I love love taking the ferry! It always feels like I'm going on an adventure. The ferry terminal here is always a great place to drive into and the people so nice. Easy and simple to do. Just listen to the drive into the correct aisle of cars. They have a system and you just need to pay attention. The ferry itself is clean and warm. I love going outside for the views. On this trip to I did not as the temperature had dropped a bit. So I stayed inside. The cost is not much as I have a small vehicle. Great way to get to Whidbey island. Do it! Go in adventures. The ferry is equipped with a food court area with the basic comfort foods. The soup is my favorite. This day I rode the ferry to explore Skein and Tipple. It's just a 10 minute walk up the hill. Maybe you need clearer signage... There are 2 lanes that go to the same place but then all of a sudden it's one and the other one is for drop offs. This was my first time, I am from Oregon. Never encountered this service. Got to the island the long way, GPS led me to the ferry on the way back. By the time I figured out there is only one lane to the terminal, the safest thing I could do was cut in line. It was not on purpose. It would not have been safe making a U-turn. I still cut in line far away from the terminal. So I sat there waiting for a while too. I drive up to the booth and some rude female employee with long grey hair tells me someone reported me as cutting in line and I have to turn around and go to the back of the line. At that point, I asked her how do I avoid the ferry altogether? She literally rolled her eyes at me. Thanks for the attitude! Really encourages people to come back to your area and spend money. Oh and thanks to forever reported me, I love snitches. Maybe look at the license plate and see if someone is not local and maybe cut them some slack. As someone that lives in a tourist town myself I can vouch that we treat tourists in our town much better. Oh, and I was told by a shop owner in one of the towns that sometimes the wait time for the ferry is three hours and sometimes, they don't run all of a sudden because there are not enough workers to run them... Good to know. Definitely will keep that in mind when I'm deciding if I want to come back here and is it worth the long drive because I sure am not gonna be taking this ferry. Fast trip to Whidbey Island. Easy to follow ferry lane as you work your way down to the terminal. Payment was fast and efficient to line us up for loading. We hadn't utilized this terminal before, but things went smoothly. Once parked we must've missed the announcement we were pulling away, as I only knew once I noticed things moving. The ride is quick, almost too short as I'd barely gotten up to the platform to take in the sights before I heard the announcement to return to vehicles. Unloading was fast and efficient as well. Although outdated, the onboard lounge and restroom areas seemed clean. Overall a great way to save some time getting to the island. read more

This ferry is pretty neat, didn't know what to expect and just winged it. During peak hours I can imagine that lines can get backed up. Please note that this ferry terminal is a 45 to 50 minute drive north of Seattle and not in Seattle proper. My visit took place last Monday at around 12:45pm. For now, ferries run every 30 minute starting from the top of the hour. Luckily, there was no wait and the toll booth staff quickly explained how things work and which line to go to. I opted to bring a car and was advised to drive to the upper ramp of the ferry, that was a bit nerve-wrecking since this was my first time. Round trip for 2 people and a vehicle was $27.50 Once I parked, I was free to move about the ferry. The ride went by pretty quickly of about 20 minutes. There's even a bell that rings with an announcement to return to your vehicle. There's a staff member directing traffic for when cars deport the ferry. Coming back on the ferry was a similar experience. Overall, the friendly staff will guide you through the process. I noticed that most visitors got out of their cars and "locals" stayed in their cars. The ferry was spotless, including the restrooms. Yes, the restrooms included flushing toilets. Just sufficient time to grab a quick coffee at the snack bar or to use the bathroom or snap a few photos. We visited on a weekday. Puts the Clinton-side ferry terminal to absolute shame! Well-lit, spacious, clean, with gorgeous views of the Sound, the skyline, and some incredible sunsets, if you time it right. Kiosks and helpful staff on hand. The ferry itself is more regular, reliable, and easier to simply roll-up and snag a spot on board, without a reservation, than other terminals. They certainly haven't "muk'd" this one up! Keep in mind, the ferry only takes 10 minutes to cross, so if you purchase anything alcoholic from the galley onboard, be prepared to chug it! read more

