Stopped in for dinner before a movie. Plenty of free street parking outside of the restaurant and also plenty to do around it after or before dinner. The staff was very friendly and service was fast and efficient. The restaurant is a little older so you can kind of see the space is a little outdated as far as the seating and things being in good shape but overall it's a good space to be in. They have a good assortment of options for those who need veggie options and more seafood based options. I tried the grilled salmon which had great flavor and it was a good filling meal. We recently stopped in here for my birthday and we should have noticed the red flags about the service right away. We came in about an hour before close and the hostess abruptly told us that the kitchen closed in 30 minutes. We i formed her that we had a reservation on OpenTable for a birthday and we said we would order quickly and were seated. Our server was very friendly and got us our food and drinks quickly. The jalapeno poppers were delicious and the sushi was wonderful and we ordered the Sushi extravaganza, allowing the chefs to choose which pieces of nigiri and sashimi to serve. However we asked for two pieces of Tomago and the server said it wouldn't be a problem. The food was delicious and the playboy roll remains my favorite, but when they dropped the check, we noticed that we were uncharged for asking for tomago. This left us with a bad taste in our mouth because we weren't informed of this and the ingredients for tomago (an egg) is cheaper than the sushi that we would have gotten instead. So, again, the food was great, and the server was nice, but just a few minor details left us with a less than 5-Star experience. read more

This was my first time in the area, and I was happy to be doing sushi! When I first arrived, I noticed the restaurant was nice and clean, and it had a very nice layout. I would even say it's cozy. The hostess didn't come up to me for about 5 minutes but, as I was the first to arrive, it wasn't a big deal. The menu has many rolls to choose from. I chose a Washington roll for myself, but was able to try the spider and girl on fire roll. Our waitress was pretty attentive without being overbearing. We didn't have to wait for anything or wait long. The food is a rough one to rate. My roll, the Washington, was ok, but it didn't have a ton of flavor. I was hoping the wasabi mayo on top would have at least a bit of zing, but it was rather bland. The spider roll was decent but still not what I was expecting. I've had many many spider rolls and I was surprised how bland it was. Honestly, the most flavored roll I tried was the girl on fire. It was served on fire, which was a cool presentation. Grabbed dinner following work with my cousin that was driving through town. We started with the calamari and stuffed jalapeños. Definitely try the jalapeños, pretty sure I could have had a plate full of those for my meal. Not too spicy and the flavors meld together so they are not too fishy either. For our sushi rolls, we did the kamikaze, come and get it, and crazy rolls with some eel unagi. Out of those I liked the come and get it the best. The kamikaze was almost to "soggy" in the middle, the fish was a mix and not a solid piece. Maybe it was just a texture thing for me. The flavor was spot on on all of them, but again the come and get me was top in this department also. It was a beautiful night, so when we arrived around 8:00 pm we basically had the place to ourselves - though the patio was full. Outdoor seating is available. Our server, Megan, was great. This was my first time visiting Wasabi. This place was recommended by a friend. The dining area is open and not really the best for a romantic date. You can see the kitchen when you walk in. The temperature was noticeably warm inside, it is summer, and 100+ outside. Our waitstaff was pleasant. The service was adequate. We ordered the appetizer combo--It was served with (3) different sauces; sweet chili, spicy ponzu and omega sauce, they all were very bland and did not add much to the dish. We also ordered the Girl on Fire, which was a nice presentation, but honestly, I have had much better. My husband and I ordered the stir fried veggies and chicken. I came to Wasabi as I was craving some delicious Japanese cuisine. I did not have reservations and the wait was around 15 mins (not too bad for a Saturday night). The service was solid for having nearly every table in the restaurant consistently occupied. I got the bento box w/chicken and the ginger salad. The salad was small- I'd definitely go for the miso soup next time. The bento box was really filling and tasty, though a little overpriced at $21 in my opinion. The other person I was with got the Crazy Roll, which was much more of a basic roll than the name would imply, but it was very good nonetheless. We were only one of three tables in the entire restaurant