I remember going to this store with my grandparents the first week it opened! While I'm a fan of so many things conveniently being in one place, this location can get rather junky and hard to navigate. I've also had to cancel several grocery pickup orders because they kept getting delayed or had a lot of missing items. The grocery side tends to give me the most issues, with products frequently being out of stock other than damaged. I'm sure this location gets LOTS of traffic though. It's not my fav Walmart to stop by, but it'll get the job done in a pinch. read more

For some reason this Walmart Supercenter seemed larger than others. Kind of crazy, because all of them are very large. This one happens to be located in a shopping complex that includes a Sam's Club as well. Now, right out of the gate, as other reviews have mentioned, parking and traffic are kind of a nightmare. Really only one way in, that I could see, and there is a lot of traffic funneled through a small area. I can only imagine how bad this must get at going home from work time and weekends. The store itself isn't too bad. It has the typical Walmart selection that you'll find anywhere else. Clearance isles are kind of a mess, but that is typical really at most Walmarts. I guess the main down grade for rating, in addition to traffic/parking, is that it just doesn't have an overly clean feel about it, kind of musty. I didn't have any interactions with employees because I ended up not purchasing anything, but while I was in the store, there was no attempt made by them to greet, see if I needed anything, so I can't really comment on employee interactions. I'm not typically in this area, so not a lot of reason to go to this location. If I was over here and needed something I'd probably opt for Target a couple miles away. read more

I do not like Walmart. I have made that very clear in the past. But even though Walmart as a whole can not max past 3 stars, you can still have even worse experiences. This is a location that is not good. Traffic patterns are bad, parking is bad, staff is not friendly and the store typically feels a little dirty. Even though Lakeshore is the first area I lived in when I moved to Birmingham, I don't always like coming over this way. I rarely come to this location anymore, and I'm glad I don't have to. They may have changed the process, but pick-up was not very clear the one time I went. I even remember the person bringing it out was not friendly at all. I would prefer doing delivery and if I do pick-up, I would choose some other locations. Can't beat their vast inventory and price. But again, if I don't have to go, I won't. read more

I would recommend NOT going to this Wal-Mart location. This is not my usual Wal-Mart store so I do not go often, but every time I shop here I am approached by loiters in the parking lot who make comments to me as I walk by or they ask for money. I do not feel safe at this location and I will not go back. I think the store should monitor their parking lot, because it is needed in this area. The store should provide a safe environment for shoppers and they should feel safe while they are there. read more

Poor customer service at this store. Had Walmart plus In Home delivery scheduled to come to my home Friday, December 6, between 9 am and 1 pm. Checked status at 11 and saw was " On the Way", arrival estimated 11:33 a.m. tracked progress, or, rather, lack of Progress, of Tracking Map. At 11:25, checked tracking...ETA now 11:52. Kept checking status, and ETA continued to be further out.​ finally, around 2:15 p.m., get a screen on my Walmart app asking if I'm ready to pick up my groceries at the store. I go to Walmart Customer Service Chat and request a call to see what happened. Got a call a minute later, gave the order number and ask what happened. Rep went away for a couple of minutes, came back and said driver had had some kind of personal emergency, so the store changed the order to Pickup at the store. I told rep that I don't have a car to do the Pickup. I told her the order should be cancelled and my payment refunded s9 I could place an order with Kroger Delivery for the next day. She said the ordered items had already been picked and the order could not be cancelled. I said I have to pay even though the fault was with the store, and she asked if she could get another rep in the Escalation Dept on the line. I said yes, and a minute later, I'm talking to that rep. She agreed that I wad due a cancellation and refund, but that she would have to get the Store, on Lakeshore Drive, to process it, since it is not in the normal course of business. So...here I am, 20 hours after the "help" conversation, and the charges are listed as Pending on my bank account transaction register online. I'll call the bank Monday to see if they can be reversed. I was shopping with my kids, and we were done shopping. We got out and were putting the waters in the car. They were dripping, and some were drunk out of and crushed. We went back in, and they said they couldn't return or exchange them. The manager had a very condescending tone and was genuinely quite unpleasant. We asked for the manager's number, and he finally exchanged them, saying he would only do it this one time. The service afterward and during was very unpleasant. I will definitely not be going back. Remodeled out the outside (with the six pointed sunburst) but still rather dingy on the inside, this is a slightly older style Supercenter Wal-Mart. They have all the usual departments, including a full grocery section. As well, toys, personal care, clothing, electronics, home goods and tire & lube. The floors were dingy, the shelves were not completely stocked (though there were at least a dozen associates restocking here and there) and the shopping cart I grabbed had (as usual) one flat wheel. Even though I only popped in for two items, I like pushing a cart anyway. At 3 in the afternoon, just before the post-school moms start showing up, the line for registers was long and slow. My cashier was not the brightest bulb and seemed to move extra slow. There are "good" Wal-Marts out there. This isn't one of them. read more

