The atmosphere at Washburn House feels more like a prison or a psych ward. The main issues are understaffing and a complete lack of care for mental health. There's hardly any time to enjoy fresh air, except for the occasional smoke break. On the positive side, Washburn House did make me think more positively and motivated me to continue my journey of sobriety in different ways. Mainly because I don't want to go back there, period. As soon as I checked out and found sober living accommodations and a plan to stay sober, I was treated rudely. I wasn't even allowed to pack up my stuff into my suitcase. I came out of there with a "good luck chuck" from one person. Some of the staff members were rude, but most were amazing and kind. They made the place less scary, and I've even made friends with some of the other alcoholics there. When they get out, we have each other's numbers, and I hope I can continue talking to them so we can support each other and stay sober. As for the accommodations, if you don't mind the mice or a plastic pillow with someone else's blood on it (which I brought up to a staff member, but nothing was done about it), then this is the place for you. I miss some of the staff and the friends I made there, but I've already had nightmares about this place since I left. If anything, Washburn House has succeeded in my sobriety journey by making me never want to return to a place like this. If you can do outpatient, I would highly recommend it. I wouldn't recommend inpatient at all. Like I said, apart from a few bad apples, the staff is very nice and tries to make you feel more comfortable, but it's damn near impossible to be comfortable when you feel like you're locked up in a prison cell or psych ward, especially when hardly anyone sees you about anything and they're understaffed for caseworkers. Everyone's journey through sobriety is unique. Their preferred drug or drink of choice varies, but ultimately, we're all addicted to something. Some are more severely affected than others, and I wasn't one of those cases. If you're not completely hopeless, don't come here. read more

Very good program, but when someone wants to leave, I think they should fight harder to keep them there. All they do is threaten you that you can't come back for six months and then let you go. If somebody had tried to convince me to stay, I would've stayed.. This is my only complaint and I guess the detox area is a little bit grimy, but that's very minor.. Almost not worth mentioning. This place is a joke. It's not a detox or CSS at all. It's everything except that. My girlfriend went here to detox from alcohol, she came out addicted to the benzos they were giving her as well as all the opiates that were being passed around the house. What kind of place doesn't check the patients belongings and person before going into a place to detox. They literally let a group go out to cop dope, then let them back in. I can't even go on with the ludicrous absurdities that this place gets involved with. If you want to get sober, don't go here. read more

I just read all the reviews.... I spent over 30 days there and was ok with the treatment with the exception of the case workers who could not hold control of a group. Staff was very good and I was treated very well. this is not a hotel as many people think. its a f..... rehab no special accomnadations are required.... The website boasts of how great they are but let me tell you not so! My brother went to a different hospital for detox and then referred here by his insurance. The first time we called, they could not find his referral. We were told they would call us back that same day. Never received a call. We called again the next morning. Still no referral received even though we called the insurance back and they told us yes, it was sent and received by them. The girl was very rude and then proceeded to tell us that he had to go to the hospital to get cleared. Well, he just left the detox and had all of the discharge papers so why? No explanation. Again, very rude. What happens is the person with the issue, gets frustrated and just quits asking for help. If you are going to answer the phone at a rehab, you better like talking to alocoholics and junkies because let's face it, that's who calls! Don't work there if you can't take it. read more

I brought my daughter to Washburn house for alcohol detox. They were rude to us as soon as we walked in. I left my daughter there and went home hoping she would get help. I was no sooner home when they called to say they were sending her to the hospital to be medically cleared because she had high blood pressure and a fever. Never told me the name of the hospital or anything else. I NEVER received another word from them!!! My daughter was discharged from the hospital and left to her own defenses. Washburn house refused to take her back! When I called Washburn house I was told she was "not allowed" back there! I asked why and they said " she called a nurse a bitch" . I asked why I wasn't called and told she wasn't allowed back the response was " I don't know". Really!? You called to tell me you were sending her for medical clearance but you can't call to tell me she's not allowed back!?? All because an intoxicated girl called someone a name!?? If you can't handle it DONT WORK THERE!!!! My daughter Ubered over an hour home while detoxing and wound up in yet another hospital for the night. If they had called me I would have arranged for placement somewhere else and had been at the hospital to get my daughter. WASHBURN HOUSE SUCKS!!!!! NEVER BRING YOUR LOVED ONE THERE!!! Washburn is very dirty. They put you 3 to a room. You share dirty showers and bathrooms. I love ALL the nurses. The case managers are a boys club. Very condescending. The women techs are phenomenal ! Especially Nick, Is full of crap and tries to manipulate and extort money! He lied called my family behind my back. Malcom also dim witted liked to be on his cell and tried to also extort treatment. He thinks addicts are not as intelligent as he is. He may have a complex as he is dim witted. Now,,, AJ! I would have stayed if I knew he was there! He is all about the client. It is my fault I left, however, AJ WOULD have been my lifeline. He saved my life. When I saw him I WANTED recovery. I trust him instantly he has the qualities to run the show. He was my spirit.... I'm old not dirty way.... he is the real deal. I felt saved as soon as I saw him. FYI. .... I succeeded at a 30 day because he never lied. I succeeded because NEVER LIED! He saved me. Washburn House is exactly what Worcester has been lacking all these years. It's a comfortable environment, counselors are great, and groups are meaningful. I wouldn't hesitate to send my loved one here. read more

It's a very nice place.Very clean plenty of good food plus a good amount of smoke breaks.The nurses are nice so are all the staff.Everyone is uplifted.The last person said it was dirty that's not true.Trust me there is much much worse places.This is one of the best especially if u only have mass health.They literally saved my life.Thank you Washburn House. read more

So I never write reviews but anyone considering going here and looking at reviews of different places I would like for them to see this, I went here after I had been clean for about a year and 7 months, arcade down is Rhode Island was the first ever detox/rehab I had went to in very early January 2019, I decided after I relapsed in June 2020 I would get checked into Washburn before I fell even deeper down the hole, well, I had heard awesome things about Washburn and to be honest everything I heard could not be farther from the truth, first off if you're a girl the guy staff will hit on you and flirt with you basically 24/7 and pretty much ignore the guy clients m, while their ignoring you they will put you down and make you feel like shit in front of everyone, second, I asked to start my treatment as I was feeling sick right before I was going to go to bed and I was interrupted by a staff member (wish I got his name but I was feeling way to shitty to worry about that to be honest) and the staff member basically told me I was only there to get high and that I had, and I quote, "a junkie mentality"...yes I was told this by a STAFF member, not a nurse or a director just someone sitting at a computer not doing anything, third l, if you ask for anything like a comforter for your bed of toiletries the staff makes it seem like you're asking for the most difficult thing in the world to get, and last but not least I was apparently 1 min past a cigarette break and was denied to be brought out even though for the next 30 mins the guy that denied me sat at a table with three young, like maybe 18 year old girls and was visibly hitting on them that is where I drew the line and left and went to adcare in Rhode Island, their staff is amazing and their programs are crazy good between group meetings and counseling they actually care about you getting help and getting and staying clean, bottom line I would never recommend Washburn especially if you are a woman, I have waited a week and a half to write this review as well so I did not write it out of anger, this is just as truthful as I can be and I want anyone seeking treatment to get the best they can have and this place is not is what so ever...good luck in finding help and remember you can get clean and stay clean people believe in you!!! read more

i was a client at washburn were i believe the level of care for clients should be a lot better due to the way i and the other black and Spanish kids were treated.Then when addressing the issue it was told to us that it would be taking care of but like time and time before brushed under the rug.never mind the sex between the female and male clients was unbelievable this house needs to be shut down or forced to be run different. read more
