE ONE TOO! Of course I chugged that dirty sock anyway! My drink was good at least . Loved the place! read more

Wally's is a staple dive bar on Mills 50. They have their own parking lot, but space is limited. Great thing about Mills is there is plenty of street parking and lots of parking in the neighborhoods nearby. Great spot for cheap drinks and LORD do you get a heavy pour here. Bar is pretty small and has usually a few bartenders, have never had to wait too long for a drink unless they are slammed busy. They have darts in a corner and a small bathroom with only one stall for ladies, so keep that in mind if you have an acorn sized bladder like i do! Always a nice chill time every time I go. Wally's Bar and Liquors has been an Orlando, Florida institution since 1954. That's a long tome and a lot of drinks. The staff is friendly and the conversation with the other customers was typical fun bar conversations. It is interesting how varied the conversations you can have in bars. It can be a lighthearted conversation all the way to some in-depth and deep conversations. Wally's Bar and Liquors has seen Orlando throughout the generations. To keep how long Wally's has been here, when the bar opened back in 1954, songs like "(We're Gonna) Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and his Comets, "Earth Angel" by the Penguins, and other songs like it were ushering in a new sound called rock and roll were getting teenagers to tap their feet. Eliis Island closed as a point of immigration. Marilyn Monroe married Joe DiMaggio. The world saw the first mass inoculation against polio in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. "On the Waterfront" and "The Caine Mutiny" were in movie theaters. The world certainly has changed. Yet, Wally's Bar and Liquors is still here. That says a lot. 4 Stars for an updated Wally's that may not have the same divey-vibe, but you won't have to burn your clothing afterwards from the cigarette smoke. It's been a minute since Wally's closed, was bought up, and renovated, and I've yet to visit the newly-updated bar. I'm a sucker for nostalgia and was kind of bummed that it was changing, but once I got over my internal little hissy-fit, I was glad I'd given it a shot. Right when you walk in you'll notice three things: 1- The signature wallpaper has been preserved. 2- It doesn't smell like an ashtray anymore (PRAISE) 3- Wally's is still intentionally dimly lit, but everything looks clean and new. Part of me was bummed about the last two, but then I realized the smell and grime would sometimes keep me away from Wally's because it would take days and 5 showers for me to smell like myself after a night out there. Our bartender, Lee, was a pleasure. Super friendly and efficient. Now, I'll reveal the other big change. They measure out the liquor... the old Wally's pour of days past are just that- past. To clarify- you get a fair pour. Quick anecdote now that there's new ownership: Back in the day, some friends and I closed the bar and the bartender gave us water bottles filled with White Russians TO-GO. Lol ahhh, those days are gone. (Probably a good thing... damnit) Two final notes: - The bathrooms have also been upgraded. My previous visits (pre-update) always left me squatting precariously over a very unattractive toilet, with one hand on the door holding it closed because the latch was broken... So I'm a big fan of this change. - It's still a bottle store, but be aware that it's priced by demand in some cases. I saw a bottle of Blanton's and asked if it was for sale. Lee looked it up and it was selling for $250 a bottle. Um. It should retail at ~$60, so this was definitely priced based on what bottles are selling for on the secondary market. Same with a few other more rare bottles they've got. Overall, a great experience and a really enjoyable time chatting with the bartender. I wanted to stay bummed about the changes, but it's actually a much more enjoyable experience. read more

