To date, I have still not received a clear, transparent explanation of what services were allegedly provided, why they were not explained in advance, or why this continues to be billed as something other than a preventive visit. My previous attempts to get clarification were met with dismissiveness rather than accountability or patient-centered communication. Receiving. Up until 2 weeks ago, I would have never thought of going to Walmart for vision issues. I ranked it right up there as if they had surgeons on staff (would you go get your appendix out at a place like this). I was completely wrong. This office has just about the same modern equipment as my previous optometrist minus the very expensive Opto-map. Initially you sit down and get checked for glaucoma, initial prescription measurement and some other device. In the main room, he broke out all the fun stuff from the funky eyeglasses to a huge assortment of headgear, lights, hand held lenses and charts. Overall I was in the office for over a half hour. This visit was way longer than my previous doctor. What was nice is that he explained every step he was doing. Overall, I felt as though I received more than I paid for. Excellent! I know for a fact that every aspect, angles, inside/outside of my eyes were checked. Wow. I never left any previous doctor with this feeling before. The outside staff is a bit bland on their customer interaction but guess what, I kind of liked it. No hand holding, hovering, forcing you to buy the most expensive stuff. He pushed the script to me and began to process my initial contact order. I had to ask him to buy glasses on top. Nice! NO Pressure! Overall the pricing is excellent. Copay, contact fitting, 1 pair of titanium, transitions, full scratch/glare protection, another pair of Safety Prescription glasses and disposable contacts for....$680. I don't know about you but if you go to some doc's that is the cost of 1 pair! I think I paid 500 bucks for my previous pair of glasses. Thank you WalMart. I will be going to your Vision Centers from now on. You helped me realize how much the markup is on glasses. Opto-map? Quick comment. It's a costly machine which takes a picture of your retina for the doc to scan on a PC's display. Much hype but insurance usually doesn't cover it. This doc uses light and lenses to peer into your eye and inspect the retina. Same thing, old school. WORD!

Walmart Vision Center is the best! Best customer service, best prescription glasses and they have a great selection of frames. I need bi-focals, and the glasses I get from Walmart have the reading portion perfectly placed. No thought involved when I need to see something close up. The competitor? Went back to them 3 times for them to correct them and ended up throwing them in the trash and coming back to Walmart. Oh, and did I mention great prices? That too.

Eye exam was fair price, and separate from the vision center. Their optometrist doesn't wear a blue smock, as he is an independent contractor. In fact, you pay at his desk back where the eye exam rooms are, credit card charge to doctor so and so, then go back out to the main area to potentially buy glasses or contacts from the employees with the blue smocks from Walmart itself. Eye exam was top, I assure you. I have had glasses for thirty years, and I've worn contacts for about 18 years. I was also in the military and I've seen many, many different optometrists in my travels. This guy was near the top of my favorites. I was struck with his attention to detail, and conversational style to get at, for example, what contacts might be best for my changing eyes. I couldn't have been more pleased with the eye exam. I will recommend him to anyone around who asks me. As for the Walmart part of the business, it was... also great! Another pleasant surprise. I did not buy glasses so I don't know about glasses from here other than by price, which looked really low. Can't speak to quality for it. For contacts, though, quality is not determined by where you buy them. Same brand is same brand. I can say PRICE was great at the Walmart Vision Center. They do price match if you find a lower price, but I can say that my particular contacts cost $65/box from Walmart, and were $70/box on 1800-contacts that same night. I was all set to go back for my price match guarantee, but Walmart already had the lowest price I found. I'm not one to get super excited about eye exams and the like, but I had had a crappy optometrist experience for the one prior to this visit (see my one star review for LensCrafters in the Mall of NH). The optometrist for the Walmart vision Center in Bedford made a variety of essential changes to my prescription (less negative for vision, wear reading glasses, use toric lenses) that resulted from a good, quality, solid 30 minute exam.

I had called at 9:00am to order more contacts and to see if they had extra daily disposable contacts that I could have until mine came in as I had a wedding to attend. The receptionist told me she would check and call me back. 5 hours passes and no call. I walk in to pick up a family member's order and I asked about my contacts. She rudely told me that they did not have any contacts on hand (which is hard to believe given the fact they always have extra samples when we come in for our exams..I mean after all this is an eye care office) and told me I HAD to go to the wedding in my glasses and I had no choice. She never recommended an alternate option such as giving me a paper prescription to see if I could get the contact lenses elsewhere because she is insincere and cold. She told me that she never called me back because she wasn't able to find any contact lenses for me. I politely told the receptionist that I would have appreciated a call to let me know about the status of the contact lenses, to which she raised her tone and began to yell at me. The amount of disrespect I was shown is unbelievable, especially for a professional setting. I felt like I was being yelled at by my grade school teacher for not sitting at my desk like I was told. After her yelling subsided, I asked for a paper prescription to see if I could fill my contacts somewhere else. Willow Eye Care has lost me and my other family members as customers.
