We started with a couple cocktails which were decent but I would suggest a bottle of wine instead to better suit their menu. The Crispy Calamari was so satisfying. It was crispy, not chewy at all, and the peppers and lemon added a bright zestiness to each bite. The Lobster Bisque was also the best I've ever had. It was soothing, buttery, and loaded with lobster! Since we were sharing, they pre-split the portion for us which was a thoughtful touch. We got the Bone In Delmonica 18oz which comes with one accompanying sauce. We got the truffle butter and I wish they'd give at least 2 because the horseradish crema and chimichurri also caught my eye. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium. It was charred on the outside, juicy on the inside, and went well with the sides. Speaking of sides, the Truffle Mac & Cheese is a huge portion for ~$16! Not to mention, it's so creamy, cheesy, and earthy from the truffle. I loved it! The 22B Mashed Potatoes were delicately smooth and paired well with the steak. We ended with the Old Fashioned Carrot Cake which was moist, had good texture, and a delicious cream cheese frosting. I appreciate the fact that it was complimentary; getting a free birthday dessert has become a lost art but not at 22 Bowen's! I was looking for the best steak in Newport and I sure found it. I ordered the $56 New York strip cooked with a warm red center and it came out perfect! It is not heavily seasoned and it was tender and flavorful. The juices surrounded the steak, really that's all it needed. I did order a side of Demi, but hardly used it. We sat at the upstairs bar and had the best service and even got to watch the Red Sox game. 22 Bowen's Wharf has a crazy selection of steaks, I'm sure I didn't pick their best, but it was exactly what I was looking for. We started with the local farm stand salad with fresh burrata cheese and locally gown tomatoes. It was amazing...nothing like fresh summer grown tomatoes and basil from Rhode island. We chose 22 Bowen's to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, and it couldn't have been a more perfect choice. When making our reservation, we noticed there was an option to mark that we were celebrating an anniversary, and I have to say, they truly acknowledged it in such a thoughtful way. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly hostess who immediately wished us a happy anniversary. We were then escorted upstairs to our table, where we were treated to a beautiful view overlooking the harbor. The restaurant itself is elegant without feeling stuffy, making it the perfect setting for a special occasion. Our server, Cailin, greeted us promptly, wished us a happy anniversary, and offered us a complimentary champagne toast. While neither of us are big champagne drinkers, it was such a thoughtful gesture that immediately made the evening feel even more special. It's little touches like that that turn a nice dinner into a memorable celebration. Moreover, it was just nice to hear the champagne flutes clink. (Plus the champagne was great!) To drink, we both ordered the dragon fruit margaritas. They were not only delicious but absolutely beautiful, with their vibrant pink color and striking black salt rim. To start, we shared the Caesar salad (without anchovies) and the stuffed artichoke. The Caesar dressing tasted homemade and was packed with flavor. The stuffed artichoke was easily the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked and served with a divine green goddess sauce that I could have eaten by the spoonful. My husband also ordered the clam chowder, which he absolutely loved. I don't eat seafood, but I tried a spoonful of the broth and even I thought it was excellent. For our entrées, my husband ordered the pork, and I chose the New York strip steak. Both were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. I paired my steak with both the horseradish crema and Bowen's steak sauce, while my husband enjoyed the chimichurri with his pork. Every sauce complemented the dishes beautifully. For sides, we ordered the seasonal vegetables, which were perfectly cooked green beans, the four-cheese potatoes au gratin with crumbled bacon, and the truffle mac and cheese. The potatoes were rich and comforting, the green beans provided the perfect balance, and the truffle mac and cheese was absolutely incredible, not to mention a very generous portion. Before our entrées arrived, our table was presented with beautiful steak knives, another thoughtful detail that elevated the experience and made cutting into the steak effortless. By the end of dinner we were completely full, so instead of dessert we each ordered an espresso martini. They were perfectly balanced and the ideal way to end such an incredible meal. From the stunning harbor views and elegant atmosphere to the impeccable service and outstanding food, every part of our evening felt special. This probably was one of our favorite restaurants of our 12-day trip... definitely in the top TWO. While we had great food along the entire way, this restaurant was perfect in every way. We got to dine outdoors but in a covered setting. The menu had my favorite foods, all food was impeccable, and I was there celebrating my 20th anniversary with my husband. Our trip was all about our anniversary, and we celebrated every day and night doing our favorite things... sightseeing, relaxing and eating fabulous food. It started with some great bread service. We then ordered two appetizers... stuffed artichokes and crispy calamari. The grilled artichokes were stuffed with spinach and pecorino romano cheese and drenched in a green goddess sauce. It was very tasty. The calamari came with 3 different peppers tossed throughout. The calamari had a thicker batter than we typically get, but it still tasted quite good, maybe with a zip of spiciness added, too. I think we just prefer a lighter, more tempura-like batter, but we still kept eating it. As for our entree, we actually split one order of the rack of lamb. Each rack was 8 oz., maybe more. