From counselors to campers to parents, everyone is welcomed like family. We were initially nervous sending our daughter away for three weeks that first summer, but on her first phone call home, she BEGGED to stay the full six weeks. Camp has structure, but it's structure inside a framework that's different from home or school. At K&E, the kids have a safe space to grow in ways we didn't even realize were possible. The diversity of activities allowed him to break out of his comfort zone and try new things. The cabin set up created an instant comradery that made it easier for the kids that were attending by themselves. They are such a great group of young adults that work together to make the experience for the kids life altering. For example, after the camp there was a noticeable change in our son's confidence. WLC is a traditional summer camp. If you are looking for a camp for your son to become a soccer star, this isn't it. If you want a place for him to go to make friends, explore the outdoors, and be active, WLC is perfect. Each week campers signup for the morning classes of their choice. In the afternoons, they are given a "free swim" period when they can wander the camp and do whatever they want. From swimming to archery or rock climbing, there are dozens of options. The staff is a mix of longtime staff, former campers, and international staff. The international staff are a constant source of vibrancy, introducing the boys to rugby, cricket, and other culture. Former campers are allowed to grow into responsibility as staff. Longtime staff like Nat Crane and Scott "Goose" Giessler keep the traditions alive. This sums it up best: every time I'm in the area, I return to camp for a visit. When I do, I'm welcomed with open arms and a smile. It is a classic summer camp experience for them, with swimming, boating, other sports, woodworking, climbing, ropes courses and ... no phones. There are horses as well, archery, fencing. All of it. There are rituals and routines that get repeated from year to year, a made up currency, and end of session fair. It is exceptionally well managed and the counselors, mostly college aged kids from Europe and Mexico, are open and friendly and get good reports from our kids. Now that they've been twice they have friends from the previous year. As we reluctantly hand back the phones we're grateful they've had this experience.

Overall takeaway: Tripp Lake Camp is a lovely and sweet place, with long-standing traditions, and filled with bright-eyed and confident girls having fun. There was a lot of positive energy, and purposeful intent. My wife and I are glad that we took the time to drive up to Maine, and grateful that our daughter had this positive experience/introduction to overnight camp. Leslie, Janet and Stacy were all incredibly warm and welcoming, and our daughter said that the counselors and other girls she met made her feel safe and at home. She also had a lot of fun, made a few friends, and was excited that she was able to participate in some of the Tripp Lake camp traditions (including lots of singing, and a play put on by some of the other campers). After picking her up Sunday morning, our daughter told us that she definitely wants to go to Tripp Lake for the full summer next year. We took her to visit a few other girls camps in Maine after finishing Rookie Weekend, and all were quite nice. We decided to stop by Tripp Lake again before driving home, and were fortunate to come during "sing song" practice, and to see a camp meal where the girls were all singing. We got a good sense of the camp spirit. Thank you again to Tripp Lake for giving our daughter such a wonderful first overnight camp experience.

Worked here, woke up at 7 AM; curfew was at 9 but never got to sleep until 10PM and had to stay in…read moreif I was on duty watching kids. Not a bad lake and amenities, food was alright but was working during meals. From the 2 sessions I signed up for (2 months give or take) only got assigned 5 nights and 5 full days off. Promised that if we were on duty we would have help (2 people on duty at any time), but their coverage was lacking resulting in one staff member having to watch 8 kids at a time. First time at a summer camp job, but I can't believe how low the bar was when it came to health and first aid. Kids were puking and vomiting, getting rashes, and getting sick. Their response was giving them a puke bag, brushing it off, and/or giving them a break at the health center for a day and then sending them back right out. The nurses on-site slapped band aids and gave lollipops while real practitioners that came by every now and then just confirmed you weren't "that sick". I was horribly sick. I caught it from one of my kids and only given ibuprofen and 2 days at the health center. No tests for Covid or the flu and I probably had one or the other (maybe both how would I know). Had a horrible fever but my 100.3 degree internal temperature was just under their 100.4 degree mark to stay in bed and so I was sent back to work. Tried wearing a mask but I was discouraged for whatever reason? I suppose they would rather let me spread the actual disease rather than let me spread hysteria among the staff and kids. Staff checked up on me every now and then showing surface-level concern but once I announced that I had to leave early because I felt horribly sick they stopped asking and they were also evidently pissed off. Was promised 2800 for staying for the two full sessions but after only one session was given 850 (400 of which was my travel stipend to cover the flight to the camp). If I had been given the right amount of care and medicine I would actually still be there by now. I cared about my kids and I appreciated the environment but all of this was to more or less say that after checking in to an urgent care yesterday I can confirm that I have pneumonia. Do not work here if you can get sick, prefer not to work while being horribly ill, have any sense and perception of others' health and well-being, and if you want to get paid well for your time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears.