You also will be searching for a grocery cart for an hour because the workers won't get the carts from the parking lot. Terrible customer service. IF I COULD GIVE A NO STAR RATING I WOULD. This Walmart has the WORST customer service out of any Walmart I have ever been to. Want a delivery? Think again! They won't send it for 2-3 days and then act like that's *your* fault. Try to come pick up what was a delivery? They won't let you. Want a pick up? Hope you don't mind waiting over an hour just for them to bring it out! Try to get help with getting your pick up brought out? Here's how the employees respond: "You might have been waiting for an hour, but we don't work like this where you can just come ask us to bring out your order. We have a lot of orders and we'll bring it out when we bring it out". Being legitimately busy is one thing. The problem here is that they have 4 people bringing out only 1 order between all 4 of them every 25-30 minutes. So if you have a few people ahead of you be prepared to wait for hours. Need to call the store? Nobody will answer! Try to get a refund because it's taking so long? It'll take a week to be processed, so you're screwed if you're on a tight budget. My bar has always been set extremely low for Walmart, but this place is the worst of them. read more

This Walmart makes me sad. Going to Walmart with my mom was always so much fun when I was little, so I always look forward to shopping in different locations. However, this location is tragic. The service is terrible. Seriously, terrible. We do delivery/pickup service and this Walmart...they always take at least an hour to bring the groceries. At that point the money isn't worth it. It's also severely understaffed and the only staff is rude. We asked where fishing poles were and this one staff member walked by said "I don't know" and left. I have extreme reservations about this location, but I needed to purchase supplies (with a student) and this was the closest location to UAB. We arrived one weekday morning around 9AM to pick out items. We made it through the store in a fair amount of time, but when we got to checkout there was only 1 (ONE!!!) lane open with several customers. When it was finally our turn, I informed the cashier that we were tax exempt and showed her the form from the university. She was unable to help me and told me I needed to go to customer service to get a card.... I walked over there and there was a line with 5 people ahead of me.... at 9:30AM on a Wednesday! When I finally made it to the front, it took approx. 10 mins for them to give me a tax-exempt card... where I had to get back in the one check-out line and wait again for my items to be scanned. I will avoid this place if at all possible in the future. read more

On or about March 8, I was looking for a shirt in the mens dept when I turned around and a young man was standing directly behind me about 18 inches away! I said excuse me and walked away. A few minutes later my wife and I were looking for another shirt when the same guy did the same thing! He kept following use and watching us! 3 times I caught him watching us and following us! The jerk was walmart security and I guess he was suspicious of us. All I had in my buggy was my jacket and my cane. Yes, I'm disabled! I guess handicap citizens are easier to harass and accuse! They never answer the phones. And take the time to hang up on customers instead of answering the call. They constantly leave items off when you shop online with them. I was supposed to receive a refund from a botched online on the 16th of this month. I still haven't received that refund. On top of the fact that I noticed some of my items were missing. The photo proof of the delivery driver showed. At the top of the photo; was some of my missing items. I ordered a Chromecast online Sunday. At first the app said that I would receive it on Tuesday. Three hours later; I received a e-mail saying that it's been delayed. And that delayed status has been sitting there every since. Plus, now they're trying to charge me extra monies to ship my Chromecast to me. The order said that shipping and handling was FREE on this order. The money for this order was already taken from my card. Now, there's an additional $42 and some change pending on card from Walmart. On top of them asking me to pay for shipping and handling now. Their online and customer service is so horrible. My experiences have not been good at all. read more

Terrible location. The layout of the parking lot is horrendous, just like the attitude of nearly every employee in the store. Don't bother asking anyone for help...you won't get it. I will go here every now and then just for convenience sake, but I definitely don't go here at night. There's a reason they have security driving around at all hours. The aisles are usually crowded with pallets of products and they need a lot more cashiers for the number of people that are in this store on a daily basis. You will have to wait in a line to check out...it's a fact. If you don't mind buying in bulk, I suggest going across the street to Restaurant Depot. read more

Walk into this Walmart on this Sunday with my immigrant friend and the immigrant gentleman he plans to buy a car from. My friend has an thick accent and the gentleman speaks limited English. The Honduran guy brings his relatives to translate and I am there to clarify what my African friend is saying. They want to buy money orders to exchange for the sale. Gentleman wants to cash the money orders thereafter. Simple transaction for a MoneyCenter, right? First, the sweet gentleman at the register explains that the money order machine isn't working. No problem. I ask, can we do a wire instead? He says yes. Even though moneyGram and Walmart2Walmart allows you to transfer money "from and to any Walmart" and even though a "passport" is considered valid ID and even though we were there well before the center closes, stayed in line for a very long time, and I explained in great detail BEFORE the transaction started what we were doing (buying/selling a used car), why we were doing it (bank closed on Sunday), amount of transaction (not even that much money) and what types of ID everyone had, this female manager goes to one of the Honduran girls and asks, "what are y'all doing?" She then runs to the register and taps on this guy's screen, cancelled the transaction and says, "see, they're even using passports (the guy was scanning my friend's state-issued drivers license), we're not doing this!" I ask her why, and she says, "because this looks suspicious." I ask her how she came to that conclusion, particularly since we had explained EVERYTHING to the guy at the register (she was nowhere around) and he didn't think it was suspicious for people to be wiring money to each other at a place that says it does MONEY EXCHANGES!!! She said, "I saw you go ask that girl something and I asked her what was going on and she said she didn't know (not what she said)." Mind you, I am going to the girl because we are translating!!! The girl, in fact, said, "They are getting money for us (and repeated that in my presence)." Now I say to this manager , if the problem is that wiring money to each other in the same store looks suspicious, then sell us the money orders. She says their machine is down, which, of course, is my point. YOUR MACHINE IS DOWN but now the only alternative you have to offer looks suspicious??? I am sorry, but I strongly believe the only thing she felt was suspicious was two immigrants transacting business at that price point. I told her so and expressed how offended I am at the assumption of hers. Never mind that they had the money, ID, even a bill of sale. Not sure what there is to gain criminally by wiring money to each other using your ID in front of witnesses and cameras because it's not Walmart's money that they were exchanging. Never mind Walmart's own rules don't seem to validate her actions. Have some respect!!! I am sick of this discrimination. We have to do better. read more