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and we had more than enough meat for each of us to eat. We ordered a Bearnaise sauce to go with it. Ironically, as much as I love a good Bearnaise, I ended up eating the lamb without it because it was prepared so well on its own. We also ordered a trio of sides... their mashed potatoes, which were so creamy and buttery (my mouth is watering now just thinking about them), as well as mushrooms and asparagus, both of which were so well seasoned. This was a meal fit for a king and queen, to be sure... and certainly, for an anniversary celebration. Last but not least, no celebratory meal can end without dessert, so we ordered their chocolate mousse cake. It looked gorgeous as we saw other tables ordering it, so that was enough for us to want it. It definitely was as incredible as it looked. A perfect ending to a magnificent meal. Such a great way to close out the last evening in Newport and first stop on our 12-day anniversary road trip. If you're looking for a special dinner in Newport, Twenty Two Bowen's is absolutely worth it. The location right on the waterfront is gorgeous, and if you can snag a table upstairs, do it! We lucked into a last-minute Saturday reservation for four in the upstairs deck room, and the atmosphere was moody, romantic, and perfect for a nice night out. The menu is à la carte, so you'll order your steak and sides separately. We shared the tomahawk steak with mashed potatoes, asparagus, and the mac & cheese, plus espresso martinis to start. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the portion sizes were much larger than we expected--we definitely could have ordered less and still left completely satisfied. What really stood out, though, was the service. Everyone we interacted with was warm, authentic, and genuinely helpful, making the whole experience feel welcoming without being over-the-top. Between the incredible food, beautiful waterfront views, and fantastic service, this is a must-visit steakhouse in Newport. We'd happily come back the next time we're in town. read more

We had an amazing Father's Day lunch here, sat outside and the weather was PERFECT. Couldn't have asked for a better day! Service was 10/10 and the food was 11/10. We all got soups to start with: french onion soups and chowder. Gotta say, it was one of the best French onion soups I've had. Even the chowder was up there! Entrees were: filet mignon, salmon, 2 lb stuffed lobster, wedge salad with scallops, and pastrami sandwich...with a side of truffle fries and Mac N Cheese. My scallops were juicy and cooked perfectly with the perfect seasoning. I'm still thinking about them to this day. The 2lb stuffed lobster was literally stuffed with huge pieces of scallops and big shrimp! The side of Mac N Cheese can feed a family of four alone. I didn't try the other foods bc I was too busy enjoying mine and trying to finish it. Oh! Forgot we also shared the wagyu tartare which had great flavor but kinda chewy. Maybe the pieces should be diced smaller. We're already thinking about making plans to go back this week and Father's Day was just last Sunday. Had a very delicious lunch here! This is the first time I've ever had a surf and turf burger and it was really great! I loved the concept of the burger, although it was a little over cooked, but nonetheless I would still get it again! My fiancés lobster roll was good, but definitely small for the price, so I would probably opt out of that next time. Oysters were really fresh. Overall a great lunch with great views! My wife and I went to 22 Bowen's to celebrate our anniversary. She has never been, and I haven't been in over a decade. The atmosphere was great despite a cloudy, rainy evening. I forgot how nicely appointed the interior is. It has a fabulous bar area that was full. The hostess was great. She gave us a nice table with an excellent view. Our server came over and introduced herself. We ordered a couple of reserve cocktails, including a special Manhattan and a Last Word. The cocktails were fantastic. We began with crab cakes and a wedge salad. We split both so we could try each appetizer. I have to say that these crab cakes were amongst the best I have ever had. The Wedge salad was also very nicely prepared and very flavorful. The dinner rolls were also excellent. Many places forget this entirely these days. We ordered our entrees next. My wife ordered the filet medium rare, and I ordered the 2-pound baked stuffed lobster. We ordered a very nice half-bottle of Cabernet as well. The entrees were served, and my wife cut into the steak. It was way overcooked. The middle was medium well, and the ends were well done. We sent it back. These things happen, and we took it in stride. The problem that developed was time. After 10 minutes, we were told by our server that the new steak would be right out. Well, 5 minutes later, we heard the same thing from Matthew (the manager?). My entrée was getting cold, and I was getting a bit aggravated. I went to the bathroom. When I got back to the table, my wife had her new filet. She said that Matthew apologized profusely and told her that both entrees would be taken off the bill. Her steak was perfectly prepared, and although my entree was a little cold, it was still excellent. I told Matthew that there was no need to remove my entree, but he insisted. As I said, these things happen. When they do, how the restaurant handles it determines how the customer's experience ends. Matthew went out of his way to make up for this mistake. We will return due to his actions. As I said, the cocktails and food were excellent. We want to sit at the bar as we are bar people. Try it out. You won't be sorry. read more