We took the ferry to get to an island and it was great. We did have to wait a bit before we could board. Once boarded, it was a quick ride over. They run pretty late and were able to take a ferry on the way back. There are public restrooms if you or the family need them while waiting to board. Wow, what a system. This was my first time on a ferry and my expectations were much lower than expected. First off, the boarding system was seamless. The crew were well trained and they jam packed as many cars in as they could. It was pretty cool to see. If you're a local, you probably stay in your car for the duration, but being newbies to the ferry system we got out and went upstairs to the waiting room. What awaited was much of a surprise to me. Okay, y'all this thing is huge. I didn't know you got luxury just travelling from one terminal to the next. There were tables, chairs, booths. You could literally play a game while travelling across the way. What is this sorcery. Plus, there were vending machines and even a small cafe (which wasn't open). Being from a landlocked state that doesn't have ferries, I was pretty impressed and in great amusement the entire time. This is the way to travel if you're looking to shave off a couple hours of drive time and save on gas money. I'd take the Mukilteo Ferry anytime! read more

The Mulilteo Ferry Terminal is the main way to get to Whidbey Island coming from Seattle. Ferries run daily from 5 a.m. to midnight and leave every 30 minutes. Our small car cost $12.25, including one passenger. For two others our bill was less than $20. The terminal itself has a good system for the flow of cars. We haven't been to this area for five years and were pleased to see the new terminal and organized loading. As we waited to board, however, I realized there was nowhere to buy food and/or drinks to make our wait seem shorter. It's quite a long walk back to the restaurant area that we were used to. There's usually not much reason to review old public-transit facilities. If you need them, you use them--you don't shop around for other options too much. But they've done so much work to improve this one that it's worth calling them out for doing it right. It used to be a couple little cashier huts, a parking lot, and an awkward alley down to the ramp. Now it's a chunk of undeveloped shoreline put to good use, and the old ramp is a mini-park with outdoor seating next to the restaurants. As of this writing, they're still finishing some of the construction, but you can already make your way easily down real roads with working traffic signals, go through real arched ticketing stations (4 open at a time!) and line up in a much less-confusing parking lot/waiting area. What makes this cool is how well it integrates with bus and train service--they stop RIGHT THERE. You can walk (or walk your bike) up through the terminal building and walk on the ferry without fighting the vehicle traffic. It all just flows together. They've made the effort to connect with native nations and commission real artwork for inside and outside the structures, honoring the first residents of the area without being clueless about it. I'm a big fiend for relaxing days on Whidbey drinking wine and looking at the water, so I come through here quite a bit. It makes me happy to see that some of the people working on transit clearly know what they're doing. read more

I took this ferry to get from Mukilteo to Whidbey Island to visit family on my last day in Washington. I took an Uber from downtown Seattle to this ferry terminal, and then I took the ferry to Whidbey Island. Before this trip, I never really understood how beautiful Washington really is. The ferry trip was pretty short--just about 20 minutes or so. I enjoyed the time to relax with views of the water. My only gripe is probably rooted in my lack of navigation skills, but I was confused and frustrated trying to figure out how to get off the ferry. Maybe it was my subconscious wanting to take in the ocean views a bit longer.... Regardless, this service was convenient and affordable and I hope to use it again. read more

The people working the landing from the ticket booth to the ones who direct the traffic (not the boat workers) are some of the most incompetent people I have ever seen. From the lady in booth 2 (older long hair) that can't seem to figure out when there is a line maybe don't wonder off from your window to the others who don't care if someone cuts in line. The Mukilteo Ferry Terminal is a lovely place to wait for the ferry to cross the Puget Sound to Whidbey Island. My parents and I take the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry when going/returning to visit my grandparents who live on Whidbey Island. The wait is seamless here. Waiting in the car is relaxed and there are restrooms to use if you need to. There are dumpsters for you to throw out any car trash from while you wait. Across from the holding lanes there are a few food stops, including Ivar's, shops, the waterfront, and a nearby park you can explore if your wait is longer. The toll booth workers are clear and direct and we haven't ever had an issue coming through here. And once on the ferry, enjoy your ride to the other side! read more

