The sandwiches here are a hit or miss. I would avoid any chicken cutlet you order from here, they never serve it freshly fried, they prepare it all one day and than serve it days later after microwaving it! The breakfast and lunch sandwiches are usually on point but that's only if you DONT order it from the old lady working behind the counter. Most places layer the contents of a sandwich in a nice and neat manor, some say it's an art. This woman doesn't feel the same way. She would prefer to wrap the egg meat and cheese like a snowball, surround it in foil, sit on it, and than expect you to pay six dollars for a bunch of food that is now more of a stew or an omelette than an actual sandwich. God forbid you order anything but an egg sandwich from her in the morning or else she'll complain that she has to destroy a lunch sandwich to early in the day. I came here because a friend had recommended their supposedly amazing sandwiches. It also had good reviews. Well, this was a very disappointing experience. I ordered the a pastrami with egg and cheese on a roll sandwich which was $8.95, quite overpriced if you ask me especially considering the quality. There was one layer of pastrami and you could barely taste it. The sandwich was mediocre at best. I also ordered mozzarella Sticks that also were overpriced at $8.95, especially since they were hard and only had 5 pieces. What made it worse is that both prices were $1 more than what they have listed on their website. I also bought a bag of regular sugar, which was almost $6 (didn't check the price first because I figured it probably wasn't more than $3). They also charge 3.5% extra if you use a credit card. I used cash this time though. Maybe other people have better luck, but I wouldn't come back here nor could I recommend this place. read more

I got the Godmother hero sandwich and found it to be absolutely mouthwatering and delicious. The ham, salami and cheese combo is salty but is well balanced by the bread. The bread with sesame seeds was delectable! I usually abhor eating eggplants but the slice of eggplant in this sandwich was actually not bad. The star ingredient has to be the roasted peppers!! So plump and juicy and made an already tasty sandwich even tastier! The prices here are very reasonable. I believe the Godmother hero was ~$7 and it definitely left me completely satiated. Great lunch option for employees working in the hospital district of the Bronx! I've been going to Ann Claire's since I was a kid (My school is across the street). Even then their sandwiches were good but a bit over priced. Not much has changed. As an adult, I still go to enjoy the occasional over priced sandwich but have learned to expand my horizons. I like their stuffed peppers, fresh breads, deli meats, and fresh mozzerella. As an Italian born and raised a few blocks from here and coming here all my life, there's a certain expectation that comes along with a "fresh salted mozzarella" - and that's a soft, bouncy, chewy mozzarella with tiny air pockets, swimming in that salty mozzarella water. After eating a deli sandwich from M&R last week, I decided to finally get my butt to Ann Clair's and try something from them. I've never ordered a sandwich from them (the bf used to as well as order deli meat) so this was my first taste. They have about 18 gourmet sandwiches (as well as other items you can order) and here's what we got: -Rich Man, Poor Man ($6.25 for roll): about 20 (yes, I counted) thin slices of Proscuitto, plum tomatoes, red onions (didn't really taste any), fresh romano cheese and Olive Oil drizzled on top. On my initial bite, everything tasteful...the salty proscuitto and romano offset by the sweet plum tomatoes. But the more bites I took, the saltier and saltier the sandwich got to be. I downed the bf's diet coke and have been drinking glasses of water since then. -Cancun Club ($6.75 for hero): this is like a deluxe meat sandwich because it's filled with their chicken salad (a bit bland), bacon and ham with yellow and red onions. This sandwich was just too much and too messy. The pricing is close to M&R but a bit cheaper: a plastic bottle of diet coke retails for $1.25 (M&R is $0.25 more), there's no sales tax on sandwiches (M&R there is) and portion wise for the hero, it's longer. I think M&R has more selection of specialty sandwiches, but I wouldn't write off Ann Clair's. 3 stars because I'll have to come back and try another sandwich (as I did at M&R). read more

I'm a salt lover but when the mozerella and tomato hit my tounge without the eggplant and bread, wow. Really salty. I also wish the tomato was cut thicker. Their prices are inconsistent- can order the same item the next day and be charged a completely different price 2. While I wouldn't sell my own kidney for them, if someone else was having a 2 for one kidney sale and didn't want theirs. I'd sell theirs!
