There are some things simply too personal to discuss with the world. Events, experiences, opinions best kept to oneself or shared only with the closest and most trusted loved ones or attorneys. In the days leading up to yesterday I thought that this would be one of those things. I was wrong. My anticipation was grounded most fundamentally in how substantially the concept of mortality resonates in my reptilian ganglia. I am simultaneously very aware and at the same time pretending entirely to the contrary that my days on this blue ball are numbered. It is the latter that keeps me generally away from doctor's offices unless some rabbit gives me that look and off I go. In a short list, because you want me to be succinct: 1. For the virgins, the anticipatory build up is the hardest part. 2. The first sip of that nasty-tasting cleanser the evening before is the second hardest part. 3. The fifteen minutes in the taqueria getting a little something for your lovely driver when you haven't eaten in like a thousand hours is the third hardest part. Then it all gets easier. 1. Please disregard what the single star reviewers describe relative to the administrative experience. Simply, had they been paying attention in the period leading up to their procedure this aspect I am certain would have been different. 2. The folks here are friendly and (in my experience) incredibly efficient. From the front office to the procedure room everybody I encountered was respectful and kind and attentive and nice but they didn't tarry and you should be happy because who wants to drag this out anyway. 3. Music in the procedure room. Dazed and Confused was playing as they hooked up my anesthetic drip. I am not kidding. 4. 45 minutes later and we're all chatty and there's my insides on TV which is weird then poof off to the little room to have a glass of water then there's rabbit and it's ramen time. If you gotta get this done, and I suppose you gotta, I would say that these folks are a fine bunch to see you through. Read your paperwork before, fret but not too much because it's going to be ok, have a big bowl of noodles after and be grateful for your good fortune. You get to live another day. read more

Now a few hours after an endoscopy & colonoscopy, feeling good at home, nice experience at the Center. Very efficient & to the point, making sure you're comfortable & quick to get you through the process, which I liked. Got there at ten, was out by noon. There was quite a bit of communication & information before the session, which was appreciated. Emails about pre-op procedure, which is very important, & complicated. Phone calls to check in, make sure I had everything & was ready, were very helpful & reassuring. The day of the procedure, I arrived & the intake nurse got me set up, then was wheeled into the operating room, put to sleep & when I woke up, it was done. The worst part as usual (this is my 2nd colonoscopy) was the prep, the endless going to the bathroom. My 1st colonoscopy I was awake, and though it is less complicated in that you are not put to sleep, I didn't like it. This one was pretty painless & simple by comparison. I prefer being sedated. Would highly recommend this facility and staff. Dr. Takyar, my surgeon, was bright, communicated well and felt I was in good hands all the way. The group of four in the operating room worked well as a team. If I had to do another colonoscopy, it would be with this group! read more

I found the team here to be fantastic! They are patient-centric and very clear about what to expect. They called ahead of the procedure (both my nurse and anesthesiologist), making sure I had all my questions and concerns answered. We have been on a mystery medical expedition for the past 9 months. My husband is diabetic and suddenly couldn't eat. If he did eat it, one chicken nugget felt like he ate an entire 18 pack of chicken nuggets. He was in major pain and went from almost 200 lbs to 168 lbs. Hes also 6ft 6in. It was not normal and we needed answers. His endocrinologist referred him to get an endoscopy. Meaning, camera down the throat to look at his stomach and take samples. We had to meet with the Dr. first then the appointment for the endoscopy was made. I had to drop him off early and his appointment was for about 2 hours. If you have this particular procedure you're not allowed to drive yourself home. I must also let you know that this is the 2nd time hes had this particular procedure. He had it done when he had a stroke 10 years ago. You can also look at your heart by endoscopy too. Anyway, once his procedure was done they called me on my phone and I came back to pick him up. I had to wait in the waiting room for awhile. Then they let me in back where he was. He was so happy with the treatment he had. He was comparing his last treatment. They were treated him wonderfully. He said that all of the nurses were personable and you were able to talk to them like regular people. He was so impressed with all of the medical staff here. Unfortunately we didn't get any answers. His stomach was in impeccable condition. At least the staff made what could have been a really unpleasant experience worth it and bearable. For what its worth anyway. read more

