I have mixed reviews about this place. The first time I went, it was an actual eye emergency...I slept in my contacts and tore 90% of my cornea (take heed, kids...don't sleep in your contacts). I saw a young female doctor whose name I unfortunately don't recall anymore. She was amazing. Great "bedside" manner, knowledgeable without talking down to me, efficient, etc. So, I chose to make this office my regular eye doctors. Fast forward a year, I have pink eye and I go back. This time I get Dr. Klessman. I've honestly never been made to feel so stupid. He was incredibly rude and was basically running around the office as if it would take too much time to just walk. I really felt like he was trying to push me out the door. For a follow-up appointment, I had a scheduling conflict at last minute so I had to be squeezed in, and I met with Dr. Rosenblatt instead. My experience with him was completely different. He was friendly and seemed like he was genuinely interested in my situation. In my final follow-up appointment, the receptionist wrote the wrong date on my appointment reminder card. I was understandably surprised when I received a call asking if I was coming on for an appointment that I believed was the next day. When I got to the office, Dr. Klessman was rude again, this time about the scheduling. He basically refused to believe that his staff had made a mistake, and when I walked out of there it was most definitely for the last time. On top of Dr. Klessman's unfortunate demeanor, they messed up my billing several times. I am more ready to blame that on the insurance company, but it was definitely a hassle. Bottom line, it depends on the doctor you meet with, but I wouldn't recommend Klessman to anyone. read more

I've sent 3 people from my work to this optomitrist. Iinitially I selected this business because it's located next to my building but I'm glad it's a great place to have your eyes checked here. They had more tests than any other place I've been to and Dr Rosenblatt is up to date on everything about health of your eyes and not just providing you with options to see better. read more

I have been a patient at Washington Eye Doctors for 15 years. Despite them being out-of-network for me, I can't imagine going anywhere else. I have several hereditary ophthalmic concerns and Dr. Rosenblatt (and previously Dr. Klessman) always does a very thorough exam to monitor for any change. I never feel rushed when I am there (which I unfortunately can't say about many other doctor visits these days) and the staff is always incredibly friendly. Vision is a gift and I have always had the utmost faith in Washington Eye Doctors for ensuring that mine stays in tact and healthy! read more

First, the positives. I love the fact that the nurses who do the preliminary testing and intake for each appointment talked with me and took notes by hand. They helped me address my eye dryness issue, which was great! They also use photo imaging and other newer technologies, which made me feel that my eyes were in great hands, so to speak. I always felt that my prescriptions were accurate. However, this office has a lot of administrative difficulties. One time I showed up for my scheduled appointment--with the postcard confirmation they had mailed to me in hand!--and they told me I didn't have an appointment. I had taken time off work to come in for my exam, and I was supposed to have some regular tests done as well. They were irritated as they agreed to work me in, and I got many dirty looks and heard them muttering about how I had showed up without an appointment. The scheduling error wasn't mine, but even if it had been, that behavior was rude. Dr. Klessman saw me, and actually yelled at me when I had trouble with a particular test that involved him touching an instrument to my eyeball. It's understandable to be stressed when a scheduling glitch occurs, but I felt a bit bullied. I recently switched eye doctors because I no longer work in the city. When I called and asked them to transfer my records to my new doctor, they told me they would have to charge me $10 to do so. And then they didn't even send the documents to my new eye doctor--they mailed them to my house instead! Now I have to drive them over to my new doc myself. I've been going to see Dr. Klessman (and Dr. Hahne, when she was there) for nearly three years. They're pricey, I think, but Dr. Klessman is professional, thorough, and prompt. His staff is excellent, and the whole team has been very helpful in addressing my particular cornea condition (keratoconus). I started going there because they were right across the street from my office. Now that they're a 20-minute Metro ride away, I think they're still worth it. read more

Let me start off by saying that I have been a patient of this office for 10 years. I stayed with them because they are convenient and, usually quick. However, I have been waiting a month now and still no glasses. Also, I think that their frames are very expensive and that they "push" you to use every dollar of insurance $ avaliable to you, even if you don't really need the extra pair of glasses or special treatment for the lense. I guess that is VSP's issue though...I"m just tired of waiting for the glasses and will look into alternatives next year. Also, after my last appt I received a bill for $35 (I had already settled up at the time of the appt). When I called to inquire, the staff said it was for something the insurance refused to pay for. The person doing my glasses had made a mistake. I would not have gotten the extra lens treatment had I known I was going to have to pay for it. I didn't feel like I should have to make good on their mistake, but I did. It just burned me. This practice has really gone down over the past couple of years. Guess it must be a turn over in personnel. I'll look for another practice next year. read more

