Washington Square Dermatology is across the street from the park in a lovely town house. Entering the building felt almost like I had been invited to an elegant dinner party rather than a treatment facility. Yet I was not surprised by any of this. The simplicity of my initial call for an appointment foreshadowed my experience. It was just ten days away unlike hospital-based programs where appointments were ten months away. The front desk staff were polite and professional. After providing the prerequisite clinical information, I was escorted to a clinical examination room, vitals were taken by a very pleasant and professional staff clinician and within minutes Dr. Susanna Franks entered the room; my name is Susanna, she announced herself--very casual yet professional. Paraphrasing, "What brings you to Washington Square today?" Providing her information about my medical concern, I added I had been treated by a hospital affiliated dermatologist for two years but continued to experience the same medical problem. A colleague suggested I look into Washington Square Dermatology; it received very favorable reviews, she added. (I would soon learn both she and the reviewers were right.) Susanna asked what medical approaches were used in my earlier treatment. I told her exactly what my treatment had been and without being critical, she said, "I would like to get to the cause of what you're suffering from, not just the symptoms." Susanna then preceded to outline a simple but critical treatment plan to learn what might be the cause of my malady. She added, the next time you have an outbreak call us and we will get you in immediately. I was shocked, not at the plan, but rather why my previous dermatologist didn't think in these terms. Not only did Susanna suggest a plan for the presenting problems, but she also made note of a spot on my chest that I had not been aware of. I thought she might suggest we examine that more closely in our next visit. Instead, she said--in so many words--lets biopsy that right now to rule-out any potential serious issues. I don't recall ever feeling more comfortable about treatment for anything than I did at Washington Square Dermatology. I was struggling with hormonal cystic acne since I was 13. I would break out with large, extremely painful acne around my chin, cheeks, and nose that would last for weeks, even months. By the time I was 19, I had visited many dermatologists in my area in an effort to solve the issue, and was met with failure. On the brink of giving up, I did research one last time and found Washington Square Dermatology. Dr. Jaber's reviews exuded success with acne patients, so I decided to book an appointment in May 2015. Going in the first time, Dr. Jaber granted me numerous options, including the infamous Accutane. He was very patient and honest with me as to what I should do, but ultimately let me decide my course of action. Being very cautious, I did not want to rush into Accutane, so I decided to try my other options first. Throughout the next 20 months, I had tried everything under the sun, from being on 7 different medications (topical and oral) to modifying my diet for 3 months. By January 2017, I still had terrible acne. In March 2017, I decided to take the leap into Accutane. I was undoubtedly worried about the effects of taking this drug, but Dr. Jaber reassured me that I would be okay and that we can immediately stop if I received extreme side effects. After a few months in, I started to see differences in my skin; I would break out less and the size of my acne dramatically decreased. Of course I encountered the typical side effects of dry skin and the occasional nosebleed, which merely served as an inconvenience in comparison to the horrifying anecdotes online. Regardless of these side effects, the outcome after finishing my course in November 2017 until present-day is remarkable. For the first time in 9 years, I can say that my skin is clear and in my control, and it's all thanks to Dr. Jaber, Susanna, and the rest of the team. I have never encountered such a genuine and considerate staff that placed patient care and satisfaction at the forefront of their practice. This was for sure a taxing journey, but in every step of it, Dr. Jaber was tremendously patient, encouraging, and empathetic. I would not trade this experience for the world. read more

I had a horrible experience with this medical practice. I called to make an appointment, arrived on time, spoke with the receptionist, who copied my insurance card. She then gave me a tablet to input my info. I am well aware that I am helping them save on data entry costs by doing it myself. But the process didn't bother me until the end when the interface presented me with a credit card authorization form, which I denied. It then allowed me to pay my co-pay fee. Notice that it didn't inform me that I would only be able to see the doctor if I left my credit card authorization. So, I thought it was all ok and handed the tablet to the receptionist. It was only at that point that she handed me a paper credit authorization form, which again I rejected. They had several opportunities to volunteer that information--the fact that they are requesting that patients provide their credit card and authorize it to be billed whenever there are any insurance issues, which may include delays and what not. They didn't tell me that they impose this extraordinary protocol on their would be patients when I setup my appointment, nor when they took my card, not when they handed me the tablet, but only after I paid my copay and wasted all that time. I found this to be unethical to say the least and consider indicative of the consultation to come. I then declined to be seen by the doctor, requested the reimbursement of my co-pay fee, informed the receptionist about the impropriety of their practice and left. read more

