Guess I should have checked Yelp instead of Google before hiring. Don't hire Walter Electric! They are unprofessional and over charge. They also are not transparent about their billing. I hired Walter Electric to come out and replace 7 receptacles and tighten a ceiling light. They were at my house for 3 hours. Took them one of those hours to replace one receptacle. They charge $179 for the first hour and $90 for every 30 minutes after that. They originally called and said my total bill was $844.37. When I called back they told me it was $1,135.87 but didn't explain the bill difference except it was a calculation error. I paid the bill and asked for an invoice. They only sent the receipt. I called back and asked for an itemized bill. They sent a bill stating they replaced 7 receptacles and tightened the ceiling light without a breakdown. I called again and asked for a receipt that showed the amount broken down showing what was billed for labor and for each material. They responded that labor was $539 so the rest was materials. So $596.87 in materials?!?!?!? Outlets cost $20-$25 a piece, they charged me $85 each! I was shocked and told them that was outrageous and I'd like my bill reviewed and to confirm the price per receptacle. They told me they do not do that. I spoke to 3 different employees and they all stated they do no provide itemized invoices. This business practice is unprofessional and only something a business would do if they had something to hide; which clearly they do by grossly overcharging. Avoid this company!!! read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Absolutely terrible. I had a tech come by my house to give me a quote for wiring some ceiling fans and swapping out some dated switched and receptacles. He (John something) looked at the rooms I wanted fans, and then said I needed to send an email indicating the number of outlets and switches I needed replacing. The work that was done was fine, but they didn't finish the job! Installed 34 of 36 outlets and I have several switches not swapped and plates that don't match the switches. The tech ran out of materials and said I just needed to call and outline what was missing and they'd finish the job. That's not what happened. I was transferred to "customer service" and they said the quote did not specify that I needed 2-gang or 3-gang switch plates. Which apparently cost more than single switch plates (by a dollar). The contract literally reads "Replace twelve (12) switches and cover plates." They understood the snafu, but now said that they'd need to charge me a "continuation fee" of $120 every half hour to finish the job. Ridiculous. Shit company, shit service, shit tech (half the outlets aren't even aligned). read more

Hey Readers, Not looking good for Walter Electric from my experience. Can I give a minus star? Came to check on an electrical problem regarding loss of power in several rooms. He hadn't a clue after spending an hour and wasting my time as evidenced by the fact that the same problem occurred minutes after he pulled out the driveway. The tech replaced a circuit (he said was faulty) with another circuit he found on a shelf(my shelf, my house, my old circuit). Returned the next day and began again trying to decipher the problem. He was unsuccessful. Moments after he left same problem re-occurred. We called in another company who quickly found and remedied the problem. We want our money back...all $200 bucks. I'm telling you folks anybody can hang out a sign and paint a logo on their truck. The real test is what you do when you get inside a customers home. And Walter Electric failed miserably! read more