I have been a patient for 15 years and love them. I have seen all of the doctors and they are all good, although I have seen Dr. Rosenblatt primarily. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The location is very convenient. They are a little pricey when it comes to the glasses but I think it's worth it. read more

We love Dr. Klessman. He is so knowledgeable and just a great guy. He discusses advancements in the field and even lifestyle issues that affect your vision, like exposure to blue light, home/office lighting choices, computer usage, and so on. Washington Eye Doctors has all the latest high-tech equipment, but always explains what the cost of various assessment and treatment options will be rather than simply push for the most expensive option. They also have a lovely selection of frames in their optical boutique. read more

Fabulous! I had not been to the eye doctor in years, and this was great! Dr. Rosenblatt was able to fully explain everything in laymen's terms, and his staff is exceptional. Seriously, we had to reschedule our appointment and it was so easy. Earlier I had tried to re-schedule my dentist appointment and it was a total pain. This doctors office is so refreshing, as it is nothing like the rushed service that you get elsewhere. Really fabulous place! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Rosenblatt for over 20 years and he is terrific, as is his staff. I wore contacts for many years, then had LASIK with a doctor recommended by Washington Eye Doctors, and now just wear reading glasses. Dr. Rosenblatt monitors me closely due to a family history of glaucoma, and spends a lot of time with me at each visit. Last year, I got a pair of eyeglasses at Washington Eye Doctors with the new Lutina lenses. These glasses are great, and have really helped to reduce eye strain during computer use. I highly recommend Washington Eye Doctors. read more

I recently ordered a new pair of glasses, in addition to my new contact lenses. Since I am severely near sighted I have never had results that compare with the correction I get with contacts. But Jacob found the exactly correct combination of frames and thin lenses to create the best glasses I have ever had. This office deserves 10 stars. I have been a patient for three years and have always had great appointments. Dr. Rosenblatt is personable, knowledgeable and every exam is thorough. I usually just order contacts, but at my last appointment I purchased a new pair of frames. My prescription is stronger than most, so the lenses tend to be thicker. I loved the frames when I tried them on in the office, but when they arrived with my lenses, they looked terrible. They were very expensive and I was afraid I was going to be stuck with a pair of glasses I didn't like. I called to explain the situation, expecting them to say, "sorry, we can't do anything." Quite the opposite. The office told me to come in at my earliest convenience and they would gladly exchange the glasses for a pair I like. Every appointment has been great and I cannot recommend this office enough. read more

I went to get my annual eye exam. They fixed my initial complaint.

I have very poor eye sight, and my one eye is doubly as bad as the other so it's often difficult for doctors to balance my eyes so that I can see 20/20. Dr. Klessman really took the time to make sure that we went through everything so that I would get the best prescription, the most correct for my eyes. He was very easy to talk to and it was overall just a very enjoyable experience. I feel that he really listened to my concerns and answered any question I might have. It was 100xs better than going to the doctors at the back of some retail glasses shop. I would highly recommend this office to anyone looking for a new doctor. read more

The service is great and they are extremely attentive. However they will go to extraordinary, and almost certainly unethical lengths to ensure that patients nearing the expiration of their contact prescriptions are not able to stock up. After repeatedly telling me that since my prescription expired in a few weeks they could only give me one box of contacts- something that maybe their policy, but is definitely not "regulation," as they put it - they lied to 1-800-Contacts and told them that my prescription had already expired, when in fact it had not. By all means go in for the exam. But get a copy of your contact prescription on the way out and hold on to it. read more

I was very disappointed with Klessman and Rosenblatt. I went there (and took my three kids as well) because I was told that even though they are quite pricey, their service is excellent. Well, after being there for a couple of years (and paying quite a bit more for contact lenses than I would pay almost anywhere else), I was quite taken aback at their rudeness and lack of professionalism when I had an issue that I needed resolved related to my daughter's lenses. They did not return my calls and when they did they behaved as if it was a huge inconvenience to talk to me. Debbie in particular just about accused me of lying to her when I tried to explain the situation. Additionally, it turns out they fitted my daughter with lenses that we cannot get anywhere else in this country (!) without telling us about this limitation. She got used to these lenses and it has forced us to go back despite their rudeness, at least until she can find other lens that suit her. I eventually gave up trying to get the issue resolved. I would not recommend this practice. The extra money that you pay will not earn you any better service or products. read more

