View straight out of the front door of cabin 9
Mitch H.

We stayed in cabin number 9. Very cozy and clean place across the street from the water. Great view out the windows and front door of the bay. Plenty of space to sleep a large group. There is only one bathroom though and it is shaped oddly; but works fine. Large table for playing games but the chairs are very uncomfortable. Space to grill outside, but I'd bring your own grill unless you want to use the "park style" metal grills they have on site. Quiet area, especially at night, and WOW do the stars come out at night if it is clear out. You just may find god or whatever you believe in staring up at the night sky here as we did in September. Great place, friendly staff, would stay again!

Considering roughing it & digging for clams w/ eldest sis. We ended up being lazy just waiting for dad & eating BBQ...

A place called... John Wayne's Waterfront Resort A few years back when my mom was still shining her star on earth she planned a camping adventure to surprise my dad for his 200th birthday. The party included my parents (2 of 2), five of their children (5 of 7), four grandchildren (4 of 12), then "5' foot with slippers on" mom invites my "hānai" brother who stands at 6' foot 7" inches even near a Grizzly. So now you know we need more than just a tent. Luckily for guys like me who never plan anything in advance... mom already booked 2 cabins to fit the Flintstones, the Rubbles, & a snoring Grizzly... Once we loaded the parental van, the sisters SUV, and whatever car we could muster up... we leave the suburbs of Seattle to a place I know little about called Sequim located on the coast of Puget Sound in Washington. So after a few city pit stops, bridge crossing, and ferry riding we head over to the cabins and the smell of clams... A place called... John Wayne's Waterfront Resort Yup, it's named after legendary Hollywood actor, John Wayne. Here's his story: "John Wayne frequented Sequim Bay aboard the Wild Goose and bought a big chunk of land in the area. He would get excited about picking blackberries in the PNW and said there was nothing better than bourbon, steak, and blackberry pie. He envisioned a marina in the scenic bay and The John Wayne Marina was constructed on 22 acres of land donated by the John Wayne family. The Wayne family still owns 150 acres in Sequim, where 'John Wayne's Waterfront Resort', is located steps from the Marina..." A place called... John Wayne's Waterfront Resort In the end, my family roughed it up the best we could in the cool Puget Sound of the PNW, sans the lumberjacks & werewolves. And no, don't expect a resort from the "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" here. It sure wasn't the conventional laying on the beach shirtless or exploring a 15th century convent like I'm used to, but it was a special rustic type memory that will forever be with me: cabins (w/ old kitchens), clamming, picking blackberries, playing board games & chatting til midnight. So that's the story of my family's association w/ John "the Duke" Wayne. My mom was certainly sweet as an angel in her lifetime, but heck tough as "the Duke" too... I miss mom dearly, but she's always in my memories & forever in my heart...

This is not a modern RV park with full amenities. It is older, all gravel, on a hill side, and only 30 amp electrical. However, the view is what this park is all about. John Wayne loved this area, donated the land for the gorgeous marina across the street where he kept his boat, and built this RV park which his family still owns. We are doing our bucket list of camping in every state and this is by far the most gorgeous place we have ever been. It is not the easiest place to get to with an RV as the roads tend to be winding and tight, but it is certainly worth it. Most sites are pull-through with full hook-ups, but there is an overflow area without hookups. There are also cabins and a tenting area. They even do outdoor wedding receptions. Check out the restaurant at the nearby 7 Cedars Casino - great food. Thank you to the very friendly camp hosts.

We lucked out and called last minute to see if they had any spots for our 27 ft motorhome and she had a cancellation so we took it! We had spot #4 which was right in front so it had a beautiful view of the bay. You do have to cross the road to get over to the water. But definitely beautiful. We went to dockside grill for dinner which is always a hit. And you just walk the path from the rv site.

Excellent staff from the office to maintenance to cleaning crew. Always helpful & friendly too!! Accommodations are excellent. We have camped in tent spots, visited in our rv, and stayed in the cabins- highly recommend them all!

The spectacular view from our cabin.

Our room was the smallest I believe at $175 a night, kinda pricey but you are facing the awesome bay views and can walk the beach with the stair access right across the street. They allowed dogs $35 per night extra so that was another perk. It was all self contained with kitchen but the fridge was an inconvenient mini fridge yet a full size stove/oven & microwave. The queen bed is also in the small room. Bathroom was tight with no shelves to unpack makeup/personals, no tub just shower. It did have a carport with bench and table/chairs for warmer weather. It did have a huge nice tv although tricky to use. There was a none big lawn area behind the cottages that offered hot tub, toys, bbqs, fire pits and kayaks etc to rent w/ life jackets. We were basically alone for the 4 nights, only saw one staff member on first day. Internet worked fine. They include a kierig w/ k-cups which was nice. I was wishing I'd brought paper plates as they just had 2 heavy ceramic plates but had most basic necessities for cooking and eating, even spices, paper towels, dish and hand soap plus toothbrushes. Overall it was pleasant stay, just tight quarters, a bit pricey and noisy bed.

Dungeness Bay Motel gets 5 stars from me ... filled in and glittered over with a kiss on top…read more I've been a guest for several years. Although there are many newer, more luxurious, and more amenity-rich properties in Sequim and Dungeness, the simple charm of this property and the kindness of the hosts (John and Karin) keep me coming back. Situated like sets of side-by-side duplexes, the guest rooms are cozy and super clean. There are televisions, free wi-fi, and full kitchens but no telephones. Each cottage has its own parking space and carport for your car and bicycles. There is a pasture behind the property where cows currently graze amid the backdrop of the Olympic mountains. The front of the property are panoramic views of incredible sunsets, the bay, the Dungeness Spit, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, British Columbia, the San Juan Islands, and on and on. There is a nice bbq on the property that's available for guests to share. At night, it's pitch black and dead silent. The beauty of this respite from urban assaults on the senses can take getting used to by folks who have forgotten how magical this type of stillness is. I love nighttime walks with flashlight looking for deer. Deer are everywhere, literally, day and night. John and Karin are excellent resources for places to go and things to do if you're new to the area. They're honest and discriminating and won't steer you to a place just because it's popularly touristy; if it's not good, they'll tell you so and give better recommendations. I love this place!

They have several units to choose from, but we chose the "Perch", which was the largest. It didn't disappoint! We didn't even use half the space! Currently, check-in is anytime after 2:00pm. We checked ourselves in and upon entering, found a spacious "home"! Divided by a set of stairs, there is a murphy bed (sleeps 2), bath & shower, dining area and full kitchen to the left. On the dining table was a lovely note addressed to us by the hosts Craig & Michelle, accompanied by a bottle of wine and a bowl of granola bars. Then, in the refrigerator, there was a nicely adjourned box nestled with yogurts, orange juice, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, a small bottle of Prosecco (for mimosas) and chocolate! We turned around and on the kitchen counter was a plate of local pastries! In the room on the other side of the stairs is another bedroom (sleeping 2-3), king bed, full bath and sitting area with coffee maker and coffee pods. Downstairs by the front door is a living room with TV, comfy couch & chair, wet bar, small fridge and washer/dryer! As everyone knows, with a home or business, there will always be times of repair and/or construction. Currently, the upper deck is being repaired, so we weren't able to take advantage of that. Instead, we took a long walk along the water, watched the eagles soar overhead, waved at people passing by and enjoyed the fresh sea air! Eating at local restaurants is always a plus and enjoying wine in the evenings watching the sun lower gently on the horizon out of sight made this trip, along with our fabulous hosts, Craig & Michelle, all worthwhile. Thank you for making our local getaway a special one!
