They take the time to explain everything they are doing and tell you what to expect was while completing all of the eye test A few years back, I had cataract surgery performed by Dr Chen and was happy with the outcome. Went in early morning for eye exam, I had been going to Coal Creek Vision but switched insurances. Went in early morning, first appointment, got my eyes checked out and Dr . Chen started checking eye pressure and dilation and told me that my eyes were dilating differently, my eye pressure was an issue and that he thought I was going to go blind due to early glaucoma. I freaked out and went to a 2nd doctor in Bellevue to get a 2nd opinion and did full eye scan as well as checking my eye scan from years ago from lasik AND went back to Coal Creek again for eye exam. Both doctors said there was nothing wrong, eye pressure was under 21 which is good and no other issues, 20/15 vision. So whatever was going on with Dr. Chen, it left a bad taste in my mouth that I was told my eyes were going and I would be blind due to an issue that two different eye exams proved was wrong diagnosis. always get a 2nd opinion read more

In the past, I've given Dr. Chen excellent reviews, but after today, such is no longer the case. I'd been his patient for years, and saw him last two years ago, but last year, his office refused to give me an appointment, whining about Medicare/Medicaid's reimbursement rates and speed of reimbursement, so I went to see someone else. This year, I made an appt to see him again, and no one said anything to me about any changes whatsoever. I drive three hours to see him because I liked him so much, as I live on the Olympic Peninsula. The exam was strangely over sooner than usual, and he said he would give me a new Rx for eyeglasses, as both my distance and reading vision changed. Then when I went to leave, they demanded $48, and I refused, as I said as a dual-eligible, I'm not required to pay, and they claimed Medicare no longer pays for refractions, not acknowledging or discussing Medicaid at all, and I said I live on a fixed income and cannot afford to pay, and the time to tell me I'd be charged $48 is when I called to make the appt. Charging someone, esp someone who drives three hrs who's been a long-time patient, is inappropriate, greedy, and an unfair business practice. They refused to give me my prescription, so they're holding my prescription hostage, which is endangers my eyesight. He refused to write it off and refused to give me the prescription, so I intend to file multiple complaints against him, multiple negative reviews, and post it on social media. This is what the healthcare industry in this country has deteriorated into in this country. Doctors no longer practice medicine, they practice insurance. It's pathetic and hurts the population of citizenry in this country that are the most vulnerable, seniors like myself with aging eyesight. Dr. Chen has turned into a greedy, Bellevue, East King County typical doctor who only cares about money. He should be ashamed of himself. read more

Dr Benson Chen is such a great ophthalmologist that I drive all the way from my home near Green Lake to come see him. He's patient, calm, and knowledgeable when it comes to answering the multitude of questions I have about my poor, nearsighted, eyes. His office is clean and well-equipped, feels very new (and it is), and I never have to wait too long to see him. I would highly recommend him for great eye care. read more

I was seen by Dr. Chen and he was great. If I were to use my experience as his patient (and his alone), I would rate this higher. I had a very traumatic experience with his staff following my clinic visit. A month ago, I went in for a bout with corneal abrasion which has been bothering me for a long time. Before Dr. Chen, I was seen by one his techs/nurses who performed a very thorough eye exam. As always, I brought my husband with me into the exam room. Everything was fine and dandy after that visit. Fast forward to just a few days ago, I receive a phone call from the staff who did my eye exam. He was calling using a private number and well beyond clinic hours. At first, he seemed genuinely concerned about how my eye was doing. And then he started urging me to come in for another visit--which I did not want and which I didn't think I needed. When I felt that he was pushing a little bit too hard, I said that maybe my eye is not at its 100% because I still haven't gotten one of the medications that they prescribed. He then said that he could drop it off in a place right across our apartment building. This raised a very red flag; he insinuated that he knew exactly where I lived and, because he called me, he also knew my personal number. Again, this was well beyond clinic hours. It was safe to assume that he looked into my medical records and took my demographics with him for personal use. After we put the phone down, he sent me a bunch of inappropriate text messages. I have reported this guy to the authorities and the clinic to the Dept. of Health for HIPAA violation. BE CAREFUL COMING HERE. read more

