Mary explained everything to us thoroughly - we gained so much knowledge about Carlton and this facility. What impresses is the most is that you can tell that Mary, along with other employees here, are genuinely nice and truly enjoy and take pride in their job. We did a tour of the facility - which is beautiful and immaculately maintained - it is exactly as advertised... warm, home feel, clean but not sterile. We saw some folks walking around, some with canes, some with walkers, others with wheelchairs, and some who are getting ready to go on a tricycle bike ride! We toured around the faculty including its TV and activity room, the outdoor dining and hanging area, the restaurant, library. What impressed us the most - in addition to their staff - is their restaurant. It is a nice restaurant and has a seasonal menu, and plenty of drink choice. It is truly a cruise ship on land! Every elderly person should be fortunate enough to live in a nice facility such as Carlton's when we get older!

However, what we know for sure is that from the moment our loved one stepped into that community until her last breath, her caregivers were present and responsive and loving. They wept with us as we said our goodbyes and demonstrated professional integrity and the power of human connection for days, months, years and then...some very slow arduous hours. Thank you.

We joined the list for prospective residents at The Glen at Heather Farms a couple of years ago…read more Since that time I've called their office on a few occasions and have always received prompt, courteous and straightforward answers to my questions. I attended a tour of the Pleasanton facility and besides being impressed with the facility itself, the presentation was excellent. My husband and I attended our "informational brunch" in November and again had a very positive experience. Lots of information, presented concisely and any and all questions were answered in a straightforward manner. There's nothing hard sell/ pushy about these presentations. Following that brunch we met with our residency counselor to figure out what next steps would best suit our situation. She has been excellent! Very patient in answering our questions, showing us the various unit floor plans and discussing our options. She's very knowledgeable about the entire process, of course, but she also understands that making the decision to move into this type of residence represents a significant change for most people and is both empathetic and encouraging. To summarize, our experience to date with The Glen at Heather Farms has been very positive.

We…read moreattended many of those early meetings very excited about the future prospect of this CCRC community. As time moved forward I became concerned about how this community was being advertised to the public, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). The concept is wonderful, but at one of the very large meetings a few years back, while people were asking about when they could pick out there houses etc., I was the only person who asked when the Wellness Center was going to be built which would included Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living and Memory Care. The answer I received was disappointing. Not until after residents moved into the community would the Wellness Center be built. My next question was to ask what would then happen if my spouse or myself needed the extra care a Continuing Care Retirement Community is suppose to provide for us, but is not available? Would one of us then have to find a place for that care outside of Glen at Heather Farms? And if so, how is Glen at Heather Farms a continuing care community if the Wellness Center is not on site yet? I had read that the Center would not be built until about 2 years after residents had moved into the community. Also, if as a couple one of you is in good health, while the other may have health issues, you will not be able to become a resident of Glen at Heather Farms as a couple. You must have a clean bill of health from your doctor. I know of one person who was interested in moving to Glen at Heather Farms with friends. Because that person had some health issues, he had to look elsewhere. Fortunately, he found another CCRC community in Walnut Creek close by and is thrilled being there. I also checked out this other community a number of years ago and they had no problem with residents with health issues moving in. Please have other options available to you, When your time comes to move you won't be disappointed if your health issues are a "no go" to becoming a resident at Glen at Heather Farms. My father had been declining in health for years, eventually diagnosed with PSP (progressive…read moresupranuclear palsy) and his care needs kept escalating; over the last 2 years we moved him 3+ times (from his home to independent living, to assisted care, to a SNF, and lastly to memory care of contra costa: MCCC under hospice orders). MCCC was a godsend for us. A smaller facility dedicated to memory care meant that every caregiver and staff member was trained and knew how to provide for seniors with higher needs. My father in particular needed specific diet instructions, non-verbal communication, and direct assistance with all daily tasks. We didn't have to deal with a wait-list (maybe we were lucky, there was a unit readily available), the pricing is very straightforward, and all the staff quickly became some of his favorite people. They also coordinated seamlessly with Suncrest hospice of walnut creek, which made regular updates and communication very easy. My father moved into MCCC in January and passed away in April. And I truly believe the high quality and genuine care he received there was part of how we were able to send him off in the best possible way: surrounded by family, listening to the music he loved, hearing the words "i love you," and feeling a warm embrace as he took his last breaths. Senior care is a complex and increasingly expensive proposition in the US, MCCC made the price feel well worth it and we never questioned whether we made the right decision moving him here. There really are some of the most empathetic, altruistic, and caring people working there - I hope they know that and can be reminded that the direct care they provide honors the dignity of their residents and brings immense peace of mind to the families and friends who love them.

They just had a big renovation in the community areas of the memory care sections and it looks freshened up. (Except for the old furniture). Most of the caregivers are good - they have a lot of work to do for a lot of people and not very much staffing. They seem to really care about the old folks who live there. I am updating my review from last winter to reflect current conditions at Aegis. The staff has had a major change with a new nursing director. A Marquita Kennedy has come aboard, and none are too happy about it. She has not been there terribly long, and already residents and us family are grumbling and good staff members are fixing to leave because of her. One bad egg may spoil a good thing here, and quick, too. The activities have slacked off some, less and less it seems. My Mother has been more sedentary with less to do. The food is still the same, not too good. The place is kept up fairly well. The staff turnover seems about the same as anywhere else, but is about to go through the roof with Ms. Kennedy at the reigns.
