Wonderful place and people! Nice little playground for kids and picnics! Very relaxing. Washer and dryer very inexpensive. I stayed here on my way to Forks and on my way back. . Conveniently located by a nice main street and casino. It has a Kroger affiliate, if you use fuel points. If you want someplace fancy go somewhere else. If you place that's more like camping and making family memories for the kids, come here! read more

We generally stay at our family's cabin when we're in the area, but if not, this is our top choice to stay. Right on the picturesque harbor and marina, next to the forest and hiking trails. There are just 9 cabins (currently $199 for 1 bdrm, $229 for 2 bdrm and $269+ for 3-bdrm). They are simple, but comfortable with electric heat, bathroom w/ shower, little kitchen w/ coffee maker, dishes, silverware, pots, pans, microwave and linens, and living area. And each has BBQ grill and picnic table, plus cable TV and wifi (luxuries we don't have at our family cabin up the hill. There are also about 50 RV sites, and 8 tent sites along the river; those are about $42/night and include restrooms, shower, laundry, etc.. There's also some nice amenities: beach volleyball court, horseshoes, and fire pits/ fire rings. We booked several cabins here for family for our wedding 31 years ago, a cabin when our kids were little about 10 years later, and just booked 3 cabins for next summer for our niece's wedding. We stayed in cabin number 9. Very cozy and clean place across the street from the water. Great view out the windows and front door of the bay. Plenty of space to sleep a large group. There is only one bathroom though and it is shaped oddly; but works fine. Large table for playing games but the chairs are very uncomfortable. Space to grill outside, but I'd bring your own grill unless you want to use the "park style" metal grills they have on site. Quiet area, especially at night, and WOW do the stars come out at night if it is clear out. You just may find god or whatever you believe in staring up at the night sky here as we did in September. Great place, friendly staff, would stay again! read more

The staff was friendly, the grounds were wonderful, facilities very clean. Playground, horseshoes, little store and right across the street from the beach and marina. Will stay here again when camping in the area. We were in a tent but opted for an RV site on the grass so we could have electricity. No problem getting that type of site in a tent. A place called... John Wayne's Waterfront Resort A few years back when my mom was still shining her star on earth she planned a camping adventure to surprise my dad for his 200th birthday. The party included my parents (2 of 2), five of their children (5 of 7), four grandchildren (4 of 12), then "5' foot with slippers on" mom invites my "hānai" brother who stands at 6' foot 7" inches even near a Grizzly. So now you know we need more than just a tent. Luckily for guys like me who never plan anything in advance... mom already booked 2 cabins to fit the Flintstones, the Rubbles, & a snoring Grizzly... Once we loaded the parental van, the sisters SUV, and whatever car we could muster up... we leave the suburbs of Seattle to a place I know little about called Sequim located on the coast of Puget Sound in Washington. So after a few city pit stops, bridge crossing, and ferry riding we head over to the cabins and the smell of clams... A place called... John Wayne's Waterfront Resort Yup, it's named after legendary Hollywood actor, John Wayne. Here's his story: "John Wayne frequented Sequim Bay aboard the Wild Goose and bought a big chunk of land in the area. He would get excited about picking blackberries in the PNW and said there was nothing better than bourbon, steak, and blackberry pie. He envisioned a marina in the scenic bay and The John Wayne Marina was constructed on 22 acres of land donated by the John Wayne family. The Wayne family still owns 150 acres in Sequim, where 'John Wayne's Waterfront Resort', is located steps from the Marina..." A place called... John Wayne's Waterfront Resort In the end, my family roughed it up the best we could in the cool Puget Sound of the PNW, sans the lumberjacks & werewolves. And no, don't expect a resort from the "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" here. It sure wasn't the conventional laying on the beach shirtless or exploring a 15th century convent like I'm used to, but it was a special rustic type memory that will forever be with me: cabins (w/ old kitchens), clamming, picking blackberries, playing board games & chatting til midnight. We've been coming to this Camp ground for the last 4 years, we normally book 3 to 5 campsite for our annual friends camping trip Cons: no privacy Pros: clean and friendly campsites, free firewood (only if they are able to chop down a fallen tree), close to Marina. Clean bathrooms and showers. Recommendation: tent camping is great if your not into privacy the location is mainly a RV park, super friendly host and if you have a boat and license tons of crab available. read more

I've known about this place for decades. Visited the marina ... driven by ... but never stayed here. And I can't tell you why. But in January I saw an advertised cabin special on Facebook and thought it would be an affordable hiking getaway with a couple other gals so I booked a few days. I was unable to find gal #3 who could take the 3rd bed and day of arrival the other gal cancelled, so I enjoyed a spacious two-bedroom waterfront cabin all to myself. So much so that I extended my stay for three more nights! I peeked in most of the nine cabins and found them all super clean and tight, comfortable-looking and fully appointed. My cabin was spacious, extremely clean in and out, including the windows, corners, window sills, under the bed, tv remote, curtains, etc. (props to housekeeping), well-appointed, sunny, and just perfect. The beds are very comfortable and are supplied with fluffy comforters and Pendleton wool blankets (the dog friendly cabins don't have these blankets). The cabin held heat so well that I often opened the door -- and it was snowy and freezing outside. The staff came to check on me a couple times to see if everything was ok / if I needed anything, etc., and they sincerely seemed to care. That was really nice. There is a shared fire pit behind the cabins. Each cabin has a water-facing picnic table outside grill. Winter evenings are silent and dark, peaceful ... perfect. Single travelers (men and women) you can feel safe here. Plugged? Don't count on the wi-fi. There is tv. But why come here to be plugged in? Just why? #Unplug #GoOutside The Olympic Discovery trail (140 miles from Port Townsend to La Push) is right up the road and it's about an hour to walk to town. You can also walk part or all roads to town. Lots of cycling opportunities. You literally can park the car at your cabin and not turn the key again until you leave. You can also simply hang out at the cabin with the Sequim Bay and just BE. The marina is just around the corner and the marina seagulls are extremely used to people. Everything you could need (grocery, post office, coffee houses, restaurants) is within walking distance of this location. There are RV hookups and tent sites, too. I've already booked my second stay. And look forward to many, many more. read more

