Well, I need new glasses, and I've been checking out different vision centers. Today, I visited this Walmart vision center. It's in the small side with a limited inventory of frames. I did find two frames that are in contention for my new glasses. The opticians here are very nice and quite helpful. One of them, Arjohn, was very patient answering questions about frame and lens options, as well as providing costs for various upgrades such as transition lens. Overall, prices are similar to or slightly less than other vision centers I've visited so far. read more

So to be fair this review is more like a 2.5 /5 but I am rounding down in this case instead of up. My vision hasn't changed in more than 15 years which I am thankful for. I've had my current glasses for around 3 years which I got at a Walmart back in our home state. After a new vision exam which verified I still had the same prescription I decided to head to Walmart again since I wanted to save a little money but I wanted to make sure it was done right instead of ordering online. The lady who helped me order my glasses was polite and told me it would take about a week or so. I think it was 5 days later they called me and told me they were ready. Super excited I drove out there (In traffic...) only to find out apparently it's common practice these days to polish lenses except for some (or google says a lot) of people it causes prisms due to reflection of light into your eyes. LUCKY ME. The lady told me they would sent it back to the factory and have them give me new lenses that weren't polished and it would take about 2 weeks. I was understanding since we had no way to know this would happen. 2 days later they call me and tell me my glasses were ready. I was like "are you sure? Because I was just there and I was told they were sending them back to the factory...". The lady assures me they "fixed them" and it was ready. So, against my better judgement since I don't like to drive in the dark, I went back to this Walmart again. It's important to note folks I don't live that close to this place so at this point it's becoming taxing to drive here, plus I have a great dislike of Walmart in general. I put the glasses on and no surprise they still cause prisms. I looked at the side of the lenses and it literally looks like someone too sand paper too it and rubbed it all to heck. Highly annoyed at this point I asked them to be sent back to the factory AND REPLACED. The lady informed me they would not do that because they could "have their person work on it some more". I was like fine whatever. Pissed off I walked around the store. My friend convinced me to go back and talk to this lady. For the amount of money I paid for these glasses, (one of the most expensive frames, Nikon lenses, all the coatings, and active transitions), I think it's understandable to get what I want. I told the lady this and she told me she understood and they weren't even sure if they could have Nikon make the lenses without polishing them so she'd have to talk to the manager in the morning and EITHER WAY she'd call me tomorrow (Saturday) and let me know. Saturday came and went without a phone call. Tuesday morning I called and the lady I got on the phone was barely understandable but told me they sent them back that morning and it would take 2 weeks. Okay... April 11th, I get a call they are in. I asked "are you sure they are new lenses? Are you sure they aren't polished?" annoyed she tells me they are correct, so I stop what I'm doing and go back out there. Now to their credit these lenses weren't polished. HOWEVER after 10 minutes with this lady trying to adjust these glasses to my head and her and I both becoming frustrated I give up with "good enough" and leave with my glasses. She keeps telling me I can always come back and adjust them and I was like lady... I've already been here 4 times, I don't want to come back again! So to sum it up these glasses are crazy heavy compared to my current pair which I can only assume is due to the lenses and not the frame since the tester pair in the store was fine. Also it hurt my head and my ears. The active transitions she sold me on (I currently have the older type of transitions that don't fade in a car) didn't actually fade while I was in my car and to her credit they did get darker than what I currently have BUT I couldn't see my phone when outside. Also there is a black dot on each lens, a circle, and NPD on it. Supposedly you shouldn't be able to see this, but I could, and it drove me nuts, and where it had writing it doesn't have your prescription so it looked like a blurry spot. I went back and returned the glasses. The process of returning them was quick and easy and they tried to talk me into ordering new glasses or replacing the lenses with other ones but told me "they all have writing on them, and the Nikons are just as heavy as the cheaper lenses"... no... no they aren't and no not all lenses have letters printed on them. I've gotten lenses for my whole family at Walmart for years and never experienced that. Well whatever. Crap happens, I get it but it was a pain. I appreciated the ease of returning them (part of the reason I went here in the first place) but now I'm still without glasses. Also I felt like the lenses were too strong because it caused eye strain, hard to explain. I broke down and ordered a cheap pair from Zenni so heres to hoping they actually work! read more

