Stay away from West Coast Cranes (WCC), as there are plenty of other crane companies in the Bay Area that won't pull a bait and switch on you, in terms of what they can accomplish for the price they quote. We only tried working with them because the swim spa company recommended WCC, but they failed to honor their quote, increasing the quoted price by an astronomical amount at the last minute, which required us to scramble for other crane service options; turned out to be a blessing in disguise since we found Ad-Lite cranes in the process, whose service and execution was flawless. WCC will talk a good game (Tim N.), but that's about all you'll get; maybe some double talk and some spin. Save yourself the headache and frustration of dealing with WCC; too many other options available to have to deal with this company. read more

I call to get a quote from Tim to move a swim spa from the curb over my house. He gives me a quote then when I call to make arrangements to do the job he tells me that I will have to strap the swim spa myself and signal the crane operator. What kind of outfit is this? Why in the world would I pay several thousand dollars to strap the spa and signal the operator? When the spa drops on my house I suppose they are not liable? Is this guy serious? They should say sir as the home owner we need to send two certified union workers that know what they are doing to move your spa. They all the sudden wanted an additional $1k to send a signal Person Buyers Beware and ask what you're getting so you don't get bait and switch!! read more

I recently used West Coast cranes to lift a large endless pool over top of my house and into my backyard. The coordination with the team was simple, and the service was extremely professional! So I am a landscape contractor that needed to place a out door fire place in the back yard and it needed to be lifted of a two story house. The bottom part of the fire place was 4500lbs the top piece was 1200lbs. The driver showed up at 8am on time and was great to work with him and his assistant made sure we would not destroy the fireplace while it was being moved. Robert explained numerous times if we need to set it 25 times then that's what we do but he did not want us to try and rush it... he said take your time make sure it's square.. my concern was to make sure it was level.. So I used this company to lift my new spa onto my deck and it was set up by the spa company. Then 6months later when I go to move same company wants to charge over $700 and if I want a 2nd guy to help rig the crane it's almost $1700 . Talk about taking advantage . To top it off the receptionist was rude , took 4days to even get a call back and then the owner calls and tries to rip me off because they are so busy. FYI everyone this was lift spa off deck set on my trailer and leave. Update: I called other local crane companies and their quote for the EXACT same job was $350.00 and they could be there the next day. read more

These people showed up one day to do a job for a neighbor. They lifted a ADU out of the neighbor's back yard and swung it over our house to get to it out to the street. At no time did they contact us or ask for permission to endanger us and our property, as they are required to do. Multiple requests to discuss the situation have been ignored. I would not ever do business with people this callous, cavalier, and unprofessional. read more

One of two degenerate crew members from west coast cranes began to yell and curse at a neighbor parking on the street after the posted time for allowing them to do their job while the other degenerate crew member began yelling at a local worker trimming trees. I was a neighbor that was watching from my porch it was not a good look for the company I'd suggest being more respectful no matter what the circumstances are. read more

I had a complicated move where I needed to move a piano, fridge and tv cabinet over a balcony. I could not find movers who specialized, so I had to get a crane company to do it. Several others quoted ridiculous prices and were very discouraging about doing the job and suggested finding a moving company, which I had already searched extensively for. West Coast was professional, reasonably priced, and DON was the best crane operator. He was courteous, clear in his directions to the moving crew I brought in, who had not done this job before (The Moving Company--they did awesome by the way--see my review of them). They worked well together, and I'd highly recommend West Coast Cranes for a move like this. It was worth the money and stress free! Don was very attentive to how he strapped the items and took extra care with my piano. Everything made it in without a hitch (well, he did use a hitch!). Additionally, Don removed a jacuzzi in my back yard and did the most amazing job handling the crane in an area full of trees, without damaging the trees or fence. He is a true pro, and his years of experience showed! I would highly recommend this company for a similar move. They will stay in my contacts list for the day I ever move out of this place! Today our company used the help of Chris from west coast cranes. Upon calling we had the crane the next day. Chris was knowledgeable with the equipment, very comfortable onsite and with our companies customer, he is easy to work with, and a great worker that truly demonstrated what west coast cranes can do for each individual. We would not have been able to complete our install without him. Our metal fabrication company will definitely be using west coast cranes again for any and all huge installs. The crew from West Coast Cranes is amazing. They craned my very large (8' x 21') swim spa over my house (that sits on a rather steep hill) and into my back yard, threading between the web of power and cable lines on the street and spinning the spa by 180 (so that it faced the way I wanted it to). They landed the spa onto its cement pad within a foot of where it was supposed to go (the delivery company nudged the spa into the exact spot, which is how it had to go down so that the straps that lifted the spa could be removed). Mind you, the crane operator could not actually SEE the landing spot. West Coast Crane worked seamlessly with the city to obtain the required permits and signage for the street closure that was necessary. Lowell (who I think is the owner) even called me on a Sunday to get the project started. read more

We hired this company for a crane service on a project of ours, CVS in Gilroy, CA. We called them for a last minute service and they were able to provide us with an appt which we were thankful for, we were quoted 1,100.00. When the the employee Ryan was complete with the service he gave us a pick ticket to sign with a description of all the work he had completed totaling 1,100.00. We signed the form, he signed the form we authorized the charge for the 1,100.00 on our debit card. Later we get a call from Ryan stating he was on double time @ 3:30pm and we now owed them a total of 1,550.00. Business to business, this is an unacceptable and unprofessional business practice. It should have been disclosed from the beginning that we could possibly be paying for his double time rate. Obviously to them this was an opportunity to rip off and take advantage of someone who needed an immediate service. Ryan an employee of theirs, is the rudest person we have ever had to deal with. I cant imagine speaking to my CUSTOMER the way he spoke to us girls in the office. He cussed us out multiple times and threatened to "rip our F**kin units off the roof" at our job site because we were trying to get the approval to run the card for the additional cost we were not advised of. We were relived when we found he wasn't the owner and the owner would be calling us, only to find the owner condones this behavior and did not apologize for his employees actions at all!! What kind of company is this!?? Stay away from them unless you want to be treated like dirt! read more

I had to lift a 8'x14' 2500 lb swim spa over my house and locate it under my patio roof. I had a discouraging time working with a different crane company. The day before the job they changed their quote from $1500 to $7000 and said it would be a week wait. So at the last minute I called WCC and they were fantastic. We went over all the details of how everything would work. I had to talk with them a couple times throughout the day and they were very responsive. The morning of the job, the crane operator and an additional rigger showed up right on time and were very professional with the job. West Coast just handled a big (950 pounds) hot tub delivery job at my home in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It was not easy - dealing with phone, cable and electrical lines. Tub had to be placed on our back deck and under the redwood trees. Our operator did a fantastic job and was very efficient and friendly. I could not be more pleased with the outcome. read more
