Walt's is the ultimate one stop shop. You can easily get in and get out and find all your household needs for great prices. They are open from 8am to 7 pm, seven days per week. The store is often clean, well lite, clutter free. The employees are friendly, service is fast, and the parking is plentiful. Given the circumstances, there's a limited quantity of essential items, however, they are my favorite store for fresh produce. Customers are not permitted into store without masks and Hand wipes are available. I have been a custom for over 20 years, and I have observed Walt's transform into a more friendly and welcoming establishment. Walt's is a staple for shopping in the suburbs. read more

Small, convenient, community store! Butcher, deli, florist & bakery on site. They close kind of early (7 or 8 depending on day), but you get used to it. They have a pretty good selection - not great for speciality diets or organic though. Jim is the best service center employee ever. Some of the staff is a bit fussy, but most are good. It's kind of just the vibe here...a little snooty, but very kind of community groups and locals. read more

Really like this Walt's ... in fact it is better than the Tinley Park location we used to visit before they closed down. Anyway, while it is a few miles farther away, it is a stellar grocery place. This Walt's has all the usual things you'd find in a typical grocery store, but here the shelves are stocked and blocked and fronted ... seems like management has their priorities in the right place. The store is very clean, and the employees are very friendly. The selection of meat/fish items is exceptional. Many outlets today don't have on site butchers ... the stores buy precut meat and repackage it with their name. While I am sure some of that happens at Walt's, they have a real live butcher also doing his thing, and it is a nice addition. Also unlike some other places, the selection of fish and lamb and beef is very broad. Many items are on the shelf and you do not have to special order. All in all this Walt's in Homewood was excellent. We'll continue riding out here o do our shopping as they have some of our local shops beat handsdown. Try it. read more

The last three times visiting the store my deli meat was not cut to the slicing I asked for, I see the under staffed sign but I'll take slow service if I get what's requested. I also find it hard to get gluten free crackers which many more people are gluten free these days. In general I feel like Walt's isn't keeping up with some of the other grocery stores. I've been shopping at Walt's Grocery Store for over 20 years. It's my preferred grocery store in the area because the fresh produce are usually on sale for a great price. The customer service is average, but it has improved over the years. In the past, minorities were not welcomed here at all, but the neighborhood demographics have changed. Some of the younger cashiers need to learn social skills because many fail to speak or say thank you at the end of the transaction. The store is well stocked, but I feel that it is not very clean. Recently, I was standing in the aisle and a mouse ran past my feet and scared me to pieces. Also, I don't like the smell of the meat department. It smells like death. read more

I stopped going to Jewels and Ultra as soon as I found out about Walt's food. The place is nice and clean, the people are nice and friendly as well as helpful. The produce is fresh and the carry most of everything the otherbstoresncarry and a few extra things the other stores don't. The alchol isle could be way better, specific liquor like Ciroc I have to go to jewels to get. One thing is if you want to get something from the baker or the meat counter go during the afternoon, because around 7pm those places in the store are closed even though they are open Monday - Saturday until 9pm. And IMF your getting fruits or Vegetables don't go at the last hour because most of the produce is put away in the back. Some of the quality of meat is not as good as the meat from ultra, some meat like the short ribs and pot roast come out a little tough when you cook them compared to short ribs or pot roast I get from Ultra. They also very rarely have pork chops with the bone in them, they always have the thick cut center pork chops which I do not fry with. I'm always in here every other week or so getting groceries. And the best part is that they are always having sales and you don't need a special card to get the sale either which is really nice and convenient. read more