I witnessed a terribly insensitive incident today while waiting to get my eye exam. An elderly man came in, in a panic with a swollen red eye clearly needing a doctor. He asked the front desk if they took medi-cal and she robotically answered no, we take molina coverage and seeing that she could care less and was very unhelpful he stormed out. The front desk was later my optician technician and I asked her, why didn't you give him phone numbers to call that helps low income clients? She replied that she couldn't because he walked out. If she saw the situation on replay I hope that she would be able to see that he walked out BECAUSE she was apathetic and unhelpful, not that she couldn't help him because he walked out too fast. She sat there barely looking up from her computer with no compassion to his situation. She couldn't even own up to the fact that she made a mistake, she made it HIS fault. When I was with Dr. Yana I complained how sad it made me that the front desk could be so lazy and unhelpful and she defensively said, "Well I can't work for free!" No kidding.. But if you are going to work in the health care field you have to have the sensitivity to see that that man gets the resources he needs to find someone to help him. You are the doctor, the one with education and referrals. This man was in distress and in pain. If he can't pay to see you, can't you provide him with a direction to go, even if it is the ER? read more

The customer service at the Poway Walmart Optical is not very good; I recommend going elsewhere. I have purchased glasses from Walmart for the last five years, though never from this store. I have popped in twice for glasses adjustment. The first thing the Customer Service Representative asks is if I purchased the glasses from them. Each time I explain that I bought them at Walmart, just not their store. They then adjust my glasses for me, but only after a scowel and informing me that they won't be held responsible if they damage the glasses. The first time I had my glasses adjusted here, the Customer Service Rep was rude, but competant. Sherry adjusted my glasses recently. She took about 30 seconds to adjust them. I thought this odd because good Opticians will sit you down and check the glasses position on your face. I put on the glasses and immediately knew they weren't adjusted properly. I waited for her to finish with a customer and advised her that they weren't completely adjusted. After failing to adjust them completely for the second time, she informed me that they didn't have the right tools and recommended that I "take them to where I bought them", 200 miles away. I purchased my last pair of glasses at a corporate Walmart store because I knew I would be moving. All corporate Walmart Opticians are supposed to honor Walmart warrenties and policies. Having worn glasses for 30 years, I understand the importance of customer service. This store doesn't have it. I wouldn't recommend this optical store to anyone. read more

Fast and easy eye exam... Setup the appointment in the morning, got the exam the same day. Cost = $89 for the exam. giving me contacts and glasses prescriptions. Only took 30 minutes long and everybody was super friendly. Located inside the Walmart, so it's convenient if you're shopping there afterwards. Not 5 stars, since I was expecting to pay about $50. Went there with my daughter because she broke her frame and an associate name Sherry was the one who helped us. She is very professional and patient with us because we were undecisive on which frame to purchase. Every one was friendly and I noticed that customers were being greeted as soon as they came up to the line. Management must have replaced a lot of the associates from past negative feedback. This new staff is excellent in providing great quality customer service. I highly recommend going here because my time was not wasted and I came out with a good price on my frame. read more

