This used to be our go to spot for Sushi. We have been coming here for years and have recommended this place to friends. They had an amazing Happy Hour menu and the Staff were great! For the past year or so the sushi had been hit or miss ( consistently on the missed side) The quality of the sushi had declined, they have not kept up with the cleanliness of the place ( particularly the bathroom!!!) huge turnover of staffing. After we were finished eating he said "how is everything so far" like the steps of service were not at the correct timing and if it's short staffed I understand but at that point offer dessert or the check. Sauerkraut seasoned with gochugaru that they tried to pass off as kimchi and some the most poorly rolled sushi rolls I've ever tried to eat. Even with all of this, I would've been happy if the rolls tasted good, but none of them impressed me. The Sushi Fever roll was obnoxiously spiced- you know, when it's spicy, but not flavorful so you just sit there all mad with your lips tingly? That kind of spice. The Red Dragon roll was one of the rolls that kept falling apart so that one just pissed me off all around. We ordered the Bellagio roll and for some God awful reason it came with cream cheese inside! The last roll was a Spider roll and when those began falling apart I just was done. I met a friend for lunch at Wasabi sushi on a Wednesday afternoon. I was looking forward to trying out one of their Bento Boxes but we got there close to 2:30 pm and the server told me that it was too late to order one. Anyway, my friend ordered one of their specials and I ordered one of their Korean dishes. Well, I must say the food was ok. It was not my favorite but that's on me because I got there too late. Meanwhile, my friend and I had a great time talking and before we knew it, it was almost 5pm! We should have stayed for dinner but we had things to do and people to see! Last night was the first time here in many years, but it is as I remember it...VERY GOOD and worth it! Dinner with the lady about 6p. Walked in and seated right away in a nearly empty restaurant. I literally wondered aloud how this place stays open if the norm is to be that empty. But, it was early...and Wednesday. They delivered Miso soup to the table along with a small salad to start, and both were tasty. We split the Spurs roll (because apparently, everyone gets it) and the Red Dragon roll. They came out beautifully plated and were absolutely FANTASTIC! We cleaned that plate no problem! The rolls are what you'd expect cost wise. BUT! You get complimentary Miso soup and salad, and if you go early enough, there are specials for happy hour! Overall, after last night, Wasabi shot up my list of go-to sushi places! It was a horrible lunch experience today! We come here regularly but today brought along our nieces from out of town for a post holiday lunch. We notice the restaurant is quite busy when we arrived--we're a party of seven (7) adults--and we're kind of expecting some delays. Unfortunately, it's not really a delay at all. It's a major service disaster!!! My cousins and my aunt ordered a spicy crab avocado salad, squid salad, snow cone and spicy tuna salad, and bento boxes for our main course. Actually my other cousin ordered snow cone and squid salad as his main course. We expected a longer wait times but Kollin, although he was nice to us never passed by once to update us about our food. Anyways, about 30 minutes after we finished the complimentary house salad and miso soup, our food arrived, all of the bento boxes arrived but not my cousin's snow cone and squid salad. We never heard a single apology from Kollin about the situation which took the sushi bar about 10-15 minutes more for the missing food and that's only after my other cousin said he's cancelling the spicy tuna salad. When Kollin came back with the rest of the pending orders he asked my cousin once again if he still want to cancel his spicy tuna salad order since he have it in his serving tray already. I just thought he's not that sensitive enough to realize that my cousin who ordered the spicy tuna salad is almost done with his bento box. My aunt on the other hand who ordered the spicy crab avocado salad looked at her dish and thought something strange about it. We called Kollin's attention and asked what kind of salad is it on my aunt's bowl, he said that's the spicy tuna salad and said it was a mistake, took the wrong salad and said he'll get the spicy crab and avocado salad shortly. Another mistake on top of the looooong wait we already suffered from the sushi bar. To reiterate, we never get a single sorry from Kollin, perhaps on behalf of the sushi bar staff at least. We can't help but compare the personable service we notice from the other perky and bubbly lady with a name tag/plate on her shirt. We heard her say sorry for whatever situation the other tables are also experiencing and she even gave a free glass of beer for the couple on the table nearby. She was the same lady who served us before Christmas when me and my other cousin dined for lunch several weekends ago, she was so warm and friendly and pleasantly accommodating. I think her name is Devon, she was wearing a Christmas head gear that weekend. Anyway, We felt terribly bad today for my cousin because we are all starving and almost done with all of our bento boxes when he just received his snow cone and squid salad. When my aunt got the check we made sure the spicy tuna salad is not included, Kollin is lucky since the gratuity is already included on the check. My aunt even added an extra $5 tip because she knows how hard waiting table is. But still just one star is enough for the kind of service we had today. I waited this late in the after to write my review since I want to have my emotions simmer down. I could have been nasty and mean with this review but thank goodness my negative emotions are all gone. This is the most objective review I can give about our horrible sub par customer service experience this afternoon. Also, Kollin at least said thanks and have a nice day to us on our way out. I'm impressed. They were opened in spite of hurricane Harvey. I only had the Japanese food which I thought was pretty good. The roll was heavy on the rice but the nabeyaki udon was perfect with its soft cooked egg. I can't quiet out my finger on it but it has a slight American twist to it. I asked for some togagrashi spices Bc I can't live without it. I also had the unagi roll. Again, heavy on the rice, wish there was more eel than rice to balance out the flavor better. We also had the stuffed jalapeño aka jalapeño bomb. Stuffed jalapeño with imitation crab and sour cream and something else I couldn't figure out. I would say overall food wasn't bad. I felt the need to update my review. Three years ago I gave this place 5 stars and I certainly still stand by it! I have tried a couple different places over the years but this is by far still my favorite sushi joint in town! Always greeted with a warm welcome and I love that it doesn't ever have a funky smell (yeah I have dealt with that at some places). Complimentary miso soup and salad is always nice and staff can usually recommend something delicious when I bring in new people. I have a favorite roll and I hardly ever order anything else. The Veronica Roll... its off the menu but if you remember this review... ASK ABOUT IT! A manager made it up a few years ago and it is just soo freaking good! I have tried a few of the other rolls and I have never been disappointed. Everything always tastes so fresh and the proportions are great. It is on the pricey side but soooooo worth it! Edamame is my go-to appetizer and if I have the room I will definitely order fried ice cream for dessert but I am always good with mochi as well! I am uploading photos from our previous visit. This place still gets 5 stars but I was a bit discouraged that towards the end of our meal we realized they had new appetizers and desserts... they were typed up and taped to the BACK of the menu... our server did not mention them to us at all and we definitely would have order some of these items... but hey atleast we know for next time! If its date night, I like sitting in the wooden booths.. super cozy and romantic with dim lighting but I also like sitting at the tables by the front windows. A lot of natural light. Food was good, but the slow service kills the experience. First indication of bad service was that it took ten minutes before waitress came to our table. Water? Another ten minutes, no straws. Asked for straws. Ten minute wait, no straws. Asked again. Waited ten minutes after that to get them. When they brought our plates and the soy sauce bowls, the server spilt the soy sauce all over the table. I had to ask for her to clean it up. It took 45 minutes to get our order of five sushi rolls. They were delicious. I have no idea what she was thinking, but my wife ordered three more sushi rolls when we finished the first set. If I'm meeting up with friends during HH near the med center, you'll usually find me and my friends here. You cannot beat the $4 sushi rolls and sake drinks. A medium size bottle for sake is about $6 and can easily be shared between two people. Maybe not three. My favorite rolls are yellowtail and spicy salmon roll here. One downside is that you cannot take any of these rolls to go, but they will allow you to take your leftovers home ... so order more ;) Overall, love this place for the price and great service! read more

