I went here on the recommendation of the reviews here on Yelp. The sushi was great, even though it did take a while. I had the San Francisco roll, which is basically a California Roll with shrimp on the top. I was impressed with the roll, which, unfortunately, was the last good thing about my meal. My sushi had barely been delivered when my hibachi meal arrived. When I asked the waiter about the salad that was supposed to come with the meal, I got a response of, "I forgot that and the soup...sorry". The hibachi meal itself was uninspiring. The noodles were greasy, and the vegetables has been overcooked to death. By far the worse part was the shrimp still had the black line going down the back. How hard is it to clean shrimp?!?! The plate itself was swimming in sauce that was pretty sweet and gross. Needless to say, I left over half of it. My waiter then brought me salad in a to go container to make up for what he forgot. The lettuce was wilted and brown and obviously came from a salad bag. When I received the bill, the waiter "forgot" to take the 50% off for the sushi. Came here recently, about a week ago and was disappointed with the cleanliness and presentation of the food. Our seaweed salad came to the table with strings of seaweed hanging over the side of the bowls and fell on the table when it was transferred from carrying platter. The dish was further "cheapened" by the large amount of lettuce that it was served on top of. And my roll looked great when placed in front of me, but it fell APART as soon as I tried to grasp it with my chopsticks. An experienced sushi chef can roll and "tighten" a sushi roll with ease so the fillings don't fall out. read more

We used to really like this place. It had this kinda je ne sais quoi atmosphere. It wasn't quite a true Japanese feel, but definitely not an American overblown feel either. We loved it when we moved into town! But it's really gone downhill and tonight's meal is the meal that has pretty much turned me off from ever going back. They use the same rice for their regular cooking rice as they do for their sushi rice, and they steam it as such to make it not usable for either situation. The biggest deal with their rice is that it is overly sticky. This makes both the sushi and the rice used in meals to be as gooey hard as can be. Secondly, since they are using the wrong kind of rice for their sushi, the sushi tastes awful! You can't substitute regular rice for sushi rice. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. I am giving two stars here and not one bcz we did like them at one time so maybe they can improve and those who are not looking for top notch sushi might find this place good. No wait at lunch on a Sunday. Place was very clean. Our waiter was on it today! We never had an empty glass! Food came out very quickly and was really good. Daughter had noodles. Husband had hibachi steak, rice and veggies. I had hibachi veggies and rice. He had the soup and said it was very good. My salad was the normal Japanese salad. Our lunch was very quick and good! They used to be good but as of recently, they have been unaccommodating. I usually order fried rice without egg because of an allergy, and the waiter said that the kitchen won't change anything about the fried rice. This means that they don't make their fried rice fresh which is disgusting. The waiter I had also took forever to bring our food and forgot half of our order and we were still charged at full price. I love Wasabi! The best sushi you can get in Owensboro, which I get isn't saying too terribly much, but the quality and taste is great. I've only gotten the Hibachi once, and I wasn't impressed with taste, but the portions and price were definitely generous. So, back to the sushi... LOVE their plain sushi rolls such as the spicy tuna, Philadelphia, and Miami rolls. Just your typical rolls with rice, seaweed, raw fish, and some kind of filler such as avocado or cream cheese. These rolls are always fresh and delicious, and they range from $3-6, which is super affordable. I've also gotten several of the special rolls and those are also fresh and affordable. I enjoy eating in the restaurant, and the service is always quick and friendly. However, for nights when we feel like grabbing "fast food" Wasabi will take call-ahead orders and you can pick your order up in their drive-thru. So convenient! read more