I see Dr Grazko and she's fantastic. If my rating were based on her alone, I would give it a higher rating. They are very thorough and I received very good care here. Here's the not-so-great: My first visit, I got there early, but they took me nearly an hour late. I was told that there was a mix-up and the staff didn't show up. So, no one knew what they were doing. The guy doing all the eye tests was very nice, but he said he didn't know how to operate the equipment. YIKES! They were running so late, I nearly missed my flight and I had scheduled plenty of time. After the visit, I was told that the person at the front desk doesn't know how to schedule appointments, so you have to call in. This is quite inefficient. On my second appointment, when I was going to check-out, the receptionist didn't show for a long, long time, so I left. Other things that are inconvenient: They call to confirm, but they make you call back to confirm, instead of just leaving a confirmation message like most doctor's offices. The last time I visited, I called back to confirm my appointment, but got the voicemail. I left a message. I got another call, asking that I call back to confirm or my appointment would be canceled. I called AGAIN and left another voice mail, confirming my appointment. I was beginning to get stressed out that I had to keep calling and worrying about them canceling my appointment when I clearly confirmed it. Anyway, in the end, it got confirmed, but not without some worry from me. And then, finally, Dr. Grazko is in this office once a week. Not the most convenient. read more

i think they specialize in insurance fraud. They billed my insurance for service that I did not request nor was informed about receiving it. When I called them and visited their office they promised to fix my bill but never did. Unless you want this headache stay away. read more

Dr. Benson Chen is our angel of eyesight! I had very bad eyesight worsened by cataract. I followed the principle of "Don't fix it until it breaks." Finally that day came. I moved here from out of state just recently and did not have a primary doctor yet. My insurance wants a primary doctor's referral for a specialist. It was very difficult to find a primary doctor as a new patient. I told my insurance my difficulty and was allowed to see an ophthalmologist in the network without a referral. I got one who listed at the top of eye doctors on the insurance network list. I visited her as a new patient who ended up dilating only one of my eyes. When I reminded her, she said "Make another appointment for the other eye because you complained of floaters in the right eye ONLY." However, she later charged my insurance for a comprehensive checkup. She diagnosed that my cataract was very ripe and hard and needed a very tough surgery as soon as possible and told me to come back to her for surgery after I saw one of her retina specialists. To be honest, I had reservation to see her again, let alone for my eyes to be operated on although the diagnosis scared me. In despair, I prayed and prayed. God works wonders always. I did find help in nurse Liana at Swedish Primary Care in Bellevue. She was very, very kind and understanding and immediately recommended Dr. Chen. She herself has been a very satisfied patient of Dr. Chen's for many years. Thank you, Liana for helping me to find my angel! On my first visit 3/14/19, we found the office was clean and well-organized and the staff members were all very friendly, hardworking, and efficient. Dr. Chen listened very attentively my medical history and did a really long and comprehensive checkup using all kinds of equipment. His diagnosis: my cataract was of average ripeness and surgery could be done now or later when I wanted. He referred me to a retina specialist. My husband and I were both very impressed with my first visit. Dr. Mandingo did a thorough examination on my retina and on my cataract and confirmed Dr. Chen's diagnosis that my cataract was of average ripeness and could be done now or later if I wanted to. To make a long story short, Dr. Chen and his staff members did everything possible to make my surgeries a great success. While I was opening my eye the second day after my left eye surgery, I was stunningly ecstatic by an extremely bright world as if I were in heaven: everything was so crystal clear and so beautiful without any trace of that old yellowish grey hell. What a wonderful world! My mother gave me life and Dr. Chen my eyesight. We, my husband and I, will always be thankful to you, Dr. Chen. You are our angel of eyesight! read more

I have complete trust in Dr. Chen so we went ahead and scheduled an eye lift for my one left eye that was hindering my vision. We did lots of tests prior to surgery for confirmation - which were good. Then my eye surgery went pretty good. Dr. Chen even called me after my surgery to see how everything was. I've been coming to check up on my eye for any issues. Dr. Chen is very efficient and has excellent bed side manner which seems to be going away nowadays. I highly recommend him. read more

I had a terrible experience at Washington Eye Care. I scheduled my appointment as an eye exam. The exam went well, and the only concern that Dr. Chen brought to me was dry eyes because I do computer work all day long. However, he said that it doesn't need any treatment, so I didn't received any treatment, prescription eye drop, or follow-up appointment. I thought this was a preventative eye check until I received my bill. They billed my insurance a medical condition diagnosis instead of preventative care. When I called them to merely ask questions, the office manager was extremely rude and asked me if I was just looking for someone to yell at. I was so shocked by what she said since I am just trying to understand why they billed my insurance that way. read more
