Due to insurance issues, I had to make a few trips to this Vision Center before my glasses were ready and each time, I was greeted by the friendliest and most helpful staff members. Their customer service skills are excellent. They are knowledgeable, professional, attentive and seemed genuinely happy to help me chose my glasses, which I really appreciated. Too bad this company does not value it's staff or customers, since there was only one person. Here is how an optician loses future sales opportunities. I went in today to have eyeglasses adjusted while I was shopping. They immediately asked if I had bought them there. Went in there to get new glasses, insurance should of covered everything, but the Indian looking lady said I still needs to pay extra. I asked her to show me the detail billing, she reluctantly shown me. When I spotted all the extra charges, and ask her to remove all the optional coating charges that we don't need, she refused and quickly turn the screen around....and basically tells me to take it or leave it. I left, Went to Site for Sore Eyes instead, where the lady looked at the insurance and gladly didn't charge us for a dime extra. Went to get an eye exam for prescription glasses, the experience was great starting with the friendly receptionist that helped me with questions about insurance and filling out forms(I don't know her name but she spoke fluent Spanish). As for the eye exam, Dr.Connie Choi is very clear on the examination process and explains to me my exam result in simple terms. Overall, very pleasant experience and would definally recommand. By the way, make an appointment before you go to avoid long wait time, my examination appointment took less than 40 minutes which include the time I fill out the forms and asking questions. read more

I'd say that the Wal-Mart vision center is a pretty snazzy deal! Every time I'm in the small office, there is hardly anyone waiting. That means - short lines and less waiting! The doctors that have tested my eyes are efficient and clear in their comments during an eye check-up. They ask politely for questions, and they are open to explaining questions about the eye. Secondly, it's freaking wal-mart!! It's so cheap here, and you are getting the same check-up as going to an actual doctor's office! I've had both experiences, and I really think the efficiency of this place and no wait is super important. read more

Ok, I think this place is good. I hadn't had my eyes checked in forever, so I made an appt the same day I called in and it was a snap. I had to wait maybe 10 or so minutes, but the optician was friendly and communicative of the wait, maybe that's why I didn't mind. So, I went through the process and chose frames. They really helped, a lot. They were perfect, but since I never had worn glasses they were hot, sticky and messed up my makeup. Didn't care for them. I also wish I would have chose the lenses that shift into sunglasses. I want to protect my eyes and the skin around them, having a magnifying glass over both of them daily seems counter productive and who wants to carry sunglasses + glasses, I don't. So I am heading back for my check up and purchasing contacts! Woo hoo. I have only worn coloreds for fun, but I am excited to grab some fun colors to enhance my natural eye color and protect vision! While most of the employees working here are kind and committed I was more than upset with with something the optometrist said. While taking my family history she asked if anyone had had some sort of eye issues. I said that my Omi had had many laser eye surgeries but I had no idea what it was for. (Gist \/) Optometrist: Was this on your mom or dad's side? Me: Moms Optometrist: Ok what about your dad's side? Me: I have no idea and I try not to talk to him, so I wouldn't be able to find out Optometrist: Why don't you talk to your dad?? Me: I don't like him, he's not a good person Optometrist: Is that because of what your mom tells you? First of all, this had nothing to do with my eyes which she is paid to check- NOT my personal family business. Second, my mom didn't come because she was babysitting the grandkids but if she had've came the optometrist wouldn't have said a word. Seriously makes me so mad to think that someone, especially someone who is supposed to be professional, would say such a thing. I am upset and so is my mom. For the record I PERSONALY know my father, unlike the doctor who clearly felt this would help my vision. She also inferred I was lying because the "tests didn't match my complaints", but she gave me glasses anyway "because maybe they'll help". Just wow. read more

This is a very tiny place tucked inside a Walmart store so for years it never occurred to me to go get my eyes checked until I needed a new prescription. I visited the optometrist and she was wonderful! I was surprised at the level of service I received for the amount they charged. The tests they did on me is the same as if you went to an expensive optometrist in the mall. In addition, she automatically gives you a prescription and allows you the flexibility to go anywhere to buy your frames or contacts. However, my experience w/the expensive mall optometrists is that they want you to buy what you need in their office and of course, that's 3x more expensive than what you can get online or elsewhere. I would definitely go back to this office for my exam! However I'm getting my frames elsewhere because they didn't have the style I wanted. I even did grocery shopping afterwards. I was seen by I think his name was dr.cheung he was very fast and efficient with my eye exam, I did both basic and contacts exam. After my contacts exam I was also given 5 pairs of dailies which I thought was a nice plus since my insurance didn't cover contacts exams. But anyway I had a good experience I wouldn't hesitate to come here again, my appointment lasted probably no more than an hour and I was seen on time. read more

The manager called me back after two other people told me that I could not take the auttomaic cart out to the parking lot. I ama handicapp person. She told me that I can take the cart out to the paking lot as long as I have someone go out with me. I was very happy that someone thinks of handicapp people. worst customer service ever!!! I am sure this place has the rudest staff and receptionist in the world!!! The girl at the front desk looked pissed off right after we walked in and told us that we need to call our insurance company so she can file and she said she doesn't know how to talk to them to get the information to file for us. To make a long story short, we spent an hour on the phone with the insurance company and each time we handed the phone to her so she could get the information, she said they didnt understand her and they didn't give her the right information!! In the end she simply said they don't take bcbs and that I didn't understand that! She spoke so rudely and rolled her eyes every two seconds. Did she think it's our first time to see a doctor and deal with insurance? We had never been treated like this our whole life!!! if they simply told us in the beginning they don't take bcbs, we would not have wasted a whole afternoon dealing with a mad woman! she spoke with a thick accent and couldn't make the insurance people understand her. Amazing customer service, but the really should consider adding more cashiers.

This review is about the optical department and not the optometrists. The vision center in the Union Center Wal-Mart leaves a lot to be desired. The people running the optical department don't know what they are doing. They have very little training in dispensing glasses. They may have certificates stating they are qualified from the National dispensing board but they are clueless. I went to school for 2 years and got an AA degree in optical dispensing. They seem absolutely clueless as to how to adjust a frame. I went in there and picked a frame that I liked. It came back from the lab and the frame was crooked and they didn't seem to know what to do to fix it. The manager got impatient with me and raised her voice because I just wasn't going to pay $346.00 for glasses that were crooked. Even the other customers in the vision center saw what was going on. I cancelled the sale. Unfortunately, other customers who visit the vision center don't know that they don't know what they are doing. I will NEVER, EVER buy glasses from Wal-Mart vision again. I will either go back to Sears where I know the people know what they are doing or go to Four Eyes in Berkeley. read more
