We didn't want to buy resort food, because the prices are going to be nuts, so we decided to go to Wal-Mart and supply up. Place was packed! You'll find typical Wal-Mart offerings PLUS a great selection of Hawaiian themed clothing and gifts. They also sell flippers, snorkel gear, body boards, etc. The parking lot is vast and extremely busy. I've never seen a busier Wal-Mart parking lot, or store. Tip: If your group is staying at ANY resort, or if you're leaving the area, stock up on snacks, sandwich-makings, and beverages both adult and non-adult. We like to stock up on mac nuts, coconut candy, japanese crackers, chocolate, snacks, coffee, you name it. Wasabi flavored Funions, wasabi flavored macadamia nuts, dried cuttlefish, oh my. The service at the optical counter was fantastic. my sunglasses broke while on vacation and just needed a screw. One of the sales reps searched for the right screw and fixed them for me, free of charge. I could also tell she cleaned my sunglasses before she gave them back to me. Walmarts are standard wherever you go, but this location came in clutch for our Hawaii stay! We came to this location 3-4 times for snacks, souvenirs and other little purchases here and there. Once you get inside this Walmart, it feels like you're in any other Walmart to the point that it seems like you're not even in Hawaii anymore. This Walmart does offer products you can't get in California. My family and I bought the specialty pancake batters, macadamia chocolates and their specialty candies. Not much else to say about this Walmart, highly recommend if you need groceries, snacks or other household items during your stay in Hawaii! read more

Walmart needs to re-train some of their staff. Perhaps even do a better background check because their staff are rude, lazy, and disingenuous. It was 10:40pm. Walmart is supposed to close at 11pm. A supposed newly hired staff, Edna, was yelling at my mom saying they're closed when clearly, they got 20 more minutes left. So another staff ended up letting my mom in to buy a tool that they needed. Then while leaving, my mom passes by the same staff so she tells the staff she'd appreciate it if staff would have a better tone especially considering where customer service is expected and Edna yells at my mom again, stating that she's new and doesn't know anything?! Like wtf?! You're new so you don't know what time the store closes, have the audacity to give my mom attitude and tell her incorrect information and you proceed to yell at my mom trying to get her to leave refusing to help her find anything because you're new and don't know anything. Wow. Talk about employee of the month... this woman was clearly full of shit. I get that you're lazy and all but do your job. And learn some customer service. Or at the very least, be nice --especially to your elders-- just cuz my mom can't speak English well, no need to be a b**** read more

Great store which I frequent often. Today however the cashier seemed uninterested in checking me out. She never made eye contact. Unfriendly. Chewing gum and didn't speak English all that well. She seemed tired. When I went to file a formal complaint. I was referred to customer-service. Don't be fooled by the Walmart name, stuff is way cheaper at the abc stores and even the local malls. Paid over $20 for sunscreen to be considerate of using mineral sunscreen and found that out it's at least $7 to $8 cheaper per sunscreen at the other stores. Same with the chips and other snacks. John, the store manager is disingenuous when engaging on serious issue with the pharmacy concerning anti-epileptic medication or holding employees accountable. Walmart pharmacy's lax attitude in medication coordination is appalling and borderline negligent. The store's attitude reflects that of the manager. Buy your shower curtain there, but leave your pharmaceutical concerns to the professionals who are NOT affiliated with Walmart. I was amazed at how much the layout of the Kona Walmart resembled the Aero Drive, San Diego Walmart. Leaving the store I almost expected to see Murphy Canyon Road and FWY 15. However, the view from this Walmart parking lot is extraordinary and very Hawaiian, including the azure blue Pacific and lush green hills. But I doubt people patronize this Walmart for the excellent view (Or do they?). The prices are the best in the Kona area on just about anything and everything. I needed a specific electronic part and the found the customer service to be extremely helpful. Also ended up buying some snacks, a six-pack of Kona Longboard and perishables for our stay in Kona. The locals love this place, and yes, the parking lot is somewhat frenetic. Sure glad I found this place. It's in Kona, Hawaii and located on a street named Henry. Go figure. read more