Just had my first visit. I am in my early 60's and have long taken my vision for granted. Good vision care is a lot more than getting glasses that improve your vision, plus give you the look you want. I could tell from one visit that this is a practice that I would trust my eyes with. My partner injured his eye and after ER visit, he needed to see a doctor for more complex follow up procedures. I submitted the online appointment application form (office was closed to call as it was already too late), explaining briefly what happened. I received the response 8 AM the next day (from Dr Friedman) advising my partner to go see a different doctor who would be more appropriate for the type of injury he had. In the email they provided all the details and explained how to get seen by a doctor (specializing in eye surgery) asap. Even though we didn't get to visit this clinic and Dr Friedman, we are very grateful to them for providing us with all the information and help on such a timely manner! They knew the time was very important to us and acted very efficiently by referring us to the appropriate clinic! We have seen the doctor at a clinic Dr Friedman advised today, the same day. I wanted to get my eyesight surgically corrected therefore, I went to the Doctor who did Tiger Wood's eyes. After several tests it was confirmed that I was not a good candidate and they referred me to Dr. Klessman. The office claimed they only refer their patients to Dr. Klessman and felt he was one of the most knowledgeable in the area. So far, I have been extremely happy with Dr. Klessman and his staff is very nice. read more

I have been going to Dr. Klessman since 1972. He is an exceptional and competent eye-care physician and I have no hesitation in recommending him to anybody who wants a caring doctor to look after his/her eyes. He always recommends other specialists who are his equal in competence. Last year he recommended Dr. Clinch for my cataract surgery. My excellent vision after he removed cataracts in both eyes is testimony to Dr. Klessman's careful recommendation. read more

The service was fine but Dr. Klessman is pushy. He pressured me into buying these super expensive contact lenses (top of the line 90 dollars a box) and sort of made me feel like if I didn't choose these my eye sight would suffer or something. Clearly he was getting something out of me choosing these crazy expensive contacts which is why I'm sure he harped on it so much. I'm not going to them anymore, and I've chosen a much cheaper brand with a better doctor that I actually like a lot better. Also, I always had to reschedule my appointments because Klessman was on vacation or something. Super inconvenient. So basically, beware of them being a little pushy and inconvenient. read more

Have been a patient of this practice for more than thirty years, predating the current doctors. Have always been pleased with their medical & optical expertise, especially since Dr. Klessman referred me to a retinologist two years ago with threatened retinal detachment. One caveat: if you are thrifty & do not want to pay top dollar for your glasses & contacts, simply request a paper presciption and go elsewhere. My experience with glasses made in this practice was sub-par, so I rely on Consumer Reports & Washington Consumer Checkbook to send me to the best local optician for my needs. read more

I got an exam and bought a year's supply of contacts from this office. I tried to refill the prescription at a major discount from a mail order place months later. Klessman and Rosenblatt had NOT given me a copy of the prescription (as required by law!) after my appointment, so the mail order place had to call them to verify the prescription. K&R would not allow me to buy another year's supply even though the prescription had not expired, saying I had to get another exam. They would only allow me to buy about a month's supply more. I resent this, and feel they were nickel-and-diming me -- trying to get me to come back for another exam even though I do not feel it is necessary at this time. read more

Great, great service! I had a contact lenses emergency and they solved it right away! They were very attentive and helpful.

New-ish to town and couldn't get a good recommendation for an eye doctor to change my glasses prescription, plus didn't want someone who had an office in the back of an optical shop. I wanted real docs with real offices. Drs. Klessman & Rosenblatt have a full suite in a downtown office building. As another Yelper wrote, having new patient forms online to complete and bring in was very useful and they took my insurance. The desk staff was helpful and the nurse/assistant who started me out was extremely friendly, accommodating and informative. Dr. Rosenblatt was just terrific: smart, thorough, friendly and full of advice about anything regarding vision - I never felt like I was imposing beyond my allotted time/topic. Lots of intelligent brochures and printed materials to take home. Top of the line equipment that made some of the less-pleasant parts of the exam stress-free; I hate when they have to touch your eyeballs to do certain tests and I kept worrying about that step throughout the exam. When he said I was finished, I asked whether he was going to take that test and he said he had already done it! Glasses with new prescription were promised within two weeks and they met the deadline. I can't say much about most of the medical professionals i've encountered in this town, but Dr. Rosenblatt and his team were top-notch. read more

I rated the office five years ago and I'm still incredibly pleased with this office. Dr. Rosenblatt is still great. The office and optical staff are still great. The glasses are still pricey (but they've got a great selection and since I don't need to replace them often, I don't mind it in light of the overall service and professionalism of the office). I was referred to this eye doctor by some of my colleagues and was heartened by the positive reviews but unfortunately I did not feel like I was in good hands. I had several eye issues I was worried about and during my first appointment I felt reassured that we would find an answer to what was going on. When I came up for my follow up, I was asked all the same questions I had been asked from my first appointment and rushed out being told I should use eye drops. I agree with an earlier reviewer that you should look at your bill very carefully. I was shocked by how many line items were billed for my five minute visit and then they attempted to sell me ridiculously overpriced glasses. Do not go here. A waste of time if you need anything more than a basic eye exam. read more
