I'll start off by saying I should've read the menu a bit more closely: the hot dogs are boiled unless specifically asked to be grilled. I think if they were grilled, I'd enjoy them much more. So I've been wanting to get here for a year, and I'm glad my besties and I finally made it. This is how you girl dinner: weenies and martinis! Me and the girls each got a different espresso martini, I def loved the pb espresso martini, it was very very smooth. We then split a hot dog tower and split the hot dogs into thirds and they were incredible. The girl dinner hot dog I think was my absolute favorite. Might need to come back again tho to make a definitive decision on it though. They have homemade sauces and the dill ranch was something I would buy bottles of if they sold it. It's a small local restaurant specializing in hot dogs, sliders and drinks. Parking is tough to find as it's a touristic area in Newport and only street parkings are available. We decided to get the Weiner Tower which comes with choice of 5 weiners (except the high priced ones), fries and choice of 5 sauces. We got the Pizza dog, Pineapple express, Kimchi weiner, BBQ cheddar weiner, and El jefe. All the hot dogs were delicious but i particularly liked el jefe personally. We have been coming to Wally's ever since they opened a few years ago, and I finally figured it's time to leave this place a review! We always have so much fun trying their wide variety of hot dogs. They have so many creative flavor combinations! My favorites include the chili cheese, kimchi, and jammin. They have burgers, fries, and vegetarian options as well. I cant forget to mention their milkshakes! A must have with your meal, they are creamy and frothy. I love them so much because they don't have that disgustingly sweet taste that is so common for shakes and frappes. They taste like milk with a bit of sweetness! I go for vanilla every time. Their espresso martinis are amazing from what Ive heard, but I can't vouch for this as Ive never ordered one. The service is always fast, staff is friendly. The restaurant has some cool decorations and extra seating upstairs that looks like an old victorian house. They are also open super late, we've gone there after a night of drinking and devoured a bunch of dogs. Overall, I feel like Wally's has become a staple on Thames street. Over rated, I wanted to try a Rhode Island hot dog and other types Wally's were offering. To get here was a pain and expensive to park. We walked in and it was crowded which was expected. What I didn't expect was the lack of dine in tables to sit at. We had to settle for a small tight space with a view of the sidewalk. Service was dry. Now on to the food, the Rhody dog was underwhelming in size and flavor. You can not ask $6.95 for a hot dog and expect someone's appetite to be satisfied especially with my big appetite. I complimented the Rhody with Crab Fries but at $9 all that was different was the old bay seasoning on it. The only reason why I'm not giving it 5 out of 5 stars is the food came out surprisingly quick and it makes sense because the quality could've been a little better. The fries were a touch stale and same with the hotdog buns. I got the Wynter Smashburger ($11) and it had that old school diner burger vibe to it. The bun was so soft and I love the flat top char to the burger. I wish I had a little more onion jam, though. For hotdog, I got the Wally, El Jefe and chili cheese ($7 ea) - with my favorite being the El Jefe. The chipotle aïoli mixed with the pico de gallo and cheese sauce was bangin! What I love about their food was how they incorporated cheese. It went perfectly on the burger, and their cheese sauces elevated each hotdog it was on. A friend and I drove from Boston for a day trip and made a point to stop at Wally's. Upon walking in there is no sign or hostess stand and we saw an ordering counter. We placed our orders informing the server we were dining in. We sit down with our drinks and a man brings over our order in to go bags, clearly labeled "dine in." He tells us for future reference if we want to dine in to sit down first. We said ok, are you telling us to leave? He said no and asked if he could bring us any other drinks. He returns 30 seconds later to tell us we have to leave because we didn't follow this unspoken policy. We were midway through eating at this point and had to move our messy hot dogs outside. I've been seeing Wallys everywhere on IG and Social so I was in Newport and said let's go!! Cute place, got seated right away. My wife ordered an OG smashburger. She said it was just ok. I ordered the Rhody add cheese and the Dirty Dog. I was super excited for the Dirty dog, I mean who doesn't like chopped cheese on a hot dog? How can that be bad?? Well they basically just sliced the hot dog and put ground beef on top, added a slice of non melted cheese on top and called it chopped cheese. Chopped cheese needs to have the cheese melted into the burger. This was a big disappointment. The Rhody dog, eh... you can tell the weiner was hanging around in the back. It was a weird off white color like it was sitting around for a while. Which is odd because they were pretty busy and you would think there would be really hot fresh food. So... We stopped in to give it a try...they have most of the famous hot dogs and smash burgers on their menu, but it Wally's version on those famous bites so they are not the real thing. I got the Chicago dog without relish. It was a little different than what I experienced when I was in Chicago, but still very similar and very good. We also got the Mac Burger and I think it was better than the Big Mac, but it was also not even close to the McDonald's version. The buns were very similar to Harry's slider buns, just a little bigger in size. Overall, this place has a cool vibe and a great staff. I'd order that again any time - the flavor profile was balanced with the perfect amount of sweet and heat. Service was friendly. Music was great, the decor is nice, there's plenty of merch. They say they don't charge more than what they are charged for running the card, but then they make you pay tax on it, so you're paying more than the business would pay.