I recently had one of the worst customer service experiences in the history of my customer service experiences when I visited this Walmart. On the way out of town for a camping trip, we found the exact tent we needed at Walmart.com. The price was very reasonable and it said that the Lakeshore location had it in stock. Upon arrival, I immediately found the tent with the same price on the shelf that I'd seen online. We were good to go, right? Not even close. While checking out, the tent rang up incorrectly. It wasn't even close. In fact, it was almost 50% over the price on the shelf and online. The young lady at the register was perturbed by me questioning the clearly incorrect price. I never want to complain or hold up a line, so it was a bit embarrassing. After telling us over and over that there was nothing she could do about it, she finally called over the manager. The manager said that the price was different because of the color. We showed her the ad that clearly stated the different colors that it was available in. Even though we had the ad with us and the shelf had the correct price on it with the matching item number, she refused to sell it to us at the correct price. We really wanted the tent and really wanted to give Walmart our money. They just weren't going to have it. read more

I visited the walmart off Lakeshore in Birmingham, AL. For once I was pleased to see that there was more than two lanes open for checkout. The prices on Strawberries were pretty high, and the one item I came to get (flip flops- size 11 for men) was very scarce. There was only one size 11 and I grabbed them before someone else did. With those two issues I must agree to disagree that WalMart is still the place to be. read more

The incompetence of the staff here is simply astounding. The people who are there to help customers find things just automatically answer "uh, we don't carry that" for items that I KNOW they have. By saying I know I mean that another member of my family usually does the grocery shopping at Walmart and buys these items on a weekly basis. Examples of this recently were baking paper (wax paper), cardstock paper, etc. The automatic answer of "we do not carry it" because you don't want to do anything but text on your phone during work is NOT acceptable. I can find the things myself, I was just hoping you'd save me about 10 minutes on trying to find each item. Isn't that your job? The return process is also so bad. So many mistakes, I have to repeat what I want about 10 times for something to get through to them. This place is just an abomination. If you need anything just go to the Walmart on John Hopkins parkway in Hoover. Further of a drive from downtown, but much less stressful overall and has much more competent employees. read more

Always AD match at Walmart. Everything was nice and clean exept the mens bathroom, like most other Walmart stores. This is why on all but one store (Bolivar MO) they recieve a four instead of five. So me and my niece went into Walmart looking for some craft items and cat food and per usual the greeter was at the door but not pleasant as expected from this location. I found some of my items and proceed to ask an associate where the scrap book isle is located and she seem to be as lost as I was and So I wasn't able to retrieve those items and so we pick up the other items and proceeded to checkout and to my surprise there was more that two resisters open so we had a quick and pleasant checkout. I gave three stars because the associate was not knowledgeable but thumbs ups for me not having to stand in line forever. read more

This is the worst I have ever seen it there. Because I was hunting for a open line I had time to go accross and count 114 people with buggies waiting for 3 human checkout lines. No one could socially distance because the lines went all the way through their clothing sections past their dressing rooms. After I had waited in line more than 1 hour and 15 minutes. They shut the line down after me. So the elderly diabetic lady behind me was told to go get in another line (there were only 2 other lines with 100+ people). I felt so bad for her. She daughter started screaming and got a member of management. Today was an example of bad management. The cashier was told to shut down her register becuase she was already an hour past her scheduled lunch time. It wasn't hurt fault. They might have given raises to $15 an hour for cashier but they fired all the cashiers and replaced them with computers and don't open many human cashier lines anymore. Walmart is not about customer service anymore, they don't care. read more

When I first moved to Birmingham in 2006, I use to use this Wal Mart all the time. Since then, more locations have opened, and the variety and service at other stores have made me choose other locations. Don't get me wrong, this is a great location, and have a Sam's right next to it is a huge plus. Never had any problems here, but the clientele isn't the same as in other locations. read more

I'm really not a fan of this walmart. It's very close to where I live, yet I find myself willing to drive further and pay more at fresh market or target just to avoid going here. It always seems dirty and makes me feel grimy just from walking around in there. Their produce and meat selections are always slim pickings, and they only ever have 2 or 3 registers open so you have to wait in line forever. It's just overall never a positive experience for me. read more
