My basement flooded so I called Color & Arches using the HomeAdvisor site which lists this business…read moreas based in Lynnewood, WA and has a photo of Shawn Moynihan on the site. It also stated it was able to do the work I needed to include mounting my flat screen TV and some other handyman type jobs I needed done. My walls had just been painted, the drywall and insulation was in place and I had just had the basement floor sealed with a marble finish for $4300. All Shawn had to do was put in the baseboards and hang the doors. I was leaving for a week so I gave him a key since Color & Arches is licensed, bonded and insured. When I returned 10 days later, I was handed a bill for $2132 and the work was only partially done. He had also hired his son to move furniture (very little since I hadn't moved in completely) for 5 hours and also his wife for 7 hours. He claimed to have worked 25 hours but had installed less than 45 linear feet of baseboard. It just got worse from there. I had invested too much time to fire him so asked him to pick up the pace. He seemed to work best when I wasn't at home and would charge me for times when he would forget something and go to the hardware store to buy it. Eventually, I told him I no longer needed him to build a closet and he was angry. He plastered two small holes in a bedroom that had been used to mount a TV but used so much plaster that the entire wall now needs to be repainted. He was not asked to do any work in that room at all. He didn't cover the vent when he drywalled so I must now have my vents cleaned and my furnace serviced. He cut the baseboards on the basement floor and left a 21 inch gash on my newly stained and sealed floor. The baseboards are poorly jointed and painted and must be removed and redone. They are not sanded. The putty job is messy and amateurish. I gave him the half gallon of A-100 paint that the painters had used the month before to paint the walls of the small room he was working on (the room is only 10'x18'). He then bought an interior paint that was the same color but a different type and it didn't match. He proceeded to paint large areas of the room and hallway with it and then told me that he would paint the entire basement for a mere $40 an hour. There was caulk all over my floor and toxic caulk left on the floor that I had to clean up before my dog could get to it. He drilled holes in my living room wall to mount the TV and missed the studs. He misread the directions on the wall mount and couldn't mount it so he had to return the mount. Now, I have a dozen holes in my newly painted living room wall and an unmounted TV. And then things got shady... He had me pay him through Paypal. He asked me to pay him through "friends and family" to avoid the fee. I don't use Paypal so I didn't realize that meant that I PAY A FEE! He then told me that he wanted to do me a favor by avoiding a paper trail. I explained that I had no problem with a paper trail and I needed receipts for my taxes. He assured me that he was indeed bonded, licensed and insured but couldn't produce paperwork but referred me back to HomeAdvisor, Angie's List and Color & Arches. He then billed me for another 23 hours (we are now at 72 hours and we still aren't done! And he's hired his wife and another friend yet again and billed me for their work!) and I fired him. I research the address in Lynnewood to discover that it's his wife's home address. I called Vernon Lovelace, owner of Color&Arches, who stated that he only has an Angie's List account: he doesn't have a HomeAdvisor account. He had no idea why Shawn would be doing this! He is willing to come to my home, see the work and make things right! That's the last I heard from Vernon Lovelace. I did discover that Shawn Moynihan has never been a licensed contractor in Washington State: EVER. I called in to Washington State Department of Labor and Industry and reported it. I also had my locks changed. I am out thousands of dollars. I am out money I paid to Color & Arches (or Shawn Moynihan) and I still have to have my baseboards removed and reinstalled, my vents cleaned, my furnace serviced as well as have my entire basement painted and my floor repaired. I am also out $300 for replacing my locks. Color & Arches is licensed, bonded and insured but I haven't seen a dime and HomeAdvisor supposedly stands behind their contractors but I haven't seen that either (this is a also a "Don't use HomeAdvisor" review). I wouldn't hire this company. They hire unlicensed contractors that are working illegally on the side and they are turning a blind eye to it. They are not standing behind their company's name or reputation. There is something very disreputable going on here. And the whole time Shawn was in my home, I had to listen to him go on and on about what a good Christian he was!! Unbelievable!

