We chose 22 Bowen's to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, and it couldn't have been a more perfect choice. When making our reservation, we noticed there was an option to mark that we were celebrating an anniversary, and I have to say, they truly acknowledged it in such a thoughtful way. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly hostess who immediately wished us a happy anniversary. We were then escorted upstairs to our table, where we were treated to a beautiful view overlooking the harbor. The restaurant itself is elegant without feeling stuffy, making it the perfect setting for a special occasion. Our server, Cailin, greeted us promptly, wished us a happy anniversary, and offered us a complimentary champagne toast. While neither of us are big champagne drinkers, it was such a thoughtful gesture that immediately made the evening feel even more special. It's little touches like that that turn a nice dinner into a memorable celebration. Moreover, it was just nice to hear the champagne flutes clink. (Plus the champagne was great!) To drink, we both ordered the dragon fruit margaritas. They were not only delicious but absolutely beautiful, with their vibrant pink color and striking black salt rim. To start, we shared the Caesar salad (without anchovies) and the stuffed artichoke. The Caesar dressing tasted homemade and was packed with flavor. The stuffed artichoke was easily the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked and served with a divine green goddess sauce that I could have eaten by the spoonful. My husband also ordered the clam chowder, which he absolutely loved. I don't eat seafood, but I tried a spoonful of the broth and even I thought it was excellent. For our entrées, my husband ordered the pork, and I chose the New York strip steak. Both were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. I paired my steak with both the horseradish crema and Bowen's steak sauce, while my husband enjoyed the chimichurri with his pork. Every sauce complemented the dishes beautifully. For sides, we ordered the seasonal vegetables, which were perfectly cooked green beans, the four-cheese potatoes au gratin with crumbled bacon, and the truffle mac and cheese. The potatoes were rich and comforting, the green beans provided the perfect balance, and the truffle mac and cheese was absolutely incredible, not to mention a very generous portion. Before our entrées arrived, our table was presented with beautiful steak knives, another thoughtful detail that elevated the experience and made cutting into the steak effortless. By the end of dinner we were completely full, so instead of dessert we each ordered an espresso martini. They were perfectly balanced and the ideal way to end such an incredible meal. From the stunning harbor views and elegant atmosphere to the impeccable service and outstanding food, every part of our evening felt special. We left feeling celebrated, and we're so happy we chose 22 Bowen's for our first wedding anniversary. If you're looking for a restaurant in Newport to celebrate a milestone or simply enjoy an exceptional meal, this is one I wholeheartedly recommend.

This probably was one of our favorite restaurants of our 12-day trip... definitely in the top TWO. While we had great food along the entire way, this restaurant was perfect in every way. We got to dine outdoors but in a covered setting. The menu had my favorite foods, all food was impeccable, and I was there celebrating my 20th anniversary with my husband. Our trip was all about our anniversary, and we celebrated every day and night doing our favorite things... sightseeing, relaxing and eating fabulous food. It started with some great bread service. We then ordered two appetizers... stuffed artichokes and crispy calamari. The grilled artichokes were stuffed with spinach and pecorino romano cheese and drenched in a green goddess sauce. It was very tasty. The calamari came with 3 different peppers tossed throughout. The calamari had a thicker batter than we typically get, but it still tasted quite good, maybe with a zip of spiciness added, too. I think we just prefer a lighter, more tempura-like batter, but we still kept eating it. As for our entree, we actually split one order of the rack of lamb. Each rack was 8 oz., maybe more. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and we had more than enough meat for each of us to eat. We ordered a Bearnaise sauce to go with it. Ironically, as much as I love a good Bearnaise, I ended up eating the lamb without it because it was prepared so well on its own. We also ordered a trio of sides... their mashed potatoes, which were so creamy and buttery (my mouth is watering now just thinking about them), as well as mushrooms and asparagus, both of which were so well seasoned. This was a meal fit for a king and queen, to be sure... and certainly, for an anniversary celebration. Last but not least, no celebratory meal can end without dessert, so we ordered their chocolate mousse cake. It looked gorgeous as we saw other tables ordering it, so that was enough for us to want it. It definitely was as incredible as it looked. A perfect ending to a magnificent meal. Such a great way to close out the last evening in Newport and first stop on our 12-day anniversary road trip. I so wish we lived closer, and if I have anything to say about it, someday we'll return, but in the meantime, thanks for the great memories.

