We came in for dinner on a cold night, the restaurant was empty and they ended up closing early. Got our miso soup hot, and the salad was great. The sushi is where they shine though! The place was decent and quiet and the servers were prompt. Though I love asian food and sushi I'm not a big lover of overly fishy seafood. I got a bento box which came with the California roll. I asked the waiter if we could switch that to a vegetarian roll and he said no, they could only leave out the meat which would have given me just minimal verity. Then the man preceded to inform me that imitation crab isn't fish. Fantastic sushi joint! Easy to order online or in person. I ordered take out twice and was super impressed with the speed, flavor, and variety of offerings. The serving sizes are massive! Came here for lunch a couple days ago, despite the empty parking lot during peak lunch hours, I decided to try it anyways because it was right next to the hair salon and I was on a time crunch. I ordered the beef bulgogi bento box and was dissapointed. The tempura shrimp wasn't very good quality and the bulgogi looked like it had been made at least a day in advance and reheated. The salad dressing was good, tasted like horseradish, but the salad alone wasn't enough to get me to return. First time in Texas , from California . I found myself craving some good sushi rolls . Saw the pictures and menu choices on Yelp and headed out. The service was exceptional and I believe it was a spicy tuna roll I grabbed. The tuna tasted fresh and was delightful to eat. Dessert was a amazing . The happy hour is the best I've ever seen from a sushi place and it's everyday, you can't beat that! I always get a few pieces of nigiri, the SAC roll, SA roll and my BF and I's favorite baked green mussels! Wasabi is one of the best sushi restaurants in San Antonio. Your meal first begins with complementary soup and squid/seaweed salad; this is such a delight since one is bound to spend a pretty buck when eating sushi. I personally ordered the Red Dragon and Wasabi roll. Both rolls were generously filled and topped with fresh fish and yummy, complimentary sauces. Just a heads up, the fried calamari here is different than Kona Grill or Yardhouse. Great place to take your romantic partner! read more

Went back my second night here because some friends-who-can't-be-named stood me up. And now let me tell you about the amazing wait staff and chef... Holy Fresh Tuna God, I have never been treated with more respect or been waited on more attentively. They were more than friendly the first night, but tonight felt like family. I saw this amazing dish on the counter and said, "I don't know what that is, but I would like that" and the chef smiled and went to work. Apparently it was one of his chef specials and so as he was making mine, showed the rest of the chefs how to make it. Then he set it on FI-ARE! and presented it to me. After a couple delish bites, he made some crazy sauce and suggested I dip my roll in it - yum!!! I had ordered the spicy crab salad as well so all together with the miso soup and seaweed salad (did I mention earlier they were complementary with the meal?!) I was too stuffed to finish so I asked for a box. The chef added more lettuce to my half eaten salad and prepared it all to go. I am in love with this place! Queen for a night - I'll take it!!! I suggest sitting at the bar and coming in later when it's not so busy for the ultimate in pampered dining. read more

Not sure where all the bad reviews recently have come from, but I've eaten at Wasabi very regularly over the past 3 years and have never had an issue with my experience. Their sushi is arguably the best in town and always fresh (the Spurs Roll in particular!). All food is reasonably priced and the lunch specials in particular come with a TON of food. Happy hour is 4-7 and certainly worth checking out. Servers are kind and quick to attend to me and my party. Service has been slow when the restaurant is busy, but that's to be expected anywhere and it's never been a problem to me. Overall, this is one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio and that opinion won't be changing anytime soon. I highly recommend this place. read more

This would be our third and final visit to this establishment unfortunately. This visit was by far the worst experience.... we get seated and wait about 10-15 minutes for a server to come get our drink order (while another server was at the table next to us the whole time having a full-blown conversation with a family), and by then we had had enough time to see what we wanted to eat so we gave him our drink order, two appetizers (gyoza and fried calamari), a chicken teriyaki bowl, a bulgogi bowl with a caterpillar roll, a combination katsu; and a combination fried rice to go. We wait and our soups and salads come, but no drinks. By the time we are done with our soups our drinks come, and my husband asks for a fork for his salad... another 5 minutes go by before his fork is brought. Then the teriyaki chicken bowl and bulgogi bowl come out with the sushi roll, but my husbands meal and the appetizers are no where to be seen! We ask about those three items and we are told "oh! They can make that really fast for you! They are making his combination katsu now, they can get the appetizers done fast too!" Tell them "nope, to late for the appetizers now, we have our meal". The chicken teriyaki was good, the bulgogi was not good, the shrimp in the combo katsu was way over cooked. When we got the check, we also noticed our order of combination fried rice was not on the bill, nor did we receive it! This waiter (who another waitress came to step in and say "he is new") left off half of our order! That would have been at least a good $50 more to what our bill turned out to be. We ended up going to Kai's to get our combo fried rice; at least there they appreciate repeat business. read more

We also had their shrimp and vegetable tempura as an appetizer and their cucumber salad. Thoroughly enjoyed the cucumber salad. It had a generous portion of crab meat. The tempura on the other hand was nothing to brag about. It was bland. Basically, I've had much better. We finished our meal with two rolls of sushi, their Tiger Eye and Hot Night Roll. This place is fantastic, I go once every other week. I would say the best thing to get is the Whatever roll, it is their wildcard roll. I have had it by just about every one of the chefs and I have never had one I did not love. Also, the rolls are VERY large and a little cheaper compared to other sushi places in the area. read more