Whidbey island getaway! Yes please. My first time, I went to a special dinner there. It was like 15 course menu, 3 hours dining, 6 months wait!! And nearly missed it because of the ferry wait! I waited 1 hour and 45 minutes!! Not a great first hand ferry experience but since then, I've learned! Always check the time, the wait and the capacity before coming here. Waiting on the shoulder of a highway isn't an experience I want to repeat too often! But now with covid!! It's pretty amazing!!!!! My last ferry to Whidbey island was on a Wednesday! I waited 10 minutes from my tickets purchase to the line to the boat! Pretty good. And they still let you sit up at the passenger deck even in covid. But with Baci! I prefer staying in the car deck. Since the update this ferry terminal has improved so much! Of course it is tradition to grab Ivars whenever we are near one. And the lighthouse park nearby is an old favorite. Who doesn't love a ferry ride? My son is newly stationed on Whidbey Island and this was our first trip to the island~ we went on by ferry and left by Deception Bridge. The ferry is a well oiled machine of an operation! Signage will direct you in the correct lane before you reach the toll stations. We sat in the far right lane for our arrow light to turn green so we could pull up and pay. There are plenty of booths for you to pay for your ride. Cars, pedestrians, bicyclists are all welcome. Once you go through the toll both- they direct you what lane to pull into. We were the last car in lane 2. I can't tell you how many lanes actually fit on the ferry- but we landed on the 2nd deck for parking! We got out and headed up to the pedestrian deck for indoor seating and views of the harbor. There are vending machines, clean bathrooms and the seating is blocked off to keep everyone socially distancing. You can go outside on the deck too- it was rainy, windy and chilly- but we ventured out for a few pictures! Online- it calls for a 20 minute crossing, but it's really more like 15. Short, but beautiful. Before we knew it they were calling for all passengers to return to their vehicles. And just like that our ride was over. Entering and exiting is done in 2 lanes- making it very efficient. I can't wait to return! I could tell this is a major operation for rush hours during the week- good thing it was Saturday!!! read more

This is a well-organized ferry station. We didn't have a long wait before getting to 1 of the 3 pay stations. It cost us $9.15 for a 22' or less vehicle with an adult and an additional $5.10 for another adult totalling $14.25. After paying, we were told which lanes we can line up at. The ferry times are every half hour at the top and bottom of the hour. The loading process was very efficient. There are numerous crews guiding you on where to go. Once you're all settled in, engines are shut off. You have the option to wait in your car, which many did or get up to go upstairs in the waiting/observation area. There are no elevators available -- only stairs. There are restrooms available on this ferry and galley service. Please see the site for schedule and hours. There were numerous vending machines. There's an Ivar's at the station, which many chose to pick up food at and eat on the ferry. There are rows of tables and some tables have puzzles available to occupy your time. It's such a short trip but I managed to put several pieces together on some of the puzzles. There is an observation deck outside on the top deck. I stayed there for awhile. The views are amazing. However, it was January when I rode the ferry so BRRR! I couldn't last standing outside for too long. The offloading of the ferry was also very efficient. We enjoyed our trip overall and highly recommend this ferry to get to Whidbey Island. read more