My colleague insisted that he bring me for lunch.. he says they have the most delicious sesame chicken. I must add that he generally doesn't like sesame chicken. Anywho.. We came in for lunch around 1115ish. Not too many people there. We were seated right away which was nice. Waitress came by took our order and I think we waited maybe 10 minutes for our food. I did have the sesame chicken lunch special and it was pretty good. Unfortunately, I was so hungry that I ate pretty quickly even though it was hot when brought over. Waitress was very nice and attentive. However, there was nothing about it that stood out in my mind as unique to the palate. I love value sushi... this place is great for that but there is an issue that has been going on for years now... I hate to mention this but their bathroom situation is terrible. While it appears clean enough, there is a sewage smell that is so bad and you can also smell it inside the dining room. The restroom has been redone a few times over the last few years and it makes me think that there is a sewage backup issue. If we notice it when we walk in, we order food to go and eat in the parking lot... this would be our favorite sushi spot but we often avoid because of the sewage smell. Just a bummer. read more

This is my husband's and my go-to spot for sushi. The quality of the fish is much better than many other sushi restaurants in town and happy hour makes everyone happy. Wasabi is a new favorite for Sushi at the bar. We recently located our favorite sushi chef again, Yoon. He relocated to a different restaurant located on IH10 near Wurzbach Rd. Great place for Lunch and Dinner. We have only been for dinners as it is a treat. We sat and were served both Miso soup and a complimentary salad. Both delicious! We have tried almost all the sushi rolls prepared by Yoon. Our favorites are the Spurs roll, spicy tuna, and any specialty roll created by the chef. Prices are great and the food is spectacular! If you are looking for something very special ask Yoon for the "Love" glass. It has a little bit of everything but is better kept all to yourself. Warm Saki or Itchi Ban beer will top it all off! Check out their lunch specials and bento boxes. I recommend their fried ice cream dessert. We can be found here two to three times a month. Recommended! read more

ROACHES. I've eaten here multiple times without issue. Service, food, and prices are great. HOWEVER, tonight when we went with a party of 4, a German cockroach ran off the serving tray containing our sushi rolls the waitress brought out. We immediately stood up and the waitress got the manager. The manager came over and asked if we were okay. We said no, and that we lost our appetite. She said she would move our tables, and that she is sorry because they just treated the outside of the building for roaches and that now they are coming inside. No, no that is not how that works. German cockroaches are food/kitchen infestations, not outside wild roaches. Also, we treat our home for insects and THEY DON'T RUN INSIDE WHEN WE TREAT OUTSIDE. American and Brown cockroaches are NOT the same as German. She then rushed us out saying okay thank you bye bye!!! Yeah because you didn't want guests to hear about roaches being served with food. I won't be back. It's one thing to not be clean. It's another thing to acknowledge you have roaches and make excuses about them. Edit 12/28/19: They sent me a message to *resolve* this issue. On a Tuesday night it was fairly steady and they had a happy hour drink and menu. Their miso soup first off was just right, not too salty and not too bland. Already a great start for my tastebuds. I ordered rice with shrimp sushi and it was so good, that I had to refrain from getting a third order of it (yes, I ordered it twice). Their seaweed salad was exactly what I was craving and could not get enough of it. The waitress was attendant and explained the menu well for a first timer such as I. The menu was vast but my wallet was not, and so I had to stop ordering food at one point. This further convinced me to definitely come back again.
