Took 4 months to see Dr Walter Willoughby and confirmed with insurance they are in network. Everything went well during my only visit, onsite tests done and extensive useful info from an old but caring and professional Dr. The problem came when I was billed $1,229 dollars for the single Dec 2, 2025 visit. Turns out my insurance doesn't cover it because they are out of network. Well turns out Dr office billing used Jeff Willoughby instead of Walter, maybe the son from a different location. I tried to reach out to the billing person, Michelle, many times and have not received a callback or response. Initially the bill was for multiple visit charges and when speaking to Michelle about the discrepancy she just informed sh would remove all charges because in order to go to a 2nd appt for online confirmation all bills need to be paid. Then she said if insurance doesn't pay they will usually write off the extra charges. Well what good is it to see an amazing Dr if you have to deal with billing issues from hell from their office?? I am unable to see Dr because I don't want my bills to double on every visit. **Update** Michelle from billing researched the issue and turns out that although Dr. Walter Jeff Willoughby is covered under insurance BCBS, my coverage is under a subset called HPN (High Performance Network) , which the Dr. is not covered under and thus the billing issue. Sadly I'm not covered as the office is out of network. Dr. Willoughby is very thorough, caring, and professional, he helped me find a better medication and he will be missed. Thankfully, Michelle in billing has empathy and sincerely apologized for the issue and stress it caused me and wiped the billing clean to zero balance God bless her! read more

I was referred to Dr. Willoughby by my primary after a CT scan showed an area of concern. When I arrived, I was given several breathing tests and they did a blood gas test. After the tests, you are moved to a room where you sit and wait to see the doctor. I assume that he is going over your test results so when you're taken to his office, he knows your history and is ready to discuss the results and any issues you might have. During my first appointment, Dr. Willoughby recommended I get a PET scan to further check that area of concern. After the scan, I returned for a second appointment. The same breathing tests were done as well as a walk test lasting 6 minutes. Again, I was shown to the exam room to wait for the doctor. He had already made a copy of the Desert Radiology report of the scan to give to me. He showed me the scan on his computer and we discussed the results. Dr. Willoughby told me he was referring to me to another pulmonologist for a second opinion (those are my words). In any case, I have an appointment to follow up with another doctor to decide where to go from here. I found Dr. Willoughby to be ready to answer any question I had. He didn't hurry me and he explained things very well! It also was the first time a physician showed me an actual scan instead of just reading the findings on paper. If all my doctors were HALF as good as Dr Willoughby, I'd be a happy camper! I went with my husband to his initial visit. All the expected pre-doctor tests were performed with efficiency and in a caring, non-rushing environment. (We are both over 70 and rushing doesn't help anything). I liked Dr Willoughby immediately. He is old like us!!!. He was extremely thorough and careful. We reviewed hubby's X-ray together and points of interest were explained. Also he asked good questions about hub's place of birth, places we've lived, work history looking for environmental elements. Smart! Never ONCE did he scold Jim for smoking. I was being seen by this doctor for approximately one year. During the pandemic I didn't see him for a little over a year. When I called to make an appointment the girl at the front desk said I have to start over as a new patient because I hadn't been seen in over a year. Seriously!!??? During the pandemic many doctors didn't see patients for long periods. I said okay that's fine I'll make the appointment anyway. She then said I would have to get a referral from a regular doctor. I informed her that my insurance doesn't require that. She said that's their office policy. Wow!! This doctor has my entire history including every CT scan and MRI I've had to my lungs in the past ten years and they want me to get a referral??!! Not sure what's really going on here but I wouldn't recommend this doctor to anyone. There are many good pulmonologists in Las Vegas who would never do this to a patient. read more

Making an appointment was near impossible. Given the wrong information about insurance from front desk staff. They all seemed very unsure and lacked any real knowledge about plans they do and don't accept. I had to call my insurance, verify they were a provider, then call back to be told they have no appointments available until December anyway. Very unhelpful. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Willoughby's since 2002. He has always been kind and listens to my concerns. He literally saved my life in diagnosing my illness 17 yrs ago and sent me to Denver (NJHC)to get the best treatment. He has taken close care of my lungs ever since. His staff has always been wonderful in getting me in whenever needed or seeing my refill of medications is taken care of. Waiting in a Dr.'s office is not a problem. I know when it's my turn, he will take whatever time is needed. Wonderful doctor with a world of knowledge and staff equally nice. read more