If you're looking for a special dinner in Newport, Twenty Two Bowen's is absolutely worth it. The location right on the waterfront is gorgeous, and if you can snag a table upstairs, do it! We lucked into a last-minute Saturday reservation for four in the upstairs deck room, and the atmosphere was moody, romantic, and perfect for a nice night out. The menu is à la carte, so you'll order your steak and sides separately. We shared the tomahawk steak with mashed potatoes, asparagus, and the mac & cheese, plus espresso martinis to start. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the portion sizes were much larger than we expected--we definitely could have ordered less and still left completely satisfied. What really stood out, though, was the service. Everyone we interacted with was warm, authentic, and genuinely helpful, making the whole experience feel welcoming without being over-the-top. Between the incredible food, beautiful waterfront views, and fantastic service, this is a must-visit steakhouse in Newport. We'd happily come back the next time we're in town.

We had an amazing Father's Day lunch here, sat outside and the weather was PERFECT. Couldn't have asked for a better day! Service was 10/10 and the food was 11/10. We all got soups to start with: french onion soups and chowder. Gotta say, it was one of the best French onion soups I've had. Even the chowder was up there! Entrees were: filet mignon, salmon, 2 lb stuffed lobster, wedge salad with scallops, and pastrami sandwich...with a side of truffle fries and Mac N Cheese. My scallops were juicy and cooked perfectly with the perfect seasoning. I'm still thinking about them to this day. The 2lb stuffed lobster was literally stuffed with huge pieces of scallops and big shrimp! The side of Mac N Cheese can feed a family of four alone. I didn't try the other foods bc I was too busy enjoying mine and trying to finish it. Oh! Forgot we also shared the wagyu tartare which had great flavor but kinda chewy. Maybe the pieces should be diced smaller. We're already thinking about making plans to go back this week and Father's Day was just last Sunday. I'm so glad this is part of NRG bc we can redeem our rewards there! :)

Had a very delicious lunch here! This is the first time I've ever had a surf and turf burger and it was really great! I loved the concept of the burger, although it was a little over cooked, but nonetheless I would still get it again! My fiancés lobster roll was good, but definitely small for the price, so I would probably opt out of that next time. Oysters were really fresh. Overall a great lunch with great views! Next time I would love to eat outside, as it is in a great location, but unfortunately we went on a rainy day.

My wife and I went to 22 Bowen's to celebrate our anniversary. She has never been, and I haven't been in over a decade. The atmosphere was great despite a cloudy, rainy evening. I forgot how nicely appointed the interior is. It has a fabulous bar area that was full. The hostess was great. She gave us a nice table with an excellent view. Our server came over and introduced herself. We ordered a couple of reserve cocktails, including a special Manhattan and a Last Word. The cocktails were fantastic. We began with crab cakes and a wedge salad. We split both so we could try each appetizer. I have to say that these crab cakes were amongst the best I have ever had. The Wedge salad was also very nicely prepared and very flavorful. The dinner rolls were also excellent. Many places forget this entirely these days. We ordered our entrees next. My wife ordered the filet medium rare, and I ordered the 2-pound baked stuffed lobster. We ordered a very nice half-bottle of Cabernet as well. The entrees were served, and my wife cut into the steak. It was way overcooked. The middle was medium well, and the ends were well done. We sent it back. These things happen, and we took it in stride. The problem that developed was time. After 10 minutes, we were told by our server that the new steak would be right out. Well, 5 minutes later, we heard the same thing from Matthew (the manager?). My entrée was getting cold, and I was getting a bit aggravated. I went to the bathroom. When I got back to the table, my wife had her new filet. She said that Matthew apologized profusely and told her that both entrees would be taken off the bill. Her steak was perfectly prepared, and although my entree was a little cold, it was still excellent. I told Matthew that there was no need to remove my entree, but he insisted. As I said, these things happen. When they do, how the restaurant handles it determines how the customer's experience ends. Matthew went out of his way to make up for this mistake. We will return due to his actions. As I said, the cocktails and food were excellent. We want to sit at the bar as we are bar people. Try it out. You won't be sorry.

The ambiance was very new england of course! The food was great!!! Lobster bisque(4/5) Surf and turf burger(4/5) the fries with it could of been better but the burger itself was delicious! Grain bowl with chimichurri chicken (4/5) Service was pretty solid too! Not too much or too little!

Came here for an anniversary dinner and was extremely impressed. Our server Jim was very friendly and helpful with picking our entrees. The frutti di mare was incredibly fresh and well prepared. We also thoroughly enjoyed the chicken Wellington and rice crusted tuna. Every aspect of these dishes was perfect, and we left with all clean plates. Would recommend 22 Bowen's to anyone visiting Newport in search of a fine meal.

