Gotta love the artristy from a simple orange.

Had dinner at Wasabi East Sushi Bar in Wichita, Kansas. I got the chicken katsu bento box and my brother and niece ordered sushi and to go for my nephew. My bro and niece liked their sushi and my nephew said it was good when they gave his to go order at home. My chicken katsu bento box was alright since I don't eat sushi. Was tempted to order the soft shell crab though for an appetizer, maybe next time. My nephew didn't go with us and wants to go to check this place out as he enjoyed his sushi we brought back to the house. More peoplle starting coming in before we left. So must be a really good place. Service was very good.

I was craving sushi and was in town so decided to come try this place. They seemed to have mixed reviews on yelp but better reviews on google. We ordered a bunch of food to try and some of my favorite was the spicy hamachi, playboy and scallop sushi. Everything was fresh and tasty. I love fresh rolls so I was so happy that they had a bunch of choices. They also have a bunch of cooked rolls as well if that's what you are into. Overall if I'm ever in town I would recommend getting sushi there again. The environment is what I expected. Dimmed lighting, a lot of tables and cozy feeling. Service was good as well seemed like they have a good team there because other servers would help bring our food out.

Ballentine roll (no rice)

Last Wichita stop for this trip. We had a party of 7 and got a table on Sunday as soon as they opened. Our server was so friendly and so attentive to all of our table. My husband and I ordered a Japanese burrito for an app that was so great. You could have this for your meal. Stuffed full of spicy tuna and crab. So yummy. I had a Ballentine roll (which has no rice). It was so delicious and filling. After our meal the server brought cute little orange teddy bears compliments of the chef. Highly recommend!

Spider roll, salmon roll, and chicken gyoza

Wow! I really enjoyed my second visit here. I went here a few months ago, and was not very impressed by my first visit. However, I gave it another shot and I'm glad I did! I ordered carry out while in the store, and the staff was incredibly helpful and quick to help. They took my order immediately, gave me a rough time estimate, and made the wait pretty easy- despite it being a Saturday night too. Shoutout to the staff! The Spider Roll was worth it! It does cost more, but I think all of the specialty rolls are worth it. However, I wish I got another specialty roll instead of a classic salmon roll. It was the added portion that helped get me full though so I can't complain. Chicken gyoza was full of flavor, just a tad less crispy I wish it was. Other than that, I am glad I went again. Thanks for a great Saturday night take out!

Sushi burrito (filling and pretty good). Beef Dinner Bento Box - meat was cold. Not too impressed.

Was not impressed. First of all, we had our name and number down for 2 and was told it'd be 30 minutes and they'd call. No call and we ended up waiting for almost an hour and seeing people getting seated before us. The waiter was super nice and attentive though - thank you! We ordered the sushi burrito for the appetizer, beef dinner bento box, and I got the popcorn lobster roll. The sushi burrito itself could've been a meal, it was pretty filling and I liked it! The popcorn lobster roll was cool - they had little fried crawfish on top. Unfortunately, the beef in the bento box was cold and chewy, but we didn't want to stay longer than we had to. Overall, the sushi was what you'd expect from KS and choose either the sushi burrito or a roll since it's filling.

Ahi Tower, Fire Red Dragon, and Rattlesnake to the right

The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside coming in, but once inside it looks completely different. It's got a good vibe with spacious interior. It had dim lighting with blacked out windows so it was easy on the eyes. The sushi here was definitely the best I've had in Wichita. It tasted so fresh and yummy, they barely had any rice in the roll and were generous with the fish. I would definitely recommend the ahi tower it was amazing. I would come back here again if I were to visit Kansas again.

Chef's choice Sashimi 15pc, along with the Spicy Tuna Roll, and Tako Salad... Moonstone Asian Pear Bottle for the drink.

Food was fresh tasting, My sashimi was plated beautifully and I even got a couple extra pieces complimentary of the chef. Great service, he helped answered questions well. great lighting and clean atmosphere. Only wish is that my miso soup would've been a hotter temperature it was lukewarm, but tasted great!

We came in as a party of five at 8:30pm, fully aware they close at 9. We ordered quickly and respectfully, excited to enjoy one of my favorite dishes: the chicken katsu. I've raved about it to friends, especially the generous portions--normally two large, pounded-out chicken breasts per order. But tonight was a different story. We ordered a bibimbap, 10 wings, a roll, gyoza, a child's katsu, tempura and two chicken katsu meals (close to $20 each). For our katsus instead of full portions, it was obvious the kitchen split one order between both plates--then handed the scraps to the child's meal, which we were told would be "half" an adult size. It wasn't even close. Not only was the portion insulting, but the food wasn't fresh. The chicken was dry, overcooked, and hard as a rock. I couldn't even bite through one piece--I had to spit it out. When we brought it up, they offered 10% off. Honestly, that felt like a slap in the face. I had just convinced people to come here based on how good this meal used to be, and instead I ended up apologizing to my guests for bringing them here and still paid for meals we weren't fully served. If you were low on chicken, in a rush to close, or just had a lazy cook that night--own it. Don't try to pass off a single meal as two. That's not just disappointing--it's dishonest. This experience was a joke. And if that's how regulars get treated, I will regular no more.

A lot larger than I expected--could definitely accommodate larger parties. Very slow for a Sat afternoon.

He said it was some of the best he has ever had. The sushi however was just ok. The overuse of condiment felt like a ploy to cover over lower quality fish. The flavor was just not that great. Also, charging for spicy Mayo feels a bit excessive, but hey, I get it. You have to pay for those fake little plastic bonsai trees somehow. Service: 3/5 Having to ask for plates when you get a sushi platter should not happen. My partner and I were sharing a platter and the waitress only brought us one cup for soy and no plates. Also, the weirdly plated sushi was gimmicky and difficult to share. Ambiance: 2/5 The music was ok but the plating of the food and lack of availability on condiments and mismatching silverware made it all feel cheap and tawdry. I probably won't be back, as there are equally ok sushi spots who don't rely on gimmicks to wow their customers. I would have preferred just rolls on a platter without the little wooden box with a pile of shaved radish covering two blinking plastic ice cubes with one of my rolls precariously squished on top. Also, having random piles of lettuce on the plate is so unneeded. Not to mention that the rolls themselves were cramped with all the extra fake decor that reminded me of what you would place in a fish tank. It's like they asked themselves what would a midwestern person expect in a sushi restaurant and then they made it a parody of that.
