I am writing this letter as a request to honor and recognize one of the best nurses I have ever encountered. On February 18,2020 I was admitted for a traditional Gastric Bypass. Everything seemed standard until I came out of surgery. Obviously, not knowing what pain to expect I brushed off the feeling I was experiencing as "normal". I was blessed to have a very kindhearted nurse, Sarah Taylor, for the night shift. She was extremely patient and observant of my needs. Little did I know this keen eye to observation would save my life. That night I rang the call bell and was in extreme pain. She rushed in to evaluate me and realized something had become very wrong. I was going in and out, but I remember seeing a ton of nurses and CNAs arrive in my room concerned. Sarah reached out to my surgeon believing I had a leak or was bleeding internally. Both of which are life threatening. Because of her confidence in medical training, she was the main person who ensured my surgeon came back on site and preformed a 2nd emergency surgery. She was able to keep me calm and remained confident during the entire process. I knew coming into this surgery, the risk of death averages around 1:300. I never thought I would fall into that statistic. If it wasn't for her; I may not be here today. I am a mother of 3 little girls and knowing she did everything in her power to keep me here with them means more than I can ever express. It's hard to write this without becoming emotional. Nurses are often overlooked and treated poorly by patients. This is the least I can do to say thank you for her saving me. This Dr. was the one to provide medical care and treatment if need be to my Dad. July 30th he went to the ER with symtoms of dizziness and overall weakness that has been going on for quite sometime. Dad had been to see a doctor that checked his heart. He received a good report where his heart was concerned. He also had a test done to see if he had a carotid artery blockage, that was a good report as well. He went home, glad that these 2 tests were good, but still wondering what could be wrong with him. Now I should say my Dad is almost 85 years old. He has been a "young" 85 year old and very active until this episode. After being checked into the ER he was told he would get a cat scan. He had a cat scan done with contrast. When DR. DAVID F. GOLDBERG, MD came in to examine my Dad, mind you all records were available to the Dr. he told Dad that he just "had a bad heart" (he just had a test all is well with his heart) and that he was "just old," and "that's the reason why he's feeling this way," and he "should not even have come to the ER." When you call your doctor after hours, they tell you if you're having a medical emergency to go to the ER I would consider lightheadedness to the point of passing out a medical emergency. I wonder, did the doctor even look at his cat scans that he had done that day in the ER.? You can imagine how this made us all feel that my Dad was pushed aside in this way. NOW! Monday morning 8/3 Winchester ER called Dad and said he has a blood flow issue in his head. And now needs to see a Vascular Surgery group to see what needs to be done from here. There are some very nice and caring doctors in Winchester ER. but DR. DAVID F. GOLDBERG, MD is not one of them. His lack of empathy is unbelievable! I don't care how much education or qualification you have, the most important thing is the care and concern of your patients to make them feel heard and safe. DAVID F. GOLDBERG,MD showed my Dad none of this and shewed him out like he was of no importance. DAVID F. GOLDBERG,MD you should be ashamed. You have no business treating patients. For the Emergency Department severe nosebleed and a dr snuck up on me and slammed a rhino rocket up…read moremy nose so hard she slammed my head backwards. I said no rocket. Got home then couldn't see out of right eye face swollen nose swollen and couldn't breat through my nose so I returned and the nurse told me to leave as no doctor was going to see me and she got in my face. No one touches me without my self defense so I stood my ground being the only person in the ER. Saw a Dr who said that he didn't give a damn if I sat there and bled to death. Another time I was as held down by a nurse and given 10 mg of ketamine and I was screaming no, hallucinating and screaming couldn't move my legs trouble breathing ripping stitches for procedures to fight her off to no avail. My roommate who is former Army stepped outside of the curtain 2 feet and said I wasn't breathing well and needed help and this female dr shoved him from behind into the room I witnessed her stick out her left leg grab him by his puffer coat with her right hand huge shove with her left hand on his shoulder from behind him and spin him hard slamming and bouncing his head against and off the wall then he fell over a chair and his hands and knees were on the floor. this man was 76 now 79 years old and he had her arrested. I testified to the truth but the judge said " I'm not going to say she didn't do it, I'm not going to say she didn't do it. I'm saying that the severity ( of the assault) is not enough to justify her losing her house her car and her job because she needs her job to pay for her house and her car" and she went free, back to working at Meritus ER. I was taken to Meritus ER by ambulance in 10/24 and being discharged refusing narcotics couldn't walk due to spinal stenosis paralyzed me from the waist down with nerve damage crying with nerve pain and this man charged into my area screaming loud "shift change now I'm in charge", (4 am was not shift change) pointing his finger inches from my face and the man with me sitting there I screamed for him to get out but he kept it up. He said for me to get the hell out of his hospital right now or he would put me in a nursing facility, I screamed back that he had no medical power of attorney over me, never said who he was so I thought he was a mental patient on the loose , I screamed so loud at him to get out that finally he left. I left the hospital quickly being dragged down the hall by my male friend to the car in fear for my life. I reported him to EMTALA but again he was back working at Meritus so I was told. Sinai operated for this with a lamenectomy and a CSF leak which is brain leak tie off at L4-5. I had a civil rights violation stemming from terrifying visit with the male at Meritus Pain Management and the state police said thats grounds for arrest but the judges just let these Meritus doctors go so why bother? I could go on and on about the abuse I suffered at the hands of Meritus doctors BUT 1/26 I am eligible for new insurance coverage that allows me to go to big city hospitals so never again will I go to the Meritus Medical Center ED in Hagerstown MD. I would like to end this by saying that in 09/24 my heart rate went up to 175 due to nutritional malabsorption, another Meritus dr who made a huge mistake in the department