Echoing another reviewer, this place is only interested in your money. If you don't cancel a procedure TWO WEEKS ahead of time they charge you $200. However, they don't tell you what your out of pocket will be until two days before the procedure. And they don't care that you didn't know the cost. They just wave the cancellation agreement in your face and demand the $200. If this is how the front office behaves I don't ever want to find out how good (or bad) the doctors are. I'll be happy to update this review when they send me a cease and desist order. read more

I had my first upper endoscopy at this facility. The nursing staff in the pre-op room were pretty nice and gave me lot of reassurance. Which was really comforting. The doctor played music to help me relax and the nursing staff in the pre-op room also gave me a pillow to hold during the procedure to help bring comfort. The doctor was also kind enough to hold my hand before I fell asleep (I have a lot of anxiety in general). I really appreciated this gesture as it helped me calm down. After I woke up I un-intentionally rambled a little bit to the staff (thanking them profusely- sorry guys). I was not very aware of how much I was talking at the time because I was still groggy. It seemed like this really annoyed them though. I was surprised by how much their dispositions changed. At least they were nice enough to respond back a little. All in all it was an okay experience and most importantly, medically they knew what they were doing. read more

I recently had an upper GI endoscopy with Dr. Hosseini and the staff at the center, and was pleased with the entire experience. We liked the free parking and the easily-located facility. The lobby was pleasant as was the front desk staff. Behind the door, everyone was professional, compassionate, and took the time to explain what was going on -- that includes the nurses and medical support team, my anesthesiologist (Dr. Melissa Wheeler), and Dr. Hosseini himself. The prep area and the operating room were friendly and comfortable. Everything about the procedure went exactly as explained in advance, and without any pain or apprehension. The anesthesia was just as advertised and put me out completely without too much grogginess afterwards. Music is a huge part of my life and I loved that there was good music in the operating theater, for the short time I was conscious in there. It was a nice touch -- thanks! read more

Professional staff...professional relief! Every aspect of my colonoscopy today was professional and superb! The procedure was scheduled when it was convenient for me, my prep instructions were adjusted for that schedule, all my questions were answered during the preliminary telephone calls, the staff was warm, I felt safe, everything was perfectly clean, the procedure was 22 minutes from gurney ride to gurney ride, the drugs were great, the release instructions were clearly explained to my partner, and...now...it's...done and I'm good for another ten years. read more

Came here dreading a colonoscopy after a nightmare experience in San Ramon five years ago. Besides the prep (which is horrible) this was an amazing experience! Dr. Higa and her team we're welcoming, professional, compassionate and everything great health care professionals should be. I've been a health care professional for 40 years and they do it the way it's supposed to be done! Nobody thinks "Gee- I'd love to get a colonoscopy ". The services for the screen were good but the cost is over the top. Be sure to check before you do this. Do not schedule anything until you are sure of the cost. They don't tell you until the day before. Naturally at that time you have take the time off work, purchased and swallowed all the pre-op stuff. They make promises and don't deliver. If you call them after the fact, forget support. They will tell you they are following up, but they don't. Then when you ask them about that, they tell you their records are quite clear and they were not supposed to follow up. Either way, I would not use this facility. I was so disappointed, not only with this administration, but also with the insurance I had. Blue Shield PPO. Astronomically expensive. So I have changed and will never return to this facility or use that insurance company again. read more

Front desk treated me differently from other patients. My spouse had a procedure done, and I asked if I can go back there to give my support, but the front desk personnel said, "they will come get you." Well, it's been half an hour and so far no one has came to the front desk. I waited 10 more minutes and then proceeded to ask another personnel (M.A.), still not a response. Poor service. By law, a spouse has the right to visit/accomodate his/her spouse. I notice that other visitors were allow to go in and out of the back office. Unfair treatment and discrimination exist in this office. Don't even try to contact me Sutter Media personnel. Train your employees right so this stuff doesn't happen. read more