I shop at Walts in dyer its near my home. Yesterday I ran in to get a few essentials. I was concerned as I shopped that I would see an individual with NO MASK ON. When I went to check out the man in the lane next to me had no mask, The man in front of me had no mask. When it was my turn I asked the cashier "Arn't mask Mandatoury she said only for the employees. Excuse me but a mask prevents you from giving me the virus,. On August 18th 2022, I went to Walt's to purchase Pepsi that was on sale 4 for $12 for myself and my disabled brother. There was no quantity limit posted. I proceeded to fill my cart with 8 for me and 8 for my brother. The woman at the costumer service counter yelled,"ma'am, there is a limit of 8." I said,"okay." So I fill the cart with 8, paid and took them to the car. I went back in and filled the cart with 8 more for my brother and she screamed at me,"hey, no you can only get 8 a day!!" She was so nasty! I said where is this posted on you signs? There is no limit stated on them! She said,"We have the right to reserve quantities." I said,"listen I have a brother who had a foot amputated and just almost died from Covid, he cannot shop. I am picking up pop for him and me. You are doing this to be a bitch." She said,"If I do it for you, I have to do it for everyone else." I said,"no you need to post the proper signage to support what you are saying." She threw her hand up and said,"whatever, I don't care, I'll do it this time but never again." I said,"You don't have to worry about that because I will never come here again and there is nothing wrong with being nice." This didn't sit right with me because when she started screaming at me, all of the cashiers and customers that were checking out stopped and stared at us. I decided to call the store manager, Mike on the morning of August 19th. She already filled him in that I called her a B**ch, when I actually said she was being one. Anyway, I explained what happened. He said it was inappropriate for me to call her a b**ch, to which I explained it was just as inappropriate for her to be screaming at me. He stated he would talk to her and he apologized. I told him that me nor my family would never shop at Walt's in Homewood again. This happened to be the nigh manager that treated me so poorly. I told the manager that she does not belong in customer service and should not be working there. I hope if any of you shop there, you will have second thoughts about going back. It is Christmas Eve. My wife asks me to stop at Walt's to get a box of wine. I call them and ask when they close. She responds at 6. I say, "thank you," and guess what happens next: A) Thanks for calling B) See you soon C) Ok. Merry Christmas D) Click I get to the Crete store at 5:54. A manager bringing in carts yells at me, "We close at 6." I said, "Yeah, I know." He then yells: A) Thanks for shopping at Walt's. B) Just thought you should know, sir. C) Merry Christmas. D) On the dot! The answers to both are both "D." The Walt's employees in the Crete store are usually not rude, but they are not very friendly. A smile is rare. I am used to deadpan cashiers. And, if the manager talks to a customer (who comes first) like that, I can only imagine how he talks to employees. To be treated like I am a pain on Christmas Eve was too much. So here I am. Advice: next year if you want to go home at 6 "on the dot," formally close at 5:45 to informally close at 6. And please ask your people to please pretend they like working there. The Homewood, IL is a medium-sized grocery store (somewhat difficult to find in today's world where most stores are super-sized). They have a wonderful bakery and stock the Best Choice brand which is a real money-saver. They have a very good frozen food section which includes hard-to-find items. I believe they may have a pharmacy which I have never used per the requirements of my healthcare insurance. They do stock gluten-free items and food for those who are vegetarians. Their app is a very comprehensive one and works very well. Next time you visit make sure that you have it downloaded onto your cell phone. This particular Walt's is utilized by a lot of older people and the availability of staffpeople and customers willing to assist them in reaching and finding items and just making sure that they are OK is appreciated. The people who work check-out are quite professional and the people who bag the groceries always get the separation of items into separate packaging right - this does not always happen at comparable stores in the area. I have been in the area since 2005. Yesterday I want to my favorite neighborhood grocery story, Waltz in Homewood. Well I experienced a different type of register and bagger. Instead of saying hi, then the bagger saying 'paper or plastic', I got silence. They didn't ask or care. They put all items in a plastic bag. Not much of a thank you. With this type of customer service, I would rather do a self check out. Something you may want to conisder Waltz in the near future...or re-train. The workers were in their late teens to early 20's. Very clean and well organized this is my first visit here and I must say customer service is awesome. They actually speak when you walk up to the register. I went in to price the catering options for a party we are having at work. Compared to Jewels I will go with Walt's I was able to taste what I was getting catered. Just recently moved to area and Walts in Homewood is very close for me, very friendly employees but one problem I have is that they do not rotate their shelf items, example is the bread, one Saturday I went to that department and I buy the 1/2 loaf so as not to waste and all of them were moldy, also went and bought an apple streudal from bakery and brought it home and was miss labeled wasn't even apple and it smelled bad, took it back to store for refund. Some of the employees in deli are rude cause once I asked the woman when the grilled chicken legs are coming out and it was about 10:00 am and she said" We are short staffed when I get around to it. read more