Would've gone 4 1/2 stars if available. Grabbed lunch here recently and had a very good experience. Got a wagu pastrami sandwich and a salad with steak. Everything was prepared well. Our server was fantastic. Would 100% return when in the area.

What truly shines here is the service--attentive, thoughtful, and consistent throughout our visit. We sat outside, which offered great people-watching and a lively atmosphere. I'm glad we made a reservation, because the place filled up quickly. The interior has a darker, cozy vibe with nautical-inspired décor that almost makes you feel like you're dining in the hull of a ship. Overall, a wonderful experience.

This place was great! Jim the server was super nice, and his cocktail recommendations were spot on. Restaurant was very pretty, and the ambiance was great (especially since it was the off season for Newport). Would definitely return, the food was magnificent.

Are you guys open during the gas shutoff?

Our gas has been restored as it has been in most of Newport. However, we will still be closed through Thursday, January 3, 2019 for our annual scheduled maintenance on the building. We will reopen for dinner service on Friday, February 1.

Is this Restaurant appropriate for a group of 20 young ladies for a bachelorette party dinner?

Absolutely! 22 Bowens does have an upstairs function room for larger parties. The food is delicious & the staff are friendly & the best at what they do! The location is on the water & close to all the fun of downtown. If you're looking for something…

Every table and bar seat was packed so I highly recommend having a reservation or be prepared to wait a bit. The Romaine & Kale Caesar Salad with Chicken Milanese was genuinely tremendous. Such an elite combination from the freshness & creaminess of the salad to the crispiness and saltiness of the Chicken Milanese. Since we were sharing, they pre-split the portion for us which was a nice hassle-free experience. I could've honestly ended the meal here and been super content. I rarely see oven roasted pizza on the menu so we decided to try the Oven Roasted Chicken Grilled Pizza. The best part was actually the dough; it's thin enough where the roasted/grilled flavor comes through. The pesto and arugula were both good and paired well with the grilled chicken. The Tagliatelle was savory, earthy, and not overly creamy. The pasta itself was cooked just right. Since we were celebrating a birthday, I was so grateful that they offered us a complimentary slice of Limoncello Mascarpone Cake. It was so good! Moist, creamy, and not too sweet or citrusy. It was a pleasant bite to end the meal on. Great spot!

Nestled in the Wharf, it was a cute little place with both an up and downstairs. We reserved a spot for around 5:30 (in April) and it was pretty open. There weren't too customers yet, and it was nice and quiet. If you're looking for a ton of space for the seating area, I will say that there isn't too much room/it's pretty nice and cozy! At Wharf Southern Kitchen and Whiskey Bar, they've got a line of booths along the wall, a bar area right in the center and at the actual bar, a high top, another bar at one of the entrances, and a table that seats six. Now let's chat about the service. Our waitress was wonderful, patient, and was extremely helpful when asked questions and also gave SUCH wonderful suggestions. There were MANY fantastic choices on their menu and I was having a pretty difficult time narrowing down which one I really wanted, but with our waitress's help, I was able to choose pretty quickly (and they were AMAZING choices!) Now the food! The wait for the food honestly wasn't that long, and when we got it, we ABSOLUTELY CHOWED... -The Crispy Chicken Bites were AMAZING! I ended up upgrading to the Buffalo Style, and it DID NOT disappoint at all! The Bleu Cheese crumbles were just the perfect amount, and the Buffalo sauce was JUST enough to still enjoy the crispiness of the chicken. I DID ask for ranch on the side, and that just was *chef's kiss*! -I've never had fried pickles before, but I certainly have never seen a restaurant do it with whole pickles. Though it was my first time trying fried pickles, it tasted great! I wouldn't say it's anything special, but it's a great, and lighter on the fried side, appetizer! -I was having a hard time choosing what entree to enjoy, but I'M SOOOO glad that I went with the Smoked Brisket Chopped Cheese! I'm not a big brisket girl, but I will say that this was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! At first when it came out on the bun, I was a little skeptical of how it would taste, but it definitely didn't disappoint! The brisket was cooked SO well with the perfect amount of seasoning, and it all just melted so perfectly together as I was eating it. And the tater tots were SO AMAZING (though on the saltier side) and SO perfectly crispy. I've only got great things to say about Wharf Southern Kitchen & Whiskey Bar & I WILL be back here/will suggest it to my friends visiting Newport one day!