After arriving early at every doctor's appointment for 50 years accepting long waits, I arrived a few minutes late at Gastroenterology Associates. I was not offered the same respect we've all shown doctors. The appointment was cancelled and I was sent home. I left work hours early, suffered through awful bay area traffic and was treated with no respect. The woman at the front desk was quite rude. I just had the first colonoscopy in my life. I don't know why people say there is anything difficult or painful about it. Frankly, it's a cinch. The most difficult part is the day before the procedure where you can't eat food (those of you who know me know I love to eat) and you have to drink some sickly sweet fluid that clears your intestines. The day of the procedure at Walnut Creek Endoscopy Center was easy. It's funny tho, when you arrive in the office, I have never sat in a room with more nervous looking men in my life--with the possible exception of when our wives were all having babies. This included me, as well. After being nervous in the waiting room, it turns out this whole thing is overblown. After the 30/45 minute or so procedure and then waking up from the anesthesia, I felt great and had absolutely no pain nor have I had any post-procedure issues. A colonoscopy is well-regarded method to detect and prevent colon cancer. I urge all my male pals not to worry so much and get a colonoscopy and Walnut Creek is a great place to do it. I used Dr. Lisa K. Higa here and she was great as was the entire staff. read more

The administration and billing is breathtakingly incompetent at this facility. In contrast, the medical care is excellent. Our surgeon, Dr. Nayaran, had no problem billing and collecting from both us and Cigna. The Endoscopy Center billed and collected from Cigna for the procedure, too. However, due to clerical incompetence, they billed us for our co-pay at a completely erroneous address and city. Our doctor, Cigna, and everyone involved, had our correct address and phone number. The facility never attempted to contact us, or anyone else, to see why we weren't receiving and responding to their invoices. Instead, they sent us to a collections agency! We will never use this facility again under any circumstances. read more

I went to this facility for a colonoscopy. There was ample parking. The waiting room had a television and a few magazines. My procedure went by smoothly without any complications. However, I am only giving it three stars because I found the client experience to be a bit cold and too professional. I have never had a colonoscopy in my life, and frankly, I was a bit scared. It would have helped tremendously if the staff were warm, friendly, and caring. I had the impression that to them, I was just a job, not a person. It didn't help that my IV site was left with a huge bruise. I have no recollection of the procedure actually taking place. All I remember was being wheeled into the room, saying hi to my doctor, then waking up at the recovery area an hour or so later. I did not even get the chance to speak with my doctor after the procedure....he did talk to my husband though. Thankfully I do not have to undergo another colonoscopy for another 13 years or so. Maybe by then, they will have a client-centered staff. read more

Due to some questionable symptoms, I found myself at the Walnut Creek endoscopy center for diagnostic testing. I am not a fan of needles, particularly getting an IV (understatement of the year), but from the moment I walked in, the staff here was kind and understanding, making me feel comfortable at every step of the way. Very attentive and considerate, the IV was a breeze and the entire staff came to introduce themselves prior to the procedure. They were clear to ensure all records were accurate and by the time I was put into the best nap I've had in years, I was extremely happy I had come to this center for my procedure. Really cannot say enough about my regards for this facility and the staff. And when it was all over, I received a Thank You card from the entire staff. Like some other reviewers, this was my first colonoscopy, and I was a little nervous. Everything went like clockwork, from the medication (nasty, but that's how it goes) and instructions given in advance, to the professional and caring staff, to the procedure itself, to the follow-up. I received biopsy results promptly (3 days), and this staff actually sent me a thank-you note! I'll be back...in five years. Maybe the industry will have developed a pill to take the place of that nasty liquid prep. :-( read more