This was our first experience with the Washington State Ferries at the Mukilteo location and like the other ferry ports, this one was five-star! The workers were friendly, the ferry was clean, fast and efficient and ON TIME. WSDOT.WA.GOV also has a webpage where you can check the wait times, complete with traffic cams, so you know what to expect. Washington state DOT has got their act together!! We traveled in Mid July 2015. I did a ton of research online before I caught the ferry because it was my first time and I was worried (I worry about everything). It turns out I didn't have to worry at all. Here are a list of my then-worries: 1) will I get lost?? (answer: GPS and lots of signs on the road) 2) how do I pay for it? (answer: just drive up to the booth, which is the only way in, and they charge you per car plus driver and any additional riders. In our case, one adult driver and one child = $11.00 one way) 3) how do I drive onto the ferry? (answer: the toll operator tells you which numbered lane to drive into and you just follow the rest of the cars, or if you are first, watch for the ferry guide to wave you forward) 4) do I have to wait? (answer: we missed the ferry by one minute so we had to wait for another one to come by. We traveled in mid-July on a weekday and only waited about a half hour). TIPS: Toilet - Mukilteo has porta potties in the parking lot so be prepared. The ferry itself has a nice clean bathroom on it so if you can hold it, do so. The Mukilteo/Clinton ferry ride was very short. It surprised us. I'd say no more than 15 minutes, so remember where you parked your car or you'll be trying to scramble back and start your engine when people are offloading, and you don't want that. They announce it over speaker when to go back to your car but if you are on the sun deck and wind is screaming in your ear, you may not hear them. Mukilteo/Clinton ferry does not take reservations and there was no need to, unlike the Coupeville/Port Townsend ferry, which I highly recommend if you are traveling during peak tourist season. Beer and Wine on board. Drink on deck only. People complain about the price but I say shut up! They have it handy for any and all booze lovers and alcoholics so be quiet or don't buy it. Sheesh! How the heck do you pronounce MUKILTEO anyway? Official way via Mukilteo Chamber of Commerce is MUCKEL-TEO not MUCK-KIL-TEO. Over the weekend we used the Mukilteo-Clinton Ferry Service. It is always fun to ride the ferry. Overall it is usually a great experience and part of what makes Washington great. However I found myself wanting to be vocal about my experience this time. The ferry service isnt cheap. You pay for the service. It cost over $18.00 both ways for 2 people and a small car. We were coming home from a wedding on the service and the ferries had been delayed. We waited in line for awhile, so we had to use the restroom. The building restrooms were closed and all they had was two porta potties for all those people. I went in and it was absolutely filthy. No toilet paper. There was stains on the toilet paper holder. I didnt know if it was urine or what. There was no sanitizer in the mens urinal. As I lifted the seat up the potty was very full with a big pile of .......... on top. No place to hold onto in order to hover. The whole time gagging. No place to wash your hands. Totally disgusting. They also should supply ass gaskets in the bathrooms. And for a public service in Washington State especially since COVID you would think they could do better. I was so disgusted on the way home and couldnt wait to get home in order to wash my hands. We can do better Washington State! read more

Over the weekend, I took a road trip to Vancouver. Rather than take the usual I-5 route up, I decided to mix it up and take the ferry in Mukilteo to Whidbey Island. From there, I drove up the island, across Deception Pass and back onto I-5. This does add some travel time, but I am glad that I did it. Pretty easy trip getting to the Mukilteo Ferry. I took 405 and then got onto 525 and followed it to Mukilteo. There is good signage along the way, so there was no confusion about where it was. They have a few toll booths where you can buy tickets, but you also buy them online. Car and driver fare is $9 one way. You pay the same fare on the way back from Whidbey. However, passengers from Whidbey to Mukilteo do not have to pay the return fare. Also, there is a senior passenger discount fare that is half off the regular fare that I thought was cool. The ride to Mukilteo is extremely brief. It is a 20 minute crossing. Just enough time to use the bathroom, freshen up and take a few pictures from the boat. A pretty easy ride over the water. Albeit a little bumpier than expected. If you are looking to get to Whidbey Island as fast as possible or would like to take a more leisurely drive up north to BC, the Mukilteo Ferry would be a good starting point. read more

Smooth sailing! We were off to Whidbey Island, so had planned to drive on to the ferry over from Mukilteo WSF Ferry Terminal. First off, I was surprised by how much FASTER it is than catching a ferry from downtown Seattle. Although we missed the ferry when we arrived, we only waited 20 minutes, as the ferry from Mukilteo to Clinton takes less than half an hour. It's also cheaper fare than the downtown Seattle terminals. Payment kiosks direct you to which numbered lane to get into, as they're visible and not too crowded. Nearby, there is a small shopping center where you can get Ivar's and other bites. The terminal is also walking distance to public restrooms at a nearby park. Compared to taking the ferry from downtown Seattle, the Mukilteo WSF Ferry Terminal just seemed to be a much more convenient, quick and breezy experience. It's easy to get to, accessible to eats and services and you don't wait long for the ferry! read more

