Ours was fine, quite spacious and airy. Though I understand some can be quite pokey with even pokier bathrooms. The staff were......well......there, they gave the impression they had far better things to do than talk to you and although pleasant enough when asked something, didn't offer much of a warm welcome. Would definitely use it again when visiting the Albert Hall/Hyde Park areas.

I guess the Carlton Mitre Hotel has that all sewn up. If I were a visiting tourist with some money in my pocket, I would come here. This is a very proper, traditional hotel; the building dates back to the 17th Century, and there is very much an element of grown up sophistication to the hotel. When my brother and his wife came to stay we once put them up here for a couple of nights- they considered it a real treat; they were very well looked after. The rooms do cost - from around £130 -£270 a night. These are the advertised rates, but they do special offers from time to time. If you want to check out the hotel, but not stay over, you can book out the conference rooms for business meetings, or visit the two restaurants, Hamptons, or Rivers Edge Brasserie which are situated in the hotel.

I've stayed in motels that have been in better condition to be honest. Carlton Mitre has a fantastic location, but so many things let it down. Perhaps once a upon a time, this was deemed to be luxurious, now it is only disappointing. Firstly - the room. Drab, and definitely had better days. The deluxe room we had had a bed with a ridge running down the middle (rather uncomfy) where two beds were pushed together. On the upside, we did get 2 chocolates upon our arrival, and we did sleep well despite the bizarre nature of our bed. The bathroom - some rather odd stains around the sink stem (rust?) and general black marks on the filler around the tiles. Not really the most pleasant of rooms to clean in. The public toilets in the foyer were not much better. The bar - closed at 10:30 on a Friday night. With a wedding party booking out the building. So have no idea what that place was like. Staff - when enquiring where we could find food at such a late hour, told us to walk across the bridge. It would be nice if the staff on front desk knew the local area rather than fobbing us off with a vague answer. Where a chemist was... over the bridge (nearly 2 miles away as we discovered). Food - we only had breakfast. And it was awful. Nasty cheap bagels, barely toasted, with sloppy, runny tasteless eggs. Cheap feeling overall. On the Sunday, despite the same breakfast menu from the day before, the duty manager would only serve us tea, as the rest of the food was buffet style (including coffee) - served with a side of rude. Breakfast food that had sat in a hot plate for too long. Oh well, at least there was fruit to be had. Overall, I haven't had the widest experience of hotels, but I've stayed in better and for less money. Given the number of people who stayed over this weekend, I would imagine there was enough profit to maintain better upkeep of a so called 4 star establishment. Definitely wouldn't return.

Location, location, location. This hotel is literally around the block from the Bayswater Tube…read morestation and a block or two down from Queensway. It's also two to three blocks from Hyde Park (if you couldn't guess by the name). There are tons of hotels in the Bayswater area. It's kinda like staying in Midtown NYC or near Michigan Avenue in Chicago---lots of tourists and stuff marketed to tourists---tons of souvenir shops, fast food, Starbucks, etc. Whiteley's mall is a few blocks away as well---note: there is a reasonably priced internet cafe there so you can stay connected. It's also VERY reasonably priced for a hotel in central London. I booked a single room (single = twin bed) for four nights (including full breakfast) for about $250. What a steal! However, for any Americans reading this, let me school you on European hotels. Do not assume private bathroom---read amenities, if it doesn't say en suite or private, it probably doesn't have one. Just warning you so you don't end up like Ellen Griswold inviting a stranger into your bubble bath. Nevertheless, Hyde Park Towers does have private bathrooms, or I should say closets. Teeny tiny bathrooms. So small that I had to prop the door open to be able to stand at the sink and had to straddle the pedestal sink to use the toilet. But I'll take teeny tiny to myself than larger with company. My actual room was small, but comfortable. Twin bed, desk, armoire, mirror and a hutch for luggage. Small television with some cable too. Hairdryer included, so I didn't have to worry about bad hair in the already soggy climate or adapter issues. However, there is no clock in the room so I had to use my cell phone to keep track of time. The breakfast was good. They offer a breakfast buffet, but my reservation included a full breakfast. I overslept one day and missed it, oops. There is a restaurant on site, but I didn't eat there. Also, I want to note that there is an elevator so you don't need to haul luggage upstairs. The front desk was friendly and I had no problems checking in or out. The room was cleaned each day, but the housekeepers were loud so I couldn't enjoy sleeping in too late. (Which is just as well, I'm there for London NOT for sleep) The street view of the hotel is just what you expect of London and is really pretty. In the end, it's a nice, but not fancy, good bargain in Bayswater. I would definitely consider staying again considering the price and location.

