This is reviewing a Walmart AS A WALMART and not trying to compare it to a Target or some other big box store. I gave it 2 stars because it has a Dunkin Donuts inside. For SEVERAL YEARS, it was THE ONLY DUNKIN DONUTS IN CENTRAL CALIFORNIA. I believe soon they will open one in Fresno State, but just having a Dunkin Donuts gets some points. Now as a Walmart, this has got to be one of the weakest walmarts Ive been to. It seems, feels, and looks rather small. That's really it and why the bad score. Especially for being THE ONLY WALMART in Madera, IT SHOULD be way bigger than it should. I think the city of Madera deserves a bigger Walmart. You want tax dollars to leave as people to to Fresno instead? Again, I'm just basing this review compared to other Walmarts. It was busy when I went which really magnified how smaller this location was to most other Walmarts around the nation. Always good deals! Large! Lots to look at and check out. Really nice garden area too! Music playing. Clean, safe and practiced. I ended up getting sugar free Reese's and Super coffee, cinnamon roll flavor. Self checkout after that and the worker at that area was very kind and greeted. Simple! Paid for the order and started leaving with another greet from a nice worker. Good service and store! Recommended! read more

This Walmart has terrible customer service. I needed something that was locked up in a case. Three times I asked employees to unlock the case. They kept saying someone else has the keys and will be right with me. How does this other employee with the keys know where I am? How do I know this person is really coming and hasn't been diverted somewhere else? They don't give me any number showing when I'm next and no employee waits with me. After waiting several minutes, I gave up and left. I'll be thrilled the day this place goes out of business. They would deserve to fail. read more

Where Do I begin. We all mostly been in a WalMart. We have all dealt with clean or messy stores. Some stores have associates who are friendly and approachable some don't. I feel Madera WalMart needs management to lead by example..It is sad to say lately the only man I see there is Coach Marcus. He is friendly and is always greeting his customers. I love going in WalMart just to see him because I know I will be greeted. It sad though because the one star for Madera WalMart is because Lynne at customer service is an individual who does not greet you, does not show a smile, and makes one feel ignorant when asked about a policy. She makes you feel like a crook when it was an employee there who forgot to give me my item in my bag. When asked to speak to management I was told she was front end management. So I am glad I found Marcus, not after I approach several young associates who as Lynn are just as bad. Everyone walks in there with no happiness no life to their souls. Management needs to conduct meetings and let them know this is not the old WalMart way. We don't point to an aisle we take. When approach several feet from a customer we smile. Cashier's and greeters are the last impression that will leave a mark on a customer when we check out so change that bad experience around if we had a bad one. If we had a good one we will come back and tell the cashier tell your management so and so was awesome on the sales floor. Sadly to say this did not happen. And what happen to dress code it's all down hill WalMart. I noticed the receipt said for manager TBD really get it together and hope you get a manager who cares about the store and it's customers. Here in Madera there aren't many places to shop. Walmart is the big store. Have shopped here quite a bit. Was inspired to post. This location is stepping up it's game! Men's department was clean and organized with plenty of sizes available for everyone! Holiday area rivals some store's in the Fresno area and with better pricing! Home department could use a lil bit of dusting off their coffee maker display's but otherwise well organized! Now for the self checkout area, generally not a fan as these take job's away, but, the clerk working this area, Claire, was really helpful and very kind. She's great! Went to purchase last minute items. Sadly, there were two customer agents that passed us. We asked for help in the bike area and another person called for assistance. A fourth agent passed while two were standing next to us and asked if we needed assistance. What we needed was air in the bike tire that we wanted to purchase. Lucia was the the only one to step us. *There was a man standing next to us employed by Walmart and he didn't offer to help put air in the tire. **Lucia didn't work in that department but asked the two employees that were standing looking at us "why can't you just use the pump right there" Lucia, without taking another minute says, "I'll do it, I'll help you". What a blessing she was to us... it changed our view of this store. I have to add that once the air was in the tire and Lucia was gone, the darn bike didn't roll, the back tire was stuck and we had to call for help, yet again, that never came. My husband had to pull another bike off the top rack because there was no employee in sight after requesting for help again. I hate to see how employees respond when it's busy. My girl friend bought two iTunes gift cards from Walmart for Christmas last year. It was some where close to one hundred dollars. When I went to redeem the cards, the amount was already used. atever you do, don't buy a car battery here! Well, I suspect it's more a case of don't buy a battery at Wallmart in general, but particularly not here! the short story: The battery I bought failed in a month and despite them admitting it was defective I was unable to get a replacement despite three trips! The long story: My battery failed suddenly last September within easy walking distance of this store, so I bought a 24F battery for what was to be fair, a pretty impressive price. It failed totally within a month, forcing me to buy a replacement (non Wallmart) battery since there wasn't one around where it failed. I also don't live near a store, so it was December until I went back to the store. Apparently they have a 90-day money-back warranty, but since it was 93 days before I got back they would only do a replacement, so after over an hour in line (because they only had one staffer out of three stations at the return desk) they said I had to wait until they charged and tested the battery before they would replace it and that could take hours. I don't live there so I have to stand around and wait, luckily the battery indicated bad after like 10 minutes (I did say it was bad after all) so they tell me to go get a replacement. Now, they could have easily checked stock during that time and saved me a trip to the other side of the store since they were out of those batteries! So, despite the fact I had to buy a battery because they sold me defective junk, made me wait around first from staffing, then because they didn't trust me, then a trip across the store and couldn't offer me a replacement, they still refused to refund my money because it was three days outside of policy! Not only that, they would not accept the battery and give me credit but I had to keep it and bring it back! That would be enough, but it gets worse! So I keep it, then go back in a month or so when they have a battery but want another $10 for the core charge and the manager who can make that right is out! Then I go back another couple months later (it's not on my way anyplace, etc.) and they make me wait while they re-test it (yup, still bad) but then they want to pro-rate the battery, despite the fact I still have the receipt showing that it failed the test in December! read more

