Recently, I got Wasabi using DoorDash, and I was very pleased with the experience. They were really professional and delivered the food to my parking lot with chop sticks and soy sauce. I got the Hollywood roll, which has soft-shell crab, avocado, spicy tuna, eel sauce and spicy may. The fish in the roll tasted very fresh. It wasn't my favorite roll from them, but it was still pretty good. If you need to get your sushi fix, then they are a pretty good option in San Antonio. read more

First time here and it was only after another place was not what we expected, we arrived around 515 or so, first thoughts were not great, there was only 1 couple there sitting, well to put it mildly, we picked the right place, customers started rolling in and since it was happy hour from 4-7 we ordered some rolls, California and salmon avocado were both fresh and amazing, then our order of Pork Katsudon for my wife and my chicken katsu came and we were blown away again, large portions and reasonably priced and delicious. *EXPERIENCE DURING COVID-19* Wasabi where have you been all my life?! I had been craving sushi for a while, and was looking for a new sushi restaurant to support during covid-19. One of my friends suggested Wasabi, and went on and on about how they were the best. Their menu is very different from other sushi restaurants in San Antonio, and they offer amazing deals for lunch. I believe they also have a sushi happy hour (haven't tried that). Anyhow! Placing our order was super easy, and it was ready by the time we got there. All the sushi rolls were extremely delicious and very fresh. You can tell they use fresh ingredients and their fish is top quality. I can't remember the name of the roll, but we order one with lime on top... it was life changing! I've never had a sushi roll like that. I don't like to give low grades on places, but this was not good. First off there is an unclean smell to the place as soon as you walk in. It all looks very old and dated. The service was pretty weak as well, the workers seem to know that place isn't doing well. On top of all of it, the food was below mediocre, as in most of it was pretty flavorless or worse. We placed the order over the phone with a friendly and kind staff member who gave us recommendations and answered our questions. When we arrived at the restaurant our order was packed up and ready to go. The staff member who we spoke to on the phone told us we had the option of coming inside to pick it up or we could call and have it delivered to our car curbside. Our to-go bag included all the essentials: chopsticks, napkins, soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. We ordered a few different sushi rolls and were very happy with how fresh and flavorful the ingredients were. We tried the spurs roll, the three amigos, a whatever roll and a rock and roll. The sushi is superb and the service is excellent! My by far favorites are the Bellagio Roll and Red Dragon Roll! PS I would like to retract my previous statement about the jalapeños on the Bellagio roll was not spicy because oh boyyyyy my second and third time eating the jalapeños on the roll ....... If you don't want spicy, you can cheat and pick off the jalapeños off the top of the Bellagio Roll like I did . The fried calamari you can ask for it to be extra crispy so the calamari doesn't get soggy after a while of eating it. The crisp was the perfect amount of crunch and not a lot of batter which I prefer. Only thing I wish was for the squid meat were to be thicker so I can tasty the squid more. Texas roll was my least favorite but it was nice to try it. Vibes: still nice and quiet. Love the music. The must is not too loud and perfect volume. I love the booths for privacy when dinning. In the booth you can have a good private dinner conversation and it feels secluded yet you can see the bar and sushi chefs. Heard about it, but ah never before. Upon arrival seated upfront, lol as if we were the entertainment. The table placement felt awkward. Honestly I'm not one for Sushi, just not personal preference. Sushi too much like cat food. The fried pickles were a joke, not the right batter for frying pickles. Texture was like a wet sponge. Now the starters the Miso soup was spot on, that was really tasty and not overwhelming. The salad, could have used some help. Yes, the dressing was spectacular and flavorful, however a bowl loaded with Lettuce as pale as paper, just gross. Salad is suppose to be green! Now I will say every fried sushi roll was amazing. The portions are large. 1 sushi roll could easily feed 2 with along with the appetizers. Beef and broccoli was great as well. Our waitress Devon, was always available and was really good about the drinks and pick ups. Now the bathroom looked worse than a truck stop I was grossed out by that. We decided to give Wasabi a try based on the good reviews and the unusually long happy hour (until 7 on weekdays). When we first drove up, we thought maybe it was out of business based on the faded paint and nearly empty parking lot - but when we saw lights on inside, we decided to give it a try. The dark and gloomy interior, nearly empty dining room and plodding piano music really killed the ambiance. A pallid server took our order for an edamame appetizer but never brought it, and generally made herself scarce throughout the meal. Good happy hour prices but only fair sushi. For me this is the best Japanese restaurant in San Antonio. I've been here multiple times and not once have I been disappointed. The food here is awesome. Service is great. I would highly recommend the spicy sashimi avocado salad. This is a must try. The portion is generous and it's so delicious. Basically you're getting a salad and generous portion of sashimi in one order. All the sashimi here are fresh, especially the yellowtail. Sashimi is the second thing I would recommend trying. Sushi is also great here. For sushi, I would recommend their specialty rolls, any roll with raw meat though. If you have trouble deciding, you can't go wrong with the whatever roll which you basically leave it to your chef to make something for you. Done it twice now, no regrets both times. read more

I used to love this spot because of their high quality dishes and the ambiance. Unfortunately, it's just not the case anymore. First, I noticed that the air conditioning has been broken for at least two years now and they literally have an air tube duct taped and running through one of their windows (you can see from the outside). This is concerning considering it is a sushi place. There also seems to be an issue with the plumbing as there is a noticeable odor as soon as you walk in. The quality of the rolls and cuts of fish have declined. The servers are always very attentive and enthusiastic. However, management and chefs (at least the ones that I've encountered) don't seem to care. I'm still giving three stars because I remember how excellent this place used to be and they can still redeem themselves if they work hard enough to do so. read more

They're not actually doing curbside as the girl that answered the phone told me "rather than me walk all the way around the building to you, park at the entrance and I'll take it out to you." Defeats the 3 curbside signs on the side of their building. They didn't add the extra salmon I paid for, $3, so not a biggie. The $4 green tea was tiny. The $35 chef special was amazing. Sashimi, a roll, another roll, nagiri.. amazing. The tastes were superb. Also got the Monky Bombs, those were kickin, will try the jalapeño bombs next time. Hands down some good sushi cuts. Most definitely will come here again, on my way home. They definitely give YellowFish Sushi a run for their money. I think this place is more authentic and the sashimi cuts are thiccc. I ordered their lunch Omakase and chose the Whatever roll as the "Chef's Special" roll of choice. First off the sashimi was totally not fresh at all, the color and taste was off. Second, the "Chef's Special" roll I got was not special at all. Chef must have gotten it wrong because all I got was a roll with avocado/spicy tuna inside and tuna on the outside. What's so special about that? I've had the Whatever roll in the past and I would usually get a roll with more variety going on. But this was just sad. My husband ordered two rolls and didn't finish them...and he always finishes his sushi rolls - chairs are hard to sit in, not sure why they don't have cushions on their booths - they charged me an extra $1 when I asked for my egg to be fully cooked in my udon, which I didn't know about until I saw the bill.