An elite spot in Newport, Rhode Island with fantastic vibes. The location and atmosphere are just exceptional. Five out of five, no question. Service: 2/5 Not what you'd expect at this price point. Drinks took a while, and we never got bread while other tables did. The waiter wasn't rude, but at a premium steakhouse, I expect premium service. Simple as that. Food: 3/5 My wife and I ordered the New York strip, two lobster tails, lobster bisque, and a side of asparagus. The lobster bisque was fantastic -- loaded with lobster, incredibly tasty. My wife called it a top five lobster bisque she's ever had. Only knock was it wasn't piping hot when it arrived. The lobster tails were the star of the show. Truly excellent -- warm lobster butter, cooked perfectly. But I'll be honest, you're in the lobster capital of the world. I expect that. Other restaurants in Newport probably deliver the same. The New York strip was disappointing. I ordered medium rare and it came out closer to medium well. For a $55 steak at a place known for their steaks, that is simply not acceptable. The cut itself wasn't impressive either. I've been to great steakhouses around the world and this does not belong in that conversation. Overall: 3/5 Come here for the vibes -- it's a genuinely great date night spot in one of the most beautiful settings in New England. The food is good but expensive, and the service needs work. We had the salad special with plums and walnuts--it should have been better than it was, there were a few bits of plums and walnuts with a lot of greens. This was my favorite meal of our trip, & we hadn't planned for it. We were having coffee at the end of the pier and decided we needed something more substantial, after a verrrry late breakfast. Despite the fact that we were towards the end of the typical lunch crowd, after 1:20 pm, the place was still hopping. I'd recommend making a reservation in advance and requesting the upstairs seating section: they have the best view. My view was of the bar, the kitchen, and the hall leading to the bathrooms. Without a reservation, we were grateful for any table. Having spent 4 times the bill here on dinner the night before, we were delighted to discover they had a lunchtime menu special for just $22. I ordered their salad (originally out of "obligation" to assuage my nutritional guilt) & an enjoyed a gorgeous burger. Both were wonderful--the salad was really fresh and flavorful and paired so well with the burger's savory decadence. My partner ordered a cup of clam chowder, which she thought was excellent, and the same tasty burger. We both received very generous portions we were unable to finish. Service was friendly and allergy-aware. They had a coat check, which was a nice touch given our many layers in March. Staff were solicitous and plentiful. Spoke with at least one manager...maybe 2? The atmosphere and views are excellent request second floor inside seating to so view of marina. They do have outdoor seating too. The calamari was excellent. I would recommend it. For dessert the crème brûlée was excellent and our waiter Scort is very knowledgeable and has excellent recommendations. This is a must try restaurant if you come to Newport. The hostess didn't acknowledge us when we walked in. We did arrive early to sit at the bar until our table was ready. I asked to be seated if something was available sooner. They never called us to seat us at a table, instead at 8:45 we went back to the host stand to be seated (the restaurant had plenty of available tables at this point). The food was good. The oysters could have been shucked better. I was consuming a lot of shell pieces. We ordered the Tomahawk for 2 to share for our entree. It was good, nothing memorable. It was nice that you should choose a sauce/butter to accompany your steak at no additional charge. I did include in my reservation that my boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary which nobody acknowledged. We never expect anything but just the acknowledgment would have been nice after all we are celebrating a special occasion and the meal did not come cheap. I specifically called and asked if the restaurant could accommodate a special dessert plate with "Will You Marry Me" written on it, and the staff member assured me it would not be a problem. Unfortunately, when the moment came, nothing was done. I went to the front afterward to ask why the request was never fulfilled, and the manager simply told me, "We don't do that." It was upsetting and embarrassing, especially after being promised otherwise. A proposal is a once-in-a-lifetime moment, and the lack of communication completely ruined what I had planned. As for the food, it was mediocre at best. My fish and chips were decent, but the fries were overly salty. My fiancée's Caesar salad was very dry, and we had to ask for additional dressing. The anchovies were also slimy, which completely turned her off from the dish. Overall, the experience was disappointing from both a service and dining perspective.