I have found all the staff to be warm, friendly, caring, knowledgeable and accommodating. I have also recommended a friend who had been to several others and is now his patient. If you're looking for a team that is compassionate, personable and kind to their patients, This is not the place. Zero stars I called and spoke with ANGELA Dr. Willoughby's (receptionist) about booking a follow up appointment for my elderly mother with COPD (I'm her caregiver) I requested that doctor Willoughbee order a chest x-ray so we can compare it to the last one he ordered and reviewed 4 months ago. Most recently I've noticed a new loud horn sound when mom coughs that concerned me. Angela told me they would NOT order another chest x-ray. "She has COPD" she said. When I explained i was aware of that and again why I felt it would be valuable she became extremely agitated and asked why she "was even talking to me in the first place and "can't your mother speak for herself?" . I explained as a matter of fact my mother cannot cummincate well being she has had a stroke. Which the office should've been sensitive to being I met them all and explained that at the previous appointment when I brought her in. She had absolutely no consideration for my explanation, repeatedly talked over me and was extremely brash. I calmly told Angela I would review my experience online to save others from her awful customer service. She then told me I was "abusive " and an "irate person". She then hung up on me. Strange behavior right? Then I realized, Thats a very strategic way to avoid your customers feedback and complaints. Just make them out to be "irate" I told her we would not be returning she said "Great". Dr. Willoughby, your practice is only as strong as your weakest link. I waited for over an hour in a treatment room before being seen. While I waited in the treatment room, I listened to two therapists talking about Walking Dead episodes for in excess of 30 minutes. When I opened the door to see if maybe they forgot about me, I was told they'd get back to me. I continued to wait, while they talked more Walking Dead and what they each thought about Fear the Walking Dead. When I was finally seen, the respiratory therapist was good. She ran a battery of test and sent me on my way. When it came time to meet with Dr. Willoughby, I wish I had waited alone in a room for only an hour. It was easily a 80 minute wait for 5 minutes of him putting initials on the bottom of each page. My paperwork was presumably forwarded to the insurance carrier that authorized the work, then I started getting bills for tests the insurance company did not authorize. I asked for an EOB form the insurance company and called Dr. Willoughby's office. I was told the office manager was out and she's get back to me. Four days later I got a call. After 20 minutes of going back and forth, she agreed to write-off the disputed amount. Three months later I'm still getting billed. I agree with one of the other reviewers "avoid like the plague." Do not go to this Doctor! My Father was a patient and his CPAP machine was recalled. The office never called to let us know, luckily my father say it on the news. The retailer advised stop using the machine. This was in June. No one called us to tell us what to do. He called the office and some one at the desk told him to stop using the machine. Meanwhile, he has been using an old machine that he had to duct tape together. He could die in his sleep if the machine is not working as it should, which it is not. This has been months since he has been trying to get a new machine. He talked to Liz at the front desk, who said she would order it, she did not. He as even said he would pay out of pocket. We called again and Liz would check with the representative and call him back. It has been two weeks and no call. I called today and spoke to Lying Liz and she said she did all that but had no resolution. I told her she was negligent in her job, which she argued about and I told her to call me back in an hour or I would call back. She did call, still no resolution, which she could have told us weeks ago. I already made an appointment with another doctor. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!! read more

We did not have to wait a very long time to be taken in, but we did have to wait quite some time before Dr. came in to talk with us, we almost left but decided to wait and hear him out. So glad we did. Dr. Jeff spent over an hour and a half explaining in detail what his thoughts were and what we needed to do . He showed us scan results and explained in detail. If all doctors were as caring and thoughtful of his patients we would be receiving better care. I have not be impressed with medical care in Nevada but Dr. Willoughby has restored our faith . We know we are looking forward to difficult times but can be assured that Dr. Jeff will explain in detail and see us through. Older, incompetent physician who does not like to treat difficult patients. Has history of dismissing patients whose medical condition(s) is/are challenging to manage. Office staff, particularly the office manager(daughter) have caustic personalities with little regard and sensitivity for the patient's medical issues and time. While the physician does not attend patients in the hospital and is not on-call, why are office patients made to wait 30-60+ minutes for their appointment? This is simply blatant arrogance! Hopefully he will retire soon and save future patients from this level of aggravation. read more

The staff was truly amazing. The atmosphere is great for the patients. very Caring, a lot of smiles and laughing is always a wonderful refreshing experience. Dr. Willoughby was one of the coolest doctors I have ever met. I was really concerned about a nodule that showed up in a CT Scan and he sat down with me and we watched a video of the scan and he explained everything to me in great detail. Not sure why he has bad reviews on here but he went over my life and family history obviously looking for areas of concern and we have a new in dept CT Scan planned to rule out any serious issue with the spot that showed up on a CT Scan done by my cardiologist. read more
