Big fan of Zeke and Scott. They are passionate about Pinot, they make you feel welcome, and they are generous with their time and knowledge. Definitely 5 stars for customer service. If you love Pinot Noir, you will be in heaven. There are usually 4 or 5 Pinots to taste, plus a lovely Chardonnay. The wines are elegant, varietally-correct, and all very different from each other. Zeke drops some mad descriptors, too! The setting is intimate and upscale, but the atmosphere is lively. In the summer, they have outdoor seating, and sometimes food and music. It's the kind of spot that could be pretentious, but isn't--I appreciate that. Fair tasting fee; prices are on the high side, but worth it for the quality. Walt Wines in Sonoma is a must! Emily, our host made the overall experience that much better. I've been on the fence for a while now about joining the Walt Wine Club. I called and Emily talked me through all the options. She set me up with a reservation for the Sonoma tasting room. Emily really took care of us. She was extremely knowledgeable about the Wines as well as the areas they grow the wines. Each of the wines we tasted were wonderful. We just became members here and are very excited about it. We've visited the winery a few times and become Pinot Noir fans because of it. The ambiance in the outdoor space is so nice; under beautiful trees and very relaxed. The staff is pretty friendly (though got a bit of attitude when we didn't make a reservation and was told we only had 30 minutes but ended up staying longer and it wasn't a problem). Having been in customer service for many years I've learned that you can have the best product but if you provide a poor experience, the product becomes overshadowed by that poor experience. This is how I felt yesterday at Walt. We had a large group without a reservation, the staff here acted like they couldn't accommodate, even though the backyard was only half full. The staff then continued to teach us a lesson in what they require to spend money there by announcing to the whole patio that "next time, we will need a reservation because your group keeps getting bigger and bigger." For such an expensive place, the lack of class in the delivery of policies was surprising. Wine was decent, venue is beautiful, staff was horribly rude. read more

Stopped Wednesday with my wife for a Pinot tasting and was delighted. Their wines are absolutely delicious! Tasted several pinots and ended up getting a couple of bottles. We always make a stop at this tasting room when we are in Sonoma, as we enjoy theirlovely wines. Walt was the first stop on our trip to Sonoma from Chicago. I went with my boyfriend and it was both of our first times in Sonoma. Walt was so quaint, intimate, and had a nice boutique feel. Melissa greeted us at the door and she was so kind and welcoming! We sat outside in the gorgeous patio area. Cynthia was our server - she was knowledgeable and very friendly! She even gave us a few coupons to other tastings/wineries in the area. The wines were delicious also! read more

We LOVE Roessler Pinots! Our experience in the tasting room was so much fun, and we tried a bunch of excellent wines. My favorite was the Grffin's Lair--it was smoky and delicious! I also really liked the Brosseau and the 2008 Ridges. We ended up getting a discovery case which came with four different pinots (one of which we hadn't tasted). Of course, as soon as we got home, we opened a bottle to try it--and it was excellent as well! read more

We were walking on the plaza and just felt like doing a tasting on a whim. My fiance loves pinot noir and these yelp reviews were good so we walked in to Walt. We sauntered up to the bar and had the pleasure of Dan taking care of us. It was probably one of the best tastings we have done, and just standing at the small bar for a tasting is the way to go. We got so much attention and Dan is incredibly knowledgeable about the wines and history. He is a connoisseur of belt buckles so it certainly helps to be wearing a big one. It was a truly great experience overall and the wines were great. I am not a wine guy, but all of them were fantastic on my pedestrian pallet. Feb 15, saw they needed reservation for 6 or more so guys opted out so our 5 gals could taste but they still wanted reservation because 2 other tasters were already in there not in our party. The people working here are RUDE. Came in with a large party on Saturday, half of the tables were empty and they acted like it was a burden to accommodate us. Two people in our party were parking the car and joined late and were refused entrance even though half the place was empty. We dropped into Walt for a tasting and we're so glad we did. Their wines were so incredibly smooth. And the atmosphere was really nice and laid back. If you only have time for a few tastings, I'd highly recommend heading to this side of the square. This tasting room was actually peaceful and very intimate when I went. We had a group of 6 and went at 11 am so not too many people had stopped by yet I'm guessing. I love pinot noir and I had heard good things and this is definitely a cool place. I was not extremely impressed with the wines. They were not bad, don't get me wrong but if I don't really like the wine then I won't rave about the place. The girl who poured for us was very pleasant and even opened up 1 which was not on the list which I thought was really cool. We did buy a bottle because the tasting is $10 but if you buy a bottle it covers two people. Even if it is a $25 bottle. It was a nice way to spend the morning with friends but don't expect scenery or amazing pinot. read more