Food is great and service is fine, but we have some type of issues every time we go. They'll forget something in our takeout order and they're very stingy about making things right. All in all, rules are not customer service friendly. Example: they charge for yum yum sauce even when you order $30+ dollars of sushi. Long wait lines at takeout as they haven't figured out curbside pick-up system like other local restaurants (like Showgun.) Phone number is often busy. Ran into Owensboro for the evening and asked Dude at Best Buy where we ought to have dinner. We were looking for Thai, but he suggested this place. From the parking lot, it looked like your run-of-the-mill, generic Asian take-out joint, but when we stepped inside, it was like, "Whoa! All right..." There's a full bar (which was bartenderless on New Year's Day, but where I usually prefer to sit), a staffed sushi bar, high-back, black, wooden booths, and ADA-friendly tables. You can tell they've put a lot of love and work into the décor, which is fresh, sharp and clean. Our server Nick was polite, chilled out, friendly, and right on top of everything. We told him from the beginning that we weren't in any hurry, and he refrained from making us feel like we should be. We both ordered beers, a Sapporo and Kirin. I was bummed not to find Tsingtao, but it's Kentucky, and I'm pretty much just happy to get something other than a Bud or Miller product. I started out with the seaweed salad, and my friend took the miso soup. I will say, first time I've ever been served seaweed salad on top of iceberg lettuce, but I simply didn't eat the iceberg lettuce, so it was great :) My friend said the miso soup wasn't the best he'd ever had in his life, but it was still tasty. We moved on to some sushi, octopus nigiri and bloody mary. Both were fantastic, and neither rolls "fell apart as we tried to eat them." Then again, we're both pretty skilled with chop sticks, and maybe previous customers (who tried to get "lower sodium soy sauce" at an Asian joint????) weren't... but I digress :) They were delicious! My friend suggested we get the "Dinner for Two," due to the awesome price for the amount of food, so we went with the steak and scallops. Honestly, we ended up with shrimp and scallops, but, hey! It was New Year's Day, so our server probably had a long shift, and it was pretty loud in there due to the crowd, so maybe he just misheard us. At any rate, we decided to just eat what we'd received, and it was great. Granted, I ended up having to take mine home, since we'd pretty much already had a full meal at that point, but it held up well for leftovers, which is always a plus. Moral of the story: Don't judge a book by its cover. Check inside this place. It's good. read more

I absolutely love Wasabi. The food is delicious & a pretty great value. I cannot say anything about the sushi, as I have not tried it, however the Hibachi meals are great & the portion size is plenty to share between two people, everytime I have gotten it there has been plenty to take home for leftovers. You also get soup & salad with the hibachi meals. I have no complaints as to the service I have received anytime I have went. I only have a very few minute complaints about the food, that may just have to do more with my own personal taste. The salad with ginger dressing is amazing, however when ordering it in the restaurant, it is soaked in the dressing. Just got take out tonight & dressing was packaged in a cup by itself so I could put as much as I wanted on my salad. May have to remember next time I eat in to ask for it on the side. The soup is amazing as well, however a little too salty in my opinion. I am not sure what kind of soup it is but it has a very strong flavor. The only problem I have with the hibachi dinner is that the sauce that is poured over entire meal is almost overpoweringly sweet. & more often that not, the chicken is slightly overcooked and a tad bit dry. I am looking forward to trying the steak hibachi next. Yet, none of these small matters of taste is enough to keep me from craving Wasabi's hibachi on occasion. read more

I agree with Beth P. It's not really saying anything to compliment the sushi in Owensboro. Once again, the food is okay but I have had better. Once again. it's really the service that earns Wasabi the low score. The servers don't offer you their entire attention much less any eye contact. My Charming Companion and I prefer low-sodium soy sauce. I didn't see the green cap on our table so I asked for it. In the course of the exchange with the server I get the impression they put regular soy sauce in both containers which causes me to question: Why bother with the lie? Just say you don't offer it. Undoubtedly, the worst restaurant experience we've had in Owensboro. The staff is oblivious. My wife's order never came out and our server half heartedly apologized adding "I can't even tell you when it's going to come out." After 30 minutes, we told them to cancel her order. The first time I asked for a manager, she was on break. The second time I ask, she came by, apologized and basically stated that she didn't have control over the kitchen staff either. Seriously?! The Yakatori(listed as teriyaki chicken skewers with green onion) came out without skewers, without green onion and not cut up. Just big naked teryaki chicken fingers on a plate in dried teryaki sauce. They were gross and way overcooked(dry). Our server said he removed my wife's order from the bill (gee thanks! ) and the manager offered to comp our drinks....we both had water. We paid for my meal and left. This location would be a good place for a real manager or the owner to be. read more

