The last time I wrote a review for Wasabi was 4 years ago. We have lived in New Jersey and New York since then, before moving back to the Jacksonville area and I think of the service here often. Wasabi truly still has my entire heart and I rarely go anywhere else for sushi (Hubby and I only do the sashimi and nigiri). We order takeout more than we dine in but the cuts of fish are still fresh like I first remember, the service is still really great and it seriously feels like I never left. Truly a hidden gem! Wonderful customer service. The sushi is so fresh and absolutely delicious. I think we found our go to sushi spot. The miso soup was so tasty as well as the pork gyoza. We ordered Beef Yaki udon noodles, Baby roll, Christmas tree roll, and Cody roll. They were all excellent rolls. We left the restaurant with happy bellies! Will be back again. Absolutely everything is always amazing when my family comes here. The staff is so friendly and attentive and the food is to die for! In town for the beach, I found this gem in a strip mall across from several hotels. The reviews are spot on for service - friendly, accommodating - and as I was dining solo, there was about 10 min wait for smaller table. I didn't want to squeeze into the sushi bar section. The owner and staff apologized several times for my wait. I ordered the Maki combo and added miso soup. It was delicious. Everyone in the place had sushi rolls. Everyone. There are only 13 tables in the place, 2 tops and 4 tops. As it's a Friday night, they did a huge amount of carryout and Doordash, I noticed as I waited for a table. Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening around 6:30. Parking was available and we were able to be seated right away. Inside was quaint with a decent amount of seating. Our waitress was very sweet. My friends and I ordered an appetizer but it didn't come out until after our sushi. The menu was very overwhelming with so many options of special rolls and various noodles and dishes. So many options to choose from! I ordered two special rolls. They were very large and a really low price compared to many other sushi restaurants. Not the best sushi but okay! Wasabi Sushi is quite literally a hole-in-the-wall in the best possible way. It completely exceeded every expectation we had. Coming from the West Coast beach cities, I've had a lot of sushi--and this is hands-down the best I've ever had. The menu is full of great options, and honestly, you can't go wrong with anything you order. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The service was great, and the waitress made some good recommendations and was giddy that I tried sake for the first time: it's a subtle, sweet, non-fizzy, fermented- rice wine. I also had the mango moscato -- both very affordable but small flute-glass servings. The dumplings were holy-cow good!! The Bento box let me try lots of things: good teriyaki chicken, California roll, and tempura sweet potato. Everything else was just okay. The yaki soba was good, and my son LOVED his purple rice dish with just the right amount of heat. I just wish we'd had room for dessert. They only have two toilets for the entire restaurant, both customers and employees. There was a continuous wait for the bathrooms. The space itself is fine, but the best view is watching the chefs behind the counter rolling sushi. I'd love to come again! read more

Brilliant. Every time. The chefs are gangsta prepping 24/7 and still manage to be social if you sit at the bar. This is the only restaurant in Jacksonville where servers are on point and will crack a sweat keeping the dining room perfect even though they're constantly busy. It was super easy to order from and described all of the different specialty rolls so you knew what they contained! I got the Calamari, Spicy Crab Cream Cheese roll and the Dancing Girl roll. The calamari was very good. It came with their calamari sauce which is delicious. Almost like a sweet and spicy. The Spicy Crab Cream Cheese roll was also delish. Simple but so good. The tofu was 5 stars, fried lightly and topped with flakey fish, the sweet soy sauce was a perfect compliment. The miso was just ok, I prefer a much more robust flavor, theirs was pretty bland. My sushi rolls were pretty much inedible. I ended up picking over the spider roll. The soft shell crab was too thick with batter and soggy and the cucumber wasn't fresh to taste. The Eel roll was just meh, I ended up not even eating it. There were also several strands of short black hairs in my sushi rolls. I would come back for the tofu but I wouldn't order anything else from here. read more

Second time here and I was not disappointed. Got the chicken pad thai (noods for long life-- Happy Lunar New Year!) and it was the second best pad thai I've ever eaten (the very best was in San Diego long, long ago). Typically chicken is neglected in Asian dishes where people order the preferred pork/shrimp option, but instead of the dry, rubbery disgrace I've been used to, it was so tender and perfectly seasoned (if you ever try making stir-fry on your own, look up the "velveting" technique and thank me later). I was so impressed with this dish that I may just come back for a third time... within a week... judge not. If I were to say one negative thing, because I'm the type of person that has this need to find something wrong with perfection, I would say that their hot tea is overpriced. $5.50 for some hot water and leaves? Are you importing it from the emperor's palace? And to top it off, the tea cup is always hotter than the actual tea, like the whole "microwaved food = hot bowl, cold food" effect. Service has always been fantastic, and even when something is wrong or messed up, they're quick to correct it or offer it to you free of charge next time or take it off if you won't be back for a bit.