We stopped here and were not overly impressed. The atmosphere was nice and had a cozy outdoor seating under an amazing redwood tree. However, our server paid little attention to us and there was only one other couple sitting outside. Maybe it was because they were buying into the membership or order more flights of wine, but it felt as if our business was not wanted. Not to mention, the pours were very minimal. At one point, we had to ask her to come back over and offer the second pouring. I guess it was a sign that we were not greeted when we walked in and we could not tell who was working there and who was a guest. In comparison to all the other places, this lacked the hospitality that we have experienced being in Sonoma. read more

Our final winery stop in Sonoma, and what a treat! The Pinot Noirs are fabulous, each with their own unique flavors and textures. The workers are extremely friendly and seem to genuinely enjoy their work, taking time to explain the source vineyards or regions. The tasting fees for my wife and I were waived for our purchase, but we would have happily paid to taste these wines. This review is for a recent experience. Their wines are fab but I find it very interesting to see the low reviews and the reoccurring theme of rude employees and horrible customer service. This happened to us this past weekend. My husband and I have been Hall members for over 5 years and have had fantastic experiences there in St. Helena. I have been to Walt in Sonoma 3x: 1 yr ago with 2 girlfriends (without a res & a very pleasant experience), 1 wk ago with the same 2 girlfriends (without a res & another pleasant experience), and this past weekend, with my husband and a different girlfriend (her 1st time @ Walt), which was a horrible experience. My husband and I arrived Sunday around noon, and it was very busy. Michael asked us if we had a res and we said no. With a look of disapproval, he said there was no room and to come back another time. We had lunch nearby and then met a friend and decided to retry. Fortunately (I guess) it was much slower and we got a table in the "living room" (LR). There was no one out back (very cold), there were 2 occupied tables on the front porch and in the LR there was 1 other table of 3. We were served with attitude and he only addressed my husband. My husband decided to leave us alone and from there it all went south. When we told him to leave my husband's wines, which he didn't touch, he said "don't worry there will be more". We were not considered at all; no checking in, and over 15 minutes between our tiny pours. We moved outside and Michael came out once, after that I had to go find him. The 1x he came out my friend asked if this was also a Pinot, and he said, "Yes, that's what we do.". SO condescending. In the end my friend didn't buy any wine and won't return, and he made 2 members very angry. read more

Roessler is a temple of Pinot. If you have any inclination towards Pinot Noir, you will most likely feel like you have walked into the Vatican or something of that magnitude when you see the list of the different Pinots that they are pouring. The staff is excellent at learning about your palette and leading you through a personalized tour of the senses through Pinot Land. They have something like 19 Pinots in addition to some tasty Chardonnay. They source their grapes from Willamette Valley all the way down to Santa Barbara and possibly even further up and down the coast. What this makes for is Pinot Noir all the way across the spectrum and you will likely find a new favorite and have a great edutaining experience. We had an awful experience here. We got dropped off specifically to visit the tasting room at 5:40, reading everywhere that it closed at 6:00 pm. We love their Pinots and were with a couple who had never tasted them. Since there were several people inside, we begged the man to let us in for a quick tasting, stating that we would buy the two bottles we already liked. He told us we were welcome to come in and buy the wine, but he refused to do the tasting since he was closing up. If this guy's job is to sell wine, he is awful at it. He probably wanted to get off work and start drinking his product and not sell it. If you visit this place, be sure you go before 5:00 or I guess the employees become rude and stop working. I'd give this place one star except for my love and respect of their wine and our enjoyment the first time we visited this place. read more

I found Walt Wines while taking a random trip to Sonoma. I saw the word Pinot and decided to try it out. I'm so glad that I did. My first experience was so great I became a member that day. Now Walt is a special place for my family and I to visit when we just want to get out of town. It is truly a family feel when you go there, everyone is so friendly its hard to leave. We enjoy sitting outside on the patio, while kids play in the yard. And the wine??? A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! read more

Located just off the square in Sonoma, CA the tasting room is a small converted home. The specialty is Pinot Noirs made from a variety of sources from the Willamette Valley to the Santa Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County. I like the fruit forward pinot 09 Blue Jay Pinot Noir from the Anderson Valley in Mendocino California, I was also enchanted by the 08 La Encantada Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir. I was not impressed by the 09 Big Bend Chardonnay too much caramel flavor overwhelmed the fruit! Anyone who likes pinot should go there when in Sonoma! read more
