When I walked in all three service counters were occupied with a customer. I waited for about four minutes to be served. The lady was really nice and really helpful. It took about five minutes to obtain my new vehicle tags. They have a surcharge for those who use credit cards. Check out their website for details. They also offer a separate door on the far right of the building for those who want to pick up their tags which can be requested via their website. They make it easy. I highly recommend.

There's a bell in the middle of town to ring if you spot a whale in the water. Of course I rang the bell regardless and everyone started saying "where??". LOL. The waterfront is very nice and peaceful. The islands in the distance make for some scenic points. The town itself has a quaint feeling to it. While walking thru town, stop for some seafood in any of their restaurants or pick up a souvenir in a gift shop. This whole stretch of water and scenery is part of the Langley Loop and the last portion of Whidbey Island before you get to Clinton to take the ferry back to the mainland.

Wonderful warm city…read more An attractive downtown with an old-timey charm anchors the economic life of this charming small town. A few bookstores, cozy cafes, artsy shops, a few pubs highlight the main street. The occasional visit of a cruise ships can temporarily increase foot traffic. The close proximity to the water makes it extra special. Go Uptown and explore the quiet streets and pretty houses. I really appreciate the dedication homeowners put into the gardens. There is a little shopping area with a handful of shops and restaurants. Worth a visit. Other favorites are visits to Fort Worden and North Beach .

For those who can access the base, there is a small Navy Exchange and barber shop for your essentials. There is a robust MWR office and marina here. You can rent recreational equipment and get discount tickets. There is a pretty impressive single sailor program to keep you entertained and occupied in your spare time. All in all, a nice smaller surface ship base.

The all brick buildings with green roofs is what gives me that impression. Most bases have random looking buildings scattered throughout the base. They appear to have ample parking which considering this is a carrier base is unusual. The base admin buildings are easy to find and they have a decent amount of direction signs to help you find sites. What is lacking is with the Exchange. It was on the puny side and had minimal items for sale. I was surprised for the amount of people that can be at the base they the NEX would be so small. The food court is sad and despite being here on numerous occasions I always eat out in town.

The only real reason for me to write a review about this bridge is the neat Fremont Troll that…read morelurks underneath it. The website www.roadsideamerica.com describes it best: The Fremont troll took up residence under the north end of the Aurora bridge on Halloween 1990, and hasn't left since. He was sculpted by four Seattle area artists -- Steve Badanes, Will Martin, Donna Walter and Ross Whitehead -- for the Fremont Arts Council. The head-and-shoulders sculpture is 18-ft. tall. The shaggy haired troll glares southward with his shiny metal eye -- a hubcap? In his left hand, he crushes an old style Volkswagen beetle (which originally contained a time capsule of Elvis memorabilia; removed after the car was vandalized and the California license plate was stolen). There are plenty of places to pose, and interaction with the troll is encouraged. Troll. The community pays tribute to the troll every October 31st with a mobile "Trollaween" party, starting under the bridge and wandering to other funky art sites and events in Fremont. Of which there are plenty: Fremont is also home to the Largest Lenin statue in the US. The troll achieved more notoriety in 1998 when the a man shot a bus driver and ran the bus off the Aurora bridge, crashing on top of an apartment building. The building is adjacent to the troll, and was reported to get as much attention -- for a while you could still see evidence of the impact. I have attached photos of this neat concrete monster under the end of the bridge. If you are looking for this "landmark", just head towards the Fremont Library and look for Troll Ave.

In and of itself, the Aurora Bridge, which connects Queen Anne to Wallingford and Fremont, doesn't…read moreseem to be anything particularly special. Concrete, steel, paved, elevated. It wasn't until I crossed it on foot on Christmas Day 2005 that I found an appreciation for it. Deceptively tall, spanning both land and water, the Aurora Bridge is unnerving and exhilarating both. There is an amazing view to be had from the middle of the span, with the Cascades far to the east, the Olympics far to the west, a long finger of the Puget Sound below, and sky stretched above. You'll be hard pressed to find a more expansive place to stand and appreciate the beauty of Seattle and its cradle. For me, the waist-high wall separating pedestrians from short-lived aerial showmen served to remind just how thin the margins can be between life and the absence of it. Indeed, the so-called "Jumpers' Bridge" is deserving of its title. As I reached the Queen Anne end of the bridge, a single piece of faded and wind-torn 8 1/2" by 11" printer paper was taped to the railing. On it was the name of a 38 year old man, Victor A. Mitchell, his birth date, the date of November 5th, 2004, and the promise that he now slept in the arms of God. Leaning over the railing from that place and looking down to the concrete parking lot far below was strange. The Aurora Bridge would be a perfect conduit for quiet contemplation, if not for the steady stream of cars flying noisily by. A clear and moonlit midnight hour would be an excellent time to cross. Or indeed, perhaps, Christmas Morning, when most automobiles are resting idly, the streets are quiet, and your own crystallized breaths dance in front of your face.

It's got like an old 1950/60's décor feel. It's a beautiful large structure that basically takes up most of the corner block. It kind of reminds me of a New York style police station, which might be a bad or good comparison however you may look at it. There are quite a few steps to get inside and I don't remember a wheel chair ramp being available. Don't quote me on this because it's a post office so there is probably handicapped accessibility on the other side of the building. A wonderfully built building. The people inside are just a nice. Probably the nicest I've seen in a post office but I don't hate on post offices. They provide such a service especially since so many people don't really use paper mail anymore if they don't have to due to technology. Oh! There is parking galore as well.