of gastroenterology. Meritus cardiologists diagnosed me with atrial fibrillation and said get a heart ablation. I went to Baltimore and there is not one EKG OR ECG in this state of Maryland proving I ever has the diagnosis and if I had the ablation I would have died and this was told to me by a Baltimore cardiologist/electrophysiologist who took the time to track down all this information and called me on a Sunday morning with his grave concerns in a panic. He is qualified to perform heart ablations and remains to be the only doctor that I will see again for my heart, never Meritus again for any cardiologist. Meritus did build a baseball stadium and parking garage but how does this enhance the horrible conditions in the hospital for patients like me as I'm not the only one, far far from it. These doctors with a specialty practice just keep doing wrong then the letters come kicking me out of their practices. I certainly wouldn't return to an abusive doctor but that letter makes them look good, or should I say stupid even when some violated my HIPPA laws!Many people have talked to me about worse treatment & no lawyers taking their cases and I'm one. As soon as we say Meritus to a lawyer they're too busy. I have called many lawyers including in DC and Baltimore to be told no quickly. Meritus is no longer number one in Maryland and an employee said to me that they deserve to be number one and cannot find out who number one is but they will! I went there as an ER patient and I had a long wait until a…read morenurse came to do the preliminary exam, either because the place is understaffed and just stupidly run. I called for a drink of water and never got it. Eventually, a doctor came to see me, told me I could leave, but did not remove my IV. I asked a nurse if she would remove it. She said no. I proposed to remove it myself, she threatened to call the police. Supposedly, drug addicts remove the IV for illegal use. I am 78, I have never used illegal drugs. My record is pristine. It was insulting to be lumped with lawbreakers. After making six calls for help, I should have called the police because I was being held against my wishes. An irate nurse materialized after the seventh call. She told me off for expecting service, informed me that I was not her only patient, and generally acted in an abusive and unprofessional way. I've called the patient's advocated twice to register a complaint. I don't expect a response. I will just forward this review to my lawyer. I'd give this place a Zero rating, if it were available.

After sitting for an hour they called me back to get my vitals but don't seem to care what my problem is either. I was literally in the middle of explaining how I feel and happening to me and the lady just cut me off and started asking me there check box questions like do you feel safe at home, do feel suicidal, what medications, then was just like go back out and sit and someone will come get you. 45min and still sitting. Glad I'm not having a stroke or heart attack. They treat you like a box on a conveyor belt that needs scanned and that's all.... don't come here! Update: after sitting the ER waiting room for almost 4 hours, I went to the front desk to ask a question. I let them know I was here because my doctor wanted me monitored In case I had a stroke or heart attack. Their response was sorry we are busy and we don't know when we can get to you and that I could just leave if I wanted... how is this place not shut down.

When you enter the ER at 10:15 on a snowy winter Saturday night, the result can be a complete…read morecrapshoot. Logic would dictate that a quiet night would mean a quick, attentive visit...but that pesky trauma case that arrives simultaneously can certainly kick that plan on down the road awhile. Which it did. I certainly hope the patient is doing better today, but his visit certainly taxed the ER'S staff on this night. 5 hours later, my son and I were back in the car. That said, I have no doubt to as to the quality of are we received. The receptionist and intake nurse were kind, the technician was great, and the doctor was appropriately apologetic, and did a fine assessment of my son's injury. He gave the scans I felt necessary, answered questions well, and had a good bedside manner with my 10 year old. The facility-from what I saw of it - appeared clean and fairly modern. I have no reservations in going there again, but truth be told, when I'm in the area on vacation again, I hope I don't have the privilege of visiting this fine establishment again. Went to ER at 5:30 pm on a Monday. Parking at ER was full so I parked at the main open lot. Just a…read morelittle bit to walk to the ER door in pain so I took it slow. Immediate triage and into a private exam room pretty quickly. A real exam space, not sheets hanging between beds! Like clockwork on blood, scheduling image, getting blood drawn, results back, medical decision and seeing the doctor. Accurate diagnosis. Longest wait was getting into my room upstairs, however, the noise level in their exam area was the calmest, quietest I've ever experienced so I slept on their comfortable exam bed until I got my room at 3 am. Every person was professional, courteous, friendly, upbeat, and truly cared about my comfort and medical care. Very surprised and happy to get a huge single room to myself!! It's in the new wing. Really helped my recovery. Hardly heard any hallway noise or talking the whole stay! The helicopter even landed on the roof outside my window and I didn't even hear it! The bed was sooooo comfortable! No tossing and turning through the night also helped my recovery. No unnecessary, annoying visits for vitals or procedures. The nurses and staff were very considerate and met and anticipated all my needs. Comfort and quality of care were well attended to even though they were very busy. They never rushed my care. If I needed pain medication they made sure I got it. (Thank you!) At surgery time the only delay was waiting for the anesthesiologist. Everyone else was like a well oiled machine. However, the anesthesiologist was very knowledgeable, experienced, and thorough. I woke in recovery and was alert and functional. Food was good for being in the hospital. Menu and a la cart choices were provided so after the first day I got to pick exactly what I wanted to eat and drink. It always came up fresh with hot and cold appropriate temps. Remember to include any condiments ahead of time. It's not a restaurant. The kitchen staff were friendly, helpful, and eager to meet all my needs. The only area that could be attended to better was keeping my wall board up to date. It wasn't always done spontaneously by the staff, sometimes had to request as the information changed, and I think that is very important to avoid mistakes in medication, treatment updates, oral intake and restrictions, and who is treating me. The hospital was very full though, so I feel the nurses and staff did an awesome job!!