I had my first routine colonoscopy yesterday with Dr Lisa Higa at the Walnut Creek Endoscopy facility. From start to finish this group of professionals, including the front office staff, RNs, phlebotomist and anesthesiologist, handled me with great care! They put me at ease and the place ran like clockwork - very efficient! My appt was at 2:30 but was told to arrive an hour early to get ready: put on a gown, go to the bathroom (one last time), start IV and other monitors. Dr Higa (gastroenterologist) and Dr B (anesthesiologist) both talked to me before the procedure to explain what they would do and answer all my questions. The most uncomfortable part was the "special" drinks the day before and the morning of. But the drinks definitely clear you out to make the procedure go smoothly and efficiently! When you have to get a colonoscopy, do it with a great team. I highly recommend this facility and Dr Higa! read more

I got colonoscopy done this morning by Dr. Berjis. It was a perfect experience. It was pretty easy to make reservation, read, write, sign and send documents. How to prepare for the day is written, and need to just follow instructions. I got a call from my pharmacy to pick up a drug. The day of operation was very smooth, too. It was my first time and I was a little bit nervous, however, everyone there were so kind enough, and when I woke up, everything was done. I will definitely come back for the next time. read more

I met Dr. Faraz Berjis for the very first time and found him to be kind and professional. I had never expected a call from Dr. Berjis the night before the exam and the follow-up call from the staff to see how I am doing the following day after the exam. I am so glad that I took my primarily doctor's advice to see Dr. Berjis whom I am totally impressed with his service. The idea of having to get a colonoscopy is not pleasant but after going to the WC endoscopy center my fears are totally gone. The staff were friendly, informative and supportive. Everything went like clockwork. I've never met such a professional group of people starting with the front office receptionist to the nurses, the anesthesiologist, dr green to Dr Hosseini. The procedure was painless and quick. It was like going in and waking up from a nap. I went out for lunch right after and felt fine. If I wanted to I could have gone to work for the rest of the day. I highly recommend this endoscopy center if you need to get a colonoscopy. It's not a big deal and the staff will make you feel totally at ease with the entire procedure. read more

This place is absolutely mercenary, even when they don't do their job right. My husband went in for a routine colonoscopy and endoscopy. First of all, they never told him how much the out of pocket costs were likely to be. After the procedure was completed, they did not do a VERY simple routine check - being a male over age 55, they did not verify that he could urinate freely before he was discharged. After he came home, he was in horrendous pain within a few hours and had to go to the ER for catheterization and pain relief. He went through a week of horrific pain before his system finally came back to normal. When we challenged the outrageous out-of-pocket bill they sent us as well as the quality of care, they repeatedly read some BS statement about how they were within their rights and procedures and could not be expected to make sure that their patients were recovered before they were discharged, even if it was only the simplest kind of common-sense check that was needed. His regular doctor couldn't believe that they wouldn't have done such a simple check. I think they are in a rush to get patients in and out as quickly as possible so that the cash register can go "Ca-ching". I am certainly not going there for my colonoscopy. It's bad enough when a health facility is incompetent, it is much worse when they will not admit it and stonewall you to death and absolutely refuse to apologize or put things right, when when you know and they know that they did wrong. read more

No one is really looking forward to having a colonoscopy, but it's one of life's necessities. The staff at WCEC really understands the vulnerability you as a patient feels (Perhaps even fear of the unknown, if it is your first procedure.) From the moment you enter the door, you notice the professional and respectful manner. A sign on the counter reads that food is not allowed in the waiting room out of respect for the patients who have been without food for their 24 hour prep. Once in the prep room, the staff is most concerned about your comfort, both physical and emotional. You are greeted with heated blankets, gentle prep assurances and questions regarding your well being. The whole team from nurses to the anesthesiologist to the technician greet you, introduce themselves, and treat you with the most gentle and respectful care, making sure that from start to finish you are feeling as comfortable as possible. They give you the feeling that they are your team, and it is very reassuring. The next day, there is a follow up call--one last step in the professionalism of Walnut Creek Endoscopy Center. read more