This is not a modern RV park with full amenities. It is older, all gravel, on a hill side, and only 30 amp electrical. However, the view is what this park is all about. John Wayne loved this area, donated the land for the gorgeous marina across the street where he kept his boat, and built this RV park which his family still owns. We are doing our bucket list of camping in every state and this is by far the most gorgeous place we have ever been. It is not the easiest place to get to with an RV as the roads tend to be winding and tight, but it is certainly worth it. Most sites are pull-through with full hook-ups, but there is an overflow area without hookups. There are also cabins and a tenting area. They even do outdoor wedding receptions. We lucked out and called last minute to see if they had any spots for our 27 ft motorhome and she had a cancellation so we took it! We had spot #4 which was right in front so it had a beautiful view of the bay. You do have to cross the road to get over to the water. But definitely beautiful. We went to dockside grill for dinner which is always a hit. And you just walk the path from the rv site. read more

John Wayne's Waterfront Resort is a well maintained and wonderfully located RV park on the western shore of Sequim Bay. The campground is nestled between a forest and the bay. Easy walks all over the place. The grounds are well maintained, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Also, if you're into John Wayne memorabilia, then their small camp store is the place for you. It's packed with John Wayne plates, mugs, shirts, and more. It's pretty packed in the summer, so make sure to make reservations. That said, they accommodated us last minute in their overflow summer spots (limited hookups, but pretty spots). Wifi is pretty much non-existent (as it is pretty much at all campgrounds), and the Verizon barely hit LTE, so limited internet. Overall however a great experience, in a beautiful part of the Olympic Peninsula. We certainly would select this park again next time we're in the neighborhood. read more

The cabin we stayed in was perfect! Although the name says 'rustic' cabins, the cabins at John Wayne's have more amenities than I find at a state park cabin- hot indoor running water!! Full kitchen with dishes! Super comfortable queen bed with soft sheets! Tracy in the front office was knowledgeable and helpful. Our cabin was very clean. The best part is the amazing million dollar views. We will definitely return. read more

We stayed in cabin #7 for five nights before July 4th. We had a great time! The cabin was clean, the staff were very nice and helpful. It's rustic, but that's what we were wanting. GREAT views of Sequim Bay! It was so lovely waking up to the boats in the bay every day. When the tide goes out mid day we could go digging for clams and our children, ages 10 and 11, had a blast! The water is shallow enough to swim fairly far out but I would recommend water shoes because the beach is full of clam shells! We bbq'd steaks and made most of our meals, and had just about everything we needed, apart from tinfoil. They call it a resort because there is horseshoes and badminton and some other games available to guests, and some other amenities. Everyone in the adjacent RV park were quiet. All the staff were super friendly. There is also a marina across the street where you can fish, go crabbing, or rent kayaks. Just a note about Sequim, it's a retirement community and not a lot going on. There's not a lot of choices for restaurants and things close early. But it was relaxing and peaceful and beautiful. read more

Contrary to some of the other reviews, I didn't think this place was that nice. The location is great - right across the street from Sequim Bay. But the RV park itself is old with sub-standard hook ups. Sewer hook up was on one side of our RV while water and electric hook ups were on the opposite side. Sites were gravel and not level which I know is typical. But the way the park is situated, the afternoon sun was beating down on the side of our rig that we would normally use for outside activities meaning we spent very little time enjoying the outside. Our entire space was gravel and nearly dead grass. The spaces on either side of us and pretty nice concrete patios so you never know what you are going to get. Showers were pretty bad too - looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a while. I would not use them. Probably won't stay here again. read more

Pros first. It is very quiet. No road noise and quiet people staying there. Staff was pleasant. Cons. Showers were filthy and you had to have quarters to take a shower. Don't charge me $38/night to park in a spot with no hookups and then expect me to use quarters to take a shower. Charge me $39/night and let me take a shower without having quarters. Spots are very close together and the grass was mostly dead. Just a very dirty place to stay. I will not stay there again. There are better places to stay in the Sequim area. read more

Do not trust their policies on refunds! They refused to refund the appropriate amount even though I canceled more than a month in advance. I realize it's been tough but it's tough for us all! They don't return phone messages or respond to emails. read more

Made a reservation for 2 nights and as our trip progressed we decided to see if we could extend our stay to 3 nights. Called and the space reserved was unavailable for the 3rd night. We were offered a different space and accepted. We paid for a full hook up space, water, electric & sewer. When we were directed to our spot we found it to be only water and electric with a porta potty nearby. I called the office and asked if the price was lower and was told it is a 50/30 amp spot, so no. We have a small trailer and only use 30. They would not refund any money and said that those spots are the same price. I was very disappointed, we are elderly and having a sewer hookup is a necessity. I would not stay there again. read more
