I am SO glad we randomly found this gem! We saw the building and immediately threw on the turn signal to go. A line of people on the sidewalk and families/ groups of people filling all the picnic tables- it had to be good, LOL. Most certainly didn't disappoint! Shame! Shame! Shame! I lived in Shorewood for 9 years and never gave Walt's a chance. My husband suggested it a few times and I shot him down! It wasn't until we moved away that I stumbled across this gem. Such a travesty! Walt's soft serve is sooooo good! My favorite is the strawberry vanilla swirl. Mmm mmm mmm. I've heard good things about Walt's. I recently heard they were closing for the season 10/15/19 and didn't want to have to wait for 2020 to finally try them. Today was National Dessert Day, so after finishing a delicious chicken sandwich at Beef Shack, I took a stroll down the street. I was in the mood for a chocolate shake. The kid made it too thick, couldn't suck it through the straw for 15 minutes, I wasn't given a spoon. I prefer a shake you can suck through a straw vs a frosty. I do love there's such great history here, serving smiles since 1926. I'll certainly make a return visit in March of 2020 for the start of their 94th season. Their sundaes look legendary. read more

Not sure why Walt's gets such a great rating. The real ice cream ( not the soft serve) has to be some sort of cheap concoction, it doesn't melt, it just gets gooey. The "whip cream" is not real, it is also some kind of cheap concoction. I do not recommend it and will not go back. read more

I LOVE this place. I wish it were closer to where I live. The vanilla soft serve is FIRE! The portions are humongous! This place fed my family of 4 for $15 with a root beer float, a brownie sundae, a strawberry milkshake, and a vanilla soft serve. We enjoyed EVERYTHING and will come back here anytime we're in the area. The ice cream is so good, definitely deserving of the Best Ice Cream in Will County award. Heck... I love their ice cream more than any of the ones I've found in DuPage. The only other ice cream I've enjoyed more taste-wise is Jeni's, but come on.
