I do enjoy their hibachi if i am dining in but I recently ordered their sushi to go. I ordered the "hard rock and roll". As soon as I got home and ate a piece of sushi I could immediately taste that something was wrong. The fish was dark grey. I called the restaurant and asked for a refund (on just the sushi, my fried rice was fine). And instead of being apologetic the woman i spoke with asked I send her a picture. I sent the picture below and she was insistent that that is the color of the fish and told me it looks fine. Very disappointing because it certainly did not look or taste fine. We made a reservation and arrived on time (a little early) and were told we were next to be seated. 30 min later and several others were seated (we were told they were here before us, although we had a reservation). We asked the manager why we had not been seated yet, after being told we were next 30 min ago) and he said he had customers who were sitting (obvious, but was not the answer to my question). Tonight I decided to go to Wasabi and treat myself to some sushi and Hibachi. I have to admit however, that I miss the sushi we had in Hawaii and especially the sushi and Japanese fare in Tokyo (Shibuya) Japan! In California(where I am originally from) we had some amazing Japanese restaurants as well. The thing that I miss most is the pork or bacon in the fried rice. For some reason, none of the restaurants I've been to here in Tennessee ever put park in the fried rice. My wife is 1/2 Japanese and her family always puts pork in the fried rice. Oh well, that's my only main complaint. Other than that, everything I had tonight was nice. I ordered the Yum Yum roll as a starter and then had shrimp and lobster hibachi for dinner. The food is average to be honest. Cheap meat. Decent rice and sauce tho for their hibachi. The vegetables are actually really good. The amount of seasoning they picked up is impressive. Fried pork gyoza is good tho. Not like other restaurants. A little tangy... But it grows on you. The sushi smelled a little off, and because they put it right on top of my hot food to go, it was warm by the time I got home... I live 7 minutes away. The customer service was okay. Imagine unfriendly people attempting to be friendly, that's what it's like. My biggest problem is that they taxed me TWICE. Maybe I'm just ignorant of how the restaurant world works, but I've ordered take out MANY times and have NEVER been taxed twice. I've been coming here for years. The food is good. The only thing that I would like to improve is the service. Sometimes the chefs are very nice and excited and other times they don't look very happy at all. Sometimes the server stays on top of everything and refills my drink and gets my order right, and other times it's the opposite. I normally order the yum yum roll (which is delicious) and then hibachi chicken. The food is always excellent, it's just the service that is really inconsistent. We did dine in and everything went well. The chef we had was very funny and did some unique fire tricks on the grill that my daughter loved. Delicious! The performance was different for starters, cute little ways to liven up a hibachi cooking that we haven't seen before. The clear soup was very good. The ginger salad had a great flavored ginger dressing. The fried rice, veggies, steak, chicken, and scallops were all delicious! I've never been to the hibachi here but the sushi is a joke. Don't waste your time or your money. The fish was not fresh, my tamago nigiri was ice cold when it came out. Too much rice as well. It feels like a rock is in my stomach after I have digested this. Seriously, I'm thinking about your personal well-being when I say: please don't eat this sushi. I understand that it was the Saturday evening rush, there were many people there (not everyone was wearing masks btw) but COME ON. We think we got scammed here as well. This used to be our go to place for close hibachi in the boro, unfortunately it's gone down hill these past few times. We order from UberEats this time and let's me tell you, it was such a ripoff. We paid over $60 for our meal: Filet mignon and chicken hibachi, two sides of fried rice, two sides of white rice, and sesame chicken. The portion of meat was shocking. Most of my review will be in bullet points this time. I tried the Blaze Roll, probably named after the nearby high school, and their Blackman Blaze. It was not spicy, although the name suggests it. It looked pretty. Too much rice. Seafood flavor was lost, pretty bland. Green tea was good, hot, and came out fast. My food order came out amazingly fast for a sushi order, even though they were a bit busy. Plaques on the wall announced a couple of popularity awards given by the local newspaper. They did nothing to help us.. we had to ask for paper towels and they brought us 2 of them! My wife had to leave to get clothes at Samsclub as I sat there letting my child have the experience and eat their food. Just some advice, write down customer names on the wait list and not group number of people and it will be more organized. Multiple parties come in with the same amount of people in a group. Looking for something different in the local coupon magazine and saw Wasabi had early bird specials and decided to give it a try. Some friends had said good things about this place so I was open to it. It is located in the back corner of a newer strip mall but the sign on the grass near the sidewalk made it hard to miss. The friendly and efficient greeting as soon as the door opened was nice. So was the efficient wait staff, who took drink and food orders as soon as we were ready and got the ball rolling. We had the hibachi grill, which involves the "show". Cooking utensils and spice containers making music, and food at the same time. The early bird specials were roughly 15% lower than the prime time prices but the selection was limited to about 6 items, all two-meat dinners (like filet mignon and shrimp which I had). Since the dinner hour had not fully started, it was not crowded at all and the service was very prompt. The cook was great and cracked some good jokes while conversing with us and cooking. The food was good. Usually they pour lotsa soy sauce on the fried rice and it comes out on the salty side. The chef had experience and I could see (and taste) that he had a moderate touch, especially with the soy. Also tried two specialty items from the sushi bar and they were also prompt and tasted good. The chef...during his warm up, kept dropping his utensils, so that set the tone for me. It was just ok for me. I ordered the tempora shrimp and he brought out a coconut water oil like substance for it. It was horrible and tasted like water with a hint of coconut and had the consistency of water. I had this before and they gave me like a brown soy or ginger sauce which was great. We have always loved this hibachi place! I have never had any issues with the food. The fried rice is probably the best in town and I have definitely tried all around.