at 4 PM on a Saturday evening and our server forgot our appetizer and disappeared for long periods of time and seemed somewhat out of it. The Korean bbq wings ($1 each) were phenomenal as were the edamame ($5). my dining companion got the garlic and it had a bit more oil than I'm into. i had just the regular salted and they were less messy to eat. He got the crab Rangoon ($3). the rolls on the HH menu are fairly simple, not a complaint, but i wanted to mention. I ordered a couple of rolls, cali ($6) and spicy tuna ($8). There is a gf menu available with regular menu. iI didn't have an issue with my delicious rolls off the HH menu. i also tried the ginger dragon cocktail ($7); very nice and bright. This place is so unique I really do enjoy coming here. It is very quaint and more of an intimate ambience. I do really enjoy that you can watch them cook while sitting in the dining area. I also really enjoy that you can get raw or cooked food options. I really prefer to sit in the patio during the warmer season. We were a 4 top, there were 6 employees and one other 4 top on a sunny Friday October afternoon at 12:15pm. Thought we'd be in/out in 45 minutes-NOPE try 1.5 hours later! The waitress seem to forget our drinks, and or refills due to socializing with the dyed blue hair employee who apparently decides when patrons get to eat! most of the employees spent a VAST majority of their time socializing versus providing service. we ordered from the lunch menu, which should not have been difficult to make. The Yummy roll was tasteless and calamari was over breaded as the breading would fall off while holding a piece. I've never thought about walking out of a restaurant until this event because the lack of urgency and respect in an empty establishment was ridiculous! Decided to check this place out on a Tuesday as my friend told me they have roll specials. However, I wish I would have known how long the wait would have been. That's why they lost a star from me. We were the second table sat at 5 pm when they opened. It no joke took 40 min to get 2 sushi rolls. However, I saw staff continously preparing to go orders. Now, it should be said that all staff were working very hard and not just standing around. From the hostess getting to go orders together and answering phone. To the 2 servers continously running drinks. It appeared there were a lot of regular guests as well. I ordered a martini, but they didn't have all of the ingredients to make. However, server recommended another option which was delicious. Also, it should be said that I'm not one to eat sushi, mostly just came so my boyfriend could try a few rolls. I took the avocado off the one and actually liked it :) He enjoyed both of his rolls, and it was served in this cute little boat. My husband and I always love coming to Wasabi. We sat on the patio for date night and it's a great location to sit and people watch. The waitress was attentive and continued to check on us regularly throughout the meal. She was very sweet! We love sashimi and their salmon and yellowtail were great. TLDR: overpriced and not great food. Located in the heart of "the streets of St Charles," I was surprised to find this place relatively empty at 7pm; I expected to have a huge wait to get in; however, I did not let it bother me since the entire complex was fairly empty for 7pm on a Friday night. I should have been more concerned. My friend ordered edamame and a sushi roll, I asked a few questions about the menu and the sushi preparation and decided to just get chicken fried rice and skip the sushi. Weird at a sushi restaurant, I know, but my instincts were spot on. I honestly can't imagine where all of the 5 star reviews came from, but our experience was completely different. My biggest concern (and the reason I didn't order sushi) was that when I asked for an ingredient to be left off my sushi, the waitress got a funny look on her face and said she would have to check. When she returned, she replied "we can't do that, it comes pre-made." What kind of restaurant (let alone one with sushi in their name) doesn't put the sushi together made-to-order? I was greatly concerned about the freshness/safety of their product at that point. Fast forward to receiving our food. The California Roll my friend ordered may as well have been a vegetable roll, because there was very little crab in it; in fact, she had a few pieces of the roll that literally had no meat whatsoever. The edamame was just ok, flavorless and bland to me but she was fine with it. I was even disappointed with the chicken fried rice. The rice was fine, but the huge chunks of chicken were inedible. I had to eat around the chicken because every time I got a piece of it into my mouth I wanted to gag; it was either stringy or rock solid, and was dry, flavorless, and seemed slightly charred. My CFR was so bad the waitress asked about it when she returned and offered to give me a take=home box of just the rice. This was nice of her, but at that point I was just done. She gave me a "20% discount" for the rice bowl I barely touched. If it had been more than $5 I would have made a stink about it, but I just wanted to leave so I gave them their $5 for the so-called food and my friend paid her $30 and we left. Yes, you read that right. $30 for her glass of water, edamame and one sushi roll. I am not from St Charles, but I will not be back here on future visits. It was too expensive for sub-par food and "ok" service. I sugest you skip it and go somewhere else. read more

