Finally tried Walter's and I am mad at myself for waiting so long. Incredibly crush-able hot dogs with their own blend of beef, pork & veal. Love that it's a no frills dog joint as well in that it's not about the toppings. You can get ketchup, mustard, chili or cheese - and that's it. The signature mustard adds a delicious tangy bite and got a black and white milkshake to share with my daughter and my husband said it was probably the best classic milkshake he's had in a long time. Walter's is a landmark and community staple. This was actually the first time visiting the brick and motor, and it was pretty cool seeing their plaque and the pictures on the stand. I ordered a simple dog with mustard, a black & white shake and a hot cider with whipped cream. Everything was great and perfect for fall. My daughter stole my shake but I got to taste it, at least. The apple cider taste better cooled down a bit. I've had Walter's before from their food truck by the Rye Playland boardwalk and have not been disappointed. I've driving nearby their permanent location and for whatever reason, have never driven past it. Now that I know where they're located, I'll be making more visits here. read more

Stopped by and a warm Sunday afternoon. Got two hotdog with everything in in order a sweet potato fries.. I mentioned to my daughter remember how we used to come here 15th or 20 times a year. Now it's my first time in a few years. The line is still on cause people still come to Walters all the time. I remember one time when I was waiting online a stranger came up to me and said why all these people online. I told him a different kind of hotdog and there's some kind of special sauce that they include in their mustard that give it a different flavor. I guess that's why people keep coming back. I always stop at the original location anytime I'm on a trip to anywhere New England but because this location was what was closest to where I was heading we landed here, plus parking right in front of the store meant that it was meant to be! Fried hot dogs just does a body good and a side of tator tots with it brings me back to all of those nostalgic tator tots loving moments in my 80's childhood. Great quick bites place! The curly fries are worth it because they give you a large portion for the price. I got the potato puffs and they were good, kind of like a small knish? Many many years ago (at least 20, probably more) I visited the original spot on mamaroneck, and hated the hotdog. It was white and an odd flavor, it tasted as unappetizing as it looked. I never could understand the line around the block. Fast forward to a few months ago, my husband was dying to go to the one in White Plains, so he did and when I saw what he got, it looked really good and I decided I'd have to give them another chance one day. Today was that day - we stopped by for lunch and got the 'small family deal'. The deal includes 6 dogs, 2 orders of fries and 1 order of either funnel cake fries or cinnamon sticks. The dogs are simple, fully split in half with ketchup and mustard (if you want), we got curly and regular fries and the funnel cake fries. Drinks and nacho dipping cheese were extra, but worth it. The hotdogs were so good!!! I didn't really like the curly fries as much as I used to, the regular fries were perfection (thin and no skin) I couldn't even put in to words how delicious the funnel fries were. Honestly we were both full after 2 dogs, but stuffed a 3rd one in. We took home all the fries, and even cold a few hours later, they were yummy. The staff is so friendly and helpful and the food comes out FAST AND HOT. They have various bun options, and deals, and many drinks from soda to shakes to beer. My relationship with hot dogs is strained. I can leave them more than I can take them, and I haven't really eaten one in about eight or so years. I do however eat sausages and wursts every now and then - go figure. Anyway, my father and brother always praise Walter's and have been going to their flagship stand in Mamaroneck for years. Additionally, the company operates another stand in Stamford, CT and a food truck which has taken residence at the White Plains Farmer's Market. This brick and mortar location in downtown White Plains is their newest location, and I felt this was a sign that I needed to break my hot dog fast and try them out. Their new location isn't too big - but the alternating light and dark color scheme with the large windows makes it the perfect size for a quick-service eatery. I skimmed their menu before stepping up to order. I noticed that they offered pretzel dogs and being a sucker for anything pretzel I went with that. I also decided to grab an order of curly fries. The hot dog was quite tasty, you can tell their make their own because it was super fresh - they split the dog open and their house-brand mustard really worked well with it (note they'll ask you what condiments you want when ordering). The fries were also good, albeit not life changing; one of my colleagues ordered the potato puffs which I liked more - think mini mashed potato balls with a crispy exterior. Overall, I enjoyed my Walter's experience and am looking forward to my next visit. They have a nice selection while remaining true to their brand. You go stand at the pick up station and everybody is pretending you're not there avoiding eye contact. These got dogs are ten rows of five stars They are small so get 3 or four I think I've become a crier when I see the last bite of my food. Incredible delectable bites of food will develop this feeling in you and Walter has managed to do that. At the first bite your eyes will widen about half an inch bigger. It has this effect. Pillow at the touch and yet crisp at the bite buttery bread sandwiching a butterflied perfectly grilled crispy hotdog w a small layer of grilled onions and mustard is perfection. I can't describe it anymore. It's preeeeeeetty heavenly. I got one cause I wanted a snack and ran back for two more and made it lunch. It's a fantastic hotdog that should open in Manhattan - like a little kiosk or something. Try it if you can! read more

I drove all the way from Hamden, CT to White Plains just to try this legendary spot and it did not disappoint. I appreciate that these dogs are grilled and not deep fried or steamed. That's how I think a hot dog should be done to bring out the most flavor. Chili was very good simply because it was a meat sauce and that is what I am looking for on a hot dog. Buns were nicely grilled which is also a must. I was particularly intrigued by the potato puffs I saw on the menu. I didn't get them on the dogs but on the side. I thought they were a mini version of a potato croquette. These were really good. Perfectly fried and just right on the texture. Not too mushy or too dry. Very clever! Fries were really good too. The fact that zero condiments were given despite being explicitly emphasized/requested twice in the order does not exactly engender good will.
