I really love the new owners at Walt's. The people are friendly and helpful. The equipment is a bit outdated and the pin setters are from the 1960s, but the good food and good times make it all worthwhile. They also have a good $11 all you can bowl for 2 hours deal and a practice mode which makes it really affordable to bowl here. They have a variety of leagues available to match your skill level. I've been in or around bowling alleys since I was a stain in my father's jeans. My first job was at a bowling alley. Walt's is as classic a bowling alley as they come. There are plenty of lanes even if there was a league playing. This place is massive too. However for a Saturday night it seemed slow. There wasn't anyone in the lounge or anything else for someone to do like an arcade or pool tables. At least from what I could tell anyways. read more

I enjoy bowling occasionally, even though I'm not very good at it. This is a nice facility. The only thing that bothers me is they allow smoking inside, which I know a business decision based on the rules of the state. That's the only thing keeping me from going there more often. read more

5 stars if it weren't for the smoking. Walt's is hysterical and exactly what I want in a bowling alley. The dingier, the divey-er the BETTER! Why I love this place? Well for a few reasons... the price, the dive bar inside and the fact that no one even knows this place exists. The bar inside seems like a place locals congregate and could give a shit less about bowling which always makes me laugh. They have cheap beer at around $3 a can or a bucket of 5 domestics for $12 and you can mix and match. The also have the usual suspects when it comes to liquor - don't expect anything craft and have your order ready when you come up to the window. I also appreciated that despite looking way out of place in my all black fancy outfit that the bartender didn't treat me any differently. There appears to be a greasy spoon lookin diner inside that I am DYING to go back for. The guy working told me the lady who owns it (or runs it) doesn't cook all the time. We were here on a weekend and it wasn't open, seems weird but w/e. They have touch tunes jukebox here which was surprising to me. You have to ask them to turn it on. We had fun using it since no one else was. We had a blast and played 6 games here which was more than I have ever played in one spot. Not more than 5-6 people came the entire day! This strip mall spot is a total hidden gem. Personally I've been going here for years, I think it's just fine that people smoke in there. It's the only place to allow it, if you don't like it then you can simply go to another place it's friendly and nobody bothers you. Drinks are a bit over priced but over all they are good people. read more

This place is very old and seems outdated... but I don't care about that stuff. Bowling was the same game there as it was anywhere else. The price was 3.50 per person per game, and shoes were 2.00 a pair, so for 2 games my husband and I spent 18.00. We did go on a weekend so I'm not sure if they have any specials through the week or not. The thing that I liked about them was that it wasn't crowded. That might make some people not like it as much, but I thought it was more peaceful. Besides for my husband and I, only 3 other lanes were occupied. Other than that the woman working the counter was really nice. She even helped me, someone who never bowls, figure out how to work the machine to keep score. lol. I enjoyed myself, and if in the area... I would definitely consider bowling there again. read more

The only reason I give 4 stars and not 5 is because they allow smoking in the bowling alley and I hate coming home smelling like smoke. HOWEVER, this is a great bowling alley. People here are SERIOUS about their bowling. I am not that great, but I still have fun and it's nice to watch other people just kill it on the alley - strikes galore. Cheap drinks, cheap bowling. There's nothing fancy about Walt's Center Lanes, but it's a decent bowling alley. We ended up at Walt's after the first place we went to was full. The place smells like smoke, but that's par for the course in any bowling alley, and many places in Kentucky, I suppose. Prices were good - $3.50 per person per game, so it was a cheap date! When we started our first game, we had to use the re-set button several times, as the pins were not being re-set after I bowled. When we brought it to the attention of the front desk, they sent someone over, who basically told us that the last few lanes were a little bit older and the triggers that re-set the pins don't always function as they're supposed to. So my option was to either bowl with a heavier ball, or just continue to hit re-set after each roll. Not a big deal, but a little irritating. I don't know of a lot of bowling alleys in the area, and based on this experience, I'd be fine going back to Walt's. read more

Walt's isn't the smallest or dirtiest bowling alley in the area but it certainly tries to earn it's dive bar award. The small bar room is dark and has a tiny dance floor. You can order your drinks at the window from the bowling alley or pull up to the bar and wait for a lane to open. Walt's sits in the Newport Shopping center, one of many failing strip malls in the city. You might be surprised to find it's difficult to get a good parking spot by the bowling alley entrance, the place still pulls in a lot of people. read more

Offers everything a bowling alley should. My group of friends and I came at around midnight on a Saturday. We had no idea, but I guess every Saturday night is "Thunder bowling" which is an all-you-can-bowl special until 3:30am for $12 per person. This flat fee includes shoe rentals as well. The place had about 8 lanes open, so our party of 5 was given two lanes right next to each other. There were several technical problems during the games where a bowler had to go three times in a single round for the machine to register but overall, it wasn't too much of a hindrance for us casual bowlers. Also, each beer was $2.90 which is fair. Will definitely be back again! read more

These lanes are super fast! The lanes are kept up to shape and offer a great playing field. Bowling balls glide down these lines with ease. I was able to bowl over a 200 last night, which is very rare for me. The only down side to this bowling alley is that you can smoke inside. The place reeks of cigarette smoke, it's absolutely nauseating. Alcohol selection is good and they offer competitive lane pricing. About $4 to bowl per game and $3 shoe rental. read more

I went here with my "Little Sister" and we had a great time! I selected this place because it was so reasonably priced; I want to give back as a Big Sister, but can't afford to spend a ton of money each week. So it was great to be able to give her this experience (she had NEVER been bowling before!) without breaking my budget. We did bumper bowling which was $2.50 per game; shoe rental was $3. The staff member we talked to was very friendly and offered to take a picture to document our experience. The only sort-of setback was the smoking, but at the time we went there were few people smoking so it wasn't so bad. I can only image what it's like on a night/weekend though! My Little noticed they have a game room as well, but we didn't around to use it this time. We will definitely be back. read more

Who doesn't like to bowl? ok maybe someone with out arms but i don't count them. we played a couple of games and had a drink each. The price wasn't bad about average for bowling, however the prices for drinks were a bit high then most. the staff was friendly. No wait on lanes at either so can't beat that. We both enjoy Walt's Center Lanes, and go frequently enough that the staff recognize us. In fact, the staff is stable and does not seem to have any turnover. Most of the times, the lanes are fine, but sometimes there are problems. During the summer, the hours are shorter but it is not very crowded (a plus). During the fall and winter, getting an open lane becomes a challenge and it is suggested that you call ahead to make sure you can get one. read more

First time here and it INSTANTLY put a bad taste in my mouth. First off, this place is very out dated and it was hard to find a ball on a Saturday night... but there were not many options to begin with. Secondly, if you're not very familiar with the area it might be a little tricky to find since it's on the far end of a pretty vacant strip mall area AND it's probably the smallest sign of all the open stores in the strip and one of the words was not lit up. Typically I've always paid for bowling before a game, but here you bowl and then pay. Not a terrible size, but there's 32 lanes. My worst experience was with the lady at the bar. I simply asked a few questions about how they go about beer buckets and she instantly had an attitude with me like I should have known. Not only was this lady rude to me for asking a couple questions, but she was very rude to my friends who we were bringing here out of town for a visit. No music is played unless you pay for touch tunes. The pro to this place was that it was pretty cheap to play. read more