If I could give negative stars I would! *review for eye exam office only* Visit 1-The receptionist, named debbie I believe, has the worst attitude I've experienced in customer service. I went in for an eye emergency. I tried calling but noone (debbie) bothered answering so I just went in as it is so close to my house.I was not greeted, and worse yet I was made to feel like an annoyance. After waiting minutes to be acknowledged I finally interrupted her staring at a computer screen. I explained my situation, asked if I could be seen and she told me yes and told me the doctor did not have any patients currently. Then she went in the back for about 10 minutes. She finally came back and gave me paperwork to fill out(couldn't I have been doing this while u were in back?)...upon completion of paperwork she called my name. At 7 months pregnant i struggle to get up, as soon as I do she says "oh not yet, she is first" pointing to a women who had just walked in. She took this person straight back. Did u really just make me get up for no reason?!? At this point I am done with this receptionist. I say "fine whatever" and she goes on to make some bs excuse. I ignore her, yet she continues to talk back to me. I am still in disbelief at how confrontational she was! Her JOB is CUSTOMER Service, yet she treats the customers horribly. After about 30 more minutes of waiting, the doctor finally comes to get me. She was ok. All in all I was charged $58 for the doctor to find and remove the contact from my eye. The doctor told me that since I was charged for an exam that she would honor that at a later date when my eye was not irritated. Ok cool, atleast I'm getting something for my money. So I go back today... Visit 2- again I try calling to make an appointment but no-one answers so I go in. Same receptionist debbie working. I'm not happy to see her again but I figure everyone has bad days so I give her another shot and am nice to her. She immediately starts in with the eye rolls, attitude and argumentative attitude. It took all of my will power to not call her out on her horrible attitude. I ask her if it is possible to transfer the eye exam that I have already paid for and not yet recieved to my daughter who needs new glasses more than I do. She laughs in my face and tells me that would be fraud! Uhh excuse me? How the he'll is that fraud? I paid for an eye exam, it has not yet begun...i want the eye exam for my child. Any reputable business would have no issue with this request...but of course debbie cannot even fathom the few seconds of extra work it would be for her. Heaven forbid she do something nice for someone. She then goes to the back and begins talking with the doctor...all I hear is whispering and laughing and i can imagine that they are making jokes at my expense. *Your office is not that big and ur raspy party voice is really loud-even when u whisper* She goes on to say that since I've already had the "medical part" done that she can't switch it to someone else. I remind her that NOTHING has been done yet! She ignores me, but whatever I'll take the eye exam if this gets me away from this rude receptionist. A few minutes later she calls me back for the first portion of the exam...and guess what?!? To my dismay she is ALSO the tech who administered the "medical part" of the exam. (Btw that sounds like professional terminology right? Her words not mine!) During the WORST eye exam of my life she continues with the bitchy attitude. She does not explain to me what she is doing, she leaves me alone in this room multiple times during tests (shouldn't she be administering and observing these tests to make sure they are performed correctly?) And most frustrating of all she gives no warning as to when and what machines do what for example the one that blows pressurized air into your eye. Thanks for the heads up on that!!! NOT!!! So completely unprofessional! I'm glad my daughter didn't get the exam because I do not trust this lady at all!!! I do not trust the results from the parts of the test she 'administered' and I WANT MY MONEY BACK! I have NEVER been so disgusted and outraged by someone's attitude in my life! Let alone someone working in a medical field/customer service. This lady needs to spend less time being rude, mean and hateful and more time being compassionate and atleast pretending to care. Better yet hope she gets fired. Ugh I will be continuing to peruse this grievance. Don't go here, not at all worth the hassle! read more

Susan thank you thank you!!! My sons glasses were accidentally broken by one of his friends. I came in to see if they still had the frame. Sadly they didn't....Later that night I recieved a call from Susan who had been in the back working on another customers glasses when she saw the frame I had been asking about earlier. She not only remembered the frames but she remembered who we were and took the time to call me!!! Thank you so very much Susan!!! My son is so happy you fixed his favorite glasses!!! Previously I've had some good experiences at this place, but last night not so much. I had already picked out my frames and had to drop my new script off to order glasses. My wife confirmed closure time (6pm). Got there a few minutes early but they were closed already...so no service and therefore the 1 star (only because you can't give a 0). This business doesn't care about your valuable time...I wasted 45 minutes going there and home with nothing to show for it. Take a look at businesses that are successful. They don't treat their customers this way. And I don't imagine Walmart wants to be associated with this kind of "service"... read more