My biggest disappointment, however, has been the oysters. They consistently arrive with little to no oyster liquor--the natural briny liquid inside the shell that is an essential part of the experience. Whether it's being lost during shucking or spilled before they reach the table, it's a noticeable issue. At a restaurant charging premium prices for fresh oysters, I would expect more attention to this detail. The oyster liquor contributes significantly to the flavor and freshness, and its absence really takes away from an otherwise excellent dining experience. This bar & restaurant has three floors filled with plenty of entertainment until 1AM. We started off our first night in Newport by having an early dinner here on a Friday. We sat ourselves at the bar on the first floor. The bartenders were friendly and attentive - no complaints on service. To start off, I ordered my usual drink... a classic margarita. It was strong and tarty with a good kick. Their menu offers your typical American pub food like burgers, sandwiches, wings, tacos, wraps, etc. They had a BOGO deal for their spicy fried chicken sandwich (~$14), so we couldn't resist saying no to that lol. The meal included a spicy fried chicken, lettuce, pickles, and spicy aioli sauce on a brioche bun with a side of fries. The portion size was generous and just enough to fill my belly, but not enough to put me into a food coma. The chicken was tender and juicy and I loved how fluffy and buttery the brioche bun was. There was a little too much batter on the chicken than I would have liked, but it was still a delicious sandwich nonetheless. The fries were super crispy and crunchy, 10/10. I'm curious to know what their other sandwiches taste like! Around 8pm, it turns into more of a bar/club atmosphere. It gets progressively packed and loud. There are bouncers at the door to check for IDs and to handle cover fees (if needed). There's live music every weekend from 8-11pm, as well as a DJ from 11pm - closing. The top floor of the restaurant hosts their famous Dueling Piano show where two entertainers perform and engage in playful competition. You request songs for them to play on a grand piano, so it's a fun and interactive experience. Reservations are required in advance. Check their website for the full schedule of their live music performances and show times. Since we got there early, we were able to keep our seats at the bar to watch the live music performance. The crowd was pretty diverse and a mix of all ages. Everyone was having a great time!

Over the course of our stay we enjoyed the Pell Special, French toast, and veggie omelet. On the downside was one morning's meat lovers omelet that was overdone and close to tasteless. On our last evening we decided to have dinner in-house starting with a shared arugula salad that was lightly dressed and delicious. For an entree my wife chose salmon while I focused my attention on scallops. Each proved to be surprisingly delicious so we would not hesitate to return. We paid for one entree and received the second free courtesy of our Newport County Dinner Club card. Service, both in the morning and evening, ranged from very good to excellent.

We had reservations and waited about 15 minutes to be seated though the host was very nice. They were going to sit us on a 6 top in the middle of the restaurant but moved us to a smaller quieter table as we didn't need such a large table. We ordered shortly after being seated. I ordered the prix fixe menu with came with salad/soup, an entree and a dessert. I also ordered off the kids menu. I ordered mocktails for my kids and a cocktail for myself that came out quickly. I'm a tequila lover so I got the naked and famous which I loved. After our drinks everything went downhill. We then waited almost an hour and a half for our food. I tried to get our servers attention multiple times to ask why the wait was so long. She never bothered to check in with us to let us know we would be waiting so long. I looked over and noticed that the 6 top who sat and ordered well after us had already received their food. When I called our server over to ask if she could at least bring out the soup or kids meal so that my kids wouldn't starve. She stated that she couldn't bring anything out until the kitchen brought everything out together. She said the kitchen was backed up and kind of shrugged me off. Again, I ordered a prix fixe so why would all the courses come out together? That makes zero sense. I pointed out that the family who ordered after us had already gotten their food. She rolled her eyes and walked away. At this point we were already waiting for 1 hour at this point. Normally this behavior would have had me walking out but we were staying at the hotel, had already waited an hour and it was Valentine's Day so anywhere else would have been busy. A few minutes later she brought out some soup for my daughter, no apologies just matter of factly like she did me a favor by bringing out our soup. The table next to us asked her for some fries as they also had a child starving to them she apologized and replied not a problem I'll bring out some fries for you. When we did get our food we were disappointed with everything besides the kids pasta. The pasta was the only thing that tasted ok. The salmon was burnt and the sweet potato puree tasted old and really had no flavor. I missed the part of bacon bits in the green beans so that's on me but the bacon with the salmon did not go together at all. The chicken sandwich was dry and lacked flavor while the fries were okay. I asked for the dessert to go because I didn't want to wait for another hour. She first brought it out on a regular dish then took it to the kitchen and had it mushed in a Togo container not separating the bread from the cream. When I did finally take the dessert to my room I did not enjoy it at all either this was hard and I would not call it bread pudding. It was literally chunks of bread with cream spread on top. The hotel itself was fantastic but our experience at the restaurant was horrible. The front desk was apologetic and accommodating when we checked out however so we will definitely come back to stay at the hotel, but will most likely avoid the restaurant.