However, after…read morehe finished 50% of the work he promised to do, he raised his price and demanded that I pay him more than 50% of the total estimated price in cash. I already gave him more than 50% after he finished half of the project. I told him that because he changed his price midway, he didn't have to finish the job. (I have a handyman that can finish the small painting job of an hour.) After I told him that I no longer wanted to work with him because he changed the price (at that point, I already paid more than 50% of the original estimated price), Ben became mean, aggressive and demanded even more money from me, wouldn't leave my property, pounding on my door - made me feel unsafe at my own house. He took the picture of my house and the way to get into the backyard without asking me for permission and threatened me. He said that I would be sorry for this or something similar to that. Similar to Anna M., I had to call the police. ~~~ Not long after we had an abnormal interaction with Ben, someone drove a sedan type car and parked next to our house at 4 am (near the area Ben took pictures of our house without our permission), the thief ended up stealing things from one of our cars. ~~ Now we installed security cameras all around the house and we reported all of these incidents to the police. We live in a very safe neighborhood normally. Now we also alert our neighbors to look out for abnormal activities as well.

Extremely Unprofessional and Disturbing Experience with Benjamin Gomez…read more I had a deeply troubling experience with this contractor, Benjamin Gomez. I hired him to repair a small set of stairs and a handrail. The stairs were completed by two workers he brought in, and that part was acceptable. However, Mr. Gomez did not complete the handrail repair as promised, skipped important steps, and left the work sloppy and unprofessional, yet he demanded full payment for the partially and unprofessionally completed work on the handrails. At the beginning of the project, I paid half of the total cost as a down payment per his request. When I asked for a receipt, he claimed he did not have it with him and would email it, which he never did. He then asked me to write checks without anything in the memo line, stating it would "mix up his taxes." Midway through the work, he requested additional cash payments ($500), which I paid for materials. Again, when I asked for receipt confirmation, he promised he would email it but never did. When I repeatedly asked him for receipts or confirmation of payment, he kept making excuses and eventually refused to provide any receipts for the checks or cash he received. He also kept changing the agreed price and the agreed steps of the work throughout the project, making the entire process unreliable and frustrating. Eventually, I asked him to finish the job before releasing the final part of the payment. At that point, he showed up at our door unexpectedly, forcibly entered the house, and demanded full payment for the handrails, which in my experience were only partially and unprofessionally completed. When I explained that I could not pay the full fee under these circumstances, he threatened to hurt me and my family and to damage our home if he did not receive the payment. I made the payment online to de-escalate the situation, but as his aggression continued to rise, I told him I would contact the police. The incident was handled through law enforcement, and he quickly left, but on his way out, he damaged the handrail with the metal scraper he had brought. Based on my experience, Benjamin Gomez was unprofessional, unreliable, and threatening, and made me feel unsafe in my own home. I would strongly recommend avoiding this contractor. We waited for the window of good weather, and the team punctually and diligently completed the work in 4.5 days. The team was meticulous, clean, and careful. We did not need to say much as the quality of work and final touch ups before the walk around was so well done. The pricing was competitive and after seeing the work done, we definitely received fantastic value for the money! The team even helped to replace a broken vent cover which had an old and empty bird nest behind it! We are very pleased with the results and for the trouble-free experience. I am seeing a ton of positive things said about this company and that's great, however my…read moreexperience with Legacy Painting have not gone very well and after almost 2 months reflecting on this, I'm ready to share my thoughts. For starters we were looking to have our house painted. We had 3 estimates and based on professionalism and price, Legacy was the clear winner. 2 other positive things I'll say is the guy that wrote up the contract including repairs to the house and the gentleman who pressure washed the house were also good. This is where things get negative. The painters are Spanish and my wife and I are English and all communication was never very clear. There were days they waved goodbye and I replied "all done for the day" and they reply yes. But a few hours later they show up and go back to work. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but we have a dog that's not so stranger friendly and they opened the back gate why our dog was in the backyard. My wife tried letting the woman know "please don't come in" but she didn't understand, causing us to hastily get the dog back in the house. Other issues involving the contract to repair the house were ignored and just painted over what we paid for repairing. My wife tried reaching out to see why this had happened, but we really never got an answer. Parts of the house need another coat of paint, and as far as we know no one ever came to inspect completion and all pictures we take won't show the areas that needed extra work. The last thing I will say and what bothers me the most, we instructed days we would be out of town and didn't want anyone over for any reason. While on vacation are ring camera was going nuts and someone was walking around cleaning up. We had so many issues with Legacy my wife did try reaching out personally, but she never got a clear resolution. Talking to my wife about what we have as a finished product is very disappointing to her. She is the most reasonable person I know and is hoping to just get the paint used so we could just finish ourselves and move on.

