Actually know their evidence and are talented versus other naturopathic doctors have seen in the area (: Dr. Heather is FABULOUS, careful, attentive for cancer care- we started with another clinic and they were a money grab- Dr. Heather is expensive but worth it. We liked her so much, I saw Dr. Barrett for a GI issue....that the GI doctors prescribed me a black label antibiotic for (even though I'm nursing) accidentally and misdiagnosed. Dr. Barrett figured out the issue BEFORE the colonoscopy (I regret having that $3,000 test done now). Anyway, they are very evidence based. They are also very transparent with their costs. Unfortunately, you cannot get this level of care with the way insurance prioritizes saving money through most plans. So they kept my $200 deposit............very disappointing. Full disclosure........... 1. I canceled my appointment and wasn't seen. 2. They did tell me about the $200 deposit that was nonrefundable without a 48hr cancellation. 3. I canceled 24hr ahead of my appointment. 4. I should have known better then to agree to a nonrefundable deposit from a doctor's office. What went wrong? I have been trying to find a local non-western medicine doctor to form a long term relationship with. Someone I can reach out to from time to time for this and that. My primary issue being stress, edema and adrenal fatigue. I spent a long time searching before deciding on this office. They seemed professional and gave me a brief free phone consult. As I started filling out the patient questionnaire and reviewing pricing/treatments I noticed something that I am seeing more and more. If you are not seen for a certain amount of time, you need to pay for a new patient intake fee. That's like $450. Wow. I decided to call the office and clarify. I got into a bit of a game of semantics with the receptionist and my take on it was that it would be basically on the discretion of the doctor. Then I canceled my appointment and asked for a refund. Nope, no refund. You canceled late. No problem I said, you are just confirming why I don't want to do business with you. Truth be told, the medical director and the doctor I spoke to both called me but I really didn't want to get into it any deeper. I saw enough. It is a unfortunate trend I am seeing with chiropractic, alternative practitioners, acupuncturists, etc.They are trying to get you to accommodate their hours. They also seem to be nickel and diming everything. Get you on their program. Very frustrating. I have spent a lot of money on alternative care practitioners over the years.You usually have to pay cash for these kinds of services since they are outside most insurance companies. That is something I am willing to do but why does it have to be robbery? Why am I supposed to accomodate you? Now that healthcare is becoming more integrated, it seems the alternative docs are getting corrupted. I understand we all have our own lives and issues going on. I've been desperately trying to make an appointment with this place, because I am very sick most days it's hard to walk. The receptionist told me the doctor wasn't really excepting new patients, but they would make a phone call appointment to see if she would be willing to take me on. I prayed so hard that she'd be able to take me on as a new patient. The ozone they offer here has worked for me previously at my old clinic. So finally I was able to get a telephone appointment but unfortunately was blown off. I left at least 2 voicemails at the time of my appointment and was ignored. Makes me miss my old doctor. I wish she didn't shut down her practice I wouldn't be in this position seeking help from places who apparently don't want to help. I received a phone call the next day in a very relaxed tone "oh I'm so sorry the doctor must have forgotten about you. Let's try to get you rescheduled." No thanks. Very unprofessional and I'm not gonna spend tens of thousands of dollars on a facility that doesn't care about me to begin with and it SHOWED. My goal is to stay as "healthy" as possible while I continue treatment for metastatic cancer. The nurse practitioner at my oncologist office suggested I start seeing a naturopathic doctor and recommended Walnut Creek Naturopathic. I had been considering this is an option as I was about to transition from chemo to immunotherapy treatment. I wanted a doctor to closely monitor my blood work and off label treatments, as well as suggest appropriate supplements. I've been a patient at WCN for over a year and I can't be more pleased. She had an issue with an employee before, who is now thankfully gone and it seems some of these negative reviews are in regards to her. Dr Barrett has been my naturopathic doctor now for three years. Prior to this I was a patient of Dr Anja. So I have been with this office for 10 years now. I have been with this office for three moves. And with each move I have seen awesome additions and implementation. Their current location is by far their best move yet. Easy to find and comfortable waiting room. The office staff is always so welcoming and kind. All are very attentive and generous with their time. I can't sing praises of Annette enough. Always a joy to connect with her. Dr Barrett has seen me through my lumpectomy, radiation and now remission. Dr Barrett always was there to explain and support me through out. Whether it be through supplements or emotionally. She is very knowledgeable and presents approaches to symptoms and side effects. I went to Dr. Barrett after having a toxic reaction to taking an antibiotic (fluoroquinolone class) and subsequent complex side effects including neuropathy, tendon and joint issues, hair loss, pain and a host of other weird things. This is a complex area not well understood and my regular MD who had prescribed the antibiotic (for pneumonia) could offer no guidance. Dr. Barrett knew exactly how to treat what was happening, what labs to run, and what on-going care and healing I needed and will need as a result. I can't recommend Dr. Jamie Berner enough! My mom was being treated by her and brought me in :) I've had gastrointestinal issues for about 14 years and have been on every diet/elimination diet, "healthy living" thing, medications, etc, trying to help my symptoms, for forever. I saw about 3 different gastrointestinal doctors, 1 dietitian, and 2 naturopaths before her. Before Dr. Berner, no one really seemed to listen or help at all. After 2 appointments, and being on the supplements she prescribed for 4 months, I saw a HUGE difference (It was SIBO and some other stuff). 