On March 18, 2026, I met with Washington Memorial Gardens to discuss purchasing a headstone for my mother. During that appointment, I was told I could not proceed with a purchase unless I had the photographs for the headstone at that time. Because of this, I asked another Washington Memorial employee whether I was allowed to purchase a headstone from an outside company. I was told that I could, and I was provided with the required size specifications and the fee that Washington Memorial would charge. Relying on that information, I purchased a headstone from an outside company on March 21, 2026. Beginning March 25, 2026, Washington Memorial Gardens has delayed the approval process. The first issue raised was the inclusion of my mother's middle initial. While her death certificate does not list a middle initial, her driver's license does. This discrepancy was used as a reason to delay approval. After weeks of ongoing delays, I was recently informed that Washington Memorial Gardens changed its policy effective April 21, 2026, and now requires all outside companies to complete a new application. This policy change occurred after I had already purchased the headstone and while the approval process was already underway. Applying new policies retroactively has caused unnecessary delays and added stress during an already difficult time. I acted in good faith based on the information provided to me by Washington Memorial Gardens and am requesting that my headstone be approved under the guidelines that were in place at the time of purchase. read more

the office was not very helpful, the burial site care is not great, many grave stones are covered under grass. I've been there multiple occasions and still haven't located the right grave. I would be very careful allowing them the honor of caring for your loved one grave site. read more

Rude and condescending staff, both on the phone and in-person. Staff had no professionalism during our time of bereavement. I wasn't looking for sympathy or empathy, I was looking for good customer service, what you would expect from any business, but certain members of their staff failed miserably. If I as a customer present with kind energy, then why am I being met with impatience, horrible attitudes and hostile energy. It was almost as if any questions asked, whether big or small were a bother, just plain rude. I also feel like if your loved one already owns a plot at this location, they try to give you the run around. They made me jump through hoops, almost as if to scam me and get more money out of me. They tried to cast doubt on the paperwork I had to prove ownership of said plot and requested signatures that were not required. Needless to say in the end, those signatures were not provided because I held firm that they were not needed to prove ownership of the plot. If my loved one had not already purchased their plot at this location, I damn sure would not have laid my loved one to rest here. I really wish we could have went elsewhere, but it is what it is. When people are burying loved ones, emotions are running high. They will surely have many questions during this high stress time period and sometimes may have to ask the same questions a few times. People are trying to carry out the wishes of loved ones all whilst grieving themselves. If you as a staff member work in this type of industry and cannot understand that, then maybe your in the wrong business, this is unacceptable, this place needs to definitely do better. read more

The worst experience from beginning to end! We were promised two burial plots and when we came to pay only one was available.Then, the headstone could not be purchased because of delays out of their control. I was understanding and polite until they told me that Christmas decorations that I paid for were on my fathers gave and it was not. I called and spoke with Delilah and Felice. Delilah was helpful. Felice was not. She is condescending and dismissive. This is the worst cemetery. If I could give less than one star I certainly would read more

I would've given zero stars if I could have. My 69 year old mother attempted to ask the office where her mother was buried at...only for the door to be locked during business hours. Upon knocking on the door, the rude and nasty lady that works there ignored her. The lady continued to talk on the phone, laughing and smiling while simultaneously ignoring the knock and doorbell rings of my mother. Eventually she acknowledged her, hollered and threatened to call the police. Sadly, mother was unable to visit my grandmother's plot for her birthday. read more

DISGUSTING, and DESPICABLE establishment. I have never seen such dreadful customer service in my entire life! Felicia, who is the manager is the most unprofessional, incompetent person to ever deal with. She has given out wrong information on more than one occasion so I feel confident in saying she should not be managing any establishment. She is so dreadful that the 3rd party company who actually created the headstone to be shipped to Washington Memory, ended their relationship with them due to her unprofessional. The entire staff consistently gives out incorrect information which has caused my family nothing but grief as we look to put a headstone down for my Grandmother. I am so disgusted with this place that if I could dig up my Grandmothers grave and take her somewhere else I would! My Mother has had the most difficult time with this place, and given the fact it is her Mother adds so much emotion to this. Horrible, Horrible experience today 2/20/2023. I was treated so bad by the woman in the office. She was on the phone and would not answer the doorbell. I waited outside in the cold because they keep the door locked which is understandable in this day and time. She wouldn't get off the phone and she screamed at me that she was on the phone. I saw her on the phone, but I think if she had raised her finger to say wait I would have felt acknowledged. But, her first thing was to scream don't you see me on the phone stop making all that noise. It went downhill from there. When she got off the phone she went into another room stayed in there for about 5 minutes. When she came out she came to the door and told me I wouldn't be getting in because I was too loud. I lost it. I said what the heck is your prob? My mother laying in her grave and you playing games. I called her a batch and a f e w other choice names. I don't act this way normally. I just wanted to visit my mother on her born day and lay her flowers and balloons. I didn't get to do this cause she called the police on me. I left not wanting to deal with the racism I had just experienced with her. I guess once you have paid for the grave they don't have to treat you with care and compassion anymore. Never will use them again and you should read the reviews. SMH read more

The grounds are not kept well. There are sunken headstones and deep holes arond several of them. Hazardous situation for anyone walking through to visit their loved ones. read more

This is a beautiful cemetery nestled in the South Suburbs of Chicago. I have unfortunately had to deal with the staff of this cemetery twice in the last three years. However, each time they made a sad occasion somewhat easier to handle. I am at ease knowing that my loved ones are resting in such a beautiful place!!! read more

I!m glad that my wife and I picked washington,iloss my wife in dec 2012 we were together for forty seven years.it is very hard without her .I!ve missed two days since dec 5th I!m there every day because it helps me to feel a little better with the greiving.It is well kept, like one would keep a home.the staff is nice and very profess ionalThe grounds keeper are freindly and appear to take pride in there work. read more

After visiting a few cemeteries in the area, it was obvious to lay my family in washington memory gardens. The grounds are so well kept, staff is professional and polite and always understanding. Might me a littler pricier then others around but its worth every penny knowing my loved one is resting in peace at a beautiful place. read more
