When I first opened the door I was impressed by the size of the room, huge is all I can say. The bed was warm and cozy, buy was I tired after a long day. The suite consisted of a living room, bed room and bathroom. Even the bathroom was huge. In the morning I was greeted by a beautiful picturesque view of the falls. The Inn also provided a Continental Breakfast, and the best thing ever for a morning, a Kureg coffee maker with a selection of various coffees. The host was amazing, showing us the rooms and describing anything we might need to know. The place is Amazing and I suggest a stay when ever you're in the area. Sorry, some of the photos are blurry because I had a screen on the window. I forgot to mention that the bathroom had a Jacuzzi.

The king bed was nice, but I felt that mattress was ready to be replaced, as there were several sunken divots in certain spots. The front desk associate was sweet, as were the views of the Mohawk River from our room. We really enjoyed our stay here!

There were a few rooms in the bed and breakfast itself but we chose to to stay in the cottage by the B&B "The Hog and Haus" which at one point in time housed pigs. This cottage is right next to a gorge that you can hear very clearly from inside the cottage and it lulls you to sleep. The cottage is rustic yet has all the amenities you could want (except television) there is a fully stocked fridge with soda, water, yogurt, a variety of fruit, milk, cheese (good brick cheese), creamer for coffee, and flavored seltzer water. There are also a variety of different kinds of crackers, cereals (the good kind), and baked goods that the host prepares daily. You also have access to the main house which is very tastefully decorated with antiques and a working pool table, and, get this.......an all you can eat ice cream sundae bar with all of the toppings and not one, not two, but over six flavors of ice cream!!!! There are also more snacks and beverages there. The cottage itself was more than worth the cost especially with the sound of the waterfalls in the gorge and the true cabin feel. If you plan to go to Cooperstown or even just want an awesome getaway (this place is well worth the trip from anywhere) come to Johnstown to stay in this charming historical place. Oh yeah..... there is a ton of history behind these walls including being part of the underground railroad. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

Both of those factors were off-the-charts at the Inn by the Mill. My fiancee' (well, now fiancee'... :)) took me up here on a 2 night trip for our 4th anniversary together and right away, I fell in love with this place. The numerous fountains and gardens framing the mill house are hard not to be enchanted with, and this is just the beginning. Ron and Judith are gracious hosts, with Ron having some amazing stories to tell. People wrote in the guest book in the Mill House that Ron should write down his memoirs, and listening to him for ten minutes will make you agree. The main Grist Mill Emporium will amaze you, with its numerous games (billards table, checkers, puzzles, tv, etc.) and of course, its amazing ice cream parlor with complimentary ice cream, toppings, sodas and other beverages! Heading over to the Mill House (the main guest house), you will instantly feel the sense of whimsy that Judith's decorating is trying to achieve. The outside koi pond compliments the larger pond in the Grist Mill. The porch is wonderfully day-dream inducing, especially if a recent rain has fueled the waterfalls into a loud stream behind the mill. The plethora of treats in the house's kitchen is evident as soon as one walks in, with the small cooler of baked goods courtesy of gourmet cook Judith (their famous oreo truffle torte is NOT to be missed!!) There is a fully stocked fridge (eggs, fruit, yogurt, bagels, etc.) along with every kind of tea and coffee that you would need...the living room and lounge areas are just magical and really evoke a great feeling of warmth that is a great way to start your day on vacation. My guy and I stayed by the Hog-n-Haus, a beautiful, romantic sweet little cottage literally right at the cliff of the waterfalls. Just beautiful and serene.... the perfect place to propose to your girlfriend of 4 years, which my guy did on August 3rd :). Thank you Inn by the Mill, for a truly wonderful and memorable experience. Each morning's amazing breakfast was exceptional and my hosts Roland/Steve were very accommodating, If I was ever hungry, it would have been my own fault, but each morning's breakfast got me started in fine fashion! One morning my hosts allowed my sister to enjoy the breakfast with me, even though she was not a guest. The Inn is an oasis from the busy world and while I was staying there it allowed me to finish one book, and take in all the ambiance of a richly appointed Inn. The Portobello is ideally situated so that I could easily get to Utica, Herkimer, and the wonderful Little Falls Canal Days celebration during my stay, Driving a car is a delight in the Mohawk Valley! Next Stop was the Logged Inn, where the owner/lady asked me if she could help me. I asked her; "what are the odds that you would have an apple pie left". She informed me that she was completely sold out of pies, but she might have one coming out of the oven after 4 PM. When I returned, I learned from her husband that she made that pie just for me. I couldn't believe it. The best cinnamon apple pie I've ever had!