There's a good variety of choices so everyone should be able to find something to try. We asked for some lower sodium soy sauce but were told that they didn't have any because of a price increase. Terrible experience. Waited 30 minutes after being seated just for our waiter to come over. Service was terrible and our waiter took forever to bring out even our drinks. This has quickly become my favorite place to eat, and I have to drive almost an hour to get here from where I live. The half-price sushi is a great deal, and I haven't been disappointed with a single roll yet. If I'm in Owensboro, I know I can pop in here, order a couple of rolls and be in and out relatively quick- all for the same price I would've spent at a mediocre chain restaurant. The hibachi is also tasty! My husband and I usually split the Hibachi for Two, and we STILL end up with ledtovers. Portions are very generous! They also have the best ginger dressing I've ever tasted. I want to buy an entire bottle to bring home! Service is usually great, but if they are busy and they are understaffed, the servers don't check in as often as we'd like- but that's happened once in the dozens of times we've been going. We also love the atmosphere (the highback booths are so cool!) and appreciate that it's casual enough to stop by anytime, but is also fancy enough for a night out. The fried rice bowl was literally just rice, no vegetables and tiny bits of chicken. The seaweed salad was served on a bed of bagged iceberg salad mix. We went to the Parrish Ave location. Our order came out wrong, and we had to stop the waitress twice. The first time we stopped her to tell her the sushi was wrong, she said ok and walked off. The second time we stoped her, we told her again that there was not cream cheese in the roll- this time she replied that she doesn't know what goes in them and walked off. The third time that we stopped her, she grabbed the plate off of the table and showed the chef, who was annoyed that we were waisting his time. When she brought out the sushi, she placed 2 plates on the table. She later came back and picked it back up to take to another table. We had already eaten off of this plate. Sadly this place gets worse each time they open a new location. Not sure that we will return after this experience. read more

Dinner last night at the Wasabi Parrish location in Owensboro, KY. We were going to go to the one off of Frederica but were out shopping on Parrish and stumbled acrossed it and thought we would try it. Just as good as the other two locations! I only took pics of my food. I had the hibachi chicken and steak(the steak was cooked so flavorful with garlic). My husband had the hibachi shrimp and then had a sushi roll (I believe it was the Delcator Red). All meals come with rice, veggies and noodles (so yummy!), and then soup and salad. I had double soup cause I love that broth and it was cold and chilly last night with the rain. I don't remember our servers name but she took care of us and was on top of everything. My only complaint was that their yum-yum sauce was a little too funny for my liking, but other than that everything was delicious and we'll definitely eat at this location again. -- eating hibachi at Wasabi Parrish. read more

Wasabi is one of the better Japanese restaurants in town. Their sushi is phenomenal as are just the basic hibachi items - go for the hibachi steak, it's cooked to order. Along with big servings, share some mushrooms with the rest of the table - they do not disappoint. read more

My experience at this restaurant was less than enjoyable. I will not be returning, as I do not feel my business is appreciated and valued. I cannot speak much to the subpar cuisine, nor the lackluster ambiance when dining. Aside from the insect infestation in the restroom, my main concern is the terrible service from both staff and management. Upon arrival, our group of seven people was appropriately seated and our drink orders were taken. Everyone in the party was over 21, with the exception of our designated driver who was 19 years of age. The rest of the group bordered 30 years of age, well over the legal drinking age, and well over the appearance of being underage. As the waitress took drink orders, she requested to see everyone's driver's licenses, a legal and precautionary norm for any restaurant following the rules of liquor license ownership. As she viewed the licenses, she collected them and brought the bundle of ID cards to her manager, outside of the typical norm of giving them back immediately. Instead of returning to the table, she sent the manager who promptly let me know he believed my ID was a fake, although almost everyone else in the party had the same state's license. I assured him that I was well over 21 (28, actually) and joked that I had been able to drink for quite some time. The manager restated the fact that they could not serve me due to my "false" ID. I asked for them to scan the card, because, surely, if they were able to spot and turn away a fake ID, they had a device that would be able to prove authenticity. The manager's tone was not polite in any way, and he continued to argue with me, ultimately refusing to serve me. In most cases, I would not care that I couldn't enjoy an alcoholic beverage with my dinner. I would generally shrug it off if the following circumstances were not true: everyone else in the group was served- an unfair standard to be set, the manager created a spectacle of our group in the general dining area, and most importantly he did not seem to have any strenuous policy surrounding the decision. If you are going to turn someone away, at least invest in your business enough to have a device that aids you in said decision making processes. The actual act of declining my beverage order is not the reason I will not return; I have a choice in where I spend my money and to whom I give my business. I will not return to an establishment that goes out of its way to make me feel like a fraud, ruins the experience of my other guests, and provides an overall demeanor and disposition that they are not grateful for my business. When you treat customers like they are suspects, or continue to speak to them in a degrading and disrespectful manner, you will not keep a returning diner. I will not be back based on this treatment. read more

Ambiance is great. Service was slow. I ordered the spicy sashimi salad and found four hairs in it- pretty sure they came off multiple heads.

I am very impressed with this restaurant! They have great service and prices. The sushi is delicious and so is the hibachi. I love that they make their own Yum-yum sauce. read more