10 months and about 4-5 appointments later I feel absolutely incredible and my whole life is different. There are not a lot of words to explain the time and energy you get back when daily pain has vanished. I also want to mention that I've struggled in the past with disordered eating and was super wary of being told to go on another diet (low fod-map, gf, vegan, etc) by a practitioner- especially since I'd tried every diet under the sun and nothing helped me to feel better. This is NOT a fake review. This is a 3rd revision of my review for Walnut Creek Naturopathic Office, more specifically it is a review of Dr. Barrett (owner). I had an initially positive experience with one of their doctors, Dr. Cynthia Castillo. She has left the office, and I was offered another doctor. This is not covered by insurance, and for me it is very expensive. I have been experiencing issues with my hormones since the birth of my 3rd child. I have tried the naturopathic methods for almost 2 years. I have seen little improvement. To this point, I have completely unpredictable menstrual cycles with the therapy Dr Cynthia has me on. I understand it is trial and error, but I was hoping to see better results. It's been quite a roller coaster ride. Dr Cynthia did tell me in multiple occasions that she could treat my condition and that's why I kept staying. I have no anger towards the people in her office as everyone was very kind. I was hoping to share my experience so that people could learn from it, not to insult anyone from that office. My negative experiences began after Dr. Castillo left the practice, and the office contacted me to switch doctors. I was told that I would have to pay a new patient fee, and I would have a different arrangement that I had with Dr. Castillo. This didn't seem right to me. If I was going to spend more money, I wanted more reassurance. While speaking with office staff, they explained that Dr. Castillo wasn't an expert in fixing hormones. The staff member explained that this new doctor was a "guru" with hormones and would be an excellent fit for me. I thought this was strange because this same staff member explained to me that Dr. Castillo was the best fit for me when I first started treatment. WHY PUT ME WITH THIS DOCTOR IN FIRST PLACE IF THERE WAS A BETTER FIT? After questioning she than offered a discount. These responses were causing red flags to pop up in my mind as to what the priorities at this office were. Any business wants to make money; I understand this. However, in this line of work, patient well-being should be on par with the money-making side at the very least. After already having doubts on whether the naturopathic treatment works, I had an even greater doubt about the office's top priority, my well-being. After voicing my concerns with Dr. Barrett, she plead to keep me coming. She asked that I give them 6 more months of 15-30 mins visits. After thinking about this, I asked her if there could be any type of guarantee that I would see some improvements in the 6 months that I was prepared to try. I did not want to waste more money and more importantly more time with treatment that wasn't effective. After some brief interactions with the staff and Dr. Barrett, she later emailed that her office couldn't treat me any longer. She provided 2 referrals to other doctors. I couldn't believe this. After asking for any type of guarantee, I was dropped. This was just a couple of days ago from when Dr. Barrett asked that I give them 6 more months. This seemed very strange. I could only assume that they have no faith in their practices, and that keeping you coming while trying different things is how they stay in business. I believe there are benefits, but depending on the person and what is ailing you. I would do your research, and be cautious if selecting this approach. I do not recommend this office. Dr. Barrett certainly seems more concerned with making money more than patient well-being. She even tried to discredit my first review by eluding to readers that I have mental issues. This is evident in how I was treated, and she responds to these yelp reviews (3 different responses from her). Oh, and the doctors she referred me to? I researched them. One has been sued, and is being sued. Both have very negative reviews from multiple sources. No thank you. Also, they NEVER mentioned that natural medicine does not treat everything, they both recommended their services. read more

It is my pleasure to HIGHLY recommend Dr. Heather Barrett and the staff at Walnut Creek Naturopathic (WCN). I sought help from this practice for severe shoulder pain and resultant decreased mobility. I had read about Prolozone therapy helping many people with joint issues. I found WCN while searching for a certified Prolozone practitioner. Maria, the patient care manager, was my first contact. I found her to be compassionate, informative, professional, and very service oriented. Annette, the Office Manager, is very organized and personable. She makes the patients feel comfortable. I have seen Dr. Barrett now on 5 occasions.My shoulder is getting better and better. I am sure if I had gone to an Orthopedic MD, they would have probably steered me to reconstructive surgery. Some friends have had this done with unappealing results. Immediately after the Prolozone treatments, there is tremendous relief from the pain and much improved mobility. It is truly AMAZING. Dr. Barrett continually demonstrates her deep desire to help her patients. She maintains a selection of science based clinical proven supplements which don't have the horrific side effects that prescription drugs have. She recommended one for my shoulder and I am sure it is helping me get over this ailment. The office physically is very warm, clean, and organized with an updated feel. While I originally sought help from Dr. Barrett for my sore shoulder, she is also providing me with very valuable testing and evaluation for my Congestive Heart Failure. Dr. Barrett is VERY busy because she is so good. I look forward to working with Dr. Barrett with any wellness or health issues that life throws my way. I wish I could leave more stars. read more

Had a 12:15 appointment today for a free consultation. I waited for an hour and no one called so I called and left a message but no one returned my call. I called again and finally someone answered and said "Oh yeah, something came up with another patient." I realize this was a free consultation but I took extra steps to be out of the office so I could talk to the doc in private and that was really inconvenient. I was hoping to to get into this place because of the issues I have been having but it looks like its not going to happen.