* To begin with, they knocked on my door at 8:30 am, but the company charged from 8:00 am! * Replacing 7 Integrated LED Recessed Trim doesn't take no more than 30 min (including moving the latter and replacing the light). Typically, it should take 2 min each. The whole house has over 60 recessed lights and it was replaced in 2 hours by my brother. He just couldn't reach the ceiling to replace the last 7. So, the lack of your experience in the actual electrical field shows up right here which adds to why your estimate was so off the chart. Reading the numbers from a printed sheet in front of you doesn't make you an estimator, it is a secretary job. * As we discussed on the phone, the job should not take no more than 2 hours for 2 professional and experienced men to install a chandelier on that size, however, from my point of view, you charged for two skilled electrician and sent two people that cannot read a simple instruction, and too slow to finish a job in 2 hours. * They were stating over and over "that they never installed such a Chandelier," If you didn't, then why did you accepted the job and continued to work on it, you could leave it as is, and I would of called experienced company. One of the technicians even asked my sister to send a picture of the finished chandelier so they know what to do! * Your technician didn't try to finish the job on timely manner, as they were slow, unprofessional, unskilled, and weren't able to even follow the simple instruction. Opening the bag that is labeled A or B and install it where the arrow points out doesn't take that much intelligence. They were installing random crystals, and it took my brother a couple hour to just fixed their wrongdoing, the hanging the rest of the crystals in 30 min! In the video, that I have sent, it clearly shows that crystals with 3 diamond and package label P should be installed in row 2. But instead they installed a 5 diamond with a package labeled N. * What you see in the picture is a hanging Chandelier with Walter Electric design, not what I have ordered and instruction said. * Your technicians are unqualified and have done everything they could to lengthen the project so you guys can charge more. * By whose permission, they took the working ceiling fan with them, and left all the trashes in the house? * By the way, suggesting contacting a different electrical company is a common sense. I guess you worked too much with those mentally challenged technicians that you expected someone who is complaining about your company and asking for the 50% refund will contact you guys again. I tried my best to solve this matter by a simple conversation and asking for 50% refund for the work of your technicians. I was charged ridiculous $1500 yes $1500 for installation! I reserve the right to keep these emails as evidence from your company response regarding my issue before I proceed with any legal action and writing online reviews. 4.7 90+ reviews look very suspicions they post google reviews almost once or twice a week and mostly 5 stars for this shady company! Sometimes five reviews posted in one single day?!!!! hope they don't all come from fake accounts which many many dishonest businesses do and purchase reviews from eBay or fiverr.com to boost their visibility online which is highly illegal and could end up in jail or up to $100k in fines, then once you call them for service they fraud you. I called the company to complain for a bad job they did, and ask for refund or completing their work; the manager responded me that they will come back to fix it, but still be charging hourly to complete their lazy tech's job, which they promised to completed ontime. When I said I'm not agree with it, but he rudely said you still can give the rest of your work to another company we can't do anything for you. We were given an 8-noon appointment window on 3/24/2022 and Walter Electric was a no-show. I didn't get an explanation for the no-show until about 4pm. They then said we could be the first appointment on the morning of 3/25/2022 which I declined because I couldn't miss more time from work. Time is not only money for companies but, in this fast-paced world where everyone's trying to fit everything in, time is money for the customers as well. To ask a customer to stay home for four hours to wait for you and you still not show or call to immediately explain why, doesn't honor the customer's time (and money). We had a really great experience with Walter Electric, and our technician Tony specifically. We needed 2 ceiling fans installed. After researching online and talking to friends and family in the area who also had fans installed, we had a reasonable idea of how much we should be charged. No wires needed to be run, just the fans installed. Other companies wanted to charge us well over $600 when everything we found indicated no more than $200. So, we were getting pretty well run down when we called Walter Electric. They came out to do an estimate, and immediately told us it would be only about $160. Tony was very quick. You could tell he had installed a ton of fans and new exactly what he was doing. 2 fans up in less than an hour. No issues with workmanship, everything works perfectly. We would recommend. Great work by the electrician but their scheduling/dispatch process is a hot mess. I called to schedule a follow up appointment with the electrician and scheduling/dispatch took 3-days to look at the electrician's schedule to identify a day he could come out - then didn't call me to let me know when to expect him. They need to be able to tell you a day and a time window like everyone else on the planet. Respect the customer's time, please. read more

I contacted Walter Electric on a Sunday for a problem in my assisted living home. I was told by "Robert" that they would schedule someone to come out that day. He told me what the 2 hour minimum service charge would be, I agreed. When I was called by the company today that charge was more than I was quoted and they refused to honor the amount I was told. WARNING! Think twice before using them! Not worth it! The price is never going to be what was quoted. The work was handled nicley, so that is something they do have going for them. Before the job was started an estimate visit was needed to see the scope of the work that was to be done. I was told that my estimate fee of $69.00 would be taken off the cost of the job when paid up front, so after the estimate was done I received a detailed quote stating a total of $469.00 (having already paid the estimate fee) I thought that my final payment would have been $400.00, becuase the estimate payment was not reflected off the detailed quote. No I was wrong according to them! I ended up paying $538.00 in total, NOT STATED ON THE QUOTE, to make sure the estimate fee was included. This is concidered a hidden fee becuase it was not reflected on the detailed quote. If I had known they operated this way I would never have used them. Not only that, but they did the first quote wrong. Not using what was detailing and recorded from the estimate visit, and they left out an additional job I needed them to quoted, aslo from that visit. All in all BE WARNED when you use them. If I could give them a half star I would. They will find someway to make sure you don't get your estimate fee taken off the bill. read more

