So I might be the dissenting opinion here but I wasn't impressed. Finally went to Walter's and waited on line for a couple of dogs. The first thing I was disappointed in was that the only toppings you can get are Walter's mustard (mustard with relish), brown mustard or ketchup. Definitely disappointing. I also wanted a coke ice cream float after staring at the dessert menu for a few minutes while I waited to order. I was politely informed that they don't have soda or their machine wasn't working, or something like that. Bottom line, I couldn't get the ice cream soda so another disappointment. I had a five minute wait for my dogs and I was a little surprised they were smaller than I imagined. There was a tiny amount of mustard on them - they were ok but nothing impressive. I would bring my grandkids here cause I think the stand on the side of the road is cute and they have a sitting area right next to it but as for me I'll stick with Nathan's. read more

This is a must-stop if you're touring in the area. Well worth a detour. I'm sure I don't have to tell the locals how tasty the food is! These dogs are definitely their own recipe, nothing mass produced about them. Not overly salty! Quite flavorful, and that secret blend mustard was insane! Sorry I didn't buy a jar to go. Potato puffs: these ain't no tots baby. Hot and fresh. Unique and delicious. Prepare for long lines but it did move pretty quickly considering. Also keep in mind there's picnic tables, but no indoor seating. Good sized parking lot. Weirdest single-use bathroom I ever saw but TP was stocked, room was clean and there was soap and a quality hand dryer. I'm baffled by some of the negative reviews on here. I've been going to Walter's for 50 years and if I don't go as frequently as I used to I'd still say that there's been no drop off in quality. There may be other excellent hot dog vendors but this has always been and hopefully always will be the best I've ever had. I have been following Walter's hot dogs for while now on Instagram. So I was beyond excited to be in the same area at lunch time! I never been to the area so it was neat to see was in more of residential area and it was legit walk up hot dog stand with Asian flare... I order a double dog... With the famous walters brown mustard. They put two cut hotdogs in one bun. Along with nicely seasoned curly fries. For a drink I order a frozen watermelon drink. I have been coming to Walters since I was a kid and to me it is so much more than a hotdog place. I know I am not the only one whom has wonderful childhood memories of being brought to Walters as a youngster. It was a treat for me back then and it is still a treat for me now. Aside from a couple of new items, the menu remains as I remember it as a child. The hotdogs are perfectly fried on the flat grill with just the right amount of butter and that oh so delicious Walters mustard. That satisfying snap of the natural casing followed by the salty and tangy flavor of the beef, makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Not to be missed are the curly fries and a black-and-white shake to top it off. This is one place that I would recommend worth stopping at if you are ever in the area. My dad took me to this place as a kid so Walters holds a special place on my heart. it's is five stars for me. It also has damned good food and famous hot dogs and a quiet relaxed setting and so for me renders a perfectly objective 4 star experience but these factors elevate it. Best hot dog I've ever had, no questions. This spot has been open since 1919 and thankfully, it feels as if very little has changed. The hotdog is split in half and grilled and the bun is perfectly toasted on the griddle. I hope you like mustard because Walter's Original Mustard absolutely makes this dog. No fancy bells and whistles, just a damn good, perfectly executed hotdog. My god it was good. As soon as we finished eating, got right back in line and the 2nd one was even better than the first. I have seen good reviews and bad reviews and I get everyone has a favorite hot dog stand and yes Pinks, Nathans and all the others have hot dogs with all kind of toppings, fancy and not fancy, years in business- hats off to them. But what Walters is, is a true to form simply a great tasting hot dog, true from the very first one served, hasn't changed to please the masses, from the first hot dog in 1919 to now 2017. Why fix what isn't broke? It's a hot dog that spiced simply, butterflied and grilled on both sides. The bun is slightly grilled and then put together, has a slight smear of the spicy mustard relish sauce. BOOM! hot dog deliciousness. That's it. It's not neon green relish, fancy ketchup, pickles, hot peppers, half a pig on it, bbq or whatever, etc. its a simple down to earth hot dog that has stayed true to its humble beginnings AND THAT my friends is what I appreciate and like about Walters. I had two singles as did my husband. Fries come in one size and curly seasoned fries it was, 1 order of funnel cake fries with a light dusting of powdered sugar, which I might add were pretty darn tasty. Egg creme soda which for some is just a nostalgia thing, but for my NY born Hubby but was one really good egg creme soda. I had a large orange creamsicle shake that was perfect, not so thick that I blew my brain out trying to suck the shake through the straw or so runny it was like a glass of orange flavored milk- it was just right. I for one would still make the drive again and again- which is just short of 2 hours and I would stand in line longer then the 15 minutes we did today (Sunday) to enjoy these true to heart hot dogs. You want fancy- then go get fancy, no one is stopping you. But if you want a leisurely afternoon, sitting at a clean table under gorgeous trees with a nice breeze in a park like setting, then come to Walters Hot Dogs and enjoy a darn good hot dog with friends and family. Staff was friendly, parking was on the street and for about $25.00 we had a super great lunch. I give 5 stars for the following reasons. Food was really good, true to food authenticity of the founders roots and vision, atmosphere, price and over all great experience. It was a truly unique experience to have had the opportunity to dine on hot dogs within the confines of a historical landmark. The service was perfectly quick and friendly, and the taste of the hot dogs was unusual due to the fact that they were toasted and the sausage was cut in half. A local Westchester legend, Walter's has been grilling some of the county's best dogs for over a 100 years. Nobody knows exactly why they are so darn good, It could be the unique blend of beef, pork, and veal in the dogs. Or it could be the "special sauce" the dogs are grilled in, which I suspect includes copious amounts of butter. Either way, these dogs (served sliced down the middle) are as good as it gets. This is a Larchmont landmark for the locals and has a cult following patrons. Being directly across from a high school helps propel the myth. Delicious hot dog stand. It's been featured on Food Network, it's a Westchester institution, they also have a food truck. It's kind of a big deal. They have their own mustard which is pretty good too. The hot dogs are served a bit odd, they cut the dogs in half I guess getting a better grill on them? Maybe? It works.