Lied to our neighbor about killing his plants with some lie about having a relative who tests plants and chemicals blah, blah ... then turned to us and laughed. We were needing to have an older deck and open porch restained at our rental property after…read morereplacing some damaged boards. I was impressed by reading the 5 star reviews on Yelp and contacted Axel & Aaron Painting. We sent photos of the job to Kimberly (as requested) first, and received thier verbal quote from her. Since we hadn't met in-person and the quote was just verbal off of the photos, we wanted to meet them at our rental property to review the scope of work. My husband and I met at our rental property with the two owners, Pedro and Kimberly, and all went well. My husband spent considerable time with Pedro discussing the prep work needed. We felt comfortable proceeding, and even told them about our next job, in hopes that they could also do that (if all went well). But on Day 1 things did not go well. Two workers came to pressure wash, but Pedro was never onsite. The workers were done and left within 2 hours, before we could get back to the rental to see the work. It's a large deck and large porch with raijlings, and we found many areas had been missed, so we called them to let them know right away. My husband sent them photos as well showing the mildew and dirty areas that still needed more pressure washing (see some of the photos). We expected Pedro would of course want to come back out himself that afternoon, or the next day, Day 2, since the prep and painting wasn't going to start until Day 3, so there was still time. Kimberly, after receiving the photos, was dismissive and told us by phone "this is normal and those areas can just be sanded before painting". You cannot sand away, or paint over the mold/mildew they left behind. I think it would likely have taken 1 hour more of pressure washing and they would stay on track to start prep and paint/stain on Day 3 (the second day of work) but there was no response or assurance from Pedro it would be addressed. That evening they sent the bid with an extra $300 add-on for the "option" of two colors "IF" we were to decide to paint the railings white. This was the first and only written proposal, and it seemed fair, so we were still ready to proceed. We just needed confirmation from Kimberly, or a callback from Pedro that they would come back to finish the missed areas since. There was no still no reply. Instead, the next morning, we got an email as follows: "Unfortunately, we won't be able to complete your staining project as planned. As we mentioned before, pressure wash was completed. Sorry we couldn't meet your expectations.". This is very unprofessional and caused us (and our tentants) a huge inconvenience. We saw RED FLAGS, and we were beginning to question if we should go any further with them. I am certain the quality would have been shoddy.

They were responsive, friendly and listened closely to what I needed. Together we came up with a project that was priced fairly. During the project they showed utmost kindness and patience as the original bid (due to my oversight) had the incorrect number of doors, and I also added baseboards. They accommodated me with a smile and were very fair with the cost. They have the utmost level of professionalism and know-how. They work hard and communicate well. The project was completed on time and within budget. I am very happy with my new doors and highly recommend Axel and Aaron Pro Painting.

I found this really helpful and recommend it to anyone. Pam was very knowledgeable and taught me a lot about how paint looks completely different depending on the light. Again, highly recommended for anyone. Dave and Ross painted, and I don't think they could have done a better job. They are artisans with a LOT of expertise who made my condo look brand new. They are everything you want in a painter. They showed up on time EVERY day, cleaned up after themselves, and were polite and professional. They respected the work hours set by my HOA. Ross even fixed my running toilet (at no charge), which I really appreciated. Before the painting, I had some old baseboard heaters replaced with wall heaters. As a result there were some areas with holes, old paint color, etc. Dave and Ross cleaned all that up. The wall heaters look great, and you can't tell there used to be baseboard heaters. They also fixed a ton of issues I had with my trim. The flooring company who installed it didn't do a great job of joining separate pieces. Painting America took the time to fix all the joins and make it look like a single solid piece. I took bids from 3 other companies besides Painting America, before I went with them. They were one of the higher bids, but they are well worth the money. I am so pleased with the results, and when I need painting in the future I won't look elsewhere.