This store is a rip off. They're selling prepared salad. So beautifully decorated and the price is so good to pass $1.99 with lettuce, tomatoes, eggs, onion, croutons etc. So we bought it. When we opened it at home, the bottom part are all brown and old lettuce topped with the fresh one. I should know better. So, if you happen to go to this walts at Homewood, don't be fooled with their fresh food that's packed. It's not all fresh. They just hide the old underneath to sell it. I know we live in 2017 and racism is still prevalent, however I have never experienced it until today. Staff are very unfriendly. This is my 2nd time shopping here. My shopping 1st experience here, looking back, I received the same unwelcoming attitude, but in a subliminal manner. Today, it was blatant. Me to an older white lady in the deli department: "good morning." The older white lady stares at me. Me again: Good morning. " Older white lady, continues to stare directly at me. I then revert to signing good morning, because I'm thinking maybe she is deaf. Still no reciprocation. The Crete store is the best. Mary Jo and Trudy are 2 of the top cashiers, while Pamela dishes out honey from the booth. Karen runs a tight deli, but the chicken salad is over priced. Several days ago I was in the meat department and saw employee Jimmy talking with 2 people who looked like higher ups in the company, behind the counter. Jimmy was loudly talking about himself having a bad sore throat. Yesterday, 7/15/22,9:40am, I stopped by Walt's Food Center to pick up a couple of things. I went to check stand #10, 15 items or less check stand, saw Jimmy where the customers stand to pay for food items, loudly talking to the cashier. I heard him say that he was told others he knows tested positive for covid, so he decided to get tested, and he has tested positive for covid. I quickly exited the area of check stand #10, and went to check stand #6. I then saw Jimmy had pulled his cloth mask down to his neck, so his face had no mask covering it as he walked through the store's main isle, walking slowly leaning on a shopping cart, looking very ill. He was walking toward the meat department where he works. Virus is contagious. Disappointed to see an ill, contagious employee there exposing others! read more

I can't say much for the grocery store itself, as I haven't done any grocery shopping there, but this review is for the in-store bakery, and it is AMAZING!!!!!! This shop is definitely out of the way for me, coming from Downers Grove, but I had an appointment in the area this week. Months ago, I had marked a Facebook photo on Chicago's Best FB page for their glazed crossiants. I grew up on glazed crossiants out west, but for some reason, they seem to be few and far between in Chicagoland. Walts has them, and they are the things dreams are made of. Seriously so, so, so good! We also tried an apple fritter while there, and it was one of the best I've ever had - and certainly the best I've had in Chicago. I cannot wait to go back next time I'm in the southern burbs. This place is definitely a throw-back to the 50's, but there was something strangely comforting - kind of retro, without trying too hard. I recommend the Walt's Bakery for anyone's baked needs. My son ordered his birthday cake with the following: yellow cake, fresh strawberry filling, and whipped cream icing. Walt's provided just what we required and was able to produce what we wanted for the most part. The cake was beautifully decorated and personalized for my son. The cake was moist, the whipped cream fresh, the strawberries were tasty too! HOWEVER the filling had more strawberry preserves than strawberries. Before my family presented the cake to celebrate my kid's birthday, he had seen a cake at church that he'd asked me about. Yes, the cake was just like the one he'd requested- EXCEPT for all that jelly or strawberry preserves that filled the center of the Walt's cake. The bakery gives an option of strawberry or preserves as a filling. I paid for strawberries. If there was a problem with not having enough fruit, I think that should have been communicated rather than simply done without mentioning it, allowing that to be our "surprise". That seems rather shady, or disingenuous. So, I still would recommend the bakery; I would just advise that you be specific about what you want and what you don't want. read more

Walt's has the best produce, fresh and an excellent variety of vegetables and fruits, in addition to its fresh fish + meat counter, all which makes me a fan. I also like their $5.00 weekly coupons. BUT their selection of other products can be limited and expensive vs. let's say Jewel and definitely higher than Target. Walt's is frequented by senior citizens because of its location so they really should consider stocking products that include senior needs and tastes. For example, UNSALTED peanut butter and other like products. I also like their check-out lines which aren't crowded, so one can zip in and zip out of the store quickly. The staff is generally friendly. It's a good store, glad they are in Homewood, but it needs more variety of products and lower prices. read more

I love Walt's Bakery. I always go there for their bakery. They also have good prices on all their products. I've got a lot of meat from their Deli and the quality of meat is good. The only thing is that sometimes the Cashier and most of the other workers are not very welcoming and they really don't acknowledge you all the time when you approach the register. I don't know, someone also commented on that earlier so I won't get deep into but I thought it was just me for awhile. Anyway, it's nice to go shopping there. read more