They provide everything you need in the kitchen. And had bagels, fresh fruit and cereal for breakfast, as well as coffee and juice. It might be a little awkward if you were sharing the space with people that you don't know. In the warmer months they have a nice outdoor space with a fire pit. There is a little country store downstairs and a dollar general across the street.

Accommodations: The aesthetics look nice from the outside but the rooms are not that nice and the walls are extremely thin so we heard every single word and noise from every room in the lodge. We also had to go down two flights of stairs into a he basement/dog training room to our bathroom, which didn't have hot water and smelled like pet urine. The host, Monique, is incredibly rude. She was entertaining personal friends in the common area of the lodge for both of the nights we were there. Her group took over the whole space, even though Monique's house is 50 yards away, and was drinking and partying well into the morning hours. It made us extremely uncomfortable to even try to go to the bathroom. Neither one of us, nor the other guests that weekend, got much sleep since they were so loud and the walls/doors are so incredibly thin. Monique is rude on every level. She criticized us for our dog's tail being cropped (was done long before we got her so it was far outside of our control) and was just condescending and disrespectful in general for the whole time we were there. The icing on the cake is that we forgot a new pair of pretty expensive glasses there. My wife called/texted Monique and she acknowledged that her husband had found them under the bed of the room we stayed in. She said she would send them to us (my wife even offered to pay for the shipping) but they never came. After a few weeks we both tried calling and sent several texts (one just pleading for a response) but she never once replied. Needless to say, we paid almost $500 for two nights there and are extremely disappointed with the service and how loud and uncomfortable the stay was. I grew up one town over from where Lodge Solange and my sincerest advice to anyone considering this place is to just keep looking. There are many much better and nicer / places and people in the Mohawk Valley.

Initially, we had a little trouble getting a hold of them to make the reservation, but once we had that taken care of it was pretty much everything we could ask for. We arrived later on in the evening the first night, so we couldn't actually see much around the B&B and went to dinner. We came back, opened a bottle of wine, sat on the back porch, and stared at what was probably the most stars either of us had ever seen. Then we went to bed. When we woke up, we were not expecting what we saw - shrouded in a morning mist (sounds cheesey - but this is the real deal), the back of the place overlooked the Moose River, a calm portion that almost made up a small lake. It was really amazing, and as it cleared up we were just thrilled to have chosen the place. Access to free canoes and kayaks - which we took full advantage of. The landscaping and area leading down to the river was very nice, a great place to relax after a day of being a tourist or after some light kayaking. The river was very nice, meandering with houses here and there along the shore, perfect for a lazy canoe or kayak trip. Also lots of turtles, water birds, etc., I'd imagine the fishing would be pretty good too. They also have a sweet, sort of vintage tandem bike - good times. We went to have breakfast - a really nice continental - and the owners were really lovely. Super friendly and helpful re: getting around and finding things to do, Stuart and Jimmy were really great. They weren't obtrusive, but made sure we were well taken care of. The room was very nice, everything was sort of an Asian/Northwoods/Antique-y mixture that wasn't too gaudy but you still knew you were in a B&B. If you're planning on hitting upstate New York and you want to stay some place affordable (it was $79/night for 3 nights during the week - you can stay at a crappy hotel for that much or more), this is not to be missed. Friendly, beautiful, and really close to perfect to be totally honest - we were fully satisfied and talk about going back whenever it comes up.

When I found their website, I was immediately attracted to the decor. I LOVE antiques! We booked our stay for the Tiffany Rose suite. Shortly after we booked our stay, we received an email from Barry. He asked if we were staying for anything inparticular (wedding, anniversary, etc.). He also asked if we had any dietary restrictions because he prepares breakfast every morning of your stay. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by both Barry and Denise. They gave us a tour of the Victorian and then showed us to our room. I was in awe from the moment we pulled in the driveway. They also gave us some ideas for places to eat and things to do. Now let me tell you about breakfast...all I can say is WOW! Our 1st morning we walked downstairs to the smell of bacon and piano music playing. We walked into the dining room to find 2 beautiful place settings for us, with juice, coffee and fresh fruit waiting. Denise came out and grabbed our plates, then brought them back out with the most delicious breakfast. We got to start our morning with a crustless quiche, hashbrowns, and "my dad's bacon", as Barry called it. So we got to start our morning, and every morning we were there, with full, happy bellies. It was a great start to each morning! Each morning was something different, but equally delicious. If I have my choice, I will skip hotels and stick with B&Bs. If you are traveling to the Herkimer/Cooperstown area and not traveling with children under 13, I highly recommend the Raindrops on Roses B&B.
