His departure flight was delayed multiple times (not his fault) and his arrival at SeaTac was past (less than) 1 hour of the last Shuttle departure. I could NOT let him sleep at the airport for several hours and wait for the next Shuttle in the morning so I had to pick him up. It's very convenient when your schedule falls under theirs but be prepared to be screwed when its not.

We were on a…read moreroad trip in a Class B RV (which is van-sized), and needed to travel from Port Townsend, WA to Coupeville, WA. In investigating our options on a mapping app, we found that we had two options -- to drive about 215 miles (4 hours, 45 minutes, plus toll) OR take a ferry (about 8 miles, 45 minutes plus wait time). With some apprehension about how it would work with our oversized and tall vehicle, we decided to take the ferry. We made a reservation online about two weeks before our planned trip, and many of the time slots for our preferred travel date were already taken but we were still able to get a slot at 9:30 am. The reservation "no show" fee was $10, charged only if the reservation is not used. We were pleased to find that there was a category to identify our vehicle as being "under 22' in length, and 7'6" to 13' tall." (There are also options to ride standby when vessel space is available). Washington State Ferries has loading down to a science. On our travel day, we were warmly greeted by the attendant at the entrance tollbooth. One senior (my husband) with vehicle under 22' was $15.30, while I was counted as an adult passenger for $4.10, for a total of $19.40 for two people and the RV. After paying, we were directed by staff to park in a specific lane (with other RVs) and allowed to disembark from our vehicle to grab a coffee or use the restrooms. The process of loading the ferry was highly organized. Every inch of space seemed to be used -- without unused space but also without there being vehicles that didn't fit. We were most impressed in seeing how easily an 18-wheeler semi also fit! After all of the vehicles were parked, the ferry left the dock and many passengers left their vehicles to move upstairs for the water views or to grab a snack. Disembarking in Coupeville was equally efficient. Overall, we had a great experience -- smooth sailing, efficient operations -- but also recognize that service disruptions may occur due to adverse weather conditions or emergency repairs. On this particular day, we were fortunate to have saved hundreds of miles and hours of driving, and nice smooth sailing. One small quibble. We found the WSF's website to be confusing for newcomers to ferry operations. .

Also, the guy standing on the curb near the entrance, who informed us of the cancellations, told us that there were no reservations available for any other crossings, even later in the evening. This proved to be completely false, as we booked a reservation five minutes afterward, and by mid afternoon, the winds had subsided enough that we were able to board and cross without any issue. Government incompetence at its finest!

We took one of the first ferry's in the am, not as busy, but gets more busy as the day goes on. They have restrooms available pre-boarding, but also on the ferry too. Very pretty view; a little windy. Highly recommend reservations, but always an adventure to get on standby. You can walk-on, bike, motorcycles and campers/ RVs-semis too! About $23 for a standard car and 2 passengers. There is a galley with food for purchase, waiting area for a nice view, and just a relaxing trip that beats a 4-hour drive. Very smooth sailing. You can see lots of mountains.

If you arrive late, you can park and check in in the morning (now that we've been doing this for a while, that seems to be the norm). Friendly staff, gorgeous views, beach access, base police make regular rounds, and the bathroom facilities are clean and warm. It's nice to take a shower in an area big enough that if you drop something, you don't have to get out of the shower to pick it up. ;-) The dogs loved the path and the nearness of the beach for potty potty breaks. Man, this place is so windy. If I might make a recommendation...keep your awning in. Only put it out when you plan to sit under it...otherwise, keep it in. Prices are competitive. There is a playground and giant chess set. BBQ's provided at each site. Back in, pull through, 50 amp, 30 amp, tent camping, yurts, oh...and fun "art" installations along the path. If you're into tetanus PT, there's a pull-up area covered in rust!

The Whidbey Scenic Isle Way is a nice stop to take pictures of the shoreline just past Fort Casey State Park. People were fishing and even scuba diving while I was walking around. Lots of wildlife and even 2 friendly goats Hot tub, wood stove, king size bed, pull out spare bed, cooler size fridge, pool table, close to town and ferry The cons: jets don't really work on hot tub. He was planning to have someone out to repair the temp dial- not sure if this will affect the jets. It's an older tub. Still gets hot though! Pull out bed was unusable. He made it up nicely, even with a chocolate on the pillow. The frame is just too worn. I paid for the pullout but ended up sharing the other bed for the sake of my back Conflict- the room is non smoking but when I asked he clarified that my mom could smoke outside if she didn't leave her butts around. She threw them away inside as there was no outside trash and after leaving I received an email mentioning the smell from the trash. Not sure what else she should have done here? Also keep in mind his punctuality. We agreed to breakfast at 9:30 and mom went up at 9:33. She tells me he seemed agitated that she was late. We would have skipped the continental breakfast entirely except there is no in room coffee maker. He did lay out a nice variety for us for breakfast foods. In the email about the smoke smell he also implied that I underpaid. This was frustrating since he seemed fine when we were there. I checked my receipt and had paid what he asked (125/night+$10/night for pullout). I paid $276 to include tax as he asked. From his email I now gather that the tax was $26. He said he hadn't counted my cash but my receipt reflects the total amount so that isn't the issue. I'm disapointed to end the trip on this note after enjoying ourselves so much over the weekend. Renting here is like paying to rent a friend's room. Lots of rustic charm and great view, just seems to struggle with straddling the professional/friendly line. I appreciate him opening his home. I don't expect to return after the conflicts.

Highly recommend reservation, and if it's standby, keep checking cause someone may cancel theirs. They only allow a certain amount of standby vehicles. You can walk on, bike and even motorcycle on. I even saw a semi coming off of it! We took the 1:15 ferry and wow so busy! About a 30 minute ride and so smooth we took a nap in our car. You are allowed to leave your car and head up to the top deck for a nice view. They also have a galley for snacks too. And restrooms available.

I gotta admit, the Keystone ferry terminal isn't exactly the gem of the WSF system. It appears to…read morehave been built in simpler times, decades ago when things like ticket vending machines and social distancing weren't a thing. As a result, it's not the most efficient place to hang out - especially in times of covid (though the employees have done their best to map out effective social distancing protocols). The best thing about the Keystone terminal is the lovely beach adjacent to it. It's a great place to sit and wait for the ferry, which is often late due to the frequent fog, winds and/or low tides in this area. The ferry is also smaller here, so the wait times for driving aboard are often long - it's best to make a reservation online to cut down on wait times. If you're walking on, allow time to find parking, which is not abundant (especially on sunny, warm weekend days). There are few services here, except for a couple of vending machines, but (praise be!) there's a real restroom just inside the terminal doors.

Got in the waiting-to-board area around 10:45 am and boarded the 11 am ferry. The decision to skip Langley is right since many shops weren't open at this time and the ferry wait will only get worse when time progresses. It costs $13.30 for our car with two passengers, but I'm not sure if the number of passengers matter here or not for the price. My guess is that they charge per car. The ferry ride from Clinton to Mukilteo only takes about 20 min, and there was a broadcast to make everyone return to their car at 11:14 am. There is a cafeteria on board but it's tiny. They do have warm options like pretzels with cheese dip or clam chowder. The bathrooms on board have like 15 toilets. Pro tip: the ferry on the hour (or 5 min after) fits 144 cars whereas the other one fits 90 cars. It might help with estimating whether you can make a certain ferry or not lol.