BEFORE BEING A DOCTOR, DR SAMER IS A CARING HUMAN BEING! I was for a consultation today with Dr. Samer. It was my first time here and I came based on the reviews. I have some purplish scars from the acnes of hormonal origin. I suffer from polycystic ovaries syndrome. After consulting him, I was really impressed. If another doctor would have gone ahead and recommended laser treatment ( the cost of which is about $2000 for a few sessions), this doctor saved me this money by recommending to treat my polycystic ovaries issues first, try some cream he prescribed and IF the above mentioned didn't work, THEN I should try laser. He said it's pointless to start the laser treatment unless I treat the very origin of the problem- my hormones. He saved me money, time and energy, quite unlike an aesthetician I used to go to, who recommended getting facials followed by glycolic acid, which didn't yield any results but only emptied my pockets. I'm writing this review to give some feedback on his honesty. That's it. When I try his treatments ( I hope I won't need them after I go to the very core of the problem- my hormonal disbalance), I will update again. P.S. I am a very picky person and I don't trust reviews. Either people lie or they are pushed to write reviews. I went for a full body laser removal at a lady who had 67 ( 5- star) reviews and I'm extremely disappointed from her service. I visited Dr. Jaber's office for a procedure, the office put me with Dr. Michelle Park. Her bedside manner was very unsure, fumbling and awkward. It was as if she and her assistant were inexperienced and were trying out their processes on patients. I felt that I should not go forward, but I didn't listen to my instincts. I was in surgery sales for 8 years with a Fortune 10 company, so I am well aware of what the gold standard of care is. I utilized a top dermatologist in another state and was seeking a new physician in NYC. After a bit of fumbling - tray placement- sterile instrument placement, my large purse was on my lap and she did not ask me to move it, etc.. basically said to "tilt your head back" - I opened my eyes to see an archaic instrument, a razor blade. Shocked, I said stop, expressing my discomfort. She said she could have new instruments if I wanted to come back. She could place a quick order. I declined. Upset, I went home to check out what was under the bandage in good light. She had literally carved a hole in my skin on my face! I could not believe this! I called the office and talked to Dr. Jaber himself. He was not sympathetic, nor did he ask to see photos, ask me to come back in, further questions etc. Beware- I have a scar that other dermatologists have called "nasty" and an odd shape due to the margins she cut. Had my first visit today and was impressed with Washington Square Dermatology. The place was clean and modern. The receptionists were friendly and very helpful. I first sat and spoke with a PA about my problem history. She was attentive and asked probing questions to get a better idea of past medications that worked and didnt work. After we spoke for about 5-10 mins, she left so Dr. Park could speak with me. It was clear that the PA had relayed important information to Dr. Park so she was caught up on my history when she entered the examining room. She was also very attentive and explained some of her thinking behind suggested course of action/treatment. I appreciated her clear answers and taking the time to really speak with me about the problem and answer questions. I didn't feel rushed through our appointment at all. After deciding on a course of treatment Dr. Park had the PA come back with a print-out of the specific plan in case I forgot (which with all the information we discussed was super helpful). They sent over the prescriptions quickly (I got a call from the pharmacy maybe 20 mins after my appointment!). Overall I really felt comfortable at this dermatologist office and look forward to my next appointment! read more

I saw Dr. Jaber for the first time last month and again today, and have been super impressed with him. I found him through Yelp and the Zoc Doc site (where I found my general doctor, Dr. Ramani- see my review). I was looking for a doctor with a pleasant bed side manner as my old dermatologist didn't have the best personality and Dr. Jaber's reviews are good. His office is really nice but more importantly very clean. The check in process uses an Ipad to enter in your information on the first visit, which took a little bit of time, but was fine. Dr. Jaber was great. He was super friendly and professional as was his assistant Grace. His bedside manner was so much better than my last dermatologist. I also really liked the fact that he didn't try to push any expensive creams or cosmetic things which I wasn't interested in. More importantly he took care of my problem with the creams he gave me. He gave me samples of one, and a coupon for the second cream which made it free! I came back today for a new mole on my neck that I was worried about, but he reassured me it was nothing to worry about, and again the entire visit today was excellent. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about both the practice as well as Dr. Jaber. He is a top rate physician, and his staff is not only competent and efficient, but some of the nicest people I've dealt with in any medical practice. I came to him as a peri-menopausal patient, experiencing cyclical cystic acne. It was both painful and devastating to my self-confidence. We thoroughly discussed options and decided on an extended course of lower dose Accutane. It was not an easy decision for me- I am a medicine-phobe, and was fearful of what I had heard about this strong drug. Dr. Jaber was both patient and informative, answering all of my questions- and there were many! His bedside manner gave me the confidence to proceed, and it was a successful venture. I owe him a debt of gratitude for both his kind demeanor and the confidence he displayed that gave me the ability to actually give this medicine a chance. It has worked beautifully. My first apportionment with Dr. Jaber was for an hormonal acne issue I had few years ago, which he helped get rid of. This year, I decided to look into getting fillers and botox. He was extremely patient and took him time explaining the process and different options, and what to expect. Dr. Jaber listens, asks the right questions, provides recommendations, takes his time explaining, and is honest. I know he wasn't all about $$$ when I wanted some additional filler and he strongly advised against it. I'm new to the botox and filler world, so I really appreciated his honesty and guidance. I trust his judgment. He has a down to earth personality too! He's such a sweetheart, easy to talk with- he makes me feel comfortable and at ease. The staff is also friendly and professional. Very easy and quick to book appointments ... the waiting area, examining rooms, and bathroom are nice and clean. I recently spoke with Julia, the office manager, to help facilitate a telehealth appointment for my husband, who has been a long-time patient of Dr. Jaber for over 15 years. Due to a recent lower extremity surgery, my husband is currently unable to ambulate. Unfortunately, the interaction with Julia lacked the kindness and compassion one would hope for--especially in a healthcare setting. As an advanced practice nurse, I deeply value professionalism and empathy in patient care. I was disappointed to experience a dismissive tone and the sense that my request for assistance was an inconvenience. Dr. Jaber has always provided outstanding care, and his commitment to excellence is why we have remained under his care for so many years. A year ago I was suffering with severe rashes all over my body and legs. I sought two very reputable dermatologists. One is the chairman of dermatology at a major Manhattan hospital. Both physicians were pleasant. Neither was able to successfully rid me of the serious and frightening skin issues I was dealing with. I sought out Dr. Park through the internet. She was professional, pleasant, intelligent and passionately caring with regard to my dermatologic pathology. After taking the much needed time to assess my skin she diagnosed and gave me an encouraging prognosis. She then prescribed medications for 8 weeks. I was totally compliant. That was followed by my skin becoming 100% successfully recovered. She also performed other skin procedures which ridded me of warts. I have recommended Dr. Park to family members and friends. I highly suggest that if anyone is looking for a dermatologist they seek out Dr. Park. read more