Just got back from Walmart in Madera. The store greeter smiled and said "Welcome!" What she should have said was "WE HAVE NO BAGS". I got up to the counter with my $130.00 worth of small items for my class field trip and supplies. THAT'S when I found out about the lack of bags. The items were scanned and I put them back in my cart. With packs of pencils, pens, candy and small snacks, I headed to the parking lot. A panhandler stood 15 feet from my car and stared as I unloaded my items for a full 10 minutes and tried to place them carefully on the seat for the trip home. Traffic was kind of heavy, so I did a lot of braking. Each time, my items flew off the seat or rolled onto the floor, where they collected dirt. As I got home and repacked my stuff into bags I had on hand, I was swearing to myself. I began to think "I saw lots of empty boxes in the isles. Those could have been offered, in the very least." I've read everyone's reviews and they're all pretty much the same and I agree with them. The employees are rude and don't care, everything is cheap, and it's overall typical Walmart. My personal problem with this Walmart is the parking lot. It is always filthy and never gets cleaned by anyone. What's sad is that when I go there it's always early in the morning, so nobody cleaned the parking lot the day before. I see everything from empty fast food bags to baby diapers. And leaving baby diapers out in the middle of the parking lot is just unsanitary and gross. What's wrong with you people? read more

I went to the senior early morning shopping time this past Tuesday. I wanted mulch and asked how I could get help. Employee Bert stopped what he was doing, went to get a cart, loaded 5 bags for me. He then followed me through the check out while I paid. He then followed me out of the store and unloaded the mulch with the groceries in my car. Dirty unorganized it's Walmart what do you expect check out is slow bathroom are usually a mess

When shopping for food items, I prefer new/sanitary bags. When a store repeatedly has zero bags, fails to let customers know upon entering, then basically wastes hours of my valueable time shopping for hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise with nothing to put my purchases in unless I add full price garbage bags to my bill... Leaving multiple heaping carts full at the checkouts to take my business elsewhere (now permanently) doesn't matter to them either. Worst Walmart management in the valley. The pharmacy is in town best in town! They actually answer their phone and the staff is very helpful. The store itself is sad compared to the Super Walmarts I've been to in Fresno. This walmart is by far the worse walmart i have ever been too. The cashiers are extremely rude and have no respect. To be more specific, the rude cashiers that I have ONLY came across were the old white women. They genuinely think they are superior to everyone who is not white. As soon as I take out my EBT card, their whole persona changes and they become ever more rude then they already are. I have seen them treat customers in front me who are WHITE CAUCASION with extreme respect but once it is my turn their whole attitude changes. The pharmacy is horrible! One "lady" there became irritated at the questions she couldn't answer so she hung up on us. When we drove 30 miles to get some answers she refused to talk to us!! The medication we were asking about is one my husband NEEDED and she just refused to answer our questions so she finally told us to ask another lady. We finally ended up paying cash for the medicine.
