Waraner was in between but the primary reason I chose them is because they were quick to respond to all my emails and provide me with answers to all my questions. Over the past ten plus years we have hired Waraner Tree Experts and found them to be reliable and easy to work with. At that point they were just starting out and were trying to build their business. How things have changed! Recently, friends who had used Waraner told us that their crew was disorganized, they "hacked trees" instead of trimming them and they were unresponsive to their concerns. This week we found out how much things have changed. We (and a neighbor who also wanted a quote) had a scheduled appointment with them for from 9 am to 10 am. At about nine Waraner called us that a problem had come up and Dustin could not be here until later. We pointed out that the appointment was made last week, and that we had things to do later in the morning and that a change in timing also impacted a neighbor. The appointment person said "we have lots crews and there was a problem with one of them, can't you just adjust your time"? We implored her to keep the time commitment and after calling Dustin said he would be at our house between ten and eleven. At ten twenty Dustin called and said he was just leaving his current location. My wife expressed frustration over the scheduling issue and he literally yelled at her and hung up. My guess is that Waraner has grown too big too fast. Trying to supervise eleven crews, getting new customers and keeping customers happy may be too much for a growing company-thus the stress Dustin displayed on the phone. In any case, there are too many other courteous and customer focused tree trimmers to do business with. read more

My review might be #31 as a 5 star review for Waraner Tree Experts, but since my admiration for their work, their professionalism, and their customer service made this experience of shelling out big buck to satisfy the San Ramon Valley Fire Abatement District almost a pleasure, I'd like to add my two cents. It all started when I called Waraner Tree Experts, and Kim answered the phone. She made an appointment for me. Dustin was right on time. He came out to discuss my job, and immediately captured my admiration for his knowledge and people skills. When I called Kim to schedule the work, she got right back to me to advise me that she would be setting up the schedule, and would call me back on Friday with a definite date. On Friday morning she called just to tell me that the schedule wasn't fully completed, and she would call back on Monday morning, which she did.....Oh if the government only worked this way! Dustin called 7:45 the morning of the job, when I was expecting the work crew between 7:30 and 8:30, to tell me the crew, headed by Ramon, was on it's way, and due to be here shortly. They arrived at 8:10 AM, and Ramon immediately walked the job with me to discuss the scope that Dustin and I discussed. He and is men were knowledgeable and personable, and they got right to work...each of the three men "branching out" to accomplish the job.. When they left, everything was done to perfection, and the grounds looked clean and neat, just as they found it. Hats off to Dusin, Kim, Ramon and his crew for a job more than well done! Now that I've found Yelp, and have read other 5 star reviews, I feel confident adding my name to the others, and confident in checking out Yelp for other opinions to help in other instances. Excellent responsiveness and great work. We had a 30' tree that was leaning on the house post drought. Waraner brought in the right people and equipment to remove it without damaging existing structures. In addition they did very difficult pruning of a 100 year old Oak that extended over the house. I'd used another tree service for the past 13 years and, on a neighbor's recommendation, decided to call Waraner Tree Experts. The contrast is staggering! I'd always spent what I considered a substantial sum and never realized any real benefit. The trees were taking over the yard and my life. I was to the point of actually considering trying to remove a massive heritage oak or moving because I could no longer deal with the hassle and safety concerns. It negatively impacted existing landscaping. Now, I realize the other service had never done a thorough job! Recent work has opened the space considerably. It looks much more manageable. Make sure you get another Bid...Waraner's bid on pruning 22 trees on my property was $2500...that was $1400 more than what I paid last year with Atlas. When I told them they were too expensive, they didn't bother to negotiate even though I left the door open. We had 2 trees in our front and back yard that he died and needed removal. We also had several trees from our neighbors yard which were growing over our fence and needed trimming. I spoke with Kim on the phone and set up a time for an estimate which they were right on time for so straight out of the gate I appreciated that they respected our time. They gave a very reasonable estimate and were able to set up to do the job within a week. They were prompt once again and left everything clean and looking nice when they were done. They also ground out the stumps. I called them asking if they could grind one of the stumps down further in order to plant another tree and they came back out took care of it in a timely manner with no hassle. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!! I can't say enough great things about this tree company! We had a large tree in our backyard that had fallen and was being held up by nearby spindly trees. It's canopy was so large that it seemed impossible to remove the tree without taking down a couple of our neighbors fences. In desperation we called 5 different tree companies asking if they could somehow remove the tree without doing so. 3 companies declined the job saying it was too dangerous, 1 company said they could remove it but would require the neighbors fence to be damaged. Waraner Tree Experts was the only company that figured out a way to remove the huge dead WITHOUT any property damage!!!! They saved up hundreds of dollars from having to repair my neighbors fence. My husband and I were in awe as we watched how skillfully their workers climbed the thin spindly trees and roped the canopy of the dead tree just right so it fell on a safe location. I have to admit, I was on the edge of my seat a of couple of times but the guys were completely calm. I mean, the climber looked liked like he was doing the splits to get from one tree to another, and at one point was almost upside down just to get the right angle. Called to set up an appointment a week or so before the appointment. Took off work early to meet with them. I received a text 8 minutes before the appointment stating that "due to our previous encounter we cannot perform services for you." Only thing I can think of that happened on one of their last jobs was that they did not complete the job as per proposal so I asked them to. On the next tree removal they poured gasoline on the stump to prevent new growth. Poor business practice in more ways than one. read more