Dr. Yana Repkin is a complete IDIOT. Bluntly put. I do not have insurance, therefore Walmart was a cheap solution to getting my prescription renewed. The prescription she prescribed me was COMPLETELY OFF. And I had to come back again a week or so later WHICH IS WASTING MY TIME having to get my prescription completely redone by the other optometrist (I'm sorry, I forgot his name - older male Caucasian). It should have been done RIGHT the first time around. She was so off that even the other doctor was surprised at the original prescription Dr. Repkin had prescribed. On top of that, I ran into another customer who was trying on his newly ordered glasses with the new prescription prescribed by Dr. Repkin .. and guess what .. HE COULD NOT SEE CLEARLY WITH HIS NEWLY PRESCRIBED PRESCRIPTION GLASSES! Surprise surprise, right? He said that his new glasses did absolutely nothing to help his vision. Another customer suffering from wasting their time getting a prescription done by Dr. Repkin. Dr. Repkin is a sad excuse for an optometrist. She wasted my time because I had to get my prescription REDONE, which also caused me to delay me ordering new contacts/glasses. This location seriously needs to reevaluate the optometrists leasing out their space. I am obviously NOT the only customer who wasted their time at this location. Such a disgrace. Dr. Repkin is nice and friendly. I walked in without an appointment and there were two patients before me, but everything was quick and easy, total of 30 mins. The price is comparable to Poway Costco so I would say it's a good deal in the area. I only had the eye exam for glasses but I was told that if I come back within 3 months, I only need to pay the difference to get the contact lens exam, which would be around $30. FYI, the doctor's office and the vision store run independently. read more

Ugh ANNOYED.. I have had nothing but horrible experiences here. Last year I called several times to get an eye exam. No answer and never heard from them after leaving voicemails, so I decided to walk in there and the lady at the front desk was RUDE... assuming from the comments below it was the same Debbie lady. It has been a year and I need a new rx for CONTACTS. I called earlier this week. The girl on the phone was super nice.. I told her I currently wear glasses but wanted to get an exam for CONTACTS. She asked what insurances I had. I told her I have two: spectera and tri-care. She asks info for the tricare and not spectera (assumed they didn't take spectera) I asked if she wanted spectera, she said no it's fine, you're covered with tricare so I don't need the other one but if I do I'll call you back. She sets me up for an appt. Fast forward to the appt. I take off work early to make my appt. I get there and the waiting room is PACKED. A girl greets me and said they're running behind. I start to fill out paperwork and the girl (who I talked to on the phone) asked if I had ins. I told her I had dual coverage. Spectera and Tricare. She said oh that's right so you'll be covered for glasses but not contacts........................ you'll have to pay $59. I said why didn't you tell me that on the phone? I told you I needed an appt for contacts. I could have called around or called my insurance company to find out who does take these insurances. She said well I can cancel your appt. I said well what about my spectera. You never got that info from me. she said yeah that's going to be $59 too for the exam.. WTF!!! I'm so annoyed. You couldn't have told me that OVER THE PHONE?! Waste. Of. Time. Don't go here. They're rude and know NOTHING. read more

Let's start with the unfriendly employees who seem to think smiling is a crime. I don't know about you but they made me feel like they're the boss of me. Usually when I've already clearly expressed what I want I'd like the person helping me to just say "Ok, that's fine" or "Good" or whatever's the polite thing to say, but here I had to give extra effort to repeat what I've already said because they, in some way, assume an unfriendly and contradictory tone. read more

I usually have my eye exam done at Costco, but after finding out they were booked almost a month in advance, I made the mistake of walking in to Dr. Repkin's office in March. After the overpriced exam was over, I was given a pair of contact lenses that blurred and strained my right eye, the reason being that "my astigmatism was worse and it would take a couple days for my eyes to get used to the new prescription." I took them out and put in my old contacts when I got home, and I saw just fine. Now being in the beginning of October, I finally got around to using my new prescription to buy 4 boxes of contacts and a pair of glasses from Costco for $400, only to find when I got them that my eyes did NOT in fact get used to them, my eyes were examined incorrectly, resulting in me being given an incorrect prescription, resulting in the glasses severely straining my right eye even MORE than the contacts did. When I called Dr. Repkin's office to notify them of the mistake on my prescription, I was told to come in the next day and they would recheck me, free of charge. I walked in this morning and sat in the examination chair, only to be told I had to pay an additional $30 for the "office visit fee", which I most CERTAINLY do not think I have to pay for since it was not my mistake to begin with. I ended up just getting up and walking out without a word. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this disgusting office, and I WILL be filing a complaint with the Board of Optometry, as well as suing these people if this problem is not resolved ASAP! I do not recommend for anyone to go to this hell hole, I guarantee your experience will not be satisfactory. If a zero star review was allowed to be given, I would have given it! read more
