I told them no and immediately took the car to another shop. the car passed inspection in less than an hour without any issues! apparently the free inspection is offered so the service department can fleece you when you get there. I will be reporting this to Penn dot and the PA attorney general.

Do not trust their Service Department…read more TLDR: Charge you $200 to diagnose issue with vehicle, provide incorrect information and then argue with you when you want your $200 back. So here's what happened. Purchased the vehicle in June 2018. Have done the majority of service at the dealership, all fluid changes, few mechanical "shift to park" issues after warranty expired, but nothing major. On 12/13/25 my 2017 GMC Acadia broke down and wouldn't move. Had the vehicle towed to the dealership to at least figure out what the issue was, figuring it's the worse case scenario. Sure enough on 12/15/25, service advisor Mark calls to ask what is wrong...i guess the notes never got to him from when I called in on 12/13 that it was getting towed in. Explained the whole situation of what happened with my vehicle when it stopped moving, said he'd get back to me. A short time later Mark calls back and says, bad news. It's your transmission and it's going to be at a minimum $8,500 and we have no time frame of when it can be repaired. The immediate panic of, well lets find a rental car until I figure out what I am going to do, where else can possible look at the car, who else can I trust, what will it cost. Do I just trade in (they offered me $1000 "as it sits"), sell the car to someone who might want to put the money into fixing it? I just had no real idea what I was going to do. Take a breath and start to call around. Talk to a few mechanics who were recommended to me and some others of what transmission shops are in the area that are trustworthy. They all said the same thing. I don't think it's your transmission, I think you have a broken axle based on everything you have stated. That's a pretty big difference in diagnosis. After a few days of calling around and waiting on some responses I get through to a different garage on 12/19/25. I have the vehicle towed at lunchtime to this shop for them to diagnose the issue, but before the vehicle can leave the lot, I need to pay Riverview GMC $204.05 for their diagnosis on the vehicle. Hate to be out that money but I just want to figure out what I am doing with my car. Vehicle arrives at new shop by 1pm, and within 20 minutes of it arriving, they call me to tell me that right now the issue is a Broken Axle and until the axle is fixed they can't diagnose if there is a problem with the transmission. That shop is upset for me because of bad info from the dealership service, and me I'm not overly pleased either. Shop explains they will replace the axle and then do their tests and we'll go from there. I call Riverview, ask to speak to Mark, to get a better understanding of what was done with the diagnosis. "We hooked it up to the computer, stated the car and it wouldn't move / go into gear." I asked, did you get it pulled into the garage and look under the car to do a visual inspection. "No, the car wouldn't move." I explained that their diagnosis was wrong and that if they got it put onto a lift, they would have seen it was a broken axle. And because of their improper diagnosis, I would appreciated if I could be refunded the $204.05. I was told no. Things got a little heated with Mark, and that is when I got to speak to his supervisor Dave. I started out calm with Dave. Explained the whole story (and if you are still reading, I'm proud of you) and explained that I don't think it's wrong that I be charged $204.05 for an improper diagnosis when the axle has to be fixed before the transmission can be properly evaluated. Dave then asked, if he gives me the money back and if this transmission shop finds and issue with the transmission that I repay them the money, since they technically weren't wrong. My return spin to him was if you properly diagnosed the vehicle, then I would have had it fixed at the dealership and maybe been out a vehicle for a day or two, and not in a rental that I was paying nearly $400 out of pocket for. After a few minutes and a call back from Dave, I did get the $204.05 back from Riverview, and Dave asked that I let him know how things turned out with the other shop, and I did. Remember when I mentioned that the other shop had the vehicle around 1p.m. Well at 4:10 p.m. on 12/19 I get a follow up call from the Transmission Shop that my vehicle axle was replaced and all of the tests they did on the transmission, including driving it around for a while they feel that nothing is out of place. Total cost for their repair. $450.50 and it was done in about 3 hours. Dealership had my vehicle on their service lot for 5.5 days, with no timetable for repair and a minimum $8500 charge. I'm glad I asked around (and would have anyhow) but I just wonder how many people they have taken advantage of at Riverview. I'll never go back there for anything and neither should you or anyone else you know.

The issue started out with the car having multiple mechanical issues within the first two days. I initially tried to go down in person and contact them but the only thing I received was a door shut in my face and no return phone calls. By the end of May I contacted an attorney as well as a dispute with my bank. Currently the company has made multiple public post saying that they have contacted me and attempted to work things out with me such as offering to pay for the repairs or returning my money but while they have posted this publicly on Facebook I have not received any actual communication from them since May 31st. I have asked them to provide proof that they tried to contact me on their end with a date stamp including but they still cannot provide that information because it did not happen.