Quality has definitely declined throughout the years. My husband got very sick after eating here a couple years ago but we decided to give it another try recently. My mistake was ordering for a pickup on $6 Tuesday. I arrived about 10 minutes before my order(placed at 1pm for 6pm pickup) was originally due for pick-up. I then waited for 40 minutes until my order was ready. Annoying but they were busy. I double checked with the host that everything was in there(as he checked the order) and he said yes. Came home, TO THE WRONG ORDER! We were tired and hungry so we dealt with it. Food was just okay. I contacted the restaurant the next day and reported the issue. They asked for my number and said they would get back to me, but dead silence since. If a restaurant can't handle the business, then they need to make some changes...don't keep scheduling pick up orders or have a cut off time or just a better, more organized pick-up system. read more

I got home from picking it up to open it and find it was the wrong order, even though the receipt on the bag handed to me had my name and correct order on it. (For reference, I ordered the Firecracker and Stuffed Avocado app, what I received was something with salmon and another thing with what appeared to be shrimp tempura). I called the restaurant to see if there was anyway I could be refunded the difference (since it was about half an hour to close and I live 25 minutes away). The person who answered was very kind and assisted in a refund for the mix up. The customer service was great and their presentation for even to-go orders is lovely, even if it happened to be mixed up and I got the wrong thing. We had the appetizer combo-2pc Gyoza,veggie egg rolls, shrimp tempura and crab rangoon served with 2 different types of sauces, both were ok, did not add much to the dish. We also had the "Girl on Fire" Crab mix and shrimp tempura. The presentation is very nice, we waited until the flames burned out and proceeded to eat, we had no other condiments, so we had to ask for wasabi and ginger to go along with the soy sauce, I thought would be something they would bring with the plate. The miso soups and salad came out 15 minutes or so before the waters and we had to even mention that we needed our drinks which was kind of annoying but not a big deal. Soup and salads were great. This is where it gets bad, we wait another 45 minutes from our soup/salads for the food to come (including sushi roll). It took so long that we were both getting really agitated and were worried we would miss our movie- and we gave about 1.5 hours before movie time for dinner. Food comes out- my boyfriends is totally cold- I took a bite and the chicken was really cold. My shrimp dish was fine and was actually really delicious. The waitress came around and we mentioned his dish was cold- she proceeds to argue with us and tell us the cook had just made it. First of all why are you arguing with us, that's terrible customer service, second of all, that's fine, maybe the cook did just cook it- but back to the main issue, it's cold so it doesn't really matter. Regardless, we ask to talk to the manager who is equally terrible in resolving the situation. She doesn't really apologize and just takes 15% off the bill after I even mention that the food came out after 45 minutes to an hour when the restaurant is half empty. I have been to thousands of restaurants and when something has been half as bad as this, restaurants have gone out of their way to resolve the situation- whether that be the food came out later than normal or was undercooked, whatever. Being a service industry- this is huge. And this place is about a -100 on this scale. The food can be mediocre but if the service is amazing, you better believe I'll be back. This made the service super fast, but the food was honestly just okay. I ended up ordering the Wasabi Rangoons and Egg Rolls as appetizers, then ordered the Philadelphia and Vegetable rolls. The rangoons and egg rolls were hot, but didn't taste as great as I was hoping. The sushi was also just mediocre, unfortunately. I do have to say that their happy hours & specials are SUPER cheap! You can get basic rolls for around $4. Despite being somewhat disappointed by the food, I will most likely give another location a try in the future! read more