We probably spent about $500 here altogether on our visit to Kona. We had bought shampoo and conditioner and new pillows as the reviews for our Airbnb said the pillows were bad and bring own stuff. When we got there, there was plenty of pillows and also hair stuff. So we enjoyed the vacation, put the stuff to return in the trunk and finally had a chance the night before we left the island. I go inside and customer service is closed. I talk to the lady at the door. She reiterated they're closed and it's up to the manager if she wants to. But she's going on lunch soon. She tells me I can return on the mainland and I tell her it's not an option. One- were in there to buy a new suitcase. We don't have room for a big pillow to come home with us. So Miss Cindy comes over and tells us we can also return on the mainland and I again say not an option. She says you seem a little pissed off. I ignore her comment and say that doesn't apply to this. I just want to make a return. She then begins the return. I tell her we didn't need it. They were not used. We actually bought 3 pillows and used them. The third is unused and being returned. She then opens the shampoo and conditioner saying many people return after they used. I again tell her we didn't use them, just didn't need them. She tells me there's lots of homeless people and thief's. That doesn't apply here, I tell her. She finishes the return and proceeds to tell me how she's losing employees because people are rude to them. Doesn't apply here. I just asked for a manager. She then finishes up and tells me sarcastically she'll pray for my safe return home. We buy our suitcase and last minute souvenirs and leave. Didn't need that stress at the end of our trip nor did we need whatever curse she attempted to put on our flight home. Again, we spent a lot of money in Walmart and on the island and this customer service was not appreciated. Back at home safe, Cindy! read more

Let's be honest here, no one is going to Walmart because they have to, but let me tel you this. I have a friend who was exposed to COVID. This employee was told to LIE on her daily evaluation app when logging into work. They were told to LIE about being exposed because they needed to come into work that day. It didn't happen once, or twice, but three different times! There are people currently working at this Walmart who show symptoms. It was in this Walmart that I was reminded of what a truly terrible person I am. It was a long line and very slow line that brought these thoughts into my mind. For whatever reason it is in such lines that my thoughts run wild and well... At the very least it was all in my head. Insanity inducing lines aside this Walmart is close enough to the airport that you wont have to go out of the way to stock up on snacks and drinks for your stay. I actually forgot my sunglasses and ended up getting some of those as well. Which was great because at $15, they more than paid for themselves in my holiday comfort. I actually still have them and will brag to anyone who will listen about how they are "designer" because they claimed that right on the tag! Wine and beer are on offer at prices that aren't too bad. I often forget about island life, though the islands I lived on were more affordable countries. I was actually surprised that a lot of the wine was about the same price as San Diego so yay for boozing! Bring your patience because what everyone says about the lines and the slowness of them is 100% true. read more

There's a few things that I really like about this Walmart and for those reasons I'll shop here. Otherwise, I prefer Target. Yes, Target can be a little pricey, BUT it's cleaner, shelves are better stocked, it's far less crowded, and the staff are friendlier. Walmart pros: Their garden section. They have a good variety of plants and flowers, and they always look green and healthy. And they are cheap! I'm always tempted to buy another plant when I visit because I feel like it's such a good deal! Their craft section. I'm always impressed with their variety of fabrics and assortment of craft supplies. I can usually find what I need without needing to go to a craft store, and it's usually cheaper as well. Their photo center. Their one hour prints service is so convenient for me. Always done within the time frame, and always cheap. I wish they also offered glossy 1 hour prints, right now it's only matte. The only other place where you can get a good deal on photos is Costco, however you of course need a membership, and at Walmart you don't. However, I have experienced hiccups in the service where they lost my order and another where they made a mistake on my order. What's worse is that on both events, they were not quick to accept fault; they blamed a worker who had already left for the day and essentially didn't care to rectify the situation. I got a pair of cargo shorts here so that I wouldn't have to wear jeans all the time in humid Kona. This Walmart also has a large and well-stocked selection of Macadamia nuts at very reasonable prices. We should've bought them here instead of waiting till we were on Oahu, since the selection at the Honolulu Walmart was much more limited and more expensive. This is the only Walmart I've been to where there isn't a dude at the exit "checking" (but not very carefully) receipts and drawing a line through them with a marker (what's the point of that, anyway?). You mean at this Walmart, not everybody is treated like a criminal as they leave the store? Yup. That was a breath of fresh air. Kona, I'll miss you. Parking was tight, but that's because there's only one way to enter/exit the parking lot, and we didn't notice there were more spaces further away from the store. If you park out there, you'll probably find a lot of free spaces. There's also a Safeway conveniently located next door, but getting there requires walking around the fence and up the hill unless you happened to bring your jetpack. read more