Beware of company. I had an issue at my rental property that Walter Electric "fixed". Days later the same issue came back and they were unwilling to send someone out within 3 days to repair it under warranty. They charged me $500 for work that did absolutely nothing to fix the issue. Luckily I found a better electrician that was honest and stood behind their work! read more

This was the worse job I have ever had. One person in particular on the management staff is the meanest and most unprofessional person I have ever worked with. When this person gets angry, the yelling and profanity is so loud, that they rush to close windows and doors in the call center to keep the customers from overhearing it. They treat you like crap, they work you like dogs for little pay and they do not provide breaks...only a 30 minute lunch break. There's no restaurants close by so you have to either bring your lunch every day or have your food delivered, which makes it more expensive. The only reason this company deserves 1 star is because the owner treats people with respect. I wish she would enforce this with one person in particular on her staff. The mental abuse is too stressful to deal with. read more

This is part 2 of my review posted on Dec 10th on BBB. I finally got a call from Walter Electric saying they will send a tech to take a look a what needs to be done in my garage. On Tuesday Dec 14th, an electrician (Tony) came to my house and did a quick assessment of what I wanted to do (a new breaker with a receptacle). After Tony finished his assessment, I told him that I was ready to get this work done based on the estimate he told me ($250-260 since the receptacle being installed will be on the same wall as the electrical panel), but he said "I don't do scheduling", so I asked him to request customer service to call me to schedule this work, but that didn't happen until Dec 17th. The quote it was $334, not the $260 Tony said. That didn't bother me since I assumed that the $69 already paid for Tony to stop by and do the assessment will be deducted because when I agreed to have Tony come over they said "The $69 will be discounted from your quote if you accept our proposal' so I signed the quote. Tony stopped by my house on Dec 20th and did the work. When the time come to pay the work done, I asked Tony why I was getting charged $334 instead of $265 ($334 - $69 already paid). Tony said, he was not aware of that, but kindly charged me only $265. On Thursday Dec 23rd, I got a call from Tracy or Stacey (can't recall her name) asking for the $69 Tony did not charge me. I explained to Tracy/Stacey what Tony did, but she was very determined to collect the money and didn't even listen to my explanation. I told her to go ahead and charge my credit card to avoid any collections. Bottom line here is: I gave Walter Electric a second chance to proof this is not a dishonest company, but they didn't care. Their customer service is terrible. I am not crying for $69. I am complaining about what they told me when I agreed to their terms since the beginning, but they did not honor that agreement. I am in Charge of 50 buildings had Walter came out to do a repair. The tech only fixed 50% of the job. Took a month to get a copy of the invoice and work description just find out job was not done. I had an appointment for this past Monday. Originally wouldn't give me a timeframe, so I asked can you narrow it down to morning or afternoon? I was told between 12-4 pm and they would call 30 min before coming over. Around 3:45 pm it was apparent they weren't coming at all. No call, no show. Terrible business. I called Walter Electric for a diagnosis of the burning smell I had experienced the last few days. I thought it was my new HVAC system that was installed 2 months. They checked it out and could find any issues with it. They suspected it would have to be something burning within the wiring and insulation. Called Walter Electric. Was took the only availability was Tuesday after the holiday. Operator changed his mind and was able to book same day, when I told him the issue sounded more urgent. Sounds sketchy already. Tech came out with a big van full of equipment. Did a visual inspection, which I already done. No equipment was used to check my lines or breaker box. I was charged $100 for "troubleshooting" for 15 minutes. Was told by the tech, I can't find the issue and I don't know what to tell you, but to tear down the insulation and find it yourself. Called to dispute this issue with a supervisor. Supervisor kept defending the case of what is considered troubleshooting. Pricing is not transparent nor is the quality of the work justified. The supervisor only offered a 10% refund, only because I mentioned there was a coupon on the website. I would not recommend this company for any electrical needs. read more

Thank you Walter Electric! I had replaced a 3 way light switch (or tried to) and cutoff several of my lights. I called Walter Electric the night before, and by 12:30 the next day they were out. The guy came in discovered the wiring issue and fixed it within 15 minutes. I also had him do an outlet at the same time. Moral of the story is I should keep my day job and leave electricity to the professionals. I would definitely use them in the future. read more