I was immediately disappointed for a couple reasons. 1. No one wished my spouse a Happy Birthday, though we notated we were celebrating that and our wedding anniversary. 2. We were put on the first floor near the gym and the hotel was not at all full. Note that I am a Seeds member. 3. No extra blankets in the room, though that was requested. We left for a bit to eat and when I returned I expressed these concerns to Ilya. She immediately took action to upgrade our room and send a nice birthday treat and extra blankets. A special shout out to Slava as well for always being so pleasant to interact right. All in all, I think they are still working out some kinks being new, but still a beautiful place in the heart of London.

The stairs are very confusing when you try to exit the building, had to use the elevator (which is really small) to get to the ground floor. There was no map to show you how to escape via the stairs or a hotel directory. We paid $15,000 for a thirteen day NCL land and sea cruise and was assigned a hotel in the tinder district (didn't realize how bad that meant) and this is only the first day. Complained to the front desk in person a second time and they upgraded us to a really nice room (room 214) with a hotel directory and air conditioning that worked and a king size bed and no cracked walls at no additional charge even after I asked how much it would cost to upgrade to this room (which I would have gladly paid) so I gave them more stars than the one star that I was initially was going to give them.

There's plenty of dining choices for every taste, diet and nutritional desire. The hotel is in an area surrounded by no less than 24 institutions of higher learning. Plenty of hungry students and faculty to keep everyone in business. The lobby is small and there is an unfortunately placed pillar that inconveniently blocks some staff members from being able to see the guest queue. The registration counter is in the shape of a L. If I were managing the lobby, I would staff the three stations on the long axis before placing anyone at the short acis, just to keep the lines in some semblance of order. Everyone that we interacted with was cordial and easily answered our questions. We were also fortunate that our room was ready when we arrived and we're able to check in before noon. The room was clean but the size of a postage stamp. Smallest hotel room that we've ever had except for one at a pub in Germany. You had to turn sideways to walk between the foot of the bed and the wall. The bathroom was functional with a tub/shower, sink and toilet but just felt oddly configured. The flight was 10.5 hours. We didn't sleep on the plane. We had a shared transfer from Heathrow to the Radisson. After we dropped our luggage, we went foraging. My plan was to get some lunch plus something we could eat after a nap. Then more sleep to acclimate our body clocks to local time. When we returned, neither of our card keys worked. A visit to the front desk and it was explained to me that the entire Radisson Blu group had been experiencing problems with their card key systems. A new key was handed to me and it worked. After we ate, it was nap time. As I drifted into slumber, an alarm went off for about 15 seconds. Silence, then another 10 seconds. Silence. We continued getting dressed and as my wife stepped out of our room, someone who appeared to be from housekeeping told us not to worry, that they were testing the alarm system. We stayed in our room and heard the alarm go off twice more for less than five seconds each over the next ten minutes. This is extremely dangerous as it promotes complacency and can potentially get people killed. If the first alarm was a test, and the second alarm was a test, will you react appropriately the third time it goes off? What if the third one is a result of a real fire? We didn't react much to the second and third because we could hear staff in the hallway. I wonder what other guests did? For the cost and size of the room, the issues with the card key and alarm "testing", we can't recommend staying at this property. I've upped my rating and added some comments after breakfast. Our stay included complimentary breakfast. This is not your standard cheap buffet. It is buffet plus! Cold and hot cereals, croissants, toast, cut fruit, scrambled eggs, sausage, mushrooms, beans and tomatoes to be sure. But you can also order customs eggs, waffles, pancakes and more. Staff is constantly on the go, clearing tables, pouring coffee and tea, always with a smile. I also noticed this morning how large and thick the bath towels were. A very nice touch. I also saw how high the tub was when I got out of it. A bit of a step up and then down. Without having a grab bar to hold onto, this could be a hazard for those with limited mobility. So while we still cannot recommend this property, we can at least give it a middle of the road rating.

We assumed that we could have our bags held while we walked the city. From the door man to the front desk staff member to the man who brought our bags, every single person was super duper accommodating. They checked us into one of the two rooms at 8 am when check in is 3 pm!!!! Subsequently since every single person has been very engaging and seems to go out of their way to make our stay memorable! Can all properties be trained by these individuals?? If not, they should be. The rooms are typical London small, but very clean and cute. My 5 stars goes for the service!!! Would absolutely return and recommend:)