After finishing my daylong journey exploring Whidbey Island, I took the ferry from Clinton to Mukilteo. I went in April in early spring, but as I bought my ferry ticket and waited a short 10 minutes to board, I did notice lots of signs on the way saying how long the wait times were from different points from the ferry. It made me think that during peak summer times, most vacationers take this ferry back to the mainland and it can get extremely crowded. So it was good to see warning signs as a heads up. But for me there was no problem getting a ticket and boarding. The trip is about a half hour. Once you get onboard the ferry, you can take great photos of the water and mainland in the distance. Being outside on the ferry, the air is refreshing and pleasant. There's enough room onboard inside to sit down and relax also. Once I departed from the ferry, I did stop at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park to walk around and explore and take pictures. My whole journey of Whidbey Island starting at Deception Pass and finally ending at Mukilteo was a wonderful way to explore the coast of Washington. This was just a portion of my entire 5 day North Cascades Loop journey of great little towns, parks and scenic countryside! I'm appreciative to have been able to do this. read more

The Muk-Clinton ferry is one of the better-ran terminals in Washington. They don't take reservations, but they have two vessels operating on 30-minute intervals. First thing you should "know before you go" is to check the ferry schedule at the Washington State Ferries site: www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/ *They also have an app which is super helpful!* Be aware of peak times in the summer and weekends--if you're walking on or a biker, you'll have no problem getting on the next ferry, but if you're taking a car, prepare to wait. The pedestrian waiting space is cramped at times, but the new terminal coming in 20' should have more space and be better/safer for being ADA-friendly. I am excited, but like some locals, also share some concerns about the new terminal coming in 2020. "They say" traveling to and from will be easier, more convenient, and faster. Let's hope! But the area traffic/congestion is insane at times. I'm honestly surprised how someone has not been hit/injured or worse. On a clear and sunny day, riding the ferry is an awe-inspiring experience. With the sun on your face, and the wind at your back, you'll have some amazing views of white-capped mountains in the distance. Hit up Ivars seafood bar for a quick bite or ice cream cone to make the wait more bearable! You can always drink while you wait at Diamond Knot or hang out on the fishing pier behind Ivar's. I'm a sucker for ferries and ferry rides. I just love them! And Seattle has some of the best! (This, coming from an east-coaster who's been on lots of ferries in upper state New York and NYC area). Mukilteo is no exception. Today's experience on the ferry to and from Whidbey Island was terrific. My family and I walked on, thereby not having to deal with any long waits in the car. (The line-ups to and from didn't appear too lengthy, though - although we visited the island on an off-day, at an off-time. Not sure what the wait time would be if it were rush hour. I shudder to think!). Anyhow, for walk-on adults, it cost under $5 for a round-trip. Can't beat that! The ferries to and from were on time to the minute. Both ferries were amazingly clean. The ferry dock guy who sold us our tickets in Mukilteo was great (even directing us to some good, local coffee spots!). The ferry rides themselves were so pretty and smooth. Hubby and kid had some tater tots on board from the little "café" on the ferry and they said that the café staff were incredibly nice, and they devoured the tater tots, saying they were "really good". (Go figure!). The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars to this terminal is due to the lack of long-term or day parking here. We really wanted to visit with our friends on Whidbey for the day, or at least for 5-6 hours without rushing back. We hadn't seen our friends in over 15 years, after all! But the ONLY options were to park in the neighboring lots for up to 4 hours, or take your car on the ferry. There's no street parking, no day parking, and no other option for parking on the Mukilteo side, if you want to walk on the ferry. That just bites. read more

The staff is very rude. We are not from the area and merged into the line in the white dotted line, less than 400 meters after the ferry line began. Two cars up, a rude white man came to our car smoking a cigarette telling us to turn around. We got to the ticket booth, explained our situation and even showed the staff a picture of the ferry begin line sign which we did not pass before merging and the racist white man attending the booth made us go to lane 17 when lanes 1-10 were not full. We are all federal workers and law enforcement officers in our car and we felt the treatment was rude, inconsiderate and racist because there was no other basis to single out our car.
