Food was good. Went for lunch during the week and got a BBQ bacon burger with onion rings. Burger was well seasoned and not overly greasy, so the bun didn't get soggy. The onion rings were also seasoned well and were perfectly cooked. The service was excellent. The waitress was friendly, prompt, and made sure drinks were kept filled and we didn't need anything without hovering or being annoying. Atmosphere is okay, nice and dark but there are probably 2 too many tables in the main dining area...it would be nice for them to be spaced apart a bit more. The crowd was extremely old. I really like this place, when all of the locals eat here, you know that it's going to be good food. That's it, it's all made fresh and it's really solid good food. They have specials all week, which is a great option to try different things. I went on Monday and it was burger day, they did not disappoint me at all, and I can be pretty hard on burgers. Their beef was very good! The condiments were spot on. I would give 9/10 on the burger. My wife got the club and it was a very good sandwich as well, I got the Mac N Cheese for a side, which I really liked, it wasn't fancy at all, plenty of it! If you're looking for something over the top steakhouse Mac n Cheese it probably won't be for you. Went to lunch on a Monday to tryout Walt's famous burgers. I ordered the Walt burger with blue cheese and all the standard fixings. My friend had the bacon mushroom burger. As a treat, we went with the onion rings. I have to say, I was not impressed with either. The onion rings, though cooked appropriately, had absolutely ZERO flavor! Even with the addition of salt and LOTS of ketchup they were not worth eating. The burger was mushed and tasted greasey. They did put on plenty of pickles and blue cheese, but it was too much. I couldn't finish either, they just didn't taste very good. Probably go elsewhere for a burger and onion rings next time. On a positive note, the service was good. read more

First time here. Maps take you to the pizza place out front. This place is hidden in the back corner but worth making the effort. I ordered the Chicken Monterey. It was described basically burrito contents with two fried tortillas. My perception was way off. The server presented it as nachos which what is kinda looked like. I was very confused how to eat this. I tried cutting it and it slid off the plate. I picked at it until the juices softened up at least one of the tortillas and then went into it with a fork and knife. All the ingredients were fresh and it tasted good. We eat at Walt's at least once a week. Normally the food is excellent. I've posted a lot of reviews about them on Wichita Food, and booze. Their wings are always one of my favorites. I normally get them to go, which is what I did tonight. There has never been any problems at all. Tonight they were so burned, hard and chewy that they were inedible. I threw them away. Boy, was I surprised! The menu goes on and on, and every item sounded delicious! I ordered the Jamaican Grilled Jerk Chicken. The chicken was tender and grilled perfectly. Always liked the place but it seems like it depends on who is working which night. Some nights are very good and others are 1 star at best. It's all Back of the house that's the inconsistent issue. Fromt of the house a bunch of old gals that look like they worked at hooters back in the day. They might be pissed off or might be in an ok mood. Don't expect much from the staff but usually not a bad experience. Old folks love the place, every old alcoholic on the east side pours in at 3:30 in the afternoon to eat the daily special for dinner to save 8 cents. They used to have really good daily specials but anymore it's a joke. They should just get rid of. Saving less than a dollar is not a special. Always regulars, some are there daily. How? I had dinner here twice, no problem. Tonight i traveled across town for their special tonight. Chicken breast, with noodles over mash potatoes. 2 Blondes working behind the bar, one took my order. I said give me the special and a coke. My dinner comes out and its a bowl of chicken noodle soup with a biscuit floating in the middle of it. The small spoon slide into the soup and disappeared. I told the bartender this is not the special. She said it was, and this is what the kitchen gave her. I had a few more words with her and she was adamant that was the special. I gave up and ate the noodles with a fork, after i was done, i pushed the bowl of liquid to the edge and she asked if I wanted something else. I said yes, give me the special you have advertised. They hustled, service was slow but they were just short staffed. If you want to watch sports, there are better places, if you want fried and/or home style cooking (meatloaf/chicken fried steak) this may be your place. The atmosphere was beautiful and inviting.. but the service was much to be desired. The waitress acted like she did't have time for us. Whisking away before I could order a water with my alcoholic beverage. And upon receiving that alcoholic beverage. Mixed drink .. I could barely drink my drink without wincing. Both me and my guest could barely get the drink down they added so much liquor.. we actually had to order a side soda to add to our drink. Then when the waitress took our