I love dive bars and this is one of the best I've seen. First of all, it's also a liquor store so they've got that going for them. The patrons seem to be local, friendly, and unique. And the staff, well Cindy, is amazing! She is the biggest sweetheart and makes everyone feel like the king of Mills Ave. She's like the den mother that also helps you get hammered and makes sure everyone is having a great time. Speaking of the drinks, they're cheap as all get out and stiff as a board... dare I even say too much booze? No, I don't dare. In the two nights, I was there I never saw an empty drink or a full ashtray. Cindy even took a special drink request and made it just for me! I asked for her hand in marriage but she sadly declined. As I was attending the one year anniversary of Orlando parking lot party, I walked in here to use the bathroom. I've seen this place only driving by buy but have never been inside. I will say although the food outside was great, this bar was busy and for me it looks like a hidden gem. If it wasn't that I had my kids with me I probably would of taken my food inside and probably closed this bar. I definitely need to go for another occasion. Service is always friendly and the tight space around the bar lends itself to a more communicative experience. You'll meet all sorts of interesting or uninteresting people depending how you see it. But I have a major distain for smoke and the fact you can smoke cigs in here, is the mean reason I didn't love it. I did enjoy a cold beer while chatting with my friends I only see a handful of times per year. There were a ton of beers in the coolers next door. You could actually just go and pick a beer out. When I heard of it's closing our group chat was on fire. Some were in tears. We actually passed by just last weekend as I was in town, and remembered the one magical night where my friends got hammered by stiff cocktails, and we stumbled home, smelling like a Vegas casino in the 70s. There is smoking allowed inside, the bar is decorated with wallpaper of naked ladies, the beers are served ice cold wrapped in wet paper towel to preserve the icey-ness and the cocktails....the cocktails are more liquor with a splash of mixer (light on the mixer). Wally's has absolutely no frills which is perfect for a dive bar. You can come as you are, enjoy time with friends and maybe work up enough liquid courage to request $10 worth of reggeaton music in the juke box (not the vibe of the bar, just FYI). Not same original Wally's. I'm going with John Morgan's review: meh depending on mood. The environment went from dive bar to less formal kind of speakeasy. They offer some good cocktails but not on that kind of sticks out. I do blame on my timing. It's one of those places where you might be semi up for it depending on your vibe. It's more of 70's or 80's nice bar. I would definitely visit again. I am glad that they have food trucks around in the parking. Nice add. Especially when we arrived at 6pm, it wasn't dark enough to get food on Mills but the truck are good for snack. read more

Oh, Wally's. You gotta love this place. It's cash only, but you get a heck of a pour. If you order a whiskey ginger, expect to get a whole lot of whiskey and very little ginger. If you like fancy drinks, this place isn't for you. If you're looking for a good way to start your night with some stiff drinks, Wally's is perfect. The bar is in the back and there's normally two bartenders who call you "sweetie", no matter who you are. Or if you just need to pick up a few bottles of something, there is a full liquor store in the front. The whole place smells like cigarettes so if you might want to avoid Wally's if you're opposed to that. But the smell and the buzz you get will leave you feeling great. Wally's reminds me of the Park Inn, a since long gone bar in Schodack Landing, NY. In other words, it's your standard, delightful neighborhood toilet where the boozers are regulars and anyone and everyone fits in so long as they can hang. The bartender Jena is no joke and she knows how to pour a solid drink and boot a pain in the arse out of the bar when need be. Old geezers, hospital workers, crack whores, neighborhood townies and the like all come here. And yeah, people smoke here. Get over it. Don't come in...or plan on a shower as soon as you get home. Sip slow because you don't want to end up puking in the bathroom. Be careful not talk to the drunks but beware it might be hard, given how randomly entertaining they can be. Most importantly, get over yourself. PS: The wall paper consists of naked hippies. I have grown to love this place. There is a very divey dive bar feel to it. Dark inside and usually pretty smokey too. The jukebox is always going. They sell packaged bottled beer, wine and liquor in the front and there is a bar in the back room. The bartenders pour the strongest drinks in town. Although this place doesn't have the most inviting look, the crowd and the bartenders here are friendly. Please be aware that the bar only takes cash. There is an ATM but then you are stuck paying a fee so do bring cash with you. read more

I work the third shift, so if I ever wanted to go to a bar after work, I was out of luck. I was out of luck until I heard about Wally's! I'm so glad I found out about this place. It was my first time going but I felt like I was going there for years. I had conversations with random people at the bar, which most of them were nice. It was mainly older folk in the morning. They have several flat panel TVs above and they have this cool touch screen juke box so you can listen to your tunes. The lady who served me the drinks made my gin & ginger's and whiskey & coke's so strong..... just like the way I make them at my house. haha. After four of the drinks, I was pretty hammered. So be careful about the drinks if you are a light drinker. The only negative part is that it is a cash bar.... but if you have a credit card you can just go to the sales part of the place and they will give you cash there. read more