When Walmart first came to the Islands ,It was a big deal! A huge deal! When it came to Maui it was a party, they had a Parade. When you live on the Island and you have to have everything shipped to you(at a high cost) it is a major Blessing to have stores like this here. Now there are all the stores, Walmart, Kmart, Target. It is amazing. Anyway, this is a huge Walmart. I guess what you would call the Walmart superstore. The most amazing thing about this Walmart is the View. Ahh yes the View!! From the parking lot you can see the country side and the Ocean. She's a Beauty. The store is packed with everything you would find on the Mainland Walmart and more. Groceries and all at reasonable prices, clothes, Jewelry, and a Bank. Even a McDonalds. They have an absolutely beautiful lawn and Garden center. Filled with beautiful and amazing plants. Of course none of them would ever grow in Arizona the way they do there, and you could not bring them back anyway. That is just another great thing about Hawaii, the plants grow so beautifully. Restrooms are clean and the store is well maintained. remember to bring your own shopping bags. Or you pay .26cents a bag. Still reasonable, because they are reusable bags. read more

They carry an array of souvenirs at pretty good prices, way cheaper than ABC stores. They carry everything from magnets, Hawaiian shirts, calendars and lots of Hawaiian themed products that are made in China. Ha! They also carry Macnut chocolates, coffee, and popular local snacks. So forget about the other places tourists, get your made in China, Hawaiian souvenirs here! Last, this Walmart is open late! I really love WalMart because they have a great selection and awesome prices. Honestly, out of all the other places to buy essentials (or random) things, WalMart is by far my, favorite. They have a nice clearance section, and once I bought a board game for probably half the price (or something like that). Board games can get pretty expensive so this was such an awesome deal. Their clearance section is kinda near the garden section. At this particular location, I always go to the cash registers at the back in the garden area. There aren't as many registers back here but I feel like it's typically less crowded. They have their own parking lot--which is pretty big--and inside they have a small McDonalds as well as an eye center near the main entrance of the store. read more

Poor customer service! 10 minutes looking g for associates to unlock cosmetics item. Asked 6 people to call for associate with key, nothing!! No service bell, no associate with key, associates that attempted to get assistance with no help!! 3 other people were looking for assistance during the time we waited for anyone to unlock area! They have great Hawaiian gifts such as mugs, flowers to pin in your hair like the wonderful Plumaria variety, Hawaiian Plumaria perfume, refrigerator magnets, Hawaiian stickers for your car. We would go into Walmart and when the register wouldn't read my card, the workers would blame me for it and say that it's my card that's declining instead of the register not reading the card. After a few tries , they would yell and constantly say that it was my card. Until, I went into a different register and my card works perfectly fine. Listen to your customers Walmart. read more

Wal-Mart is always a welcome sight when you are traveling. We were able to buy snorkel sets for the same price as a day's rental. Most of the times I rented a mask, it wasn't a good fit. This one fit perfectly and I love the colors. My son had an issue with the set that he bought. He was able to return it with no problem. This Wal-Mart is a supercenter. It had a grocery store as well. That was great, because on an island with high prices, we were happy to get a break on food costs. Thank you Walmart! read more
