Took the ferry twice yesterday. Both times the boarding process (via car) was really easy. The ferries have indoor and outdoor areas where you can grab a view or you can sit in your car. Bathrooms also available and clean.

As any Washington resident can tell you, Ferry Docks (hell, the Ferry Service itself) are hardly worthy of rating. For the most part, they're all the same: well-trained support personnel to ticket, assist and direct drivers as they line up their vehicles to board the next ferry; adequate waiting and parking facilities to accommodate vehicles with reservations, as well as those who may need to standby for another ferry; clean (not quite rest stop quality) restrooms; and dry, serviceable, no-frills walk-on passenger waiting areas equipped with self-serve ticketing kiosks. That said, located in a wildlife preserve next to Whidbey Island's historic Fort Casey, the Keystone-Coupeville Ferry Dock features an absolutely gorgeous backdrop -- especially at dawn, sunset and during the evening twilight hours.

So clean and the area is calm, peaceful and so fresh. Staff were all very friendly, can't wait to go on the ferry again.

Ugh!!!! I feel like it's next to impossible to get a reservation unless you do it weeks in advance. Ain't nobody got time for that. Idk what I'm doing the next day half the time. Anyhow. The ferry it self is great. Getting on it however is another beast. Trying to head over to go camping and we are going to end up waiting half the day in the standby line. I feel like they should run more ferries on a Friday.

As per previous peeved reviews swearing and groaning about how bad this ferry line is, I've never had a problem...why? BECAUSE I MADE RESERVATIONS! I made reservations knowing how busy this ferry line is. I've read on some forums where people have to wait three hours before they can get on. Depending on how early you show up, you may or may not have to leave the ferry area. I always show up way too early and have to drive off the ferry landing but I'd much rather wait around at my own leisure and return, rather than having to be stuck in a hot car with a bladder full of pee and stomach raging with hunger and bratty kids screaming are we there yet!! If you go to WSDOT website, it clearly tells you to MAKE RESERVATIONS. Even the signs on the road leading up the ferry landing say MAKE RESERVATIONS! The website even tells you when the ferries cannot cross due to low tide so there's no excuse for not knowing ahead of time. You can easily get reservations online and way ahead of time. If you miss your reservation time you'll have to wait stand-by. WSDOT is generous enough to let you change your time but you'll have to do it in advance. No-show and get charged the no-show fee. WSDOT even sends a text message to your cell phone to remind you of your reservation date/time; how easy is that! This ferry ride was longer than the Mukilteo to Clinton ride so we got to poke around a bit more and actually got to enjoy the ride. The ferry workers are all very friendly, fast and efficient. The ferry is on time, it is clean, efficient and a convenient way to travel from Coupeville to Port Townsend. Oh, and....MAKE RESERVATIONS!! You're welcome.

Taking external factors out of the equation--like late airline flights, heavy traffic on the I-5 and 405, or the possibility of only one ferry running between Mukilteo and Clinton--the shuttle has been consistently on time or early almost every trip. The drivers are knowledgeable and friendly, with the exception of one who suggested I sit in the back because I was traveling with a cat. The service is incredibly convenient from both SeaTac and Paine Field. For those flying Alaska Airlines, the walk to the shuttle stop might be a bit longer, but with a little planning, the wait is minimal. I do wish Paine Field was easier to fly into, as it would save time compared to the shuttle ride from SeaTac to Coupeville. For $50 one way (plus an optional tip), the service is worth every penny. The shuttle is always the first vehicle to board the ferry, and the quick 15-minute ferry ride is seamless. The shuttles are comfortable, and I noticed they added a new vehicle during the 2024 holiday season. As long as I continue visiting Coupeville monthly, the Whidbey-SeaTac Shuttle will remain my go-to service.

The location is on the dock on front street above an ice cream place. The staff is super friendly and appreciated my early arrival. We got a short talk about safety and what to expect. Then we donned suits to keep us warm and dry. Tip: use the hat they offer and gloves. The hood doesn't keep the wind from making your ears cold without holding it tight around your face. I ran to the dock and met Captain BJ who would be working with Allison our guide. The was helpful and allowed me to sit up front. I was more excited than a kid on Christmas morning. The boat starts and we leave the harbor. Then we started going really fast which was so awesome! We saw a sea otter playing in the tide current. There were harbor porpoises. But the steller sea lions were enormous and stunning. They were subbing themselves on the rocks. The piece de resistance was the orcas! A pod of orcas was hunting a lone steller sea lion. We must have sat there over an hour. Other boats gathered and we all watched. I'm not shy in admitting I was deeply moved. I cried a bit at how awesome this experience was and seeing beautiful orcas was on my bucket list. My favorite part was that this is a small business. They are locally owned and have a focus on conservation. The boat pulls water from the ocean to propel itself forward which means no gas, propeller or noisy engine that stresses out whales. We stopped to remove a mylar balloon from the water. I love when people practice what they preach! We continued and saw more eagles, rhiocerous ocelot, and more harbor porpoises. By the end my heart was full. Captain BJ said this was his second favorite trip of the year this far. I beamed all the way back to the office to return our gear. Tip: go to the whale museum when it opens at 11am then come here to see real whales. Do this whale watching tour! Best bang for your buck you will ever get!!

We had amazing opportunities to view a variety of wildlife ranging from bald eagles to otters to several species of whales. The team's knowledge about the whales was truly remarkable- including knowing individual whales' histories. We can't thank Western Prince Whale Watching enough for this experience that we will look back on and treasure!