order my guest didn't want her side salad that came with her dinner. I said to the waitress I'll take her side salad. The waitress turned to me and said you already got a side and scoffed .. and walked away.. I have never felt so uncomfortable with a waitress before, and I was one for 15 years. They both were super soggy mine more.. like they took the grease and just poured it over the hamburger.. yes shroom burgers are greasy but not completely soggy all the way threw. So many Walts. So many burgers. This is #5 in an investigation into the story behind the mysterious Walt, and the multitude of burgers he left behind. It's easy to forget about the east side Walt's Bar and Grill. Tucked away behind the Piccadilly, Walt decided to up the ante when building his east side B&G by giving it a big ol' dose of the Old Glory, deeming it not just All-American, but GREAT American. If you ask me, the only way you could make Walt more All-American is if Mom was in there baking me an apple pie in the shape of a baseball, but for those doubters out there, they decided to put it right in the name of the place, too. Is this Walt's more American than the other four locations? In a way, yes. Though in a better, more accurate way, no. No it isn't. This one has even more of a menu than the west-side location, including daily specials. But of course, I had to stick with the old standard - the cheeseburger. Not just a cheeseburger, but a CLASSIC cheeseburger. Interestingly, the menu claims this burger has retained the "classic" qualifier since 1947, which is interesting because it's the same year as the drive-through restaurants claimed their burger was invented. Could it be that in actuality all of these restaurants can be traced back to one single Walt - an excellent restaurateur, regardless of how bad he was at naming his restaurants? Or even scarier - what if Walt, in fact, DOESN'T EXIST, but is rather just a collective figment of imagination, a fairy tale about a legendary burgerman that achieve some level of notoriety in the late '40s, whose story was passed down from two generations and has perpetuated ICT's collective conscious so much that we never stopped to ask who this Walt character really is? The menu stated the grounding of the beef was done in-house, though I kinda doubt it, as the quality wasn't top-notch, though the 1/3 patty wasn't overcooked and was seasoned (not aggressively, but enough to round out the flavor). Standard MPO accouterments, but Walt's East goes the extra mile to grill the onions, which I greatly prefer over the raw. The smaller patty and better cooking of the beef left me with the greatest impression from a Walt's burger yet. Fries were still made from scratch, and still greasy enough to turn my wax paper basket liner into a transparent mess. These fires were salted quite well, and I got a hint of a little acidity when I took my first fry. A quick dash of apple cider vinegar? A squeeze of lemon? A cross contamination from another diner's food? Carryover from the Tallgrass Halycon I was drinking? All quite possible. The essence was fleeting, though the salted fries were more than enough to propel them to the top of the list regardless. Like the Walt's B&G on the other side of town, the menu is more than you would expect from a place like this, and the crowd was completely dominated by the faces of regulars with whom the bartender knew their names and drinks as soon as they arrived at the bar. They still made me feel welcome, though. After five Walt's and five burgers, I would be inclined to say that Walt's East beats the bunch in terms of taste, but I doubt anyone is going out of their way to eat at any particular location (especially that one on south West). They are what they are, and since 1947, people have been going to whichever one is closest to them at the very moment they decide to eat at Walt's. It's not about the place, but the people you're with, and maybe that's what Walt - in all of his infinite wisdom - wanted people to learn all along. Rest in Peace, Walt. Place is an old style bar bar and grille, the menu is pretty basic meat and potatoes,which is perfect for a steak dinner. Our party was relatively large - about 7-8 people - so you'd think the waitstaff would be happy about a large check and tip. Not so much. Good cozy neighborhood bar with a bunch of regulars. The mini tacos were way too hot, the turkey bacon Swiss was delicious. Outside seating for smokers. The environment was laid back super casual come as you are. Apparently this place hosts many of the local small business owners. I had excellent conversation with Marty who owned a local fence company and had 2 beautiful biracial daughters. Did I tell you that they have fried veggies!!! Only downside is the space is tight. Holy shit! This place was slow as shit! We went for the "special" steak night! Salad looked and tasted like the graves a head of lettuce and threw it on a plate! The stake was decent! The service was absolutely 100% the worst! She grabbed a box for me while my girlfriend was in the restroom and we didn't see he for 30 minutes, not a joke! I timed it! Then we got the bill and it's $2 off the normal steak prices on the "special" when asked, the sever said "no price is given so it's whatever price we have"! Do not go there!