This time the electrician charged me $150 to do nothing. $100 to come out and $50 for 30 mins to do nothing besides mess the job up more and talk. Meanwhile the technician asked me for help (which defeats the purpose of me hiring them) and then they want to charge me another $350 to finish a job that should take no more than 1 hr. This place has a terrible business model. You literally must be available all day as they don't do actual timed appointments. They will allegedly call you when they are ready to come over...you have FIVE MINUTES to confirm with them before they drop you. I waited for EIGHT HOURS and NEVER got said call. When I called to complain, the operator told me "I can't hear you over the music" there was no music playing. She claims that there was "loud music in her phone" (what?) and she just couldn't hear but that I was "still on the schedule". After waiting for 8 hours, I cancelled the appointment. I'd recommend you go elsewhere, there are other places that treat their customers better and make them feel valued. We had a technician out who needed to be picked up by the company because he passed out in our basement for an hour, and then in the company truck on our driveway for another hour. He was slurring his words and walking funny. They sent another technician to finish the job. They were here all day for a job that should have taken a few hours at most. They called the next day for payment and said they'd take off $50 (off a $500+ job). How offensive is that?! You couldn't pay me to go through that again. If I have to call to get a technician picked up, that's BAD. Then to add insult to injury, we had to BEG for 50% off the job. I should not have to beg for a reasonable discount. Especially after my kids were so traumatized they asked to go to a neighbors house to wait it all out. The whole thing just left me feeling undervalued and was not professional. Not once did the owner/supervisor call. I asked them to have him call me, and I had to go through an employee instead to deal with all this. read more

Good service, decent communication. Tony, the electrician, was fast, friendly and very helpful. Would definitely recommend their services.

Just had John from Walter Electric do some detective work to find out why our den recessed ceiling lights weren't working. He quickly traced the problem to a faulty dimmer, and then went out to purchase a replacement which he installed. I called earlier today and spoke with a very nice dispatcher, and scheduled service for early next week. Later in the day I received a call that they were in my area and could come by sooner, so I said sure. We had tried to call some other electricians earlier in the week and noone returned our call, so receiving this sort of quick and personal response was great. Our technician Bill was friendly and professional, and fixed and diagnosed our problem in a very short time. I thought the charges were reasonable although admittedly I don't have anything to compare it to. Would recommend to anyone! read more

We felt ignored originally by this company, but our job did get completed to my satisfaction in the end so I added a star. That wasn't easy to do though because it took calling the boss, Wayne, to get a large hole in the wall patched. The contract does state that they aren't responsible for damage to walls, but I imagined it would be minor, maybe requiring me to paint a spot, or patch a small hole. But Wayne agreed that the hole was large and sent a guy out to patch it, so that made for the extra star here. The other thing to be aware of is that they will charge you an additional $96 for troubleshooting even if you already know what the issue is. We had an overloaded outlet and asked for an additional plug, and they still charged to confirm that we had this situation without deducting this cost from the job. The other electrician we had an estimate from deducts this cost from the job, so we wrongly assumed this was standard practice. Good luck. read more

Way over priced! I was surprised at how expensive they were. I was not living in the area at the time but was getting a house ready to sell in the Glen Burnie area. They quoted me over the phone and then charged me twice of what I was quoted. I called and asked for an invoice and an explanation of charges the woman on the phone told me I would receive an answer within 24 hours. It took them one month to respond to my inquiry. Would give less than one star. Charged $350 for Sunday service. Tech spent 2 mins confirming it was a bad breaker and replaced it with a new one I had purchased. Tech was weird and intense and kept us hostage with conversation way after job was done. We called Walter Electric's office to ask for a break on the price since we'd supplied the part and it took only a few minutes (and since our experience was less than stellar). Was told someone would call back before my husband's bank account was debited. No one called and our account was debited for full price. I called back saying hey, can you look into this again? We plan to do renovations and will need an electrician. I was assured someone would call back. No one did. I just got off the phone with them again and let them know customer service is about modifying policy to fit the situation, and to keep customers happy, for a long term relationship. Was told nothing they can do. I told them they just lost a customer. Do not spend your hard earned money with Walter Electric!! read